What an amazing site in the National Park. This is an abandoned town from the early to mid 1900's…read morethat had quite the past. They do an excellent job of explaining the buildings and life when it was a booming steam engine railroad town. Take your time visiting the area. I could believe that it is an active Amtrak site today.

They did a good job putting up information and learned so much about what it was like to work here for the railroads way back when. It's incredible how times change, things become more efficient, jobs are reduced, and eventually eliminated. I spent a total of an hour and 15 minutes here for reference. There is a gift shop where I got my usual souvenir magnet, but there are other neat things here as well! I was tempted to buy the "dining on the railway" book (or a name something like that). A great piece of history here and I hope someday the interiors of the buildings can be brought up to code and replicated to look how they did in their heyday so we can get a real feel of walking into the businesses (also a rebuild of the Lafayette Hotel would be amazing, even if just a smaller scale). I'm glad what is there has been preserved by the NPS! I have to say, I left West Virginia with a treasure trove of history!

Do you want to have a good time (ping-pong table, outdoor area), very good food, and good beers? Go…read morehere. The space is also very nicely decorated, with beautiful murals, some industrial decor lighting, and flair--super cool. We went there after our all-day whitewater rafting trip and it was the right place to unwind and eat until our calories returned to us!

Just Like How I Brew it Up…read more We're usually pretty good about having our spots to eat lined up when traveling but occasionally we'll have a "fuck it let's see where we end up" kinda day, and this was one of them. I literally spotted a wooden sign along the 19 advertising for Freefolk Brewery and--after seeing the positive Yelps--we headed straight there. Established in 2018, this is the OG location for Freefolk Brewing, which has since moved their brewing operations to larger digs in Hico, WV. But this location stands as a taproom for their suds, as well as operating a small kitchen. The Good: *Love the location in the middle of nowhere. Really captures the essence of WV. *Décor is also really great with lots of paintings, murals, and other fun things to discover indoors. *Great dog-friendly outdoor space that hosts live music on weekends. *Small but strong menu that leans heavily on Greek/Mediterranean grub. *Nine of their beers on-tap (they do have guest taps as well) that features everything from IPAs to gose's and even sours. *Service was friendly and fast *Fast-casual as you order at the counter, get a buzzer and then pick up your food when ready. *Baklava cheesecake was out-of-this-world great. I loved the crunch from the Filo dough and pistachios and the taste of the thick, rich honey. *Food was surprisingly very not bad. I enjoyed my Traditional Gyro and Greek Salad, and everyone else did, as well. Nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible, either. The Meh: *While a small menu is fine by me, it might limit certain pickier folks who aren't into Mediterranean food. The Ugly: *Remote location is great during the day but might be a lil' sus at night time if you smell what I'm cooking. TLDR: Great spot for some Greek bites and tasty suds.
