Ordered rice balls and a veal parm sub. Rice balls were the smaller than a golf ball size and very tasty with cheese and peas inside. Not sure if they're homemade but okay. The veal parm sub was meh. It was a veal patty cut into strips for some reason. Good amount of "meat" on the sandwich though. read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for some time now and finally got the chance to do so last month in July. Family came into town, and we wanted to meet at a good place for lunch. I did my homework and checked the Yelp reviews, which were a 3.9, so I thought ok can't be bad. Well, BOY WAS I WRONG! The place looks nice on the outside but not so good on the inside. The inside reminds me of an old but brightly lighted Blimpies, which we all know is long gone out of business. You have to order your food and wait for it before sitting at one of the scarce available tables. Will the service is very good and the staff are nice and polite, yhe food is absolutely nothing to write home about. The pizza is anything but pizza. My husband, who is Italian by the way, ordered a slice and regretted it the minute he saw it. The look of the slice was horrible! The crust was so white. thin and flimsy looking, and the cheese and sauce looked barely baked. In factt the pizza slice itself looked barely baked. My husband said it tasted horrible as expected. I ordered a shrimp parmesan hero sandwich, which seemed to take forever to make as I had to wait a good 10-15mins before it was ready and the place wasn't even busy! I anticipated the sandwich would at least be good since it was taking so long to make. To my disappointment, it was not. Sadly, what I received was shrimp on bread with a little bit of sauce and cheese on a barely roasted regular hero bread roll. The only good thing about the sandwich was that it was definitely made with fresh shrimp, which I greatly appreciate, but I would have appreciated it even more if it had been a REAL parmesan sandwich. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. While the food at Giovanni's is boring and not to be desired, the staff are very nice and polite. Unfortunately, that's not enough to make me want to give it another try. In my opinion, Giovann's is a one and done. IBe warned, If you're looking for good Italian food, even if it's just pizza skip Giovanni's, you'll be happy you did. read more

After trying to reach them by phone for at least a half hour, I gave up and ordered from someone else who actually answered their phone. This is not the first time this has happened. Food is good, staff is rude and condescending. I asked for a godfather slice. The guy at the counter just said, "no." Instead of giving me alternatives. He just sat there waiting for me to figure out what I can get by the slice, which isn't really noted on the menu. I asked for a fountain cup. I expected him to hand me a cup. When he didn't, I asked him for the cup and he said "right there..." in a condescending manner and pointed over to a spot further down the counter where cups are stacked. Giovanni's has been in business for about 45 years and under the current owner for about 35 years. The cold sub sandwich recipe has not changed in all that time - because it works. The secret, beyond fresh veggies, olive oil and wine vinegar, is that the meats and cheese are freshly cut for each sandwich - not pre sliced which allows the surface area to dry out and get nasty. Fresh is best. They've been my (and lots of others) go-to when passing through Monticello for decades. The only similar sandwich I've come across is Jersey Mike's - also fresh sliced provisions. read more

Figured I'd give this place an honest review since there aren't any yet. I think competitors often intentionally trash others and I hate seeing that. I highly doubt anyone intentionally served anyone a roach. They flick the pizza in the box and close it. It's not like anything is going to crawl in there. But I'm here to talk about the Godfather, the meatiest, tastiest Italian Combo-esque sub you'll find in the area and for an awesome price. It's better for takeout than dining in, and a nice selection of beers and beverages to boot. My one complaint is that the parking and entry/exit are messed up. read more

I've been emailed your Bonnie's for close to 35 years and despite my proximally 10 year sabbatical from Monticello I tell you these boys have not missed a beat it's probably one of the best sandwiches I've got to eat all over the world I grew up on the Godfather the roast beef which thank God is a rare which I prefer was just the so good , and the tacos which are really not my thing was yummy , this is a sure fire phenomenal fresh lunch. The best sub shop in town!! Been going there for over 30yrs. They are generous with their meats and cheeses on their sandwiches and they offer daily specials. Clean and quiet, a good place to take the family. Also offer pizza, hot subs and tacos. Good variety of beverage to select from as well as the ability to get fountain drinks. Prices are quite reasonable, they haven't jacked them up unreasonably over the years. Pick up or eat in. Never have to wait very long for your food. read more
