They also had a bucket of 5 beers for $15 with five beers to choose from. I ordered the double burger with onion rings. I forgot to take a picture but the double will not fit in your mouth! It was a decent burger and much bigger than I expected. My friend got the club sandwich and it looked impressive as well. We ended up shooting pool and chatting with some of the regulars and left in the wee hours of the morning. Melanie was hustling all night as the bartender and the cook. She was on top of it all night. We were in town to scuba dive and are on to our next destination, otherwise we would have returned. Great little dive bar. Friendly staff and locals. Decent bar food.

You can't see the bar from the dining room as you must walk through a door. The bar was nice with pads along the edge and hooks underneath to hang your purse. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I ordered fried fish which came with hushpuppies and fries. My lunch was deliscious! The fish was fresh and there was the perfect amount of breading (not too much). The straw fries were hot and yummy. I only ate half and took the rest home for dinner. There was a huge outdoor patio in the back. And both the dining room and patio had stages for live music. This spot had dive vibes but was super clean (even the bathroom). It's not far from the heart of downtown Live Oak and not far from the railroad tracks, either, of which you become quickly aware when a freight train passes by. Despite the small space, they have a pool table inside, a bar (of course) and that pool table doubles as a buffet table when they have potlucks and the like. There is apparently also an outdoor tiki bar area in the yard behind the building but I didn't go back there. Beer is the preferred spirit it seems and the crowd is about 99% locals, mostly middle-aged but some in their early to mid twenties. The theme therefore is country/biker to an extent but they were playing old hard rocks standards when I was there and then . . . something . . . not sure what it was, but some song I remember from the early 2000s that probably was Linkin Park or a band that copied Linkin Park. So aside from the B-list or C-list early 2000s blast from the past, a very cool and low-key bar in a very handy location in Live Oak.

I had looked at the map, and found the Simmer Down Lakeside Grill on the map in Lake Butler. Seeing as there are only two or three other places to go for food in town, I went for it.. I figured a nice view of the lake while eating a burger or something might be nice. Sadly this was not the case, at least not for this visit. The bar room where the view of the water is was shut down, and only the large restaurant where the buffet was served was available. No view of the water... just a venetian blind obscured view of the playground in Lakeside Park. I went for the buffet anyway, since I had already come this far and wanted to taste the food. It was your typical Southern comfort food... fried chicken (not bad), smoked sausage (also not bad), meatloaf (good, but I haven't had it in a while, so my opinion may be biased), mashed potatoes, corn, rice, etc. The mashed potatoes were a bit odd, because when I poured some gravy on them, they instantly soaked up the gravy which is not an effect I am accustomed to. The food isn't bad. It's not great, but it isn't bad. It fills the stomach and quells hunger. About halfway through my meal, they ran out of fried chicken and decided to switch over to chicken fingers... so I tried one. This was definitely a poor choice... better to just leave it off the menu at that point and go over to some other protein... I noted that as I was leaving, they were putting out pork chops, which would have been a nice thing to try as well. I would love to try the ala carte menu at some point, but only if the other half of the restaurant is open and you can see the water. That is one of their biggest selling points, and they aren't using it! An outdoor porch overlooking the water would also be nice.
