Our 15 year old greyhound, NFL Steph, who was our beautiful, black beauty for 11+ years, becoming, over time, unable to jump into our vehicle for walks or for medical treatment, or to allow us to assist her in doing so. We were very fortunate to learn that the Animal Medical Hospital at Glenwood offered home visits by such knowledgable and compassionate doctors such as Dr. Amy Wysocki, Dr. Erika Watkins and most recently, Dr. Adrianna Sniezek. Dr. Adrianna and Emily came to our home this past Tuesday to help our beloved, rescue racer, Steph, transition to that doggy playground in the sky, who has been suffering with legs that no longer supported her or kept her from falling over; great difficulty in even trying to settle down on her many pillows; and an inability to maintain her weight, as she wasted away into black skin covered ribs, protruding hip bones and an alligator spine. She had become completely incontinent, even though my wife took her out day and night ever 3 hours to relieve herself. The compassionate service that Dr. Adrianna and Emily offered was so comforting to Steph and to us, as they talked us through the procedures that they were going to administer: the medication to make her relax, relieve any pain and finally to pass away. It felt, to my wife and i, as if we were witnessing a human hospice passing. So professional and respectful and comforting to our beloved 4-legged baby, and to my wife and i, as Steph passed peacefully away in the familiar and confomforting surroundings of our home. We could not have asked for better medical treatment, even from a medical practitioner for humans.

Everyone was nice etc but they added on $54 because they said she was in heat, she wasn't, that she had bubbles in the uterus etc so it cost more. I stopped taking our cats there because on a prior visit when we got our boy neutered and then I had to call and ask a question they referred to him as she. When I corrected her she argues with me and said his chart said he was female. I pointed out that he was neutered and she hung up. I should have just paid the extra money and taken her to be spayed at my regular vet and I ended up paying almost the same thing.

The employees are friendly. Making an appointment for a week out is easily done. Out of all the times we have been there there haven't been any issues. Today was a bit different. Mugsy was shaved and a small cut was on his body. No mention of this to me. I found it after going over him when we got back home. The owner contacted me, apologized and did what she could to provide future service for Mugsy. If there is a problem bring it to the manager or owners attention and they will rectify the issue within reason.

I would encourage people to not be deterred by any negative reviews of this business and give them a chance and formulate your own opinion. An error did occur in one of our visits, but I won't go into detail because I think what's more important is not what error it was that occurred, but rather the incredible efforts made in response by the business to rectify the issue. Our concerns were listened to and the response was respectful. The owner not only heard our concerns but they were able to show they can be objective in their assessment of the issue. They went above and beyond to make it right. The solutions offered were both incredibly generous and fair. In terms of the quality of the grooming, they made our fur babies look like pristine angels. They smell fantastic too, and their hair looked amazingly glossy and soft. They appear to do great with grooming both small and large dogs (we have both), and they even did great work on our big boy who has hair that's more difficult to work with. In resolving the issue with one of our pups, they blended things perfectly to make the original issue appear more natural and less jarring. The staff there seem to love what they do, have patience, and take pride in their work. They have great humor as well. We will be happy to take our fur babies there again.

We've been satisfied clients of Shady Spring for years. What they do, they do quite well. Our…read moredogs have been well cared for and have come home happy, well-adjusted and (almost always) healthy. Once in awhile a little kennel cough, but what kennel is not plagued occasioanally. Our dogs always are happy to go there, with no trace of anxiety or fear. On-premises grooming is quite excellent, but for this and several other available customizations , there is a (fully disclosed) up-charge. Pricing is fair, but if you opt for the special attenton packages (camping, hiking, cuddle time, etc.), it can get a little pricey. Hours are sufficiently flexible too.

We unfortunately had a very negative experience at Shady Springs…read more We don't have a car so we had to pay $120 round trip for our dog to be picked up from our apartment and dropped back off. We were traveling and not due to land back in DC until late afternoon. I expressed this to them, and they told me they could drop him off between 5p and 7p. Well, around noon on the day we were traveling I called them to ask when exactly he'd be dropped off. They told me he had been sitting at our vets office for hours already--no notification he'd be dropped off 7 hours before we expected, nothing. To make matters worse, he also had on no collar because they make you take it off your dog when you drop him off. We were still halfway across the country, making this a very stressful situation. When I called to ask why they would do this, they told me they would "never" have said he could be dropped off that late. They offered no help or recourse, and basically said it was my problem my dog was sitting alone in a vets office while we were still many hours away. Luckily we have friends who could go get him--not sure what we would have done otherwise. Also, the base fee simply gets your dog put in an "enclosure" (cage) and fed. Any other human interaction, including walks, or time outside will cost you extra. I've sat on this for a few months, because I really hate leaving bad reviews. But after sharing our experience with other dog owners I've decided I should write this. Don't board your dog here.
