What an unprofessional nightmare. Needed two nightgowns hemmed. Both were returned with crooked stitching and one in the wrong color from the original (black versus red) with an hole. In order to re-do the repair, the seamstress demanded that I purchase the thread. The spool was insufficient and the work remains incomplete. When contacted by phone the seamstress abruptly says she does not have time to purchase additional thread and disconnects the call. Full cash payment is required before work is performed. read more

I am petite, 5'1" and always have to have pants hemmed. The first time I brought pants to them I had tried them on and pinned him and everything was fine. Picked up pants the next week. I brought 2 pairs of nurse uniform pants to them. They pinned up one pair and said no need to try on second pair since the the same pant. One pair was fine. The second was too short. I guess if you want to pre pin them yourself or have them pin for you (usually a wait) this alterations business would be fine but I doubted the overall skill as they couldn't get 2 pairs of identical pants hemmed same length. I definitely would not bring anything of value like a prom/bridesmaids dress . read more

Over the years, we've taken dresses that needed alterations, pants that needed hemming, a winter coat that needed expert tailoring and a men's suite jacket that needed to be taken in. Every piece was completed with quality work. They are a little pricey, particularly for an easy job like a simple dress hem, so be sure the piece of clothing is worth spending some additional money to get it perfect. read more

This is one of those locally owned, family run places that does not spend their income on advertising (thus passing the increase along to you) and fancy frills. Actually, to walk into the store is a little scary. They even have a sign up that says "shoes must be worn at all times" because of all the sewing pins on the the floor. However, if you can get past the "look" there is nothing these two women can't sew, fix or rework. I have had them fit a bridesmaids dress, take in pants that were 3 sizes too big and repair embroidery coming off of a sweatshirt, just to mention a few. When the item was returned to me I was amaze by the craftsmanship and surprised by the extremely reasonable pricing. The worst alterations job! I would have given it 0 stars. First of all I had 2 simple alterations. I wanted to shorten my pants, and adjust them at the waist. The price was high, and they asked for a payment when I left my items for alteration. Alterations in total took 3 weeks. Initially, when I picked up my pants after 2 weeks, the length was way too short, even though during the appointment they measured it as I wanted it, and the seam on the back did not look right. I asked them to fix the seam. It took another week of waiting. After a week, the seam still did not look good, and they took in the pants so much that they are too small for me right now. The quality of the work is awful. I had expensive pants that I was looking forward to wearing. Now, I need to find a new seamstress that is going to fix the mess that they have made. read more

I took my bridesmaids dress to be taken in around the waist well before the wedding. I received it on time for a good price. When I tried it on at home I realized they butchered the job. It was so blatantly obvious where they tried to fix it and the ribbon going around the waist sagged terribly in the spot. I brought in 4 brand new t-shirts that I had collected on travels to have hems and sleeves shortened. When I picked them up I was astounded, horrified and sickened to find each t-shirt's sleeves were cut and sewn extremely short despite the t-shirt being tried on by me and sleeves pinned up by one of the women. They tried to say this was what I requested but it sure wasn't! I would never wear sleeves so short as to expose most of my flabby upper arm. The t-shirts now looked ridiculous on! Standing there in front of the mirror watching how they were pinned (only 1 straight pin) I had a bad feeling they were going to f..k them up and boy was I right!! I disregarded my intuition telling myself they were experienced seamstresses. Hahaha! $72.00 paid in advance to have my (irreplaceable) souvenir t-shirts turned into rags. There is no recourse. I recently got a bridesmaid dress altered at Ah Sew. The service I received was horrible. When I got my dress back it needed multiple additional alterations. A pocket was sewn shut, the length was too long that I tripped over it, and it wasn't taken in at the sides, I felt like the dress might not have even been taken in at all. I brought the dress back to the store and asked for a refund or other compensation for the incomplete service but was told no. She offered to fix my dress again for me, but at that time I no longer wanted any further services from Ah Sew. I do not recommend their service and was really disappointed in their customer service. read more

Talk about being in a major pinch. I ordered a bridesmaid's dress for my sister's wedding, and upon receiving it, the dress wouldn't zip - even though it was ordered according to my measurements. When I say it wouldn't zip, I don't mean an inch or two...I'm talking about 6 inches. Whoever measured me clearly needed a lesson on how to use a measuring tape. Talk about being pissed off.... Anyway, insert Ah Sew. Kim saved my dress, the day and my life. I don't know what kind of magic she did, but she somehow managed to make my dress fit perfectly. Granted, it took an enormous amount of effort. But, $85 and only a week later, my dress would zip-up and lace-up. For the amount of work that needed to be done, the price was more than fair. And in the grand scheme of things, the charge for her services was a fraction of what I would have paid for a new dress - if I could even get it in time. I recommend Ah Sew to anyone in need of small or major alterations. In the future, I will be visiting Kim for any and all alterations that I have. Thanks again for saving the day... I'm so glad I found these ladies through Yelp. I bought a dress online that did not zip up and it was too small by a few inches. It was an expensive dress and I did not have the option of returning. I was pretty worried that it couldn't be adjusted. However, the tailor at Ah Sew told me that they could open up the seam and put the zipper back on. I picked up my dress exactly two weeks later and it fit perfectly. The work done was so neat that I could not even tell anyone had even adjusted it. I am the first to admit, I go through a high class phase every so often and want my clothes to fit with the detail of Hollywod and expect the process to treat me like a Mafia Don.... think "My Blue Heaven". With that, I compare everybody to the little Italian woman from the neighborhood I grew up in, 'god rest her soul'. Tried this place... shirt was about 10 or 12, suit coat about 35. Love the way the coats came out. The shirt seams are not exactly straight and to much fabric on the inside, I can feel it rub against me. They look reasonably good (shirts, already said I loved the coats). Glad to see the amount of teen/20ish people coming in to get dresses, sports jerseys and pretty sure one had a skirt made (I think I have wash clothes that are larger). Hope tailoring as a craft survives and that the baggy jean look is done with. :) I may go back, but have to shop around before I come back here. felt like I was dealing with laborers instead of craftsmen (craftpeople). read more

This place is great! I started coming here 12 years ago to get alterations for a bridesmaids dress and have used them up until this last fall for my wedding dress. My wedding dress was the most important thing so far and they did an amazing job. I have been nothing but happy and satisfied every time. Everything turned out great and always on time. There isn't anything these ladies can't handle. I have brought some difficult things and they did wonderfully. I owned a dress made of some kind of funky material and after the one time wearing it, it ripped a little at the hem. I am just coming to the realization that my clothes should, you know, fit me. Instead of just throwing perfectly good clothes that do not fit into a drawer from which they will never emerge, I thought I would find a tailor and see what would happen. I have gone in twice to have suit pants altered and have been very happy with the results. They shopkeepers were also able to turn the work around quickly since I needed one of the alterations done for a meeting. I was also surprised at the reasonableness of the cost: bringing in the pants several inches was $16 per pair. I had never had alterations done before, I had no idea what I should cost. I can't give them 5 stars without seeing the final product of course, but I was very pleased with their professionalism and have confidence my dress will look rockin' when I get it back! The lady working inside was very nice, very knowledgeable. She had me put on my dress and shoes and just went to work! Very polite and found problem areas I hadn't somehow noticed before, like my boobs totally not filling out the top. We're not talking a little bit here...i'm talking full on pinchy fabric making weird shapes on my boobs. What was going on when I tried on the dress to purchase that I missed THAT?! Anyway, they are going to shorten my straps and have to do a little front work on the chest area; quoted at around $28. I will definitely be updating the review when I get my dress back in a week. Not the best experience. I brought in two pieces (shirts) to have hemmed as they were too long. Only one piece was ready by the date that they had indicated. When I asked about the other, they said they needed me to try it on again. There was no attempt to call me to let me know this, but rather, they waited until I came in expecting to have both pieces back. Fine, so I tried on the shirt again and they told me it woudl be ready in one week. I go back after another week to have them say they forgot about it, but to come back in a couple hours right before they close. Big mistake. They did a horrible job on that piece. It's not even close to being straight. Anyone can tell it's not straight by taking a 20 sec look. Note: The first piece was done timely and was done 100 times better (still not perfect, but not noticeably off.) All in all, if you don't need it to be perfect and don't need it back for multiple weeks, this place will probably do. I wouldn't taken anything expensive there though. Update: Now that I have found a GREAT spot for my alterations elsewhere, I've realized that this service is horrible and doesn't even deserve a star. read more

This place saved my LIFE! I had a nightmare with a bridesmaid dress that was waaaaaay too tight (I was literally in tears) and Kim was able to fix it beautifully. It fit so well, was virtually unnoticeable, and turns out the other bridesmaids had similar sizing issues, but were told by their tailors that they couldn't do anything about it. Not to mention they wound up spending up to $40 more than I did to fix far less and I had it back within a week! I would highly recommend Ah Sew to anyone.
