I am so happy with the care and attention my mother is receiving here at Glen Terra Assisted Living! My mother has Alzheimer's and this place is a safe environment for her and I don't worry about her wondering off due to her having a wrist band that sets off an alarm anytime she gets close to the door and alerts staff! I can't say enough good things about the staff, they seem genuinely caring and they do things to keep the atmosphere upbeat , offering daily activities that keep the residents entertained, engaged and active, mentally and physically. Unfortunately I did not have the best experience while getting my elderly father situated. Life's unfair -- and everyone goes through it. I understand. However when you are providing medical care of any level, and are providing customer service based attention, you really ought to make sure your frontline, front office team is exceptional. Never in my entire life have I been so disrespected, dismissed, and treated less than, than being in that building. I had had a few questions regarding my dad's care. There are many siblings, I had a few concerns on visitations. More specifically what had happened was that my brother has texted saying he visited my dad. I had asked him how since we hadn't set up a "visitation list" or had never confirmed with anyone that anyone could see my dad. I also wanted to inquire on how to pay my dad rent -- as there was never a conversation had, and a failure to disclose such information. Nope! He walked right in, didn't even get questioned or stopped to sign in, just walked right in and visited my dad. How inappropriate, I know, so when I went to Cécilia the ugly inside and out front desk lady to ask about how this was allowed I was met with yelling, a nasty attitude, and a horrible experience where I was then ganged up on by her and Ana, a barely English speaking nurse who were both at that point berating and belittling me. Mind you, they are the ones in charge of care. They said the reason for them treating me this was as because lack of payment. They then labeled me, a 25 yr old Hispanic man as violent, aggressive, and rude -- in this political climate. How tone deaf. My dad on the other hand is having a blast. He's being treated well and I ended up just giving him a phone so he can report to me directly while he's still cognitive but after that I'm not too sure what my options are. Long story short, great overall care. Horrible front office and leading/managerial staff. They aren't trust worthy and are unfortunately just there for the check. DO NOT place loved one(s) with Alzheimer's Dementia at this community. While researching communities to place my loved one with Alzheimer's dementia, I came upon Glen Terra. I disclosed with Glen Terra staff my loved one Dementia diagnosis and personality. At that time I was told that GlenTerra has a Dementia Waiver, and that there were residents with Dementia at the community, and that staff was trained on interacting with behaviors of Dementia residents. During the 8 month stay, in the last 6 weeks my loved one experienced intermittent behavioral outbursts that involved other Glen Terra Residents. I understand the need to protect all residents, and safety of all residents is first and foremost. However, I would expect some understanding and cooperation in working together in addressing dementia behaviors. Anyone familiar and trained about Dementia should know that as disease progresses it can cause people to lose their ability to filter words and no longer recognize what is inappropriate or hurtful. Since Glen Terra is a community that comingles residents that DO NOT suffer from Dementia WITH Dementia residents, I would expect compassion and tolerance from residents and VISITORS for those who are less fortunate and ARE afflicted by this disease. During this time, I worked deligently with my loved one's doctor to adjust anti agitation medication. Ultimately, I was notified that Glen Terra could no longer care for my loved one, and I needed to find another place. All this mind you, via TEXT. No meeting, phone call. Let me say, that regular staff (housekeeping, dining services, care staff, front desk/concierge/med staff ) were VERY SUPPORTIVE in care. However management and property owners should NOT claim to be equipped or experienced in caring for residents with different stages of dementia. Glen Terra is NOT qualified to care for Dementia Residents and misrepresents itself by having a Dementia Waiver. read more

My father has been in for a little over a week now and I'm really impressed with the facility and staff. There's been some issues coordinating medical records for his doctor but I put the fault mostly on the doctor's office. The staff is very attentive to my dad's needs and truly seem to care about his well being. Great communication from management as well. It would be nice if they answered the phone when family or friends have concerns that need addressing. A senior would be better off staying in a hotel and having Medicare nurses come in 3x a week. At least they'd get daily maid service, and could order out for decent food. There is a lot of money in long term care, and most of it is not spent on resident care. This is in no way condemning staff. They get very low pay for essential and very hard work, and many of them do their best in a difficult system. It's the lack of training, with operations that are motivated for supposed efficiency and bottom line, not the residents' quality of life. The care is rushed, custodial, and inconsistent, the food sub par, and simple reasonable requests take hours, or are never answered at all. read more

Glen Terra has some wonderful staff working to help with all the needs of their patients/residents. When I found this place, I liked their overall feel of the esthetics. Then I was impressed with their quick responses to my requests and appreciated the management and staff being friendly and helpful. Carlos and Tony were so professional and helpful to get my needs met. Cecilia and Estelle, at the front desk, are very helpful and positive with everyone, treating the residents like a big family with smiles. I have enjoyed talking to the nurses and medical staff, who are taking diligent care of my mom. Ana, Lillian, Melanie are so sweet and so kind to her - always helping with to get her meds on time and staying on top of patient concerns. Maintenance has been quick to respond, and the rest of the staff are friendly and caring. With many activities and games - they keep the residents engaged and happy. This place is very well ran, with some minor improvements to the food menu, they are a highly desired location for anyone to trust their aging parents to be at. read more

When I came first for tour visit Anna the head nurse was so nice and made a good impression on us. My mom was the first resident under different program. And she moved there 2 weeks ago. So an incident came up with family member and she was rude to the head nurse. I aopologize. But the nurse should have told her to leave the office and facility and never come back. Then she approached someone at his car and was so much angry as if it was our fault. My mom didn't know that she would come to visit. She is banned from seeing my mom. Another minor thing my mom has restless personality when she calls for wetting her bed and changing sheets they say not now. Then I have to call the front desk and ask them a favor. But there are also other residents too no complain. I would recommend anyone who has family member to look in to it. Every body else is good with her. read more

Absolutely blown away by the care my mother has received here! She feels people pay attention to her and care well for her - which is all you hope for and worry about when trying to find help with a parent. Some places we looked at seemed like she would be just another body to make money from. I feel so comfortable letting the people at Glen Terra look after my mom. I'm also always pleased when I see how clean and well maintained her room and the facility are. We had my mom at another facility and I almost dreaded visiting because I felt so horrible about where my mom was staying. Now, I don't worry as much and I feel comforted when I get to visit. I am especially grateful to Terry who seems so involved with his staff and all of the clients. He's always so light-hearted and fun. He pays attention to the details - even knows my mother's likes and dislikes because he actually takes time to talk with her! I'm so impressed. The owners of this facility should get rid of Terry. This guy lacks understanding and compassion for working with families that are trying to navigate the stress of finding a place for their parent. He has no people skills at all and his tactics to get you to sign up are horrible. To anyone in a position looking for a place for mom or dad, don't go here. I recently toured here for my grandmother after multiple times of her caregiver kept calling off and just proved to be unreliable. As of today she is not ready to make the move yet but after touring 4 different properties I knew that this is the only place I could envision my grandmother living comfortably. Staff was warm and welcoming, during my tour I had a chance to talk with a few residents who let me know they were happy there and they loved all the staff. It was reassuring and surprising to walk in and see everyone genuinely happy and engaged, not to mention there was NO smells like I experienced at a few other buildings. The rooms were very big, spacious, and private and one of the only places that had an actual kitchenette which is very important for my grandmother who has cooked her whole life. I hope to being my grandmother back one day, thankful to Diana who provided the tour and was so informative and kind. read more

I recently referred a family here for their loved one and have heard nothing but great things on how clean and updated the facility is, as well as how welcoming it is with the staff and the caregivers that work there. Additionally, Glen Terra is pet friendly, which is difficult to find in any other assisted living facilities. This was a bonus to this family as the loved one really wanted to be able to bring their dog! As a social worker, it is important to me that when I give families options for assisted living, that it gives quality care with friendly and caring staff. I've been looking for a nursing home for a while now for my aunt, and I've looked at many other centers within the area. I can honestly say, this place was the best one out of all of them! Very clean and beautiful rooms, and all the staff members are extremely friendly and helpful. The room we got for my aunt is perfect in size, and she loves the food that they provide. They do a very good job of paying close attention to the special dietary needs that she has (hypertension and diabetes). My aunt also ended up creating many new friends here, and no longer feels alone. Highly recommend this place! read more

I have been a resident at GT for over two years, and it has gone down hill in many respects during the past several weeks or so. The GM was replaced recently which may help, but it will take time for him to get up to speed in his new job. The staff here works hard and does a great job, but they are saddled with the same inadequate management and communication structures that residents are and I'll cite some examples. The dining room service and food leave a lot to be desired. The person at the front desk has informed me and I believe that the dining room servers have no supervisor-incredible! Can you imagine a restaurant with that same situation? No, neither can I. No server writes down our orders, again incredible! Which means that they get garbled or partially forgotten especially if the server tries to remember two or more orders before going to the kitchen, which does happen. It appears that there is very little if any training or guidance. Some have a language problem too. For example I recently ordered V-8 juice twice and received orange juice! I then said that I wanted vegetable juice which I received. Most of the meat we get seems to me to be less than top quality, meaning it's hard to chew. One day one of my table mates said it was like shoe leather! Back in Feb. of this year my daughter had several phone conversations with the supposed dietician here while I was in the hospital during which they agreed I would receive pureed food. I'm still waiting for it 10 months later! The above is just one example of the management/communication weaknesses here. read more

Long overdue. Back in November 2019 I was researching Assisted Living Facilities for my uncle who was at a Skilled Nursing Facility which, well, had it's issues. I live in Northern CA so I had to line up a few tours to coincide with a planned trip down. Glen Terra was the 3rd facility I toured in a day, and after meeting Diana and seeing the facility, I knew I had a favorite I was leaning towards. I could tell Diana wasn't just trying to "fill another bed". Her low pressure, engaging and caring approach to assess my need was something that definitely stood out. The apartments I toured while there we're nicer, larger, and less expensive than what I had toured earlier that day. I knew my favorite of the (3) places I toured that day and it didn't take much convincing to get my uncle on board with the move so I quickly began working with Diana to move forward. Again, being from out of town, I had several phone calls and countless text messages with Diana in order to finalize things and get all the necessary docs filled out prior. Diana was always available, always understanding, and always helpful. She coordinated taking delivery of a TV and bed sheets that would be going into my uncle's room along with recommending and working directly with a Hospice organization to get things prepared for his arrival. In addition, she worked on obtaining quotes from a couple different medical transport companies to get him moved. Just before the move day, we're talking less than 24 hours before, my uncle took a turn for the worse. We had to delay the possibility of a move until he could be assessed by Hospice and the decision was made to NOT move him. After all her work, we had to cancel the move. Regardless, Diana was professional and understanding, and continued to stay in touch with me for updates. Unfortunately, my uncle passed away within 24 hours of going on Hospice. After his passing, I was able to get refunded of all deposits and fees I had sent for the move - not a thing was charged. Diana handled the entire situation as if it involved a family member of her own. With that said, I can only say, give Glen Terra a good look. After my uncle's death, I was really disappointed that he didn't get a chance to enjoy such a nice place and be surrounded by great staff. Hunting for a good Assisted Living place can be a lot of work, but it's nice to find someone like Diana at such a great facility to help make things a bit easier. read more

My elderly friend was in Glen Terra almost two years. I visited her often and got to see first hand how well the place is run and how well the residents are taken care of. My friend and I would talk almost daily and she was very pleased with everything. She loved the food and the movies and occasionally going out for a ride around the city. She was well taken care of and always mentioned how nice the girls that helped her were. (Also, Benny, Samuel and Bob.) When you walk into Glen Terra it is like going into a very nice hotel. I want to thank everyone that helped my friend and helped me as well, especially Diana, Cecelia, Tracy, and Carlos. I highly recommend Glen Terra. read more

This place is below Average! My grandma got a stage 2 bed sore in the first year of living there and she's only 84. The "MedTechs" aren't certified and they are not Registered Nurses. They have no idea what they should do to help besides hand out pills. My grandma can walk but she needs help and they neglected to move/shift her position every 2-3 hours which led to the bed sore. She would have to wait over 30 minutes sometimes when using the Call Light for someone to finally come to her room. On top of that, one of the caregivers would come in my grandmas room and use her Iphone charger without even asking she just plugged her own f**ckin phone in and walked out of my grandmas room and my brother and I were literally sitting in the room. I dont know why people get away with this. They have a false sense of pride considering all this happened to my grandma within the first year of arrival. They have not really helped our family out. The place is filthy and the rooms (not the ones they show you on the tour) have the most gag worthy stench. My mom has been a resident at Glen Terra since 2015. Yes, even before the new owners. I don't write many reviews, but I felt that now was the time. I always knew this place was amazing. The staff all work so hard, do a amazing job and all of them are so loving and caring to the residents. Thank you Glen Terra for being AMAZING. Right now during these unsettling times, Glen Terra is going above and beyond for caring for my mom and all the residents there. All staff and residents get their temperatures checked daily. They are not allowing any visitors at this time. Residents all practice social distancing during dining. Glen Terra is taking precautions and I appreciate it. Although, It is hard not to see my mom, I know she is safe and being well taken care of and that's what's important. Glen Terra was my mother's home for the past 2 years. The apartments are nice and the residents are lovely people. Management, nursing staff and residential aides are well trained and caring. While there were a couple of hiccups in service over the span of two years, the administration was always responsive and immediately course corrected. During the final weeks of my mom's life, everyone was kind, supportive and loving. I am grateful for their professionalism and heart. 4 hearts instead of 5 because mom was unhappy with the food now and then, but she didn't necessarily exercise her options often either. Glenterra what a relief to see this facility. Mom wants to stay in Southern California my sister and I were going to tour 7 places for her then take her to see our choice. Wondering what the days ahead would bring we held our breath and off we went. We drove to three places, not even going into one of them. A couple of them were very nice inside much like a hotel but with limited means they were out of our price range. Driving in Los Angeles from Hollywood to Culver City then south to USC area, Glendale was almost on the tomorrow list. Criss crossing the vast city was daunting, yet I got this feeling that we should go see this Glenterra place that my sister had not put on the list. We arrived at the building it has a bricked driveway very inviting. It appeared well maintained and vibrant. A couple of active seniors came out of the building , one with a golf club the other on the way to his vehicle. The double doors were easy to open with a waiting area just steps away. We were greeted by a young lady at the desk re our appointment time change as we called ahead on short notice. The manager, Allen, met us with a big smile and a welcome into his office to chat a few minutes before the tour of the facility. We spoke about our Mom and her needs. Mom requires help bathing and assistance to the dining area. We toured the dining area looked at the menu. The residents have a choice of the daily special or an alternate choice at each meal. Dietary restrictions are accommodated. The staff was pleasant and were busily helping clients .There is a baby grand piano, card tables, and a flat screen tv in the social area. The halls are wide and clean and there are two cats that live on site for the residents to enjoy. We viewed moms potential room, and Allen gave us a few minutes to talk privately. The weeks activities are placed in a wall slot at every room. The bathroom shower was a walk in (flat) with a pull down seat in the wall. The room was bright with lots of windows. Her room had its own heat control , microwave, small fridge, sink and few cabinets the closet is large and has easy access. It was as if we had a miracle. We Googled the other two choices for the next day and saw they were just houses not facilities. It didn't matter because we had now found the ideal place for our Mom. We brought Mom on Friday for the interview to see if she thought she could live there. It was all positive. It all turned out well it's been 3 weeks now she is happy. read more

My father is in his 80's he recently fell and broke his Pelvic bone and being a non weight bearing injury he needed help in every aspect that my mother also in her 80's could not endure. I vetted several different locations and decided to check out Glen tera for him until he was able to get back on his feet! I set up an appointment with Diana to check out the facility and as soon as I arrived everything was a strict Covid-19 protocol which made me feel safe to put my father in. Diana not only throughly explained everything she set up my father with a very nice room and made me really comfortable. Leaving my father somewhere for an extended period of time was a tough decision but Glen Tera made it very easy! My father was extremely pleased with the attentive service and he felt at home! Knowing he was somewhere else and under the care of people I didn't know was a difficult pill to swallow but he is now at home and couldn't be happier about his experience and the care he had recieved! During such a crazy uncertain year, my family and I have had major peace knowing my aunt is in a safe environment since we moved her in to Glen Terra. We toured so many different assisted livings and board and care facilities too, but this is the only place that my aunt could have her privacy and space, but have her social interaction when she feels like it. The rooms are double the size of every other place we looked at but the same price or if not less. Every day they make my aunts bed, check on her multiple times in the day and PM and make sure she eats up her food and gets to the bathroom safely. My aunt was not taking good care of herself at home and it became too much for the family to keep checking in, especially after her last fall where she ended up hospitalized. We are relieved she has put on some weight and we are so thankful she is under the close watch and care of loving staff, all the caretakers are amazing and my aunt just loves Pimeh. I am also thankful to Carlos and Diana who made a move in during covid times easy and smooth as possible. Thank you for all you do. read more

This review is based on the time I was living there. I must also add that I have not lived in any other assisted-living to compare it with, maybe all places are the same, I don't know. THE GOOD : Location is excellent, by Brand Blvd, supermarkets and all kinds of shopping and restaurants nearby, but if the resident is immobile it becomes a moot point. The building is nice and clean, Hallways are wide, and the units are okay. Three meals a day and half-an-hour to clean each unit once a week included with your basic rent. THE BAD : Always short-staffed four days a week Friday to Monday. RAs (Resident Assistants) generally don't care, have no understanding and no compassion. Some are rude, some are angry, some lie, and generally all complain too much; maybe because the job is stressful. There is no male RA. Almost all RAs don't respond in timely fashion; there is no system to record when a call wire is pulled and when RAs come. Over the basic rent additional Chargers are $600 for medication, $150 for laundry, etc., and depending on how many RAs help you the charge for that help could go over $2000, the food is almost always the same. The rate is increased 5% per year (negociable). The ugly is about my experience there. THE UGLY : I am 60 years old, 160 pounds, and I have multiple sclerosis. I moved to Glen Terra on Feb. 1, 2015 to live without stress, because stress is the NUMBER ONE enemy for my disease and it worsens my condition considerably. I was fine until a few months later when it was sold to a new ownership and since then I had nothing but stress until I left on Oct. 1, 2017 when I was forced out, not by an eviction notice but by raising my rate considerably. I had told about my condition and stress to everyone under the old and new ownership. Jack the main new owner had hired M as a so-called marketing manager. The first thing she did was to fire many of the employees and hire new ones or change their working days and hours to force them to quit, which many of them did. She repeated this for many months, it put tremendous stress on all employees from kitchen staff to RAs and all the residents. She also got rid of many of the residents that she found undesirables, those who needed more assistance than she deemed acceptable! On Mar. 1, 2016, Jack and M came to my room. Outright M said I have to leave because supposedly 3 RAs got injured assisting me. Jack said nothing and just listened. I was shocked, stressed. It affected me emotionally and physically so much that I did not talk to any of the RAs for a month, and tried to ask for as little assistance as possible. I called the ombudsman and complained, she said they have to give me an eviction notice with a valid reason. So I stayed while looking for other places, but still very stressed waiting to get a notice. The end of the month came and nothing happened other than the negative affect on me. It was a horrible month. The final blow began on June 26, Jack came with A the nurse and T the manager. Jack told me he can't handle it anymore because RAs complain that I am hard to take care of, so I had to leave. At that moment I felt like someone was pouring boiling water over my head that went all the way down to my fingertips, the sensation was excruciating. The mental stress they put me under affected me physically, speeding up my deterioration considerably yet again. During the more than two years that the place was under the new ownership I had my share of problems and events with the RAs and the nurse. When I first moved there I could use both my hands and could transfer a little by holding onto things. By the time I left I had completely lost the use of my right hand and could barely use my left. I know I would've deteriorated to this point, but I figured I had a good 15 years before getting there if only I had no stress. Do not choose this place if the resident to be has a chronic condition. Whenever I pulled a call wire on almost all occasions it took 20 minutes or more, sometimes 2 to 3 hours before any RA showed up. Many times I had to call the receptionist to ask her to call RAs for me. I know that many residents had problems with the staff shortage and call wire issues. I always tried to make the RAs lives easy when helping me. I started to sleep on my wheelchair and even then they complained. I wanted to buy a lift to make the job of lifting me much easier but was not allowed to because according to them they had no license for it! RAs had the habit of barging in. I had three new unopened colognes stolen. Had shirts and sheets shredded to pieces due to faulty washer and dryer. Do not believe the five star ratings, only believe the one or two star ratings unless there are dozens of positive five star ratings. It is quite clear which reviews are fake. There are a lot more and many details that I'm not writing in this review because there isn't enough space. All I can say is that I hope it is better now, but at the end you be the judge. read more

This community is so charming! It looks small in front but once you walk in, you'll be surprised by all the open space. I had the opportunity to tour the community with the Director of Community Relations, Diana Avakyan. Diana was incredibly sweet and helpful! She showed us around the community, as well as a couple of different rooms, and everything was laid out very well. The entire facility was so clean that it almost looked like a hotel. I even had the chance to meet some of the other staff. Everyone is so nice here and there always seems to be something going on, which keeps the residents involved at the community. I work as a CNA at a skilled nursing facility and families will sometimes ask about whether they should take care of their loved one at home or consider other options. My father lives here. The place had a change in management in late 2019, and the awful GM was replaced by a really good one, Carlos, who is courteous, responsive, caring, and also incredibly well-rounded with regard to all aspects of running a facility like this. Apparently he was a chef once. After Carlos had a meeting with the food staff, my father no longer complains about the food. The dining hall also was renovated so that is bright and not so cramped as before. All of the employees here, from the front desk staff to the building maintenance people, have cheerful, helpful attitudes. There are core resident assistants (RAs) who are very reliable, but there can be some turnover as needs of new residents change and new staff are hired or let go. A couple of times my father ran out of a medication or vitamin, and the staff did not inform me, so that system could be improved. Be prepared for periods during the day that are rush hour around mealtimes and before bedtime, when the wait for assistance can be up to a half hour. Unlike many assisted living places, the residents actually get a full apartment, not just a bedroom, which makes it easier for family visits, and allows the resident more home comforts. The neighborhood is very pretty for walking around. Overall, now that Carlos is there, I am glad my father is in Glen Terra. read more
