I was seeking and craving Italian food and stopped by Giovanni's Italian restaurant. I walked in and was greeted by the waitress and was seated on a corner by the door. As soon as I sat down I had Mimosas which was not listed as a menu item. So they said it can be made for me. Plus one, excellant! They're very attentive here I was very surprised since I've seen some of the reviews that were average. But not the case here I was treated very well and the mimosa came out fantastic which is the way I like it I ordered the mushroom Were absolutely delicious and it had the sauce red sauce Italian style with bread. Fantastic I also ordered the medium size meat lovers pizza New York style. Okay so it features as NY style but in reality more like New York version style. Came out hot and delicious, honestly it was very large for a medium. If you have eaten at I recommend highly you have to try it it's really good food and you can't miss it it's usually busy on the weekends but if you go for lunch time it's a little bit mellow down and sometimes not you have to do a hit or miss to find where it's not too crowded. They do have an outdoor seating if you like but because of the heat in August I don't think a lot of people want to sit outside. Park in very easy here handicap the works so come out and see what I'm talking about the food is really good including the pizza. Happy yelping!! read more

Small family run business. Garlic knots are delicious. We had a table of five people who ordered a pizza, chicken Florentine, pasta trio, mushrooms in vodka sauce, and two other dishes I can't remember. Some of us were more impressed with our dishes than others, so I'll speak to what I tasted. The mushrooms were a nice size but they were swimming in vodka sauce so you couldn't even taste the mushroom. And my chicken Florentine had plenty of spinach but would definitely have benefited from more garlic. We ordered desserts: a couple of cheesecakes (one choc and one amaretto) and two lemoncelli. The lemoncelli was delicious even if it was so cold it seemed frozen. The chocolate cheesecake was good. Not sure about the amaretto cheesecake because I was served a plain cheesecake instead. So, not really worth a special trip, but not bad either. read more

Went last Sunday with family and was a great experience. Extensive menu of authentic Italian dishes and hard to choose!! Just have to go back again and start checking them off. As other reviews indicate, great service and the owners are there and making sure all is well! We wanted to find a cute Italian place to eat before we saw the sunset. This place was decent. We sat next to the doors so every time the door opened there was a risk of flies. The breadsticks tasted good. I could tell they were homemade but it would have been nice if they were crispier. We ordered the margherita pizza and chicken Arrabbiata pasta. The pizza was alright. It wasn't terrible but it was missing that flavor I look for in a margherita pizza. I can't realize describe it. The chicken arrabbiata was okay as well. I like my noodles more adente and the chicken tasted a little overcooked. The staff were super friendly, but definitely not a place to hang out after you finish eating. When we told them that the calamari was very "fishy" smelling and the chicken Parmesan was very hard to cut , it was not handled as it should have been . Very defensive .... Authentic North Jersey pizza, hot subs, pasta, and meat meals. Since moving to Austin area 2.5 years ago, have lamented lack of authentic Italian restaurants because so many seem to feel Italian means heavy garlic and oil. My mother never cooked like that - if you could taste the garlic.. it means too much was added.. she used so little oil in her sauce - but difficult to find such a place in Austin. Followed by the Pasta Trio (small portion of ricotta lasagna, chicken parmesan, and a small scoop of pasta alfredo). The food here was delicious. I got some fresh baked bread with a side of Alfredo and a serving of baked tortellini in pink sauce. I thought all of it was excellent and it came out smoking hot. I would say the price is a little higher than I would like, but overall I'd eat here again. A great down home Italian feel, not pretentious at all. And yes, Giovanni and his family are actually there at the restaurant. The service was fast and super friendly. Our server even offered to put some bolognese on the side of the chicken parm so we could try it. I had the rib-eye Marsala. The sauce was delicious and the pasta was cooked perfectly Al Dente. The steak itself was just okay, a bit over cooked. Desserts we're 10/10 - cannoli, Italian cream cake, and tiramisu. Is it the best Italian that I've ever had, no. This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the Austin surrounding area. The prices are perfect. The servings are plentiful. And the food is authentic and delicious. We have never been disappointed. They have various lunch specials that are reasonably priced. They have pizza and calzones, too. The entrees come with a salad or soup. The salad is quite fresh and complimented with deliciously made dressings. If you want to go the extra, ask for a caprice salad, their mozzarella is fresh and perfectly seasoned. Desserts vary, as very dependent on what was made or brought in for the day. My recommendation is the limoncello slice of cake. The family that runs the place is originally from Italy. Having lived in Italy during my service years, I love coming in and speaking Italian with Lina. There is beer and wine available along with cappuccino and expresso. Prices are very reasonable. Parking - plenty, part of a larger lot Food - omg it's flavorful, fresh, and delicious. We got the: - Fettuccini Alfredo with prosciutto (definitely get this if you don't know what to order; highly recommend). Perfect texture not too hard or soft since some restaurants overcook their pasta. The flavor here is a surprise. I honestly did not think Alfredo could make me so happy with the layers of flavor (onion, cream, savory). - gnocchi alle vodka; this has to be homemade it tastes so fresh - spaghetti bolognese; sauce and meat were really seasoned perfectly and abundant - dessert; tiramisu- also a wow here. Giovanni's is an average, not great, Italian restaurant. It's a step above Olive Garden and three steps below New York's little Italy and Boston's North End. The atmosphere is very casual and not particularly attractive; definitely not romantic. They served garlic knots that were too salty with dinner and the veal marsala was cut into strips, probably to try and compensate for the veal that was too tough. The spaghetti that came with the veal was overcooked and flavorless, not al dente. Service was excellent, portion sizes okay and prices competitive except for the fact that the food isn't great. read more

Had dinner at Giovannis Table this past weekend and it was delightful. There were three of us, we ordered Calamari, stuffed mushrooms, and salad capreses for appetizers; our entrees were chicken Marsala, veal piccata and chicken francaise. All is well, then there was dessert, OMG, cannolis, tiramisu and this limoncello cake that I have never tasted anything like it before, it really took the meal to a different level...it was the absolute best part of the meal. First time trying this place and we were excited as there aren't many mom and pop Italian places left. Sat down, were greeted kindly and given a menu. My initial take was there were way too many dishes for a small restaurant like this. The small mom and pops that I'm use to and succeed typically have maybe 8-10 things that they do well. This menu had at least 40 items. The food overall was mediocre. Not lacking flavor per se but the wrong flavors and too much of them. For example, I ordered the chicken scallopine. The pasta was drowning in liquid and it was overly tart. There was no balance in flavor. The chicken instead of a cutlet as it is usually served was grilled and cut into rubbery strips. Overall dish failed. We also got the gnocchi Ala vodka. It was supposedly one of their best. Way too much sauce again. Gnocchis were chewy and sauce passable but again way too much of it. Italian food if nothing else is suppose to be simple and well balanced, using fresh ingredients and letting the ingredients speak for themselves. This was neither. read more

We experience the world with our senses. Here's what we sensed when we dined at Giovanni's table Sights: The dining room is on the small side with 11 tables for 4-6 people and 4 seats at the bar. We were there around 6:30 on Sunday and only one table was left. Since this was our first time here, it's popularity was reassuring. Around the restaurant there were 2 TVs playing sports, and Italian artwork on the walls. Sounds: There wasn't any music playing, the TVs were on mute, and as I mentioned above, it was a full house, so the restaurant was filled with the sweet sounds of chatter. Feel: The temperature inside was comfortable on a hot day. Food temp was spot on. All the staff were really nice even when it was really busy Taste: Stuffed Mushrooms in vodka sauce- Great flavor. Not too salty. My wife feels most restaurants use too much salt on everything. Her candid comment at dinner, "This is the restaurant with the best saltiness level in the whole town" Caesar Salad - Excellent. Crunchy, creamy, and fresh. Gnocchi Bolognese - The gnocchi struck the perfect balance between chewy and soft, and the Bolognese was really flavorful, but not overwhelming. Pasta Trio - Lasagne, Chicken Parm, and Fettuccini Alfredo. All were excellent. Especially the Chicken Parm. It was Crispy, delicious, and the tomato wasn't a sauce. Was looking forward to having a great Italian meal since the reviews were pretty great. Not what we expected! Waited and waited for someone to wait on us and finally the owner came to ask us about drinks, pushing the bottles of wine. We did get a bottle...waiting longer for someone to take our food order. Flagged him down to order. The meals come with spaghetti pasta, is that all this "Italian" restaurant has to offer? Chicken Picata was way to lemony. I think I make it better and I'm Polish. The other two meals weren't great either. Very disappointing! I told my son we went here and he said the same. Not good Italian food. Sorry "cocky" owner...I have many Italian friends that are the friendliest, hospitable people I know. You should be thankful you are still open for business.
