I teach yoga. I teach both Ashtanga and Yin yoga. In the latter aka Yin yoga there is a yoga pose called Lounge Lizard. It is a nice posture and always associated it with something out of a Vegas casino until now. Lounge Lizard caught my attention on Yelp as it was listed under thrift store and furniture store. Lounge Lizard does primarily furniture here and list themselves on the door Furniture with a Past. All furniture is refurbished. Some really nice furniture here and a handful of used books yet no clothes here. I used to live in Portland and if still lived here would be sure to head here to pick up some furniture yet live out of state. Homemade furniture, Lamps, and a selection of Refurbished Vintage stuff -this place is unique in terms of what they offer !! We were able to walk & look & sit & "try out" various pieces with no fuss. Since it is a big open stores, plenty of styles & selections from which to choose. What I was not impressed was the prices -it was all over the place and some of the stuff did not justify the costs . I am all for splurging on a piece that you fall in love with but it really has to be splurge worthy . There were quite a few things that I really liked but I want to first take my time seeing if I can get them for a better price . What a cute place! Came here right after we had sushi across the street and we've been looking for an over head light and found so many cute options. Unfortunately because we were out of state they didn't ship to MN and it was just trickier to think of all the logic this with shipping given we were leaving back really soon. If you are a vintage/retro lamp fanatic who loves the mid-century look, Lounge Lizard was made for you. I spotted the two locations by accident, while driving my daughter to other vintage stores up the street. My head whipped around and my eyes bugged out at the sight of so many fiberglass lamp shades. I made a mental note to return ASAP. I was back the following day. I started at the smaller location on the 1300 block. I couldn't believe how many ceramic/fiberglass lamps they had. How could they possibly have so many, in such incredible condition? That's when I learned that they create their own reproductions! How did I not know this was a thing? Yes, they cast the bases and roll and print the shades themselves. By this time I was starting to think that a lamp would be a wonderful Portland souvenir. I headed up to the next location on the 1400 block to be sure I saw everything. Almost immediately I spotted the futuristic ceramic and metal lamp that would become mine. The design on the shade wasn't exactly to my liking but that was not a problem at all...they tested a couple of others that I liked and subbed in my favorite. I got a tall, stunning, unique table lamp for $169, and the employee who created it was the one who sold it to me. Not only is my lamp beautiful, it has a story. Worth every penny! read more

There is something about this area that seem to have the best finds when I am there and I am limited to what I purchase as there involves a trek home limited to space! We decided to replace our kitchen table with something more mid-century modern. It went onto the mental "Lounge Lizard: next visit" list, like so many other items. But the list had grown unmanageable: that meant a visit to Christopher and his wonderfully resourceful team. We walked into the store and saw "our" kitchen table price right, just arrived. After a quick consultation walk around the parking lot, we returned and bought our table which was happily and carefully delivered the next Wednesday. What a delightful experience! Stumbled upon this store on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. This store has been here for years yet I finally found myself stopping in and admiring every detail. They offer a plethora of various 'vintage' light fixtures that caught my eyes. Others were coming and going, looking for special pieces, or just admiring the store, like myself. They also have pillow throws on the shelves and trinkets if you take the time to look around. The gal who was working the shift shared a little bit about this place. They have 'pickers' who shop at estate sales and this store buys them out. They also do their own woodworking finishes on cabinets and tables in-house. If you're around the area, drop in and you'll find yourself immersed back in time, lounging or jamming to some oldie tunes. This place is short of anything boring as items rotate often. I saw a couch i just had to have on instagram, so i messaged them and called and left a voicemail (i also accidentally called a second time which they thought was funny maybe that convinced them to help me out at least it didn't make them think i'm crazy) but they called me back before they even opened! Told me that it's getting a lot of hits and to head down and i said im coming from Hillsboro, so i drove and was crossing my fingers the whole time. Well, turns out they were telling people they were waiting for me to look at it! How kind! Said they didn't want my drive out to be in vain. Staff was friendly and joking around with me it was great! My husband and I have been looking for a big L-shaped couch for a few months and Lounge Lizard had the perfect one for only $600 - a fraction of the cost of a new one. On my last attempt a customer heard me asking for a chandelier. This person came bursting out the aisle way "go to lounge lizard!" She said it with suck pinaze I ran out google searching this wondrous place! I pulled up in their big parking lot! Yup! This place has Parking! Found the chandelier of my dreams! The perfect colors! And.... I found an awesome dish hutch with a splash of blue color. Absolutely fabulous with the colors of my house. If you need something different but elegant, or retro this place is the spot! I'll definitely come here first. Also if this place can't get any better, they have Delivery!! Yes, they will drop off heavy furniture at your driveway! The lovely humans on the store floor were positive and a pure delight to be around. I love the vibe of the store. Hip 'n cool used furniture right this way. Lounge Lizard is a groovy choice for decking out your domicile like you're in an episode of Portlandia. The lamps, chairs, sofas, tables and vintage decorative pieces give you the chance to find something that says, "keep me (and Portland) weird." The prices aren't the cheapest, but you're a unique snowflake, so, shop like one and get something that says "you" (and probably only you) ... no matter the price. Updated my living room and needed design help, new lighting and several new pieces. Kyle was very helpful with this cool tension rod light and customizing the color globes. Todd & Chris were great help with updating a couple table lamps with gorgeous, complementary shades...everything looks great AND adds just the right snaps of color all over the room! Of course, that wasn't all!! I also got a bargain on this perfect side table and it just took a few mins to sand the drawer fronts and spray paint the metal pieces to update its look. Lastly, this great mushroom ottoman was the perfect match for my UFO chair! It took a few trips to both stores and Chris & Todd's great design advice, but the room is now truly a masterpiece! read more

Very weird, semi-discriminatory experience with the staff at Lounge Lizard I went here on 8/11 to potentially buy a couch, and the staff made me feel deeply uncomfortable, and like I was doing something wrong. To give context, I have a speech disability which means that my voice sounds a little weird to people that aren't used to it. The way that I intended to shop for couches was to try out different couches I liked visually, and see how they felt over the course of a conversation I was having with my friend who was with me. As a person with chronic pain, sometimes whether or not a couch or chair causes physical discomfort isn't apparent until twenty minutes after sitting down. As couches are a relatively major purchase, it is important that I know whether or not it's comfortable for my body. I'm not sure what the staff thought was happening instead of what I've described above, which is partially why I'm choosing to clarify. The staff seemed immediately unnerved by my presence, and within ten minutes of sitting on the first couch I found, they sent someone over to investigate. I think it's important to be clear that this action was clearly not a routine "hi how are you," this person silently sat down right next to me and stared at me until I gave him my attention. I don't know if this person was just unsure how to proceed, but it felt super uncomfortable on my end. My friend and I were then followed around the shop by a different staff member wearing a George Clinton shirt. This person checked in on us every five minutes. This person also seemed to assume I was deaf, and tried to mitigate that by speaking louder, more simply, and gesturing a whole lot. None of which would actually be helpful to someone actually deaf, but I guess that's besides the point. At multiple points in this experience I communicated directly with the staff using a written note app on my phone, hoping that would make them less nervous about me and my intentions. After about an hour of this guy following us around thinking I'm deaf despite us - - I thought - - making it pretty clear that we didn't need assistance, I finally take it on myself to tell this person that I'm not deaf and he can speak normally if he'd like. To his credit he did apologize in a way that seemed genuine, and he seemed to be really embarrassed about the whole thing. It wasn't my goal to make him feel bad, I just didn't feel like the way he was treating me was the way he'd treat other customers and I was hoping that giving this bit of personal context would make him stop and leave us alone. He didn't, though, he just doubled down on it and maintained that same uncomfortable focus on us. I felt sort of forced to interact with this person and engage in conversation, then when we finally left to leave (without a couch) he just gave us a cold "yeah thanks". I have considered the possibility that Lounge Lizard pays commission, and that what this person was doing may have been partially because of that. I understand this - but even if this is the case, Lounge Lizard staff should be trained on how to treat people with disabilities and how to cultivate an accessible and inclusive sales environment - as it is extremely clear no such training has been implemented. This is not an isolated incident, it's just the most severe. I've lived in Portland for over a decade and Lounge Lizard is a place I often end up at whenever I want to buy a weird lamp, and I've always felt low-key uncomfortable with the way the staff treat me. I don't write reviews and I'm not a vindictive person, I know that my experience is not going to be the experience that most able-bodied people have at Lounge Lizard. I'm writing this in hopes that somebody at Lounge Lizard sees it and takes concrete steps to make Lounge Lizard a more welcoming place for people with disabilities. read more

Nice furniture here and there like many vintage stores in Portland. Unfortunately they keep your money and the item you bought, but never received. They couldn't locate the item upon pickup, but still wouldn't issue a refund. I had to report the charge as fraudulent to my bank. Also, this was just one of a few specific issues with their poor customer service. This one just topped the cake, because I'm out $280 that I have to chase down for nothing. read more
