I've been a client for 6 years utilizing a multitude of services at WTC on a regular cadence. I missed an appointment last week due to my son being in a car accident (you can no longer cancel in the app and have to call). I received a bill for half of my service despite the fact that I've not missed a single appointment in 6 years! Oftentimes the cerologists run late, or they cancel on me. I called to cancel an upcoming appointment today and raised my concerns and was hung up on! I am a polite, reasonable person and was simply voicing my point of view. Unprofessional, and I won't be back. I hope the $12 was worth it, I spend around $1k per year at WTC. The cerologist I saw, Emily, was wonderful and sweet, but the management and front desk staff have left me feeling the need the cancel this business. Traveled out to Oak Brook from the city to run an errand. Decided I wanted to squeeze in a brow wax and tint while out in the suburbs and saw great reviews for this place, so I stopped in. So glad I was able to do a walk-in on a Friday afternoon! I haven't had an eyebrow wax in about 3 years and in the past it has sometimes resulted in small cuts/burns, so I was a little nervous. But Jamie did a great job, the wax didn't hurt at all and she was mindful to not take off too much, since I don't have much to work with! Though most of the reviews were written by others who have less than 50 written reviews combined, I was willing to roll the dice given Waxing the City's "50% off your first service" promotion. And now I'm hooked. Admittedly, my initial encounter was slightly discouraging but it has been smooth sailing ever since. The waxing services are similar to that of waxing salons of this caliber and price point, but its location, decor and staff members separate this place from its competitors. My cerologist Justyna did a fabulous job! She is extremely attentive, knowledgeable and genuine. During my first visit, she offered several post care tips and complimentary water during the service. Loved her so much that I booked my next appointment before leaving and received 10% off my next appointment. The salon uses hard wax for facial and bikini waxing. This is perfect for newbies and is less painful than soft wax and tape without question. The private waxing rooms are neat, nicely decorated, spacious and clean. Body waxing services are typically 45 minutes but can take less. Luckily for me, visits are usually 25-30 minutes. Suppose waxing for more 18 years or old age may have resulted in less hair growth. While it seems a bit odd, conversations about world news, current events and travel helps time fly by as well. I have also tried the brow tinting and lash tinting services. In my experience, the results on dark hair is less rewarding but may be ideal for those with light if not invisible brows or lashes. Suggestions for new clients: - phone in to book your appointment - arrive five to ten minutes early to complete the questionnaire and intake form. You are asked to complete a waiver during each visit. - bring cash; the gratuity envelopes are in a bowl at the receptionist desk. ....no cash? No problem. Um, ok, why haven't I reviewed this place? I first came to Waxing the City when Yelp had an event there. Then I started getting my eyebrows waxed here a few years ago and I never looked back. Long gone are the days of getting my eyebrows threaded and basically leaving crying, or hard wax ripping my skin off every time. These ladies take their time and know what they are doing. I went in for my very first Brazilian wax and Vanessa was amazing. I felt very comfortable and she provided tons of information and answered all of my questions. She also did an eyebrow tint that came out awesome. I already have my next appointment booked. They always have your best interests at heart and listen to you-- like the time I started using retin-a on the lower half of my face and we decided to wait to wax because of the thinness of my skin, or like when they switched lash dye products and realized I'd be way too sensitive for it-- both of these technically cost them business but they didn't want to cause me discomfort. This was my first time here .. I made an impose decision and said to myself let me get my eyebrows done .. so I made an appointment and went in . I showed the lady a pic of what I wanted and she said very quickly ok.. I also pointed out some flaws about my eyebrow just so she would be aware she said ok... I should have known this was going to end badly when she said I asked her did she put the tint on first before waxing and she said yes .... After it was done she showed me my brow and I know that is not the brow I showed her and she said if you wanted something like that we should have used henna .. I'm done this place is the worse place every. Take the silence as a run factor . Oh at the end I was asked was I satisfied and I said no .... I take the plunge and sign up for the Brazilian and under-arm service, needless to say, waxing is NOT for everyone... but my first time AND second time was not so great, yet I refused to be a quitter since the new growth period seemed shorter. WOW! I cant believe the countless times ive walked past this place on my way to Pearle Vision without noticing it. I found my new spot for waxing (: I came in and got an eyebrow wax with Katie. It had been about 5 months since I had my eyebrows done so they were really out of shape. I went into a room, it looked very modern and clean, which was comforting. I sat down and told her exactly what I wanted. She was so friendly and knowledgeable and explained the waxing process to me. I then lied down, she carefully waxed my brows and tweezed the little hairs that were too fine to be waxed. It was very painless and I loved the attention to detail that was given to my brows. From the moment I walked in and met Kim, I was totally impressed. Not only is the space beautiful, modern, and clean, but Kim really takes the time to explain every thing to you... There are things I learned that I never even knew before and I've been waxing for years! My first experience with hard wax was terrible so I was hesitant when I heard they use hard wax. I was booked with Semelia for my Brazilian and had consistent contact with someone from WTC to check to confirm my appointment either via phone call, SMS and email which is good because I always seem to forget. It was the BEST experience I have had in a long time. She explained the process, even though I have had wax services before, and told me that this will not be a quick in and out which is what I was fine with and hoping for. Prior to finding Waxing the City, I was getting my brows done at Benefit Brow counter. I wasn't comfortable getting my brows done in the open and I searched Yelp until I found this place. I took a leap of faith and I am SO HAPPY I did. The wax they use is "hard wax" so after applying, they pull the wax off without any paper or cloth. It is so painless compared to other waxes I've had. Semelia takes the time to cover up any redness at the end and fill in my brows. I always leave looking better than I came in. (Shout out to you girl, I wish you could do my brows for me everyday!) As far as getting a brazilian, my experience here was a 10/10. Going in for the first time was daunting and I did not know what to expect. Today is the day my life is forever changed. I've fallen in love with a Waxing studio. There have been times I have left my waxing service swearing I would never attempt another Brazilian in my life. Thankfully I've found Waxing the City which has changed my perspective from here on out. First things first, the studio was one of the cleanest I've ever been in. Kim greeted me as soon as I walked in and welcomed me to the studio with a friendly smile.
