My son came here for 4 private lessons. Coach Greg was very kind and patient. I loved this pool. The locker rooms could use a bit more work, it's very dark and then doesn't feel very clean or bright. Parking is horrendous but staff was great. It was more affordable to do private lessons here than when we did group swim lessons at the rose bowl. But then there was more parking. read more

My husband visited this pool due to his normal pool location being closed this week. He said the pool was fantastic and he really liked it, up until he noticed that the showering area allowed male parents to escort their young children which included young girls to walk through this area while grown men were showering and unclothed. When the question was brought to the attention of the staff, it was quickly noted that this is a usual occurrence and an authorized procedure. It was pointed out that there is a small sign that asks the men not to fully uncloth while showering, but it's still ok in the dressing room where the children are coming through with their parents. I've lived in the Eagle Rock area for quite some time now and didn't realize this gem of a pool was only several blocks away from me. I've been here twice now and will continue to do since the gym I used to go to shutdown so there goes my swimming laps as well. There is a $4 fee to get it which I am assuming to help maintain and help paying its employees, I do like that you have to pay a certain amount as it kind of assures maintenance of the facility. There are several lanes in the pool to do laps and an open section with the lane divider bouys on both ends, you could also do your lap there but be cautioned that there might be children wading around or other people waiting for an open lane. I do like this pool and most definitely my pool to go to now moving forward. read more

A humble public pool, with outstanding utilitarian value for all, particularly during the insufferable months-long roasting heat of Los Angeles (caused by the barbaric removal of indigenous oaks which would otherwise have mitigated regional micro-climate with shade and moisture generation, in the service of "yt" triumphalist "progress"). This pool is well run, although its changing rooms are more spartan than a Soviet gulag, but ssshhh, such are the secrets of this feudal U.S. capitalism we suffer through. At least the floors are clean and hosed down daily. There is also sufficient space and ceiling height to feel less threatened by airborne COVID (of varieties previous to the omnipotent omicron). Cubicle style dividers with a single hook are offered for the modest but you don't have the privilege of a privacy door or curtain (which is reserved presumably for the well-heeled who pay to patronize more exclusive "private" clubs). The water quality in the pool is monitored routinely, and despite the summer heat and large usage I didn't get sick. That's an endorsement. The set up of lanes for lap swimming is a boon to adults who don't want to dodge screaming little wrigglers. There seems to be such a kind ethic here in terms of lane sharing. A notable difference from other pools (on the west side and for example, Culver City) where there is a contingent of people trying to keep up their triathlon pace among public swimmers. Here it is accepted that many are here for meditative non-strenous exercise. The requirement for vaccine proof does make me feel a bit safer. In general the ethic of pool patrons here is to abide by the rules which after all promote wellbeing for all. I've not encountered obnoxious acting out and shrill behavior that is characteristic of either desperate people hemmed in on all sides by a repressive "yt"-dominant system that offers them no margin of dignity, or dysfunctional upbringing. Entry fees are modest and especially subsidized for those over 50 years of age. Hours are pretty epic, with morning, noon and evening slots. read more

Ok. It's LA... why aren't all pools open year-round?! I love that this one is. I also love the price. Only $3.50/swim for an adult. Back in the Bay, it's about $7, so this is a steal. Also you can buy a 30-swim pass for $87.50. The pass, according to the people who work here, never expires. There are roughly 9 lanes open for lap swimmers and 2 bigger areas (3 lanes worth of space per area) for rec swimmers. I came on a Sunday at opening (1pm) and there was a short line already forming at the gates. Parking was a bit of a struggle since there was a baseball game in the neighboring baseball field. The lot next to the pool was full and so were the surrounding streets. The pool's temp was cool. Not cold and definitely not warm. As a lap swimmer, it was a great temp. There are pull buoys and kickboards available for the lap swimmers. There are also pool chairs for general lounging. Great place to get a workout and tan. I love this pool! I have never been to a public pool in my entire adult life and just discovered this new world. GP pool is extremely clean. They def scrub down. Always 3-4 lifeguards. There isn't any shade or chairs but I hope you realize when u pay 4 bucks u aren't at a country club. It's not the easiest to get a lane but if you are patient someone will eventually leave within 15-20 usually. The shallow end is always an option for laps too. The scenery is pretty up against the hill. And again, it's CLEAN. Also, I think this is where Europeans come sunbathe. I always see these attractive groups of 2-3, usually in thongs. More power to them. I feel super comfortable going by myself and I actually might delete this review because I'm scared of it getting too crowded. Ha! read more

How I have never reviewed this place as the reigning duke is beyond me. I love so much about this place. I used to go to the Echo Park aquatic center which is like the 405 at rush hour. This place is not as busy, has convenient parking lot, and nice employees. Even though it's outdoors it is heated which makes it bearable in the winter months. I love this pool! It's so cheap (4 bucks to get in) and it's no frills but clean, really nice staff, and a cool little community there. It's so weird that it seems to be quite hard to find a decent pool in Los Angeles - but this is one!! Outdoor. Year round. Heated to a good temperature all year round (I think like 80?).... A bunch of reviews mention some kind of deal where it's a little cheaper if you have a library card - that is not a thing anymore. But it's so cheap anyway so whatevs! If you have a toddler under 7 you should check out their daily youth pass. It is only $10 from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and it not only includes your child's entry but also yours! I bought it recently, but wish I knew about it earlier in the summer. I'll be doing it again next year! Pool is good for a city pool (but average for a pool in general), and you can't beat the price. As I lay, sun-bathing, on the side of this pool, it occurred me to that my opinion about Glassell Park Pool has changed since my initial introduction. It's not the public pool aspect however (I've always been partial to LA's Park and Rec), but rather, I've come to appreciate its outdoor setting that is missing from my old Echo Park haunt. http://bit.ly/ptczXA You can do your laps here in this super-chill, easy-to-find parking Rec Center, AND work on your tan. It's nice to lay about, with Mount Washington in the backdrop, and blue sky overhead. Highly useful particularly when we've just experienced summer heat in the triple digits, and you're not feeling like driving out to the beach! Of course, I have yet to make it into winter with Glassell Park Pool, but something tells me I'll most likely bite the bullet and come here to practice laps in January...we live in LA, after all, where it doesn't get *that* c-c-cold! read more

Went here for the first time this morning, will try to update if I go more often. It's $3.50 per entry and cash-only, they won't break a twenty, like one of the other reviewers said. Also you have to have exact change. Still the best price I've seen for pools in this area though. Lane setup was weird. Whereas most pools will set up lanes so that you end each lap at the shallow end, these lanes are set up so that the entire lap is at one depth. So if you get stuck in the middle lane where the water is 9 feet deep, you won't be able to stop at each lap to drink water or adjust your gear or anything, since you have to hang off the wall basically. That was weird for me so I switched to a shallow lane. Swim team takes up almost half of the pool (the lanes farther away from the locker rooms) but the morning I went, there weren't many members so they let me share a lane there. Kickboards and pull buoys are provided. Water is heated but I've yet to experience how this pool feels during winter. There are no lockers but most people take their stuff out onto the pool deck. One giant shower spigot so if you go when it's crowded and you're not comfortable with that setting, it's a bit weird. There are little changing stalls with curtains, but they're quite short so if you're tall, you can see over them. Haven't checked out the toilets yet. Did not see any power outlets in case you want to dry your hair but didn't really look closely. Plenty of parking though! read more

I've been swimming here for years, but had no intention of writing a review until I read the idiotic reviews specificially by Baked P., who must, in fact, be Baked. This is ideal for me. The hours are convenient. The other lap swimmers are friendly, and so is the staff. The pool is always clean, and well monitored by lifeguards. I can usually get a lane for myself. I swim for an hour, then retrieve my stuff in the locker room, shower, and I'm home in five minutes. The pass cards are a real bargain, and you don't need to carry cash in your swim bag. Even when I get a little lazy, and stay away for a while, it's comforting to know that when I get my butt in gear, the Glassell Pool will be waiting. read more

Hi. This pool is awesome and I'm so happy that they've been able to stay open year round. But yesterday I had a disturbing experience that I would like to share. The current scenario is this: There's 3 lanes for adult swim in the evening. There are about 25+ adults who show up after work and then there's no system to handle the volume of swimmers. In the rest of the very large pool, there's swim team, and kids. And it's great to see a community in the pool at the end of a day, but. . . Some of the lap swimmers are turbo swimmers who don't look up from their workout, so you can't suggest circle swim very easily. It's kinda intimidating. Lanes divided into Fast, Medium, Slow (some other pools do it)-- would help. Lifeguards at other pools will sometimes help to introduce you into an appropriate swim lane, which would be helpful here, too. As it stands, you have 6 people taking up three lanes, and then a motley passel of people fending for themselves in the open area on one side of the pool. Yesterday, both me and this seventy-year old lady were looking for a lane to swim in and both of us were having a hard time. She found an empty lane to swim in and invited me to share it, but we were kicked out as swim team kids entered the lane. I eventually asked a young lifeguard to help me, but I would have liked to have seen someone try to help us out sooner. In terms of liability -- I would hate for this pool to get closed because someone gets kicked in the head trying to swim laps in the shallow area of the pool. There were about 12 people trying to swim in straight lines on the open end of the pool and it was a mess. People are not so good navigating in normal traffic, let alone in water. ;) Love this pool! 2 stars of hope! 3 more stars to come! read more

For $2 or $2.50, This is a very good pool. If you ignore the locker room this place is great. But part of the whole deal is to get a nice shower after swim and clean changing area. Pool - great, clean pool. one 50m pool subdivided to several 25y lanes for lap swimmers. The two shallow ends for recreational swimmers. Parking - free, easy to find space and some shaded. "Locker room" - VERY BAD. Cement floor (no tiles), no mirror (just a pice of polished aluminum sheet). You can leave your bag with an attendant who will issue you a safety pin with number. Crowd - there are many very good and fast swimmers here. They tend to be quite intimidating. read more

Adding my voice: let's hope the City keeps this place open all year. Very affordable for all the neighborhood (free for Seniors and small kids). If you're a serious lap swimmer, the hours are very specific and limited. This place is also very crowded on hot summer days. As other people note, the locker rooms are minimalistic and prison-like, but your personal items are safely checked in a mesh pouch guarded by a staff member. There are also numerous classes and teams using the facility. Despite its proximity to a highway 2 offramp, it's actually in a lovely setting at the base of the foothill in Glassell Park. read more

This is a serious post O.K. I love Glassell & it holds a special place in my heart. There is a homie who works the men's locker room named Diego & he's the best. We always talk about cars and he tells me about his trips to Mexico. I would recommend Glassell to anyone just on Diego alone because he's a really chill carnal and very helpful if the shower breaks or there's something funky in the bathroom. I've been to other LA pools and some fools behind the counter are trying to do the least. NOT DIEGO. N E way...the pool is like the California dream. It's outdoors so when the sun shines you shine with it and if you aren't into fake tans u can still stay Brown year round. I grew up as a swimmer so every time I go here I get flashbacks of my youth...simpler times when all you needed to worry about was what was for dinner and what time your homies wanted to link up online for Halo 2. After I lost my grandma (R.I.P.) I came to swim here 1 time and cried underwater but nobody could see my tears so I also recommend this place to anyone who is looking for the greatest, natural therapy...the womb of water where we all came from. Amen. 1000/10. Last note for those who weren't looking 2 read my introspective review...Glassell is a public pool so they run obscure hours. The hours are always up on the yelp page but be mindful that these hours change depending on the season. During winter they are open from 6-8am in the morning, but during summer hours it changes from 6-10 sometimes which is a game changer for those early risers that aren't trying to go HAM at 6am. Given the broad range and modest expectations you can have with any los angeles public facility, this pool is rather good and caters to the serious lap swimmer or the local throngs of children in the niegborhood looking for a recreational activity outside the simulated game world. I have been in public pools all over the Southern California area with the most exceptional being in fullerton, e.g. the Janet Evan's Swim Complex is truly amazing, but for the cost of 2 dollars with a library card the Glassel pool is fantastic for general lap swim centric users. The only downside is the locker room and changing area which are skeletal. The urinals are typical but the stalls are unusable and claustrophobic. Unlike other hyper hygenic reviewers, I do use the shower but always wearing a waterproof shoe where ever I walk. The only down side are the hours. There is a morning swim and the Afternoon starting at 12 (10 in the summers) but then for an inexplicable reason there is break between 2;30-3;00 where the pool shuts down (possibly to purge excessive or long term swimmers?). It reminds me of the anachronism of summer vacations that still base their calender on the notion we're an agrarian society from the 19th century. for the price the pool is what you should expect, a clear watering hole that is kept fairly clean and warm. read more

weve been going to verdugo/eagle rock every week and we didnt even noticed that there is a pool by the verdugo exit. pool, enough space for recreational swim & lap swim. shower and changing area are clean & the attendant is nice. this is the only public pool that you could bring water & food, i am glad, coz there are no vendors outside. so next time i will come prepared and bring snacks for my kiddos! read more

I am so happy to have found this public pool! For only $2.50 a gal can swim to her hearts content. Luckily I didn't go at a high volume time ( I went an hour before closing) so I had an enjoyable experience. Plenty of time to swim around and do some laps. The pool is big, clean and inviting. Staff was friendly. I would give the pool 5 stars except that the lockers rooms are a little dingy. Personally, I don't think I would use them as they are a little rough for my taste. So glad I found this pool! I expect to use it several times this summer. read more

This pool is clean and nice but OMG my kid is in tears because the lifeguard hauled her into the office and wouldn't let her wear her dive mask in the pool. My kid has problems with the goggles and the mask has really helped her in the water. First of all, don't embarass my kid at the pool and don't take away her mask. She was given googles that fell off and kept her from swimming. Huge FAIL Glassell park pool. I'll be calling you. read more

This is my go-to pool for when the days are hot and sunny. When they're cloudy or slightly chilly, I'm off to Echo Park. For public pools, I can't complain at all. The swim pass is worth it, especially since it never expires. My only "complaint" is that the parking lot is almost always filled up with cars whose owners are obviously not in the pool/park. Someone behind the counter said that people who work close by (unsure which businesses there are around, as I don't see anything obvious) park in the lot. I don't mind parking on the street, but I don't understand the concept of having a parking lot if the patrons can't even park there. read more
