From the speakeasy vibe of the restaurant to its South Philly culinary inspiration, it was an amazing meal that we'll always remember. We ordered a number of things to share family style - - The Artichoke Francaise appetizer was something we'd never seen before on a menu, so we wanted to try. It was so good and I'm still trying to dupe it at home for my vegetarian hubs. - My husband is a eggplant parm connoisseur, so we also ordered their Eggplant 'Parmigiana' appetizer. He said it was good. - Ricotta Tortelloni was delicious and our favorite savory dish. The aged balsamic cuts through all the richness of the cheeses perfectly. It was so good! - To round off the meal, we ordered dessert and ordered the tiramisu. Glad we did because Giuseppe's & Son's has the BEST tiramisu that either of us has ever tasted. Ava was our waiter that evening. She was the best! When I mentioned my husband was vegetarian, she made sure to clear with him if certain ingredients in the dishes were ok with him. It's a big relief whenever that happens when we dine out. Plus, she was friendly and convivial. The tables at either side of us liked her too. That quality is important and adds to the overall experience for diners. Just had to shout out. Giuseppe's is hands-down a wonderful place and a gem. This spot is unexpected. Went back to this spot last evening for dinner . The dining room is downstairs and much larger space than anticipated. Decorated vintage chic Italian restaurant with booth and table seating. We started off with three cocktails that were seasonal options all were good and boozy as expected. The waiter was great at recommending top picks and favorites. We started dinner with the 8oz mozzarella and meatball appetizer. The meatballs were served 4 in sauce small to average size meatballs were good, soft and flavorful. The mozzarella was a show pulling it tableside from curds to a full 8oz ball finished with salt , pepper, and flavored olive oil. Dinner we ordered three Italian specialties. Chicken Milanese that was served with shaved Italian cheese and arugula. One vela parm which had the perfect ratio of sauce to cheese. The third meal was a basic bolognese that was served with mafaldine pasta. Entrees were all good. We also added the truffle pasta option for the table which was also prepared tableside with the cheese wheel and shavings of fresh black truffles was a perfect finish. We also had a sharing side of gnocchi with sauce. All in all we had a solid meal. It wasn't the best Italian I even had but it's good. The total was 336 for three with 2 rounds of drinks . Me and my wife are from out of town. We found this restaurant online and decided to try it out. We arrived around 8:30 PM. We were told by the hostess the wait would be around 15 minutes. 40 minutes later, still nothing. Never mind there were empty tables all around. The female bartender, to her credit, checked with the hostess to let her know we were still waiting. Nothing. We finally gave up. We asked the bartender to please let the hostess know we left. Genuinely impressed with Giuseppe and Sons. Other Italian restaurants in Philly can be overhyped we went in here for dinner for 4 - food was great. We got the calamari, shrimp scampi to share. We also got the Branzino, Bolognese and found it to be throughly enjoyable. The service was quick, efficient - without being hasty. The star of the show was the carrot cake though - so good! Found this spot on Yelp. Dined in with friends. The restaurant is downstairs from street level where you are greeted by an oversized bar and a dining room of sophisticated ambience. Servers were professional and helpful and honest in their opinions on the entrees. Bar drinks were a good pour. My Caesar salad was just ok, even with the added dark anchovies on top. The antipasti salad was ample enough to share. My Sunday gravy was a classic spaghetti, meatballs, sausage and Italian gravy & it did not disappoint. The highlight was the homemade pasta. Delicious. Came here to celebrate my brother's graduation and we were seated very quickly since we had made a reservation. We ordered the small hand pulled mozzarella and it was really delicious especially with the flakey salt sprinkled on top. It was a great presentation watching them create the mozzarella ball! I also got the spicy rigatoni alla vodka which was creamy and spicy! They made my brother's special day an occasion by giving him a cannoli with a candle! The restaurant has low lighting and there is minimal cell service there which is good for some intimate dinner conversation. Ordered the fried calamari, meatball & gravy, broccoli rabe, truffle tagliatelle and tiramisu. The appetizer were ok. The calamari and broccoli rabe could've been more crispy. It was a great experience to watch the truffle tagliatelle being cooked in front of us in the cheese wheel. Good portion size but the pasta was cold with minimal flavor to it. I had a long west coast to east coast flight to Philly and spent a good amount of the time finding a dinner venue for myself - something close to my hotel and still open after 9pm. I decided on Giuseppe & Sons and it was hands down the best meal during my weeklong trip. This is a basement level restaurant, so you have to take a flight of stairs down. The hostess initially seemed a little hesitant to seat me solo at 9:30pm and initially said I could sit at the bar since I'm alone. Upon asking again, I was seated at a table, and I noticed folks being seated even after me. After this initial hiccup, the rest of the evening was perfect. The waitress who served my table was very friendly, kind, and extremely mindful of customer needs. The complimentary bread to start the evening was delightful - warm rosemary foccacia. For my main course, I ordered the linguine fra diavolo and asked to make it extra spicy. It was such a comforting and hearty meal after a long flight with a generous amount of succulent shrimp , and I wish I had more appetite to try out additional dishes here. Giuseppe & Sons is the perfect restaurant. The service was wonderful. The tortelloni is ones of the best pastas I have ever had, recommended by the server. The burrata that comes as a globe in the middle of the panzanella is unctuous. The table side service for the truffle tagliatelle is well worth the $26 dollar prize, it's fun and delicious. Went here with my boyfriend for dinner and it always hits the spot. Shared the cheesesteak stromboli and it was perfect. The cheesesteak melted in your mouth and the breading was fresh and homemade. The aesthetic here is absolutely beautiful , definitely one of the highlights of the experience. The bread was also amazing and a great start to the meal. I got the gluten-free spicy vodka rigatoni while everyone else at the table had the regular version. The flavor was really good overall, and I appreciated that they had a gluten-free option. That said, the portion was pretty moderate. For the price, I was honestly expecting more. Someone in our party got the tortellini and it only came with about 8 pieces which for the price was not worth it. One thing I really appreciated was how accommodating they were with allergies, which made the experience feel much more comfortable. I'm calling this a hidden gem because it's so unassuming from the outside and would never expect such an elegant restaurant tucked away in the basement. The decor is beautiful but the lighting was a little too dark. It's a large restaurant but a small bar area. Service was outstanding. We shared the truffle tagliatelle in the pecorino cheese wheel as an appetizer. I think it was perfect since entrees/sides are Al a carte and we ordered meat dishes. Watching them prepare the dish table side was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised by how light it tasted. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was not heavy. The truffle was just enough without being overpowering. A well balanced dish. I had the veal parm. That was a heavy dish. The veal was thin and cooked perfectly. The sauce was flavorful. A lot of cheese melted on top though. Probably could do with less. I don't think I was able to get through 1/2 of it so looking forward to leftovers. I was told the pork parm was really good. Of course I found out about this place because it's going viral on TikTok so I put it on my list. I happen to be right down the street from it that day so me and a friend stopped by during happy hour. The parking is crazy so I suggest you do not even try to come down and drive I would suggest if you come down on the train and walk to the restaurant. The atmosphere is very low lighting and very romantic. I love the set up in the seating. The pictures on the wall were great. We sat at the bar and we had the happy hour menu which was very nice for the both of us and I love the prices. It gave us the opportunity to try several different things. We chose the following: Meatballs: good Rocotta toast: not bad Calamari: good Pizza: not bad Caesar salad: not bad Bread: good The Lemonata cocktail: good I even ordered the famous pasta where they stir pasta on a big cheese wheel. It's been a minute since I've gone here, but one of my favorite happy hour jawns in the city. We showed up a few minutes before it started and secured a seat, and quickly dived into the menu. Ordered a bunch of apps and thoroughly enjoyed ourself. The Hotel National cocktail is very tasty, and pairs well with the calamari in my opinion. It's dimly lit here, and perfect for a date night or even just to catch up with some close friends or coworkers. Highly suggest everything, but if I had to pick one... I'd say the mussels! I absolutely love and adore this restaurant. Although I've only been twice, it's definitely on my list of places I know I can always come back to. My first visit was for happy hour with a party of two, and the second time I went with a group of about eight & both experiences were great. One small downside is the table size. On both visits, it felt like there wasn't enough room to fit all the food comfortably or move around without feeling cramped. The food also comes out really quickly and usually all at once, which, while convenient, adds to the crowded table situation. That said, the food is always delicious and fresh, the drinks are amazing, the service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. During my first visit, I had the chicken parm sandwich, calamari, and Caesar salad, all of which were great. The second time, I tried the meatballs and ricotta toast and absolutely loved both. I love the dark, moody, but lively ambiance this restaurant offers. Our waitress was also incredibly kind and made us feel so welcomed and not rushed. I didn't have a drink, but they looked amazing and I absolutely want to try one next time. I rate this spot a 4/5 instead of 5/5 because I wish the truffle pasta had more of a sauce to it, not just cheese with slight grated truffle. It was definitely good and great quality, and was also made right in front of me at my table! But I couldn't eat a lot of it due to how cheesy it was. The quality is authentic Italian cuisine that hits above the mark. Yet another gorgeous and elevated dining experience by the Schulson Collective. We were immediately blown away by the lovely interior, filled with soft warm lighting. Our server was extremely kind and took a couple items off our bill after a mistake with our order. Each item we ordered was delicious! Giuseppe & Sons has now become my favorite upscale Italian place in Philadelphia. The lighting is on the darker end making it a great place for a date night or a birthday. Our food came out rather quickly, however I am a much bigger fan of their chicken than their pasta. I often find their pasta portions to be on the smaller end where I don't feel full after, but their Chicken Milanese is top notch. Each table additionally receives focaccia and I love the one coated in a tomato paste of sorts. My one complaint is that some of the tables are rather close together which can sometimes be disruptive. read more

I remember our server being super friendly and accommodating, especially it being our first dining experience. I don't know remember if it's because we went at night time but it was dark and very dim inside. I will say I do like those kind of vibes sometimes but I thought it was just a little too dark where faces were sort of blending in the background (still romantic vibes). I came here on New Year's Eve for dinner with my husband. I made an early reservation to beat the crowd. I have to say that the main reason we were having dinner here was because my husband wanted to experience the pasta in a cheese wheel experience. Our table was ready at the time of our reservation, the restaurant is big to be underground. Quite unexpected. It is extremely dark and the restaurant. Oddly dark if you ask me. It felt weird to be put in the position where we had to use cell phone lights to read the menu. We ordered appetizers entrées and a dessert. The Caesar salad and calamari were really good. The fried mozzarella was also good, but as you can imagine as it cooled it was really just fried stiff cheese. My husband ordered salmon and I ordered a breaded chicken dish. We also both got the pasta and the cheese wheel dish. To be honest, the food was good. It was not great. It did not overly impressed me but it was good. I had no complaints except for the pasta. The pasta was done perfectly fine, but the sauce had no flavor at all. Almost as if the cheese flavor was watered down. We both left feeling like the meal was mediocre at best. I'm not sure that I would return for the price tag. The meat portions were very small. My husband's piece of salmon was extremely small. I'm not sure if the food really was worth $270. As a treat to him for Father's Day, I took my boyfriend out and suggested this place which I've been wanting to try. We got there a little after they opened that Sunday (around 4:15/4:20), so we were able to get our pick of bar seating. Since they offer happy hour specials everyday from 4pm-6pm, we decided to get a bunch of options to share from that menu - both food and drinks. Starting with the drinks, we enjoyed all the ones we had and the bartenders really know what they are doing. Drinks were strong but not overpowering with the alcohol making for real balance. I started off with the Hotel Nacional and then switched over to the Lend Lease, while he tried both of those as well along with the Fly Me To The Moon (which I took a sip of ). Like I said, all of the drinks were great! Different tastes, but all well made. For the food, we ordered a bunch of stuff - sometimes two of one dish lol. Fried Calamari, Pizza (pepperoni), Caesar Salad, Meatballs, Parm sandwich, Shrimp Scampi and Mussels Guiseppe. The Caesar Salad was very good! Like, we were shocked at how good we felt that salad tasted lol. Everything else was good - nothing that stood out more than other places where we've had similar dishes, but not bad either. The ambiance is the clear highlight here the sunken, underground space is beautiful and intimate, and the cocktails and presentation are very well done. It feels like a place meant for a relaxed, enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, the service rushed us through our meal. I have been here multiple times and the front of house staff seems to be getting more and more short and less customer friendly. We were a party of two at a small table, and while I understand the limited space, our server repeatedly removed plates before we were finished, including taking our starter when it wasn't even halfway done. We weren't the last seating, so the constant interruptions felt unnecessary. For food, the ricotta starter was the standout and the best part of the meal. The chicken milanese was also great and better than the oxtail pasta, which was just okay. The stuffed long hot peppers were far too spicy to enjoy, and we barely ate them.
