This morning we were heading back to CT after a wonderful weekend in Manchester. We were looking to grab a quick breakfast for the road. I called to place an order with Susan and she was wonderful! Owner was very rude about substituting a pancake for a waffle. I even offered to pay more money! She went into some explanation about a pancake vs a waffle even though they are the same price on the menu. Why wouldn't you want to make customers happy? Why wouldn't you let a customer pay more if they want something? You are a greasy little diner behaving like you're 11 Madison Park. I didn't freak out, I simply left because these people were rude. Every single customer can influence your business. It's why we have Yelp and why recommendations and reviews are the lifeblood of restaurants. Every person should be treated like someone who can make or break your business. This has always been true and is more true than ever with influencers etc. Bad business and rude people who have no respect for a customer who drove out of their way to visit. read more

This is what you want when you go out to breakfast! A warm room when it's cold outside, a warm welcome, and hot coffee brought right away with a smile. Pleasant background music that was, omg, actually in the background, not blaring so loud we could not talk! The food was so good and portions ample, from the eggs Benedict to the real maple syrup on the delicious pancakes. We were not forgotten diners - the amazing waitperson (daughter of the owner) came over to refill coffee, brought food quickly, came back to make sure all was right at our table. And it was. My mom and I stayed here for a night prior to our camping trip. We got a late start to our day and by the time we arrived at Manchester, it was too late to set up camp and not to mention raining and lightning. A solid no on setting up camp at the state park! We called while ordering a sandwich in town then drove over to check in. Front desk was really friendly, giving advice on hiking a trail nearby. We ended up not going on any hikes because of health issues and foot problems, maybe next time we will be up to it! We didn't get breakfast in the morning because we had lots of food to eat up for camping! There is nice landscaping outside the room and also fire pit for all. The room was super cute, the beds very comfy, the wifi worked well and it was a wonderful choice! Too bad I didn't get a picture of the room before we went to bed! I would recommend this spot for a few nights if you are looking for cheap lodging that is also comfy! read more

This is now Nipper's Cafe and is located just down a few minutes walk from the the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Manchester. They serve breakfast and lunch. Currently their main chef is out on medical leave. so they reduced their menu a little bit, but they still had a lot of options. Their food and waitstaff were outstanding! My wife and I went here for breakfast. I had eggs Benedict with spinach and bacon and my wife had the cinnamon French toast. Fresh ingredients and large portion sizes for a good price. Green Mountain coffee was served. The place was busy when we got there about 9:45am, but we were were able to get a seat right away and our food came quickly. My guess is being a ski town that it might be even busier earlier in the morning. All in in all, a great place run by local people who are very nice. read more

The boyfriend and I stayed for two nights at the lodge right next door and stopped by Nipper's for breakfast lunch and dinner throughout our stay. Here's a quick breakdown - brunch on Saturday I ordered an egg white omelet and huevos rancheros to go and took it back to our room. The omelete was made with 3 eggs and was done beautifully. Huevos rancheros = delicious, filling, and non-greasy - dinner Saturday i got there at 630 and there were 2 other tables there already. We were placed at a small table for 2 in the middle of the room (i really hoped we could've sat at larger table in a better location especially since there weren't that many people yet - but it wasn't a big deal) I ordered the tuna salad and the boyfriend ordered the ribeye (bleu cheese). My salad was great but the steak was even better! It was definitely a good idea to talk to the owner (?)/waitress and get her recommendations. We got a couple of beers also and the bill was super reasonable. There was live music and the ambiance was great! (the free chocolate chip cookies was a great finish to our night!) - breakfast Sunday be sure to order their coffee and put extra milk in it (you're welcome) it was the best coffee i've had in awhile. I got the spinach and bacon eggs Benedict and the bf got a combo meal. I highly recommend my dish because you can just taste the freshness of the ingredients. This is true not only for this meal for all the meals i've had here Definitely do not regret having all of my VT meals in this place because it was convenient, reasonably priced, and fresh & delicious! read more

The food was fresh, flavorful, and plentiful, and the service was fantastic. I cannot imagine why the one standout negative review complained about this restaurant. I have nothing but positivity to leave. I came with a large group of seven people and we all were thrilled with the food and service. We ordered a huge amount of food - appetizers of chicken wings, clams, red pepper antipasto, and panko shrimp. I loved all of that, though maybe the clams a bit less so. The antipasto, shrimp, and chicken wings were absolutely wonderful. The medium hot sauce and BBQ sauces of the wings - mmm!! Honestly some of the best wings I ever had on my life. THAT good - and I am not even a huge chicken wing fan! For entrees we ordered different burgers, horseradish crusted salmon, steak, and crab cakes. I did not try all the entrees but we all enjoyed what we ate and licked plates clean. My only tip for the crab cakes would be to slightly season the mashed potato side dish a bit more; otherwise the crab cakes, sauce, and side of zucchini and summer squash was fantastic. For dessert we purchased chocolate chip cookies, which were good. I should add that the restaurant is also located in an absolutely astonishingly beautiful locale; sit outside if you want to really enjoy the experience! I also would like to THANK the restaurant for pricing the food with normal, decent, not bank breaking prices - a rarity for the area. Thank you!!!! I give this a solid four stars; probably deserves 4.25 stars, even. I probably will be back again during our trip to Vermont! read more

What a gem! Nipper's, from the outside, looks like an average cafe--don't let the exterior fool you. The chef impresses with creative dishes and fresh ingredients. There were six of us, and we each ordered different things that night for dinner, plus appetizers--you get a 25% discount on them when you check in on Yelp!, btw. My meal, a special chicken with mushrooms, was so good--tender and flavorful. They also have these wonderful bottled sodas--birch beer! Everyone enjoyed their meal and agreed it was the best food we had during our four day trip to Manchester, VT. The service was also spectacular. Our waitress was kind and attentive. She answered questions and made recommendations. Fun fact: Nipper's is named after the RCA dog mascot--you know, the one who barks into the victrola?--our waitress explained this to us on our way out. And, the owners' last restaurant was named Maxwell's after their own dog. Anyways, I like places that our unique and have a "homey" feel to them. The staff seemed generally happy to work there, which is an indication that the management is doing something right. Definitely stop in at Nipper's if you want to have a great dining experience in Southern Vermont. read more

Decided to dine here after seeing their impressive wine list. Perfect summer evening so we ate on the patio watching the sunset over the mountain. Very friendly relaxed service. The salmon special and double pork chop entree with glazed pears and blue cheese were perfection. Worth the short drive outside the town center. Food was better than many more expensive restaurants. By far the best restaurant in Manchester for quality of food with good friendly service at reasonable prices!!!!! Had the soup of the Day which was Roasted Red Pepper with Goat Cheese--SPECTACULAR!!! Many of the greens are straight out of their own garden. Ahi Tuna Salad or Dinner is best seafood in Manchester, along with Crab Cakes to die for. Great Steaks or Pork Loin. Just had a 1/2 pound Angus Burger with Steak Sauce and a Caesar Salad which was the best Burger I've had for years. PLEASE don't let the "Motel Location" fool you--this is the hidden dining gem of Manchester!!! Beautiful outdoor dining area in addition to air conditioned dining room. Appreciate your response. We will agree to disagree. I have hundreds of cheesesteaks and this was the first I ever received it served on a round roll. Although the meat was ok and of better quality than the normal meat (sic)served on these type of sandwiches does not make it a better experience. There is a certain comfort in the sand which dice meat normally utilized. The traditional sand which is greaser but more flavorful I do feel that there was inadequate coverage that night for a fairly busy room. I really wanted to like this place. I really wanted to give this a thumbs up. The decor was nice-simple but clean. The menu was basic but hey, I would have been ok with that too. The appetizers- spring rolls and chicken wings- really good! But that was the end of the positives. My kids' Mac and cheese was basically what I make at home from a box-in the microwave- for $1. They charge $6. The rib eye which was "what we're known for" as per the either overtired or slightly hung over server--was way too fatty even for a ribeye--and gamey...and chewy. So much so it could not be digested. For nearly $40. The crab cakes, the other fan favorite on the reviews, were just "ehe". Sure, they were edible...but just...nothing great. For $20. I really wanted to like this place-but unless you're just getting appetizers--aka deep fried food--look elsewhere. read more

First off the place is extremely small. I think there were only 6 tables. I had checked some other reviews on another website and they seemed to have good reviews. However my experience was not enjoyable. Went with my wife, we ordered wine with dinner. I had a red that must have been next to a heat source as it was hot, not very enjoyable. I ordered the steak with mushroom sauce. At $33.95 for a 12 oz steak I expected something exceptional. I like my steak meduim-rare. When I got the steak it was almost rare. I thought it would be covered in the mushroom sauce and it was not. Got like maybe two tablespoons of sauce. My wife had the crab cakes, they were okay but again not exceptional. Cost us over $80 for two entrees and a glass of wine each. Also after we got our meals, heard the waitress telling another couple that they had specials for meals that evening, she never mentioned any specials to us. Just north of Manchester's bustling city center is a real Vermont breakfast. I'm talking chickens roaming free outside, a kitchen garden out back and the family working as a team to operate the restaurant. Don't blink driving by or you'll miss the unassuming hanging sign that says "Nipper's Cafe." It's inside the Stamford Motel. Enter through the office door. Nipper's Steakhouse is a bit of a misnomer as they serve breakfast in addition to dinner but there is no steak on the breakfast menu. The hostess station is right inside the door and the hostess gave us our choice of two-top. The tables have plenty of space between them and are set with linens and a glass top. It's a small, intimate space with a large fishtank and stocked sideboard bar as focal points. Our omelettes were delicious. Real, local ingredients and made to order. Both omlettes had ingredients that had not been previously frozen and the cheese was grated in house. There was no tell-tale cellulose powder involved. The menu is short and straight up breakfast. Eggs any way, with or without hollandaise, toast, hash, breakfast meat, veg, french toast and pancakes. The Rye toast is generous. The bacon is thick-cut, smokey goodness. Minus a star for the sticky, dusty hot sauce bottles with a solid layer of dried sauce at the tops. And if the menu gives a quantity, plate that quantity. If a side of bacon is three pieces, send out three pieces. Overall a great, welcome find in the Manchester area for fine dining at a fair price with friendly service. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our party of 6 went in on a Friday night. Surprisingly, there was only 1 other table. Their entrees are priced on the generous side, I think because this is close tot he outlet shopping. However, the staff is also fantastic! Our server was funny, polite and knowledgeable. I ordered the salmon special and it was pretty good, the veggies were great the rice was defiantly on the dry side. The rolls that came with the meal were fresh and quite large. HIdden away in a motel, best known to locals. The best Filet Au Poivre that my wife and I have ever had. Their homemade balsamic vinaigrette is fantastic as is the service. Atmosphere is pleasant if not exceptional. The quality of the food itself rates the five star review. Have only had breakfast (it is only open for breakfast and dinner) once but the variety and quality was outstanding. Well worth the five minute trip north of downtown Manchester. read more
