There won't be enough space or enough stars here to fully describe the experience of 1010 Bridge. This is hands-down the most unassuming fine dining restaurant, nestled in a small village above the Kanawah River in Charleston, WV. If not your destination, you might miss it completely--and what a shame that would be!! This was the best four course meal (maybe ever) and one I won't soon forget. Happy birthday to me!! I was In Charleston, WV for one night. After finishing business, which was a nightmare, I decided on a nice dinner. Seems many restaurants are closed on Mondays but 1010 Bridge turned up with great reviews. First it is very unassuming. Sort of a storefront in a strip of other businesses, but when you walk in that all changes. The atmosphere is very sold and romantic. Unfortunately I was alone. Seems reservations are a must. Monday night and you need reservations? When you go there you'll understand. Very busy with reservation notices on most all tables and even at the bar. I was given a seat at the bar, which is not my preference but worked fine. I was acknowledged immediately and got a drink immediately. The menu. Excellent choices but at first glance pricey. I ordered the Denver steak which came out pretty quickly and cooked perfectly. Came with mashed potatoes and some veggies. The steak came sliced and was one of the tenderest steaks I recall having. Everything was perfect so why 4 stars? I can be a little particular when out of town and eating at a local restaurant. Although seating at the bar was ok I was a little disappointed, and parking is very difficult, just a few spaces in front of the building to accommodate all the stores and a few across the street. I parked in the Walgreens parking lot across the street and took the chance of not being towed. Although 4 stars, I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I'm in Charleston again. Great service, very nice and food came out very quick tho it was very busy inside. I loved my vodka cocktail, very balanced and delicious. Really enjoyed our appetizer zucchini chips. Strawberry spinach salad was pretty good. The main dish Shrimp and grits was very tasty, had a LOT of sauce on the side, I'm not huge on sauce so I didn't really eat much of it tho it's delicious (not a big sauce girl). I arranged some other travel to bring me to Charleston in the evening, just so I could dine here, and it did not disappoint! I was solo, so made a reservation to sit at the bar. I had a Signature 1010 cocktail and then later a Mr. McGregor's Garden; both are whiskey based, have only a few ingredients, and both were interesting and delicious. The regular menu looked good, but everything I ate was a special. I had raw oysters, lobster bisque, and the grouper special. The oysters were excellent - I was pleasantly surprised by how big they were. The lobster bisque was served with lobster in a bowl, and the bisque broth poured over (also quite good). The special I had was grouper (my favorite fish) served over a seafood risotto with green beans. Very beautifully presented and delicious. There was team service at the bar, which was nicely attentive and friendly. Chef Paul Smith came out from the kitchen to the bar to chat with the patrons and make sure everyone was enjoying their meal. This restaurant struck me as a place that is focused on both quality and accessibility. The quality of the ingredients in the food spoke for themselves (not many places to hide shortcuts in raw oysters!). However, the food wasn't overly complicated or niche and the ambience was cozy (the bar merges with the dining room in a single space). It comes off as friendly versus snobby. The prices aren't cheap, but I feel a very good value for the food and service that you receive. I really enjoyed my dining experience here, and will scheme my future travel so I can dine here again! read more

We visited 1010 tonight (6/19/25) to celebrate my five year remission for cervical cancer. Chef Paul was gracious, accommodating, and generous. Additionally, our server, Chris, was attentive, engaging, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed a small plates surprise, which was delectable, our favorite zucchini ribbons, and squash bisque to start. 10 of 10. No notes. We then shared the special, roasted duck, and the fisherman's pie. We were mesmerized by the tiny popping peppers in the fishermen's pie, having never seen/tried them. What a delight. It's a rarity to experience innovation but Chef Paul has it down. We topped off our culinary delights with a few specialty cocktails, bananas foster bread pudding, and the crème brûlée of the day. Wow. Rolled in here with my niece and her hubs, it is one of their favorites and they really wanted to introduce us. We had a group of seven and we tried about half the menu with lots of sharing. I don't even order steak and I enjoyed some ribeye it was awesome. We also had the fried green tomatoes, whipped feta, shrimp, hot oysters, blue cheese mashed potatoes and dessert - chocolate tort. The food was amazing, as you'd expect from a James Beard award winner for Best in the Southeast as well as previous nominations. I've been here a few times since my original review, and it's always top notch. The employees take pride in their work and chef Paul is often seen around the restaurant and will happily talk with anyone. The ambiance is good and relaxed, not super fancy or anything that would make you feel underdressed. NOTE: This is a rare restaurant that takes reservations even for barstools! Walking in to empty spots at the bar doesn't necessarily mean they're available- - usually those are also reserved! My initial complaint was about a huge disappointment with having reservations for a booth for our 20 year anniversary, and getting bumped to a high top near the front and the bathrooms. An unfortunate mistake made on an important dinner for us, but mistakes happen, and everything else about this place has been remarkable. read more

Even at 4;30 we couldn't get regular table but could be seated at high top or counter. We picked high top and had trouble picking what to order as so much looked interesting. I started with the signature cocktail which was something with bourbon or whiskey I should have known I'd not like it. It was strong. We shared the fried oyster appetizer and yummm. Hubby had the halibut it was great the parm gnocchi were exceptional. Wish thry had side item with lots of of them. I had the risotto carbonara with side of scallops. I liked both our meals. As the chef is a winner of the prestigious James Beard award I was super excited to try this restaurant while I was in town and it happily was close to my aunts house. Sadly, all the dishes I tried were misses for me. In fairness I forgot I don't really care for feta so the appraiser was my fault. The steak has a fruity sort of glaze that didn't really do it for me. The gingerbread crème brûlée for dessert was better but I mostly left off the ginger bread sugar top. The service was wonderful though even at the bar (they aren't kidding when they recommend reservations!) and I want to come back to try some more items before giving up. read more

The fall menu launched last week--and it's a terrific addition to the standard options. Tonight, I had the Pork Shank Puttanesca. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone! My starter was a mushroom bisque that hit the spot. I couldn't pass on dessert with so many wonderful selections--and decided upon the apple pie bread pudding. No regrets. I love how the hostess asks if you are there for a special occasion when you call to reserve a table. The server noted our celebration and appeared genuinely happy to share in our good news The restaurant was packed as usual, but was a little quieter than normal--and that made it easier to converse at the table. Service was exceptional. We sat at the bar and even though the place was packed, the bartender made sure we never waited or wanted for anything. The calamari was exceptional. The addition of artichokes and capers and olives was really good. It was, however, a little overpriced for how small the portion was. I had the 1010 Cut with Lobster Mac. The steak was ok, but a little fatty. The truffle butter made up for the cut of meat. Unfortunately the steak was ALSO covered in a demi glaze that didn't go with the truffle butter at all. The lobster mac was ok but there was very little lobster. My aunt had the scallops and they were fantastic. This joint was right on point! The minute we walked through the door, we felt a sense of community and unity. We made reservations, and our spot was specially saved for us. We sat at the bar and was served by the wonderful Josiah. He was so friendly and attentive and helped us with our menu selections. He also made the refreshing, tasty drinks. I had perused the menu prior to coming and looked at the photos as well. We ordered the cast iron seared 1010 cut steak and the braized beef short rib bolognese for our main meal. We also had a 1010 Caesar salad along with bacon wrapped dates and white cheddar pimento cheese. What can I say... Everything we had was delicious. The bacon wrapped dates we warm with blue cheese inside. The pimento cheese and crackers were rich with flavor. And I mean even the crackers were spiced and buttery. The Brussels sprouts melted in my mouth.A steak was easily cut and I had to barely chew it.It was so tender and then let's talk about that creamy dreamy lobster mac and cheese. Not sure all the cheeses in there, but I could almost lick the bowl. I added a couple of seared scallops that completed my surf and turf. The pasta was made with thick noodles that helped to hold the bolognese sauce and the braised short rib. Everything we ordered and ate was so delicious! Spent the day in Charleston and was wondering if we'd be able to find a spot like this: delicious, great menu, and five-star service, anywhere in the state, and 1010 answered the call!!! First off, thank you BB (our server) for being the best Waiter and ambassador to the state. :) Everything we ate was worthy in its own right, but I especially considered the Salmon a must-buy. It was the best salmon I've had for a while. I always debate if it's worth buying out since I can make it pretty quickly, affordable, and deliciously at home, but YES, at 1010 it's worth buying the salmon. The scoop on the bolognese is that it was a solid choice and good portion size, but it didn't justify a visit to 1010 all on its own. I appreciate that it still held up to all of the other dishes we got. I don't know if I'll find myself in Charleston again anytime soon, but if I do I'd definitely go back! What a treat! We had an incredible dinner here on our way home from vacation. I emailed the restaurant to see if I could get a same day reservation and they responded immediately that someone is there to take reservations via phone prior to the restaurant opening time of 4pm. When we got there, it was busy and we were so glad to have a reservation. We were seated in a booth at the end. It's a very charming space. I got a French country vibe. Our server was excellent and told us about the 5 specials they had that evening. We ordered drinks and starters before deciding what to have for dinner. I had the "pearfection" cocktail, which I'd call dangerously delicious! I definitely wanted more than one! We shared everything and it was all amazing! Everything came out with perfect timing too. The dishes we had were the fried oysters, grilled peaches (special), seared 1010 cut, salmon cake (special), and the fried banana bread pudding. Admittedly, I'm not an oyster lover but I could eat these regularly. They were so good and that pickle really did it for me. We had read about the fried banana bread pudding before making a reservation so we made sure to save room. It was definitely worth it. It paired well with the glass of port we ordered too. Made an earlier reservation. We were seated promptly. Our table was a small 2 top which was perfectly fine for us. We were quickly greeted by our server, he took his time with us and gave us time to enjoy the menu while making our decisions. We were also served bread which was delicious. We started with an appetizer of the hot Nashville oysters which were delicious. For our main courses we both went with the 1010 cut meal; every single part of this meal was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly. The lobster Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious with large chunks of lobster. The side of Brussels sprouts also fantastic, perfectly seasoned. There was not one part of our meal that I would speak badly about. We did have a small water drop above our table but we were immediately moved to another table (water leak was absolutely not their fault and just par for the course--it had been raining for over a week). We will be back for special events (kind of pricey for a quick date night but perfect for a celebration (birthday, new job, anniversary etc). The food was hit or miss. The portions were a good size with the exception of the beet and fried goat cheese salad. Onion soup was awesome. Salad was small but great. The bolognese was large in size but basically all short rib with minimal flavor. The charcuterie board gets a 2 star. If it wasn't for the pickled vegetables it would get a 1 star - bad cheese selection and meats straight from the deli counter. Desserts were on point. The ambiance was amazing and once we met Derek at the bar where we had dinner the rest of the evening just got better. The atmosphere and service of 1010 Bridge is spectacular--intimate, dimly lit, rustic, classy. The restaurant staff kindly greet you as you walk in and are extremely attentive throughout the meal. As for the food, the menu is essentially "comfort" food elevated to create a fine dining experience. To preface, every dish was artwork and tasted fantastic. The oysters were perfectly fried. The fried chicken was juicy and seasoned. The steak melted in the mouth like butter. The dessert (we ordered the chocolate pie and peach's & cream and ate everything before taking photos) was phenomenal, perhaps the best part of the meal. I ordered the Dill and Dijon Salmon dish but unfortunately, I didn't find it enjoyable. The green color on top of the fish was unappealing to me, and the fish itself was dry. I believe the green topping consisted of dill and breadcrumbs. The fish was served with Dijon sauce under it, yet it still couldn't prevent the fish from being dry. Although the accompanying vegetables and potatoes were great, I couldn't bring myself to finish the fish. Service was good. read more

Our salmon and fish platters were greasy/oily. Why does salmon have oil on it? Do they deep fry it? It was average meal but kinda overpriced for what we got. The server was nice but seemed to have changed her attitude after I asked if they had plastic straws? She said to do my part to save the turtles.
