Wow! I do not indulge in breakfast treats very often, but after having some of Glam Doll's Donuts I'd be willing to run an extra mile everyday. Their donuts are amazing...not dense but fluffy and delicious. Their beautiful packaging sets up the donut experience almost as well as the donuts themselves. I called the day before to ensure 2 dozen donuts were ready to pick up promptly at 7:15AM, and sure enough they were ready to go in their lovely pink box. Well, my significant other let me treat myself after visiting the bridal shop down the street. We saw some people order donuts and decided to give it a try. I myself miss the Dunkin Donuts from Boston so tried something more familiar. It was an orange spice donut glaze which was good. My girlfriend/fiance tried a filled donut which was quite filling. Glam Dolls serve Intelligentsia brand coffee which I got hooked on when I went to Chicago. However, the decor is markedly different. The space is great for hanging out and maybe getting some work done. I think donuts are great for fueling creative minds. Neat little neighborhood spot on eat street. We got three unique donuts here. The Misfit (orange, ginger, and cinnamon) was a glazed donut on steroids. Really amazing. The lemon cream cheese donut (Pucker Up?) was fluffy and pillowey. Heavenly, like a delicious cake. The Chart Topper (peanut butter & sriracha) was interesting but tasted a little weird. I love donuts. I especially love ridiculous donuts. When I was in St. Paul for work, that pretty much made a visit to Glam Doll a requirement. I love the pinup vibe here, and their insane varieties - it feels like you're in some kind of madcap, rockabilly donut shop that never left the late 1940's. Walking in, the first thing you see is the massive case of freshly made donuts, complete with little cards giving the name and flavors. When I went in, pride of place was being given to one of their specials, a Simpsons themed tower of craziness that included a "cup" of bacon, a filled donut with beer flavored cream, more bacon, donut holes, chocolate, and a cherry on top. Of course I got one. I was greeted by the women behind the counter as I came in, and they were happy to answer my questions as I picked out a half dozen to take home with me in addition to the tower and hot chocolate I ate there - and impressively, they survived the flight back to Ohio! The only caution I'll offer is that the donuts do get expensive - at $2-3 each, it's easy to ring up a good sized bill, but a lot of the more expensive ones are large enough that you can easily share them. The do also offer discounts for buying in larger amounts - at $13 for 1/2 dozen or $25 for a dozen, it seems expensive, but you are getting a bit of a break, particularly if you're picking out some of the high dollar filled or specialty offerings. Would I go here every day? No, probably not, because of the cost, but I'd certainly pick some up now and then for a special treat. read more

I'm the boring person who goes to Glam Doll and only gets their raised donuts with sprinkles. They have quite the selection, from beer cheese to peanut butter and sriracha, but we got a huge box of them at work one day (my first GD experience) and I found most of the quirky types to be long on originality but short on flavor and texture. I'm also one of those weird people who just isn't into filled donuts. I know, I know. Now I just stick to the classics, and they actually do those quite well. Perfect place to grab dessert after a bite and lots of wine at Gyst, my new fave spot in the neighborhood. Lots of parking next door in the old Black Forest parking lot. My only complaint is how cranky the people behind the counter. If pulling multiple donuts out of a case for a customer annoys you to the point where you roll your eyes, why work at a donut shop? Maybe they should fill some of the donuts with enthusiasm and warmth and give them to the staff on the house. read more

Oh decadence! OH SWEET SIN! Love the rockabilly pin up theme. Love the cute baristas who are friendly, fun and helpful. Love the little pink boxes they send your orders home in. Love the bling so much I had to get a beautiful hand wrought mug. Donuts are not something I can eat very often but maybe once a year so worth it if you get them here? Definitely home to some of my favorite raised donuts in Minneapolis. The Starlet was great - a thick coating of vanilla icing and perfect amount of Valentine's Day inspired sprinkles! We also tried the Calendar Girl, which a hefty coating of chocolate icing and a tasty dollop of salted caramel, my tastebuds were crying that that was the donut we chose to share. Alright, so when Glam Doll Donuts first opened I was like "meh, whatever" - because donuts,cupcakes, and sweets in general are not all that exciting to me. I am all about savory so basically give me a salt lick over a sugar cube (ew, not really). However, I loved the general aesthetic/pin-up vibe and of course I was pumped when I heard about the "Chart Topper" (Sriracha / Peanut Butter) donuts because I love both Sriracha AND peanut butter. Once they started pimping out VEGAN donuts? Yeah, I had to try it. The first time I ate a Glam Doll confection, it was without setting foot in the store. My man's old roommate brought home a box of donuts one weekend and hooked me up with a Chart Topper, vegan style. It was ok, though a bit dry and lackluster. It wasn't super sweet, but not savory either. I think they could do more with this flavor combination to either make it a bit of a thai savory donut OR make it sweeter but let the Sriracha add a unique burning twist. Unfortunately, the donut did neither of those things and I ended up only having a few bites (because I didn't want to waste the calories). The second time I tried Glam Doll, it was again without setting foot in the store. My mother had gone over her birthday weekend, the one time of year she allows herself to eat donuts, and picked up a vegan "Varga Girl" (almond cream-filled, topped with chocolate & shaved almonds) for me. She stuck it in the freezer until I saw her a couple of days later, and I was too impatient to let it thaw slowly so I stuck it in the microwave for ~30-60 seconds. Oh. My. God. This was the most delicious donut my mouth has ever tasted. Granted, the microwave made the almond cream nice and warm, the chocolate was a bit melty, and the dough was soft and pleasant. This was a thousand times better than my first experience and left me wanting more. Recently, my friend was in town from Washington State and we decided to make a post-brunch trip (because we wanted to stuff ourselves silly on her last day in town?) to Glam Doll. Wanting to stick with a bismark while still trying something new, I ordered the "Femme Fatale" which promised fresh raspberry curd filling, vanilla icing, and had a cute little red heart-shaped sprinkle in the middle. Since I was actually at the store this time, I also ordered a cup of their Intelligentsia drip-coffee out of Chicago...my mom had raved about it so I figured it was worth trying. I brought my coffee and donut to a little table where my friends and I embarked on brunch dessert. They had some cool art for sale on the wall (and some weird ones...actually, there is very little LESS appetizing than a cockroach painting when you're trying to eat, but I digress) and the vibe was more or less what I expected. The donut, on the other hand, reminded me of the first time...dry and not worth the calories. The icing was so hard that it flaked off in huge chunks every time I even lifted the donut to my mouth. When I actually DID manage to eat some of the icing, it was so sweet that I had to down my coffee. The filling was really good but there wasn't much of it. I want to go back there because I love supporting local businesses who are committed to sustainable practices AND develop unique (and vegan!) menu items, but I really hope there are more hits than misses in the future. Whenever I head to a restaurant on Eat Street I never get dessert. How could I want to when Glam Doll is just down the street! No matter where I am, I always have to make a stop and get one or two donuts and a cup of coffee. It just completes the night. My favorites are the Outlaw, Femme Fatale, Dark Angel, and Night Moves. Chart Topper is a peanut butter and sirracha donut which sounds kind of gross if you ask me, but it's anything but. Really awesome combination of flavors. The Calendar Girl is a salted caramel and chocolate donut which I thought was the better off the two. When we came to this shop around 1pm, they were sold out of most of the donuts we would have wanted to try - super bummer. (But, probably our fault?) Out of what was available, my group really loved the vegan vanilla donut and found the spicy bacon/peanut butter donut interesting. This place had a line out the door! You could smell the delicious donut aroma! Fresh donuts right off the rack! The downside is the chocolate glaze has a slight bitter cocoa taste and it's gritty. The sugar glaze on these donuts are extremely sweet. I recommend trying the passion fruit donut. Glam Doll got me to do something I never do--eat donuts. I was in there for a vintage sale and walked to the front to check out the donuts. One look and I knew I had to break my golden rule. So we tried three different varieties of donuts. They were amazing. Moist, tasty... the one I had that was covered in chocolate with a salty caramel center was probably the best. My husband was similarly impressed, though he had a hard time paying $2.50-$3.00 a donut. I also really enjoyed the decor. Great colors, really cool sputnik chandelier and mid century furniture, cute staff. I could see myself hanging out in there...if I ate donuts. Though since they are open late, maybe I can consider it dessert. That is a plus. These donuts are the real deal! I was visiting a friend in Minneapolis and I knew I wanted to stop here because I read that these were the best donuts in the city. Now, I didn't try any other donut places but I didn't feel like I needed to. Together we got 6 donuts so that I could try them all. The line wasn't so bad, the employees were helpful, and the donuts were unique/creative while still being appetizing and delicious! My favorite was the peanut butter sriracha (Chart Topper) and the Apple fritter (Pinup Girl). I come from Portland, OR. So when I walked in I was expecting something similar to Voodoo Donuts, all kitschy-fun-tourist-ness and no flavor, but I was happily surprised. I hugely appreciate the effort Glam Doll went to in developing vegan donuts, and there must have been much pent-up demand as I am only batting .200 when it comes to actually getting vegan donuts when I'm craving them. They often sell out early in the day, and many times someone will come in and wipe out the entire supply. I love the outlaw donut and the varga girl donut. On my most recent trip, I got the varga girl which is a delicious raised donut with almond-cream filling, and topped with chocolate frosting. The lovely women working were fantastic and friendly. My friend and I chose to sit near the front of the store because the back area is pretty loud from the store's music system. I ended up getting half a dozen (so many options for a non-vegan joint) with some help from the staff. Both the raised and cake donuts were ON POINT! Went this afternoon to pick up some donuts to go. Got there at 11 and there was still a good amount of variety left. I picked up 4 (cosmopolitan girl, dark angel, bombshell, and calendar girl). Their donuts range from $1 to $3 a piece and are SO worth it. I'm not normally a fan of cake donuts because of how dry they normally are. That's not the case here though. Each donut is soft and air like and has a wonderful combination of delicious flavors. The line only took about 10 minutes to get all the way through and the staff was very friendly. The space is nice but very popular so it gets a little noisy. Great place to grab some breakfast or brunch but I wouldn't recommend it for studying or working especially on the weekends. read more

Visited this morning, in from Illinois on a coffee tour. I have a soft spot for creative and fun donut shops so I made a point to go here. I purchase half a dozen for $14ish, seems reasonable for a specialty item (I'm also the $25 dollar a pound coffee consumer, not rolling in money but I appreciate a great product and a thoughtful small business.) Great fun vibe with some incredible midcentury furniture, a fun old and working photo booth we took advantage of, clean bathrooms, and good customer service. I only wish the vegan donuts would have been out before we came in (they were displayed by the time we left) as I would have loved to try a vegan bacon option. Alas, next time I'm in town! They serve Intelligentisa, a respectable Chicago roaster. We didn't have coffee at Glam Doll so I can't comment on their barista skills. All in all, a great, fun place! Will be back. read more
