The donuts are amazing quality, by far our favorite in the area. The donuts themselves are 5 stars. The reason the shop doesn't get 5 stars is because the hours posted are never correct. Signage reads "Delicious Donuts" Donuts are just like the neighborhood donut shops we all grew up with. Glazed, sprinkles, cake, old fashion, and filled. None of this glamorous, overpriced too much crap on the top of a baked donut and pastry store stuff. We've been looking for a good donut shop since we moved up from Texas and now have one. I had exactly one half of a donut here but I am giving this little shop five stars based on our experience there. After breakfast at the neighboring Crystal Cafe we got in the car and saw in front of us red lettering that just said Donuts. We have a hard time resisting sugar so decided to take a look. This shop is tiny. Just a couple of tables, one was occupied. We walked in and a voice called from the back, letting us know he'd be right with us. The man working there greeted us and we chose one donut, surely not an exciting order. He bagged our sugar-dusted donut with a smile and then my boyfriend and I both realized neither of us had any cash. We said we were sorry and planned to leave donut-less, but the man said, "It's ok." At first I thought he meant it was ok we'd ordered and then had to give up our dessert, but he meant he was giving us the donut for free. We declined but he insisted, so we took our donut with us and shared it about ten minutes later while waiting for a ridiculously long train (seriously, it was a good thing we had that donut so we didn't starve to death). The donut: good. The gesture: awesome. We are planning to return next weekend to buy at least a dozen donuts as thanks. You should go buy a couple dozen, too. And bring cash! read more

We lived in the neighborhood for pretty close to a year and a half before we actually got to sample the donuts from this little shop. As you might have noticed from other reviews, we are not exactly morning people, and this place is one of those "we sell them till they're gone" type deals. We never get over there in time before they've closed for the day. But one weekend my husband was up unusually early so he went over and brought home an assortment of donuts. Both the yeast and cake donuts were equally good to me, fresh and airy while having the right consistency. I am a freak for sprinkle donuts and was delighted that both the cake and yeast versions came absolutely crusted with sprinkles. In my opinion this is the only way to properly do a sprinkle donut, and it was much appreciated. The frosting was rich, thick and creamy, just the way you'd want it to be. In all, I'm sure we'll be back if we can ever catch them when they are open. I sure wish they were open Sundays, too. Maybe a better day to be closed would be Mondays? At any rate, I was at Dunkin Donuts up in New Hope one Sunday and the guys behind me in line and I had a lovely chat about how we were only there because this place was closed. Best pastries - we drive miles to come here!

OK, based on my last few reviews it's clear that I have very different taste in donuts than others do. I have been to two of the best reviewed places and they have not done a thing for me. Raised glazed was a bit chewy. The bismark I got, I couldn't even get to the filling because the chocolate on it was nasty. I've had better custard filled bismarks at Cub. The cake with the sprinkles was ok. There were tons of sprinkles, but hardly any icing at all. I've got my favorite cake donut and my favorite raised glazed in the area. I'm giving up on any further donut joint and sticking with those that are tried and true. read more

Awesome! One word to explain this shop! The donuts are nothing crazy or out there like you would get at Yo Yo or Glamdoll donuts. They stick with simple straight to the point donuts. Cakes, long johns, sprinkled etc. They are absolutely delicious donuts. I got a sprinkled long John and and Coconut long john and they were absolutely made to perfection with perfect texture and just the right amount of sweetness. I will be a regular here when I do purchase donuts. Also the service was awesome. I was greeted by an older gentleman and he was fantastic and very nice. It's not too often anymore that you see an old-fashioned donut shop. There has been a gourmet cupcake craze lately, but this place has been around for years. Be warned: the shop is located in a tiny trip mall of Douglas Dr. and the sign only says "donuts". Delicious is the shop next to it, so it looks like the sign says "delicious donuts" but it doesn't. The shop only has 2-3 small tables inside, so I would get your donuts to go whenever possible. The hours are pretty limited, closed by early afternoons and not open on Sundays. My family has been going there for years, and love it. The chocolate glaze they use is just divine, and all the donut varieties I've tried have been delicious. I decided to throw all health consciousness to the wind today and seek out a good old fashioned donut - or two. Boston creme-filled, raspberry jelly, maybe a plain cake donut. A quick google search showed the Old Fashioned Donut Shoppe not too far from my house. The second I walked in, I should have turned around and walked out. From the door, you could see right into the kitchen where the terracotta tile floor was covered with flour and batter. Given that it was 8 AM on a Saturday morning, I thought I'd be forgiving as they were probably in the thick of banging out the baked goods. But a glance of the small eating area made me change my mind quickly. There was literally DIRT every where - and very visible as the place is white, with white tables and white chairs. Because leaving would have been uncomfortable as I was the only customer in there (and the store keeper was waiting for my order) I tried to focus my attention on the glossy frosted goodness behind the counter. I chose a chocolate iced, custard-filled bismarck and sat down at a table. I grabbed the side of the chair to pull myself closer the table only to find my fingers stuck in god-knows-what on the chair. Because I have no spine, I ate my donut at the table - which wasn't bad but nothing special - and got the hell out of there. I have never seen an eatery so filthy. And to compound my disgust, I discovered that Byerly's has the same donut selection - for the same price - sans the yuck factor - right down the road. read more

These guys rock! So I found myself in need of a very large quantity (read a butt load) of donuts at 7am. I was facing the challenge of cleaning out like 6 holiday gas stations aroung the city...not fun way to start the day. I found The Old Fashion Donut Shop via google, they were the only place open at 5am - how cool it's that? I called and told them about my predicament. They didn't even hesitate....
