    spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka
    Shannon S.

Came here to celebrate my brother's graduation and we were seated very quickly since we had made a reservation. We ordered the small hand pulled mozzarella and it was really delicious especially with the flakey salt sprinkled on top. It was a great presentation watching them create the mozzarella ball! I also got the spicy rigatoni alla vodka which was creamy and spicy! They made my brother's special day an occasion by giving him a cannoli with a candle! Overall, it was really good food for a celebration!

Had a reservation but got there a little early to have some happy hour deals before our meal. Told the hostess this and she said if we ordered any food at the bar we would not be able to keep our reservation. This felt like a shock and she was fairly rude about it. We ordered a few drinks at the bar where we talked to the bartender and he never heard of that rule. The dinner itself was very tasty with attentive service and the ambiance was also great. It was very unfortunate to have a bad start to this otherwise great meal and thus stain our whole experience

Decided to try Giuseppe & Sons due to their cheese wheel pasta and their tiramisu. The restaurant is downstairs in the basement and vibes are old-school Italian feel. Love how the tables are set up. The restaurant has low lighting and there is minimal cell service there which is good for some intimate dinner conversation. Ordered the fried calamari, meatball & gravy, broccoli rabe, truffle tagliatelle and tiramisu. The appetizer were ok. The calamari and broccoli rabe could've been more crispy. It was a great experience to watch the truffle tagliatelle being cooked in front of us in the cheese wheel. Good portion size but the pasta was cold with minimal flavor to it. Their Tiramisu was light, not too heavy I did hear good reviews about this location from multiple people. This place didn't stand out to me. Not sure if I'd go back.

I had a long west coast to east coast flight to Philly and spent a good amount of the time finding a dinner venue for myself - something close to my hotel and still open after 9pm. I decided on Giuseppe & Sons and it was hands down the best meal during my weeklong trip. This is a basement level restaurant, so you have to take a flight of stairs down. The hostess initially seemed a little hesitant to seat me solo at 9:30pm and initially said I could sit at the bar since I'm alone. Upon asking again, I was seated at a table, and I noticed folks being seated even after me. After this initial hiccup, the rest of the evening was perfect. The waitress who served my table was very friendly, kind, and extremely mindful of customer needs. The complimentary bread to start the evening was delightful - warm rosemary foccacia. For my main course, I ordered the linguine fra diavolo and asked to make it extra spicy. It was such a comforting and hearty meal after a long flight with a generous amount of succulent shrimp , and I wish I had more appetite to try out additional dishes here. I tried more similarly rated Italian places during my Philly trip but none matched the experience at Giuseppe & Sons.

Giuseppe & Sons is the perfect restaurant. The service was wonderful. The tortelloni is ones of the best pastas I have ever had, recommended by the server. The burrata that comes as a globe in the middle of the panzanella is unctuous. The table side service for the truffle tagliatelle is well worth the $26 dollar prize, it's fun and delicious. We sat in a booth as a group of three that was perfect. The lighting is low and my sister was gifted a sparkler canoli for her birthday! Will be back- thank you Giuseppe & Sons.

Great spot for happy hour! The special happy hour menu had a lot of options for food as well as drink specials. The bartenders and staff were very friendly and attentive. The portions for the happy hour food was still very generous, particularly the calamari. The lemon chicken was very refreshing, tasty and came with a good portion of chicken also. The dim cozy bar had a great ambiance as well.

The aesthetic here is absolutely beautiful , definitely one of the highlights of the experience. The bread was also amazing and a great start to the meal. I got the gluten-free spicy vodka rigatoni while everyone else at the table had the regular version. The flavor was really good overall, and I appreciated that they had a gluten-free option. That said, the portion was pretty moderate. For the price, I was honestly expecting more. Someone in our party got the tortellini and it only came with about 8 pieces which for the price was not worth it. One thing I really appreciated was how accommodating they were with allergies, which made the experience feel much more comfortable. Overall, I'd recommend checking this place out, especially during happy hour, it feels much more worth it for the value.

I'm calling this a hidden gem because it's so unassuming from the outside and would never expect such an elegant restaurant tucked away in the basement. The decor is beautiful but the lighting was a little too dark. It's a large restaurant but a small bar area. Service was outstanding. We shared the truffle tagliatelle in the pecorino cheese wheel as an appetizer. I think it was perfect since entrees/sides are Al a carte and we ordered meat dishes. Watching them prepare the dish table side was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised by how light it tasted. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was not heavy. The truffle was just enough without being overpowering. A well balanced dish. I had the veal parm. That was a heavy dish. The veal was thin and cooked perfectly. The sauce was flavorful. A lot of cheese melted on top though. Probably could do with less. I don't think I was able to get through 1/2 of it so looking forward to leftovers. I was told the pork parm was really good. It was a huge portion. I would definitely come back!

Of course I found out about this place because it's going viral on TikTok so I put it on my list. I happen to be right down the street from it that day so me and a friend stopped by during happy hour. The parking is crazy so I suggest you do not even try to come down and drive I would suggest if you come down on the train and walk to the restaurant. The atmosphere is very low lighting and very romantic. I love the set up in the seating. The pictures on the wall were great. We sat at the bar and we had the happy hour menu which was very nice for the both of us and I love the prices. It gave us the opportunity to try several different things. We chose the following: Meatballs: good Rocotta toast: not bad Calamari: good Pizza: not bad Caesar salad: not bad Bread: good The Lemonata cocktail: good I even ordered the famous pasta where they stir pasta on a big cheese wheel. I was very disappointed. On the videos, it looked great but everything glitters is not tasty! because it really lacked flavor. I was so looking forward to it :-(. The portion size and price did not add up. Overall, I enjoyed the ambience and most of the food and the drinks. I definitely will go back to try something else different perhaps something off of the menu.

genuinely really good. i loved the new york prime rib, and the prosciutto board. truffle pasta was ok. service was great, very nice people working there and the ambiance was great. it felt like i was in a speakeasy but restaurant. philly has a lot of good restaurants and this one is one of them.

It's been a minute since I've gone here, but one of my favorite happy hour jawns in the city. We showed up a few minutes before it started and secured a seat, and quickly dived into the menu. Ordered a bunch of apps and thoroughly enjoyed ourself. The Hotel National cocktail is very tasty, and pairs well with the calamari in my opinion. It's dimly lit here, and perfect for a date night or even just to catch up with some close friends or coworkers. Highly suggest everything, but if I had to pick one... I'd say the mussels! They were so delicious.

I absolutely love and adore this restaurant. Although I've only been twice, it's definitely on my list of places I know I can always come back to. My first visit was for happy hour with a party of two, and the second time I went with a group of about eight & both experiences were great. One small downside is the table size. On both visits, it felt like there wasn't enough room to fit all the food comfortably or move around without feeling cramped. The food also comes out really quickly and usually all at once, which, while convenient, adds to the crowded table situation. That said, the food is always delicious and fresh, the drinks are amazing, the service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. During my first visit, I had the chicken parm sandwich, calamari, and Caesar salad, all of which were great. The second time, I tried the meatballs and ricotta toast and absolutely loved both. I'll definitely be back again. Totally worth all the hype!

This is probably the best happy hour in philly. $7 coctails with cheap food and apatizers as well. The drinks were good as well. Each had its own distinct flavors and seemed like they used pretty decent alcohol as well. The atmosphere was great as well. A long hallway opens up into a warm classy bar with various cozy seats around. The staff was super friendly as well and even let us work at the bar. Overall a great spot for happyhour.

Is there a gluten free menu/pasta option?

Yes they do! The kitchen recommended the rock shrimp fra Diablo, which was made with spaghetti and cherry tomatoes and slight kick. Tasty and generous portion, no up charge for GF.

What is the dress code for a Saturday night dinner?

Pretty casual. A couple of people were in shorts, and others were in sport coats. Not sure i'd recommend shorts.

Do they have a cocktail/wine menu? Are bottles of wine reasonably priced?

They have carafes of house wine as well. We got a 1/2 carafe for $18 and it was an excellent red from the Piedmont.

Everything was as perfect as it could be why is that because this restaurants been doing it for over 126 years they know a thing or two their customers and had to prepare plate delicious meals. He was exceptional at his run through the menu, his explanations on preparations handling questions. This was definitely not his first, not his second and not his third rodeo he's definitely a professional at what he does. Upon review of the menu we started off with steamed clams and a spicy marinara and actually asked for fra Diavlo hence they gave it an additional hit of spice. It had a nice kick. It was very tasty. My wife was going back-and-forth between their signature lasagna and a little weak weenie with crab Bianco and in the end she went with the baked lasagna oh my goodness the size of that piece on the plate we took half home. For me, I went with the veal Catherine, the medallions veal with shrimp, lump crab meat, and fresh tomato and a Bianco sauce the plating presentation I can't describe you'll just have to see my photograph. I've never seen it like this before and it was extremely tasty. Very tender I would certainly get that dish again. And since I am not a pasta eater, I ordered a side vegetable of broccoli Rob. And we ordered a bottle of the Italian Montepuliciano wine, what was the perfect compliment to our dinner? And this was my birthday. My wife was surprising me she had already pre-ordered their homemade tiramisu with ladyfingers, which would wind up taking with us cause we were kind of full and had later that night at one of our favorite coffee houses in Philly and boy that dessert was perfect and I'm glad we waited. We have had the great fortune of dining here multiple times. What sets this particular establishment apart from other dining experiences we have had in Philly is their attention to...everything. From the flatware to the glasses to the greeting, service, and knowledge of their food...the dining journey you embark upon is unparalleled. When we arrived, our waiter, Eric, greeted us warmly. We have had the pleasure of meeting Eric on many occasions. Why is Eric so special? He knew our names. Remembered our conversations. Recommended items based on our previous dining habits. He provided interesting details about the products. Explained why and how dishes were created in the manner they chose, and frequently checked back to ensure our meal was as magical as we hoped. Chef Vetri came out to warmly greet us and thank us for returning. Maybe some would see that as a small gesture, but to us...it made us feel important and valued. For such a talented souls to take time to say hello, knowing how much it had meant to us on prior visits, underscores their attention to detail and service. It was appreciated beyond words. One of the hostesses, Diana, also made sure to check up on us. She asked questions based on prior conversations, she laughed and joked with us about life and home ownership. She sought out my wife to say hello when Rachel had stepped away for a moment. The exceptional steps the staff took to ensure our night was a step above others was clearly notable. We couldn't have been more appreciative of all of the efforts of the entire restaurant. We walked away feeling on top of the world...if only for a few short hours.
