Easy walking distance between all of the lodges on the south end. I got the veggie patty on the ortega pepperjack burger and was blown away! Delicious, I need to figure out where to find ortega peppers! (I've just looked it up and all I can find online is it's a brand of died canned peppers but this was a large slice, so I'm really not sure now. I think must be similar to an anaheim. I stayed in the Joseph area for 5 days. The town itself is wonderful. They are surrounded by the Wallowa mountain range. I ate at a few places while there BUT the last night before we left we went here. You know when you go to a place you haven't been to and wish you would have gone sooner? Yup that's this moment. I had the steak salad. The steak was perfectly tender, the dried cherries was a very nice touch and their dressing was perfect. My friends that were with me agreed as well. He had the veggie burger and she had the fish and chips. It's a pretty laid back place. They've got a small outside that provides my dog to be with me. Very good drinks, full bar. The server was great as well. If I ever go back to Joseph this will be one of the FIRST places I will visit. read more

We spent 7 hours on the lake and needed a meal to give us energy for the second half of the day, so we were pretty open to anything, knowing where we stopped may not be the best place -- we all agreed on the closest option, even though we'd all been burned by general store/cafes before. We were very impressed by the service and food and had a great experience. We had several kids in our party and our server was fun and friendly and attentive to their small requests and was patient with their quiet voices while learning to order for themselves. read more

Our food was delicious!! We got a Wallowa burger and it was possibly the best burger I've had in my life. The bread was fresh, the produce was fresh, the burger wasn't greasy. We also got a grilled cheese on sourdough with sidewinders, fish n chips and a club sando and everything was good. The store has cute souvenirs too. We were in town and looking for a spot we could walk to. Honestly, we were a little skeptical at first because of the Yelp rating, but we're so glad we decided to give it a try. The Chicken Fried Steak special was delicious, and the portions were just right. We also took one of Grandma K's Salted Caramel Bars back to our room--absolutely incredible! Excellent food, reasonable prices, and excellent, friendly service. The special tonight was seared tilapia and scallops with grilled vegetables and rice pilaf. The salad was fresh with local tomatoes. The vegetables were exceptional: organic gold and purple cauliflower, carrots, hatch peppers, green onions, and sun dried tomatoes grilled to perfection. This review is for the restaurant only since we did not even enter the general store part. This place has excellent service, mediocre food and minimum parking. It is the service that gives it three rather than two stars for me. We were greeted immediately and with a smile. We sat outside in a nice warm summer evening. The waitress brought menus and water quickly, came back again perfectly timed to take food orders, and was always cheerful. The food, oh how I wish you were better. The Flat Iron chicken sandwich has a large piece of chicken, but it was a sad looking, bland tasting, messy Marvin of a sandwich otherwise. The Mac and Cheese that my daughter had looked similar. Super close to Wallowa Lake State Park. The place is a little tough on parking, but has everything some campers or returning backpackers could need. The restaurant is nice and cutely decorated. There is a small bar and plenty of tables that seat 4. There is an attached store with all the necessities. Local beer is on tap! Had a wonderful experience! Our friends each had the mini personal pizzas and they enjoyed them. My husband and I had mushroom burgers. They also were tasty. This was a great place for a family, as it is one of the only casual dining options on the south side of the lake. Good variety and solid grill food. Not much seating so get there early. I'll vouch that the wait staff, just a couple of gals, were working their butts off taking care of the dinner crowd. The effort was appreciated. Will definitely be back. read more
