Essentially, students can determine what they want from the class, whether it be a laid back, relaxing drawing session, or a three hour, intensive skills training. I've personally never taken any classes from her other instructors, but I've only heard good things. I strongly recommend learning Chinese painting from Ichen, as she is one of the best teachers around. Under her tutelage, I've been able to compete nationally and win awards for my paintings. Plus, she's a fantastic person and a joy to be around.

They provided guidance in composition, technique, color, etc. while motivating me to enter my art into competitions... ultimately which I won a few! Ryan, Ichen Art Academy's Artist in Residence, has provided me with fantastic support over the years. I got a perfect balance of instruction and freedom to allow for the full expression of my artistry. I never felt bored or unmotivated because the instructors constantly provide me with ideas and recommendations when I'm stuck. Took two classes here and had very different experiences…read more The first class I went to was a resin workshop with Punky Power Productions and it was fun, engaging, and interactive. The instructor was very fun and really willing to help out and inspire. 5 stars. The second workshop i took, just this Sunday, was not great at all. It was a mosaic class and it might as well have been self led. The instructor gave us a brief 3-5 min tutorial on how to place the tiles and then did nothing else except sorted tiles the whole time. She never came around to see how we were doing or if we needed help. We had to keep asking her to come over if we had a question and she didn't really offer too much. She never told us what color we could use, and kept coming over and collecting the extra tiles as we were working. She didn't help us finish up and left before we were done. It was super disappointing.

My 12 yr old daughter attends this studio and loves it. She's been to other structured/lesson-plan…read morestudios, but prefers this one because every student can choose their own project (vs everyone painting the same picture, for example) and she'll receive guidance throughout the creative process. In the past couple months, it's been neat to see her improvement in spatial perspective, shading, etc. When a finished project comes home, I enjoy her explanation of motivation and techniques - like other Yelpers have said, too bad I don't have the wall-space needed to display everything!

While it was fun, the works we saw were not much different from my girls could do on their own. Last year we discovered this art studio and from the very first drawing, we are amazed every time we see a new creation. The girls are really improving, and are taking their skills and use them at school too to get accolades from teachers and friends. We like that the class is 1.5 hours, enough time to run errands or take a break :). I really recommend Iryna and her studio, we are lucky to have this studio in our neighborhood.
