Cute little corner cafe. Quite a few of foot traffic during the brunch hours. Overall, everyone mind their business and worked on their laptop.

This morning I needed to continue nursing my holiday hangover with some food and wakey juice, so I decided to visit RG to change-up my coffee house routine. South(west) Siiideeee.... Nothing says "neighborhood joint" like baristas calling folks by their first name, the elderly chatting about old times, and moms playing board games with their kids. Royal Grounds definitely has an awesome and friendly buzz. The staff there welcomed me with a smile and patiently answered all of my questions I had about their goods. I decided to recover with a French press and Glorious Morning Muffin, which only came out to a little over $5. My dark brown caffeine elixir tasted deliciously strong and not too acidic. I also had my fill since the French press produces about two and half cups. As for the muffin, I think this may be one of the best muffins I've had in recent memory. The Glorious Morning has raisins and carrots that make it slightly sweet and pulpy, respectively. Unlike most muffins at cafes, this one tasted steamy fresh and pillowy soft. Essentially, it's a fibrous marshmallow. (Sounds weird, but that's the best way I can explain it.) No wonder so many parents with their children were there. I'm sure the muffin is a creative way for children to eat carrots. Aside from the coffee and food, Royal Grounds has sturdy tables (didn't need a newspaper to stabilize any of the legs), comfy chairs, and music that didn't make my ears bleed. (I frequently perform at hip-hop shows, and I can't even stand the noise level at some cafes.) I also love the fact that they support local businesses by selling their goods. I enjoyed perusing through the funny selection of holiday cards and small painted canvases. Bravo, RG! My only suggestions are that Royal Grounds could provide more outlets (for us mobile workers) and make better use of the empty white spaces on the walls (since the shop can come off as a bit stale). However, I'm really just being nit-picky. Overall, Royal Grounds' coffee is on par with many of the other stellar coffeehouses in the Twin Cities. Although, I think their food is what makes them special. Seriously, I would like to see other joints bake their own goods daily. I can't wait to return to buy some Valentine's Day cards, another cup of coffee, and of course, a Glorious Morning Muffin. If you're in the area, check out Royal Grounds.

Turtle Latte, Chocolate Croissant, Pumpkin Bread, and Mexican Mocha. Wonderful!

I loved my experience at Royal Grounds! I've been wanting to check it out and finally did this week. I like the relaxed neighborhood coffee shop feel. It was cozy and modern without the "I'm not nearly hipster enough to be here" vibe. The baristas were friendly and the Mexican Mocha I ordered was delicious. My friend and I also got some baked goods, which were equally tasty. I will definitely be visiting again!

Getting better and better. When I moved to the hood I was warned to stay away. I didn't and keep coming back. Great soups from Zander and bagel wiches made from St. Paul Bagelry bagels. Fuck yeah! They also make their own decaf chai, which if you are lactard like my wife, you can get with soy milk. So when the crowds are too big and there are too many kids at P46, skip north a few blocks and try Royal Grounds.

Oh my goodness!! Finally found my coffee shop home. I love everything about this place; the decor, the use of natural ingredients, and baristas who know how make coffee drinks for people who don't really like coffee but want to! Definitely will become a regular

Wonderfully quaint atmosphere, great coffee, and super nice people. Adequate seating and courteous patronage make for a relaxing place to sit, sip, and visit.

Great little neighborhood style coffee shop. The workers are friendly, both towards the customers and to each other, which signifies that it is a decent plaxe to work. One noteworthy thing was that there is a small sign near the register explaining how tips and gratuity is not accepted/necessary since the workers are paid a wage above the standard to take that into account. There is a mix of table seating areas and an area towards the back with a fireplace and sofas for a more comfortable seating situations. Music plays overhead that is not too loud and is conducive to both studying, conversing and whatever else one may do at a coffee shop. The beverage selections at this place contains all your classic standard coffees as well as loose leaf teas. There are a few pastries on hand. I tried the berry crumb cake which was delicious. All in all a nice place to spend an afternoon at a coffee shop. The only contrivance that I could think of was that I left smelling like a coffee shop.

This is a great neighborhood coffee shop with ample street parking... need I say more? I still haven't adjusted to living in the city and dealing with the stress of either finding a parking spot or paying way too much, so I was glad that I didn't have to worry about any of this there. Anyway, they are open until 9pm during the week which is nice since most coffee shops seem to close sooooo early. It wasn't too crowded in the evening, but still cozy! There was a group meeting in the back where all of the comfy chairs are but the other tables aren't bad either. Sure, I'll take the window seat anyday! I love the policy that they pay their staff more to make up for not accepting tips. Even at that, prices are more than reasonable. They have almond, soy, and even coconut milk substitutes if I remember correctly. I ordered a hot chocolate and was asked if I want to make it a Mexican hot chocolate with cinnamon or peppermint...went with the mint and wow! Tasty. Plus I could still choose a small, medium, or large even in a ceramic mug. I wish that this coffee shop and most others would automatically serve drinks in these mugs unless otherwise specified rather than the other way around. *sigh* My friend had a root beer float which at first we were both like "ok why are they putting ice in it?" only to find out that they blend the ingredients together and serve it with ice. It wasn't obnoxiously sweet (yay!), glad I got to try a few sips! Never even knew that they had this as an option but apparently it's posted on the menu...oops. I forgot to say that the barista was super sweet and chatty, love the warmness and positive aura of this place. Around 8:30ish they started to clean up and vacuum, mop floors, etc. I felt a little awkward still being there at that point and felt like the rudest person ever because my friend and I were still chatting at 8:50 (we had a lot of catching up to do). I apologized (but I mean, it is posted that they close at 9 so it shouldn't have been that weird)... which they responded that of course it wasn't a big deal. Little awkward story there but basically, this is a great place that I would strongly recommend paying a little visit to for a coffee, bakery item (so many delicious looking options), and hey, why not play one of the board games!

I know firsthand that coffee is king in Panama, so I figured anything inspired by their incredible coffee culture had to be worth trying. I visited Curioso on an early Sunday morning and immediately found it special. Not just for its coffee, but for the ambiance, service, and overall vibe. Curioso is a large, welcoming space that's part coffee bar, part brewery. I was immediately impressed by the variety of entertainment for all ages: arcade games, pool tables, dart boards, a skee-ball machine, board games, and even claw machines. Seating options are abundant, from cozy couches to tables and high-tops. There's a toddler play area and a library filled with books for all ages. The space feels family-friendly and is warm, welcoming community gathering space for all. I noticed flyers for free community events Curioso hosts, like Sunday Morning Yoga and Tuesday Trivia nights. The service was equally warm! The barista, although managing a busy Sunday morning solo, took her time to explain coffee options, highlight weekly specials with her own recommendations, and describe the pastries in partnership with Fruit & Grain and Bagels from St. Paul Bagelry. Oat milk is the standard for all their drinks! (Which I loved) We tried two speciality lattes: the "Butter Luck Next Year" (iced) and the "Blue Ribbon Peach Pie" (hot). Both were exceptional! Strong, robust, and delicious. Alongside, we also enjoyed an "Everything" handpie and a "Blueberry Lemon Curd" pop tart. Both pastries were out of this world delicious! I loooooved this pairing. I'm a sucker for savory, so the "Everything" handpie reigned supreme for me. Although I don't have a fur-baby (yet), I would like to include that Curioso is fur-friendly. I ordered one of their seasonal specials--the banana cream pie latte. It was very good. The ambiance was OK. Smaller seating area and located in a strip mall. Although my drink was good it wasn't necessarily something to write home about. I might come here again if in the area and in need of a coffee, but probably not a place I will necessarily seek out.

Minimal decor, unfinished flooring, and no truly cozy seating made it feel less like a place you'd want to settle into for a while. The thick cut bacon had really been cooked down and the layers just went together so well. The bun was buttered and a little flaky which helped it all. The cinnamon roll was unreal. It had such a nice flaky texture that was still soft and chewy. Cinnamon rolls often rely too heavy on the icing but on this cinnamon roll it was the perfect ratio.
