I absolutely LOVE this lil boutique grocery store in Venice! Such delicious, unique, and hard to find goodies in this local neighborhood store from pre-made sandwiches, to fermented veggies, to gourmet chocolates bars, to a full wine cabinet, to dried pasta. I would say this place is like the local/farmers market esque version of Erewhon. Service has always been great every time I've been in. It's definitely an expensive store, but you're paying for the quality of product in my opinion. It's a cute little neighborhood store on the inside, with a couple tables to sit on the outside. I'm honestly shocked this place didn't have a higher rating on Yelp. I saw a couple comments on the tipping prompt at a grocery store but they do also have a coffee shop inside where you can order drinks, baked goods, etc and they use the same POS so my assumption is the tipping prompt is for that purpose and if for some reason you'd like to tip your cashier checking you out for groceries, more power to ya. Parking note: it's in the heart of downtown Venice so parking is a bit nutty (and you'll likely have to pay) - just something to be mindful of if you're in a time crunch. read more

Stumbled by here today while wandering Venice into this lovely little grocery haven! Has some beautiful craft artisan deliciousness such as chocolates, unique olive oils, and fun foodie gifts. Not to mention craft boozes and pastries from their own bakery. Enjoyed everything I bought including the croissant with white sesame (like a nutty butter spread), ham and cheese croissant, and the incredibly deliciously rich olive oil lemon cake recommended by the nice counter lady who was oh so patient with my many questions. Love! PS: highly recommend putting your croissant in the air fryer for extra flakiness! read more

Stumbled in here to get something for a last minute birthday snack for the beach and realized there were yummy things to get for myself/to take home/small casual date picnic but not for celebration. It is definitely quite pricey but it's a Gjusta joint so you know what you're doing walking in here. What I think is a little off and odd is the tipping portion. I'm really sorry but the only grocery place that should be tipped should be Trader Joe's peeps or the ones at the rough part of town who is showing up. If I'm spending $70 for air dried meat, a wine, and a dip, I hope to God the people working here is getting paid well enough to get their basic human needs met. read more

Stopped by while waiting for a table across the street. I had heard good things about their sourdough bread. There were no prices displayed but the breads were on display so we could ask about them. A sourdough boule was $11. There was a short line but it moved quickly. The cashier was no-nonsense and not exactly friendly but it had probably been a long day for him. Will come back for another boule and maybe try another bread next time I'm in Venice. The store looked cute and curated, but definitely pricey but that's because of the name and location. read more

This place is shit as its namesake deli--if not worse. Gjusta Grocer supposedly offers iced tea and lemonade, so I thought ordering an Arnold Palmer would be no problem. Instead, I was met with a flat-out, 'No, we can't make that here.' Even after pointing out they have both ingredients, they just repeated the refusal with a smug smirk. Basic customer service is clearly too much to ask. As if that weren't enough, they also refuse to accept American Express. So, if you use Amex, you're simply out of luck. They seem perfectly content turning away paying customers with an elitist attitude. Honestly, if they'd let me buy the business I honestly would. Just to shut it down out of spite! This place is so exactly what is wrong with Venice. We used to have a really amazing neighborhood market that sold real food and products at real prices for normal people. Now we have this stupid pretentious delicate disgustingly overpriced nonsense store. No one is ever in there. I walked in today and they wanted to charge me $2.50 for ONE ear of corn. Yes, the same ear of corn that costs $0.79 at Whole Foods and less at any other store. How gross. I looked at the poor guy behind the counter and laughed as he said the price, and he looked back at me with a look that said, "yeah, i get it". How dumb. Close up and make room for a store that actually serves a purpose greater than being another instagram backdrop. Go away. read more

I have been a huge fan of this place since first going in a few weeks ago. The Turkey Banh Mi is incredible! The veggie sandwich is also wonderful but I would be cautious of this one as it caused some food poisoning today. I rang them just to inform of the possible issue and I was met with an incredible amount rudeness. No sorry or any acknowledgment whatsoever. Let me start off by saying this spot motivated me to finally review a restaurant. I wanted to be able to recommend this place in spite of how ridiculously expensive they are because the food was actually delicious. However what happened to me while eating in their outdoor area was a nightmare and absurd. During the entire meal we were swarmed by some type of biting flies that have left me with over 20 red welts all over my legs and ankles. The itching has gotten so bad I am forced to go to a doctor. I understand we were outside and restaurants are known to attract bugs. But this magnitude of infestation goes beyond the acceptable and crosses over to unsanitary and unhealthy. Beloved Mom and Pop Grocery closed so that Gjusta could take over this space. Windward Market had some of the best sandwiches. Great community vibe. They were part of the neighborhood for 28 years. Can you imagine working somewhere 20+ years which a large part of your life and then just being fired. Then new people who take over say, "we will interview you". What is that? There is a joke about Nixon that if you were drowning 20 feet out, he would throw you a 11 foot rope, and his press secretary would say "the president is meeting you more than half way". I have always had positive experiences at Gjusta Grocer. The staff was helpful and offered great suggestions. They have a wonderful selection of dips and premade salads and sides to go.
