He inquired politely-- Hi, those are my sunglasses, I forgot them here yesterday. (They were distinctive & bent, not likely to be two pairs in the same locker room.) This pool is closed to the public during the school year but is open during June/July/August. Most of the pool is reserved for swim team training in the center deep section during open hours, and for families with children on one of the shallow ends. The shallow end that is closest to tree shade is reserved for a mix of open classes and "lap swimmers". Since you are going across the pool it's less than 25 yards. In terms of depth, remember this is a shallow end of the pool so there's a limited strip which is greater than 6 feet deep. During the summer I took up lap swimming alongside full blown lessons. For a lot of the instruction, adult/children learners were hanging off the side doing drills so it was still manageble to find straight lines for swimming laps. The problem with the pool is it is not that clean. Murky-ish water and hair multiple times came up. There is no rule about swimming caps. The lifeguards feel the need to come wash their feet in the pool just as we are swimming there. The optics and the feeling of being in someone's bathwater are gross. As well I don't enjoy the shallow end for swimming. The best part of this pool is its location near trees and the cubicles for individual changing with benches and a hook. As well, I made some friends among the regular learners who came every day to put in practice time. I enjoyed my swim friends. Now that school is back in session, City of LA Parks and Rec have shut down the pool entirely to the public. It's a shame because if they were to keep it open at the weekends to the public, it would be a source of heat relief for regular families during LA'S hottest months of the year, September and October. Really LA City Parks and Rec could be cognizant of low and middle class people who don't have private pools and rely on municipal pools like this one to stay cool during these life-threatening brutal heatwaves. read more

It's a fair price to enter, but it's just a bare essentials pool. You can't use the pool noodles, life vests or the float boards they have unless you're part of their class. I guess that's understandable but there isn't even an option to rent. The lifeguards were unprofessional and not very nice either. I'm giving it three stars because it's a good entrance price. Kids are $1 and adults are $3.50. Also, the pool was clean. So that's good. read more

This is further away from home than Glassell Park pool so it is unlikely that I will come here often. The nice thing is that it is much less crowded than Glassell park pool. There are more teenagers hanging around on the roads riding through on skateboards, but generally, less families picnicking outside the fences or splashing around the 'shallow end' and trying to sneak into your lane... as they do at Glassell & Griffith Park. In fact, if you swim laps, note that the lanes here are shorter that Glassell's pool. In fact, are no lanes, so swim with your eyes open to avoid colliding into the guy who is doing a backstroke from one end to the other in a diagonal direction. Because it's less crowded, the water seems cleaner, bluer and fresher. [Overheard at Glassel Park Pool on a very busy and hot day... Lifeguard: Does the water seem saltier to you today? Swimmer: "No. Do you add salt in the water? Lifeguard: "No, we don't add salt. But there is salt in people's sweat.] Ew!!! Yosemite Pool is a seasonal public pool run under the auspices of City of LA Parks and Recreation Department. The pool was recently renovated and resurfaced. There is an covered observation area outside of the pool where abuelita's and non swimmers can chill in the shade. There are affordable/ free swim classes for children through adults as well as water polo, swim team and diving teams. The pool also reserves an area just for lap swimming, which is great. The life guards and staff are on top of things and run a safe operation. This Summer I have seen two water rescues by the guards, and having grown up in country club culture I have to say that I am very impressed by not only their quickness, but their cool heads and coordination Here is why I adore this pool- $2.00 with library card- kids free- nice! read more

Maybe more close to 3.5 stars, and I've only gone with my toddler son. When I lived in West LA I used to go to Stoner park, and the stoner pool, which was made for little kids and toddlers to have fun with all the fun splash stations. For some reason I expected some similar stuff at the Yosemite Pool. Instead the pool is just a regular pool which is not bad I suppose. The entry fee is pretty cheap as you would expect from a city pool, and the staff friendly. Bring exact change. A OK place to go to get some swimming in during the summer, but not one of the best. read more

awesome outdoor pool! really big and perfect for enjoying a hot summer day. they have a diving board that is open anyday when recreational swim is available. this pool open from July to August & closes down after summer (August 14-16) the reopens again next summer. besides that during the day's that they are open its a very fun pool to come relax at ....as well the staff is awesome and it's always good vibes read more

this pool is better than the glassell park pool, but if you love swimming and tanning like me, don't be stupid. make more money and live by the beach or get an apartment with a pool, because the LA pools just aren't cutting it in my book. okay so they are free with your los angeles pubic library card. excellent service!!! but there's a down side. forget chairs. (i can live with it). forget playing in the shallows (i have yet to find an LA pool with a graded entrance- and too bad cuz that really helps little kids learn how to swim). and the worst and i just found this out today: you cannot untie your strings on your bathing suits girls. i wasn't flashing anything! i have nothing to flash anyways! i was laying on my tummy, completely flat, with the strings untied so there would be no lines, and today was the first day out of many many days that i've been there that a lifegaurd came and told me i couldn't. i don't like her! she made me feel like a nudist beach liker or a slut or something. i swear i'm neither!! i don't get it. it's just a string. no fabric is being lifted from the area that would get me a ticket. and she also told me i couldn't sit on the edge of the pool with my feet in the water. i don't know why. i guess you have to stay behind some line or something. and pay attention to the hours folks. they like to close for an hour between 3 and 4. it's cleaner than glassell pool, and it's newer, hence the 3 instead of 2 stars. that's about all i have to say about that had to edit this and knock it down a star. now that same pick on me girl has told my friend and i that we are not to wear white shirts to their pool!!!! seriously the nerve. i asked "why?" because i'm seriously sick of this arbitrary bossiness and she said "in case we do a drill that means you need help" ???????!!!!! geez are these rules written anywhere? have they ever even done a drill in the busy afternoon? i've never seen one done. ever. read more

Great outdoor pool. scenic mountain views, separate kid side and adult side. Not the best swimmers (kinda entertaining actually), and lanes are a little short for full on laps, but if you just want to cool down, swim a few casual laps, do a front flip off the diving board then this place is for you. read more

Clean and friendly atmosphere. Completed my private lessons here this summer ($20/lesson min. 4 lessons). Very accommodating and attentive. I went from a novice swimmer to make great progress. They also hold adult lessons that are held at 5pm for $20. Would I go back? Yes, but only for lessons. It's pretty difficult/weird practicing in a pool when it's 97% kids and 3% adults. read more

So sad this pool is seasonal! I'd give more stars if it were open year round. I really liked this pool because of it's size (huge) and location (set far back from the roads with trees and grass fields to look at). It's really clean and a nice place to lap swim despite the screams from the kids who are generally ropped off by bouyes in the shallow end. Cleaner and newer feeling than Glassel park pool, but Glassel park pool is year round and not that bad. Can't belive I actually PAID to swim in public pools in NY/Brooklyn that were super gross, indoor, and a lot more crowded. LA has got it much better in terms of public pools! read more

This pool is very nice. i don't understand people who complain about public pools that are basically free. They are there primarily there to serve people who cannot get to the beach, don't have friends w/ pools, can't afford the Y or admission to the Rose Bowl. Yes they should be kept as clean as possible, yes it would be great if they all had better filtration systems but the expectations that people bring seem unrealistic to me. This pool is in a beautiful location, relatively uncrowded, easy to park and mellow. Anybody who complains about skateboarders being nearby hanging out trying to learn tricks is a suburban tool. Love this pool. As a local resident love that the staff get to know my kids by name and always recognize us as parents. Great enthusiasm for all the novice teams. My kids have developed into fish for the summer because of the great experiences here. Real community feel and we practically live at this pool in the summer. read more

The people that work here are dishonest and the rules are straight up ghetto. Who makes parents sit behind a gated fence outside of the pool vicinity while their kids are taking lessons? Also other public pools do not make parents wear swim suits while their kids are in the pool, WTF? Who cares what I am wearing? It is additionally completely creepy that you have to make your sons that are over the age of 5 go into the "MEN'S" changing room to get to the pool!!!!!! Talk about extremely scary. I hate this pool, the staff are not honest! Just try another place, unless you completely have zero self respect and don't mind putting your children through potentially dangerous situations you'll feel just as uncomfortable here as I do. Yosemite Pool, please get with the times and revamp your codes and hire some people with backbone while you are at it. There are some nice life guards that could be working at any pool because they are from LA84, but the staff people lie and give you misinformation. Don't go here. read more

Glassell is currently better. When I first went there, I thought that there wasn't anything worse than the management at Yosemite. That one time I went there a couple of years ago, I had to take a swim test (haha) to prove that I could swim. So I did. I've been swimming for years, and have even been on swim team. I finished, and the lifeguard said they didn't see. Now maybe that could've been a lie, but I've been lied to many more times at Yosemite. I'll say that it used to be run well, and people actually went there, but now, it's managed terribly and like a private pool. Only one-third of the pool is available to the general public, making the diving board inaccessible. Also, they don't let you do many things a pool would normally let you do, such as wear mask & snorkel equipment, or even sit inside the area with a shirt on! I've got so many more stories...but for now, i'll talk about swim team. Ah yes, a place where you can get prizes for good races weekly. Well, often the pool is closed, and even though they have your number, they don't call, so you waste gas money. They also lie & say it may be open later, so they can get the overpaid, undeserved, money they shouldn't have. They have rules that don't make sense, such as making people swim halfway for one diver, stay behind a white line while waiting for the idiots to come out of their shack and let us swim, or do push-ups. We do them with nothing on our feet, so people get cuts all the time. At least I do. They also don't give you the prizes you earn when they should and they don't heal your wounds if you're injured, because "they are insignificant." They also don't focus on technique, showing you how to dive or do a flip turn. Just a big workout. The coach also doesn't do anything about people crashing into each other when swimming. Well, I'll make this the final part for now. The most recent, and absolutely insane thing the coach not allow me to swim after getting out and leaving for being on a side of the wall for a couple of seconds. There was a person in front of me, in my way, and I waited for him to go. She said to give 20, and I started leaving. Her idiot brain. She then made me come back to talk and said that I had to give 40 push-ups for trying to leave. I explained the problem of putting up with girls that won't obey water traffic; you're supposed to go down on the right, come back on the right of the line at the bottom of the pool. They don't do that; they talk and go in a row of several people, making it impossible to pass. I told her that, and she ignored what I had to say. THEY ABUSE THEIR POWER! THEY DON'T DESERVE THE MONEY TAXPAYERS GIVE TO THEM! TAXES PAY FOR THEM! She said I couldn't swim until I explained the problem, gave her 40, or apologized. I ended up doing all three, but she said she didn't see me doing 40. She ignored that I said others saw me do it and I had to do it again. LIES AFTER LIES! The people working here are horrible, lying, jerks. I can see why fewer and fewer people go to this pool. read more
