The rest of the time, her touch was relatively smooth, firm and precise and I relaxed instantly and then fell asleep in the process. She must have felt my energy because as soon as we got the pleasantries out of the way, she just kept quiet and got to work. I work out a lot and she must have felt that my body was just too tight and maybe too tired. She loosened my muscles without causing me pain and I really appreciated that. I typically like deep tissue massages but there are also certain situations when I just needed to relax and give my body a break. She totally gave me that. She did say that she could have gone deeper but possibly not on this one. I slept like a baby. I was very disappointment that it had to end. To wake me up, she went back to her very light touches again. So the ending wasn't too drastic and I did have a very relaxing time. Will definitely go to Nahanni again. I told her something was too painful (just due to my sciatic muscle issues of at least six months) and she immediately took a break from the area to focus on something else. She listened to me throughout the whole thing and made sure to consult me about my history and how something felt or if her massage technique was doing what it should. I also have bacne and had leg stubble that I was fairly insecure of--Martha did not care. She worked through them both as if they were not there. Spoke to Martha, who informed me that Cheryl is available in few days and that she is incredible. I booked the 90 minute session and Cheryl did her magic. She concentrated on my shoulder and lower back as I requested. Cheryl has that warm touch which makes you relax. My shoulder felt good after she was done with her magic. I didn't have any of the post massage body pains with Cheryl. What ever her trick is, I need to be back for more since I feel so much better. My 90 minutes went by fast and I wished that I had booked 2 hours. Yep, she's that good! This isn't a fancy shmancy spa. It's clean, relaxed atmosphere and the rooms are calming. Just as an fyi, she is very busy so email was ultimately the best way to communicate with her. If you are able to use that method, I highly recommend it instead.... otherwise you may end up playing a bit of phone tag. I was familiar with Breathe Yoga Studio already so I knew exactly where she was located but for the uninitiated, Breathe is in the shopping center at Pollard and Winchester. Aldo's Ristorante and The Garret Station are in the same center. Parking is ample. The studio is small and serene and the massage room is in the back behind the tea bar. Check in with the receptionist and they will let Shannon know you're there. The room itself is very nice and has a huge bathroom with a shower attached so that you can rinse off before or after (though, I wouldn't expect to spend a lot of time primping unless you make prior arrangements.... time may be a factor). Shannon is very straightforward and open. I found her easy to talk with and give feedback to... More quiet massage was also very comfortable. Shannon is a strong woman and very thorough so if you're looking for a therapeutic, sports or deep tissue massage with someone who will really listen, pay attention and give you what you need... you'll be very happy here. this review is about a year overdue, but better late than never!…read more i scheduled a 90 minute massage with shannon about a week before my half marathon since i knew that my muscles would be needing some tender loving care the day after the race. it was easy scheduling a time with shannon, i called her, left a voice mail with my preferred day/time and she called me back shortly thereafter and we confirmed an appt. when i came in, my legs were definitely quite sore and tight, so i came in hoping that shannon would be able to ease the tightness, flush out the lactic acid, and get some blood circulating back in my quads, hamstrings, and calves. we spent a few minutes discussing my needs and current status, and shannon told me that she regularly works on tri-athletes and is therefore very familiar with athletes' muscles. since i was fresh off a "stressful" event, at least, for my body, she said that she would not be giving me deep tissue treatment, but rather a lighter, swedish to help loosen up the tight leg muscles. she used long, smooth strokes on my legs, and took her time in breaking up the tight muscles and adhesions that had formed as a result of the pounding from the day before. she also spent a good amount of time on my back since that was a bit sore as well, not quite as sore as my legs, but still in need of some attention. overall, i received an excellent massage, and shannon definitely has a great feel for the body. aside from the fact that i had just completed a half marathon 24 hrs earlier and was quite sore from the waist down, i didn't have to give her any additional information in order for her to give me a fabulous massage.

So I visited Joy's Therapeutic Massage on 3/26/2012. I advised her that I would like her to focus on my upper back / shoulder area and my feet to relieve tension. She asked that since this was my first time here, if I could pay her first ($50.00), which I did. I found that odd, but not unreasonable. Within the first few minutes it was clear to me that I made a bad decision. I would characterize her treatment as more of a gentle rubbing, and certainly not a massage much less a deep tissue massage. It was apparent that she did not have a concept of muscle groupings. I reminded her that I need special attention to my upper back and shoulder areas (muscles are totally knotted up) - she glossed over them like a butter brush over a croissant. She did use some hot item on my back (could have been a stone - I didn't see it so I don't know for sure) as part of the massage. While that in itself felt good - I really needed the deep tissue massage to loosen up my muscles - so it was a waste on my opinion. The lower pillow on the massage table (where you rest your arms under your chin/face area) had a dried pool of drool from a previous customer - gross...... I hold myself partially accountable as I went the less-expensive route and selected her to perform this service. I've literally had better massages at quickie airport massage bars. I now see why she asked for the money upfront. She must have had previous customers simply walk out on her. Moving forward, I will seek out a professional massage therapist that is a CMT. Bottom line here: you get what you pay for.......
