Got an airbrush spray tan for a wedding coming up. The girls were very helpful in helping me choose an appropriate shade as I didn't want anything too dramatic since I haven't gotten a spray tan in 6+ years. They told me to wash it off in 2 hours which I think was an appropriate time. Only thing I wish is if the salon would provide more instructions or information like wiping down the palms of the hands or bottom of feet. I had forgotten to do that as I haven't had a spray tan in years and my hands look a little crazy lol other than that it was a very good experience. Where to start.. well for one Nicole is amazing! I used to do custom airbrushes myself 10 years agoand after that I just went the easy route of the Versa machine out of convenience. My tan never looked great, but I was lazy and that was easy. I was recently a bridesmaid in my girlfriends wedding, in Paris none the less! The dress colors were to be blush, beige, nude, etc.. Well that is the color of my skin naturally! I knew I needed to step up my spray tan game for the occasion, so I started asking around. A number of people referred me to Nicole at Glo Up. I reached out and she not only got back to me right away but asked me questions about the event and everything. I was worried because I was leaving for Paris on a Thursday and the wedding wasn't until Tuesday. She walked me threw my options and how we could plan to keep my tan super fresh until the wedding day. I set up the appointment and couldn't have been happier with the results. The color was gorg, the tan looked so natural, hands and feet were flawless, and I still had color on Tuesday for the wedding! Glo up, have reached out multiple times on social media and no response. I reached out responding to a photo of a girl you posted on your story in her wedding dress stating how the tans do not bleed on to dresses which is completely false. Ladies If I could do anything different on my wedding day my tan from glo up would be one of them. My tan looked embarrassing around my armpits. The tan even bled onto my Rue de seine both dress and sleeves. Leaving brown and orange stains, this happened even before our reception. I wasn't even sweating that much. I even bought the three pack tans from gloup to have a couple of trial runs before. The first tan I had spots throughout my body that did not tan properly and It barely lasted, no one could tell I even got a tan... which was fine because the plan was to get it RIGHT before my wedding, but even on my wedding day my tan just felt too unnatural... my makeup artist said "wow you are dark!"then we go right into our honeymoon following the wedding and the tan start to fade instantly around my chest and bikini line. (Super sexy!) I am assuming where my underwear/bikini rubs... haha I didn't even go into the water and this still happened! Keep in mind I am not new to spray tans, i had followed all the steps recommended by Glo up and steps spray tan goers should all already know. I had never experienced a tan that has made me fade around my bra and bikini line like glo up did. I even drove 45 minutes out of my way because I thought Glo up would give me this great tan that they promote so much of for future brides. . Glo up I wish you would have responded back to me months ago about my disappointment. I wasn't even that upset until I saw you promoting the tan again stating the tan doesn't stain dresses, which is completely false because it absolutely stained my dress. LADIES I had so much on my mind leading up to wedding, but maybe I should have been smarter in truly testing out my tan the next day in a white tube top, or even put my bikini on the next day, I just didn't think I needed to go to this extent to make sure the tan would work for me when glo up is always promoting the tan won't stain/bleed, will last....So it was just an overall not good experience from me. This is the makeup I had done for my birthday dinner on Saturday. You can clearly see this isn't how someone should leave a salon looking after they get it professionally done. I was so upset because getting my makeup done is one thing I love to do for special occasions to make myself feel better. When I first sat in the chair I told Nicole from Gloup Chicago located in Oakbrook I showed her an inspiration picture and I told her that I don't want any fake eyelashes as it's just my personal preference. I've gotten my makeup done many times before and it's never been an issue. Throughout my time in her chair, she kept asking if I was sure I didn't want eyelashes as it would complete my look... she even had me try them on them see if I would change my mind and even after that I still said I didn't want them. My eyelashes are pretty naturally long so mascara is usually enough for me. When Nicole was done I checked out paid & tipped her too... I get to my car and in natural lighting when your not inside a salon it definitely shows more. It was very visible that it doesn't look like I have any mascara on my eyelashes if there is any, my eyeliner is not complete on the one side (almost looks like I slept on it and am wearing it the next day) while the other side does not look like that, my lip is lined completely uneven and my eyes are so dark it almost looks like I have 2 black eyes. It wasn't what I was looking for clearly so after I cried on my way home and took a shower I reached out to the salon owner on Instagram since that's how I found her in the first place and booked my appointment with her. We also had conversed on the phone on Saturday because she said she "didn't handle things like this on Instagram" so per her request I called her. Immediately upon answering she tells me that I didn't want eyelashes so that's why I didn't get the look I wanted. I told her that I wasn't trying to offend her and she said "Oh girl don't worry I'm not offended I just booked a whole wedding party" (I wish I was kidding). She also said "it's clear that you just don't like me and what my business stands for so I don't know how you became a client of mine". And she ended the phone conversation on Saturday telling me that "I'm at a loss for words so I need time to find them and than I can get back to you is that okay" and of course I said Yes. So this morning I hadn't heard anything back so I reached out to hear again asking if she had made a decision. She even went as far as comparing my wedding makeup to the makeup she did on Saturday (screenshotting and sending old Instagram posts of mine). It's very clear she took this very personal when it's not. I paid $95 for her to do my makeup and it's just that I paid for a service that I didn't get what I should have gotten. And it's very clear that my makeup doesn't look good. She was very unprofessional and aggressive towards me and as someone who runs their own business you don't think would have handled the situation like this. I am sharing my story because I think it's unfair that she would only refund me if I agreed to sign a non disclosure agreement keeping me from talking about my experience and writing a review. I hope no one else has to go through something like this because it's very unfortunate it had to end like this. I made a review on Facebook and Vagaro as well because this situation could have been handled so differently but unfortunately it wasn't. After she blocked me and I left the reviews she even went as far as posting about me on her social media calling me "a terrorist", "unhinged", "crazy", "jealous of her business"... Horrendous. Worth the read. The woman that runs this salon is a joke. We inquired about a spray tan bridal package and confirmed a day and some times for the bride and bridesmaids (4 of us total). A few days before our appointments, we reached out to confirm and the woman had no recollection of the initial conversation where we set up the spray tan appmts. We also referenced a discounted package listed on her website for bridal parties but she said that it doesn't apply bc the website is outdated and she hasn't been able to change it (the prices listed are also incorrect FYI). Then, on the day of, one of the bridesmaids was in a terrible car accident ON HER WAY to the appointment so the bride called to let this woman know that the one bridesmaid wouldn't be there and the bride had to cancel her own appmt as well so she could rush to the hospital. The "owner" then told the bride she going to cancel the other two bridesmaids appointments, even though both of the other girls could make it! The bride told her to keep those two other appointments but before she knew it, the bride received a cancellation notice. This woman was a DISASTER to work with from the start and her lack of empathy and professionalism is just embarrassing. I have no doubt that she paid for all these recent 5-star reviews because there is no way she deserves any type of praise. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more
