Bakery AND Ice cream!! Sunday afternoon, we stumbled upon this treasure! Lila helped us with both information and friendliness! Nice baked goods (numm!), ice cream, beverages, nice seating inside, and a few benches outside. Will go again!

Such fun donuts and allergy friendly. Plenty of options for the people in your life-- personally or professionally

The scale says 2-stars is "Meh. I've experienced better" and I can think of no better description of Thirsty Whale. This is a generic bakery that adds its unique fun by putting candy on pedestrian donuts and serving completely forgettable baked goods. This is a fun twist on Wuollet, which is the kind of bakery that your grandparents (or even great-grandparents for you Alphas) thought was fantastic back in the midcentury. Wuollet is bland and forgettable. This is bland and forgettable with, quite literally, candy on top. There's only so much you can do with a mediocre foundation. These are instagrammable baked items that aren't particularly good. Wayzata has had better: Bellecour (RIP) was fantastic. The city has many other great options with Diane's Place, Patisserie 46, Rustica, Black Walnut, Marc Heu, etc. The space is a quick adaptation of a Penny's location that closed because the owners of the chain just stopped caring (they sold the other 2 locations to Daniel del Prado's restaurant group to become what is now Cafe Ceres, this one just was a slow crash). The space was never a great design, it was a complete misfire compared to the other 2 locations (the claustrophobic space originally had plywood walls before they made it feel more open). Thirsty Whale has done a reasonable job brightening it up and adapting it into a pleasant area. The staff was earnest but not very well trained at how to operate efficiently, I would say it's about where I would expect. They need to be better about cleaning the tables up (and the patrons need to be better about bussing their own messes). I simply can't recommend this place.

It doesn't have a huge deli menu, but it had a bunch of sandwiches on the menu that looked pretty good. You can zoom in on my photo to see the menu. We came for breakfast and there was a nice donut case as well as other breakfast options. We came late so the donut case was pretty picked over which is to be expected. We had a cream filled bismark, a sausage roll, and an Asian coffee. The bismark was the best I have had in a long time. They fill it with your choice of fillings right when you order so it isn't soggy. The dough part of the donut was fresh and light and somehow tastier than anywhere I have been. The custard was pretty standard custard, but also tasted lighter and fresher than I have had before. The sausage roll was basically a hot dog type sausage wrapped in a croissant type dough. There was also an option of cheese and jalapeño. It was good. The Asian coffee was good, as you might guess it was pretty much what other places call Vietnamese coffee. It is in a strip mall so there is strip mall parking. There is a ramp and the store is pretty handicapped accessible. The staff were fast, efficient, and friendly. There was a good amount of seating inside, and a few tables outside.

I don't eat a lot of sweets but surprisingly these aren't super sweet anyway. There wasn't a lot of people when I arrived but then again it is -22 degrees outside. I will definitely return here for my sweet tooth fix while I'm in town.

We expected it to be packed, but we were seated right away. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded or noisy, which made it easy to relax, enjoy our meal, and actually have a conversation. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and professional. I wish I had gotten her name before we left because she provided great service throughout our visit. I started with the iced lavender oat milk latte, and it was delicious. We also shared the famous monkey bread, and it definitely lives up to all the hype I've seen online! We ordered it with both the cream cheese and caramel, and it was amazing. The monkey bread was incredibly soft, fresh, and the portion was huge. I've had monkey bread at other local coffee shops before, but the texture here is on a completely different level. For breakfast, I ordered the French toast, and it was made well. I appreciated that it wasn't overloaded with whipped cream. My husband liked the crispy bacon and his chocolate chip pancakes he said they were rich and fluffy. We'll definitely be back. Everything from the food and atmosphere to the service exceeded our expectations. This place is simply too good not to return!

So I found Benedict's online and thought it looked like a good choice. The restaurant itself is really bright open and airy. Lots of natural light and high wood beams. The restaurant employs an online wait list, which I love. So you join the wait list online, it tells you how long your wait is and the you can plan your arrival to minimize your wait. I was surprised that on a Saturday, we walked right in and were seated... it wasn't all that crowded (that said, there was a big No Kings rally that day so people might have been busy). At any rate, we were greeted and seated immediately at a nice table. I enjoyed the many options on the menu and also loved that you could order a single specialty pancake if you wanted one. I ordered the classic benedict. My husband got the tot hash. We ordered a strawberry nutella pancake to share. The pancake was good, though honestly the nutella strawberry topping was a bit meh. My husband said his tot hash was not what he expected (they seem to make their own tots and then deep fry them) but he did like it. My benedict was decent, but there was way too much ham and not enough hollandaise. I hate when people are stingy with the hollandaise. Coffee was good and strong. My peach mimosa was fine but honestly pretty small -- I'd be surprised if it was 8 oz. Service was OK. Nothing super major to complain about, but my mimosa wasn't delivered until I was almost through my first cup of coffee. The waitress clearly just forgot about it. She basically said so and apologized. I noted that many tables had lovely little bottles of water for when you wanted to refill your glass, but we did not receive one. It also bothered me a bit that there was a lot of "stuff" on the floor. Trash, bits of food, etc. I know that things get really busy at brunch spots on the weekends. But someone really needed to go around with a broom or a vacuum. It's just not what I expect from a dining establishment where I'm going to drop $80 on breakfast for two.

The most uncomfortable thing is finding a place to park. If you can't find a spot in the lot, tracking down a street spot that isn't only 1 hour can be a challenge or a bit of a walk. We started with cocktails and Bread is Life appetizer (5/5). Bread is indeed life. We needed two baguettes to eat the three butters/sauces. The whipped ricotta and honey was my favorite, but the chimichurri was a close second. For entrees we split the Beet and Watermelon King Salmon Salad (3/5), A Fat Burger (5/5), Chilled Lobster Roll (4/5), and the Spicy Lobster Mac and Cheese (5/5). The salad was good, but the salmon didn't have enough seasoning for me. It's also more of a traditional watermelon salad vs lettuce salad. The lobster roll was good, but of course mostly bread. It was a hardy sandwich and filled more than other restaurants. The burger was in fact fat, cheesy and juicy. The sandwiches come with hand cut fries (5/5) and an aioli. While the Mac and cheese says it's spicy, it's more of a Minnesota spice. It's a shareable portion, but no more than 3 people if they have other food. For dessert we ordered the Mud Moon Pie (4/5). When they say it's served with a knife they mean it. The portion size is huge! Like 6-12 people could eat on it. We ended up sharing with the table next to us. We were warned it was shareable, but I wish there would have been a smaller portion option to select. We felt so wasteful not being able to eat even half of it. We loved our server. We never felt rushed, our water glasses were never empty and she split the bill with our individual dishes and then split the shared items (I love when they do this vs giving us one bill). While the prices are a little high, the portion sizes and quality of food make it worth it.
