I don't know where to start but the soul food Mexican restaurant is a hell no I understand it's probably been there for years but no more the macaroni and cheese taste like they put lemon juice in it but beyond further investigation I believe that she's a spoiled the green beans that I got a hard like they haven't boiled it ain't cook it almost I don't know. The oxtails was not giving don't taste no seasoning the gravy is water powder more powder the rice is they just boil the rice they didn't add no salt pepper to nothing to none of this cornbread hard as a damn Rock. The lady service she helped us was okay A little bit of English. And Ambience of a restaurant is to go place don't sit down and eat the prices is over ridiculous $33 for oxtails rice nasty mac and cheese nasty green beans nasty cornbread and then they had a nerves to charge me $4 for a Snapple and never go back.

Walked in and was greeted by a very stunned man. He was like ..... that was odd. Then I asked for the fried catfish and he said they couldn't do that right now.....was unclear as to WHY it couldn't be done. That was also odd to me.... So I settled for the baked salmon with the Mac & yams. All food is buffet style so you'll be able to see the quality (minus the baked salmon) .... The mac was great. Everything else is lacking in quality and taste for my liking. I paid $27 for the this and I am sad it didn't hit like I wanted it to.

We've been there a couple of times the staff and the owner is really nice and friendly. The place is small but clean, We have ordered oxtails with rice, greens, cabbage, barbecue chicken and catfish. They only offer take out. But it's a nice little La gem.

After the LA Rams Football game, we stopped at Gloria's for some yummy food- Catfish dinner with cabbage and rice!

Note-- it's a small place, standing room only, so prepare to take to-go our Tailgate! Anyhow you do it, Enjoy...

Like many restaurants, they have had their ups and downs, but they are hanging on. We have bought the Family Special which is no longer a Sunday option, but on other days. For just under $50, we had a whole Baked Chicken, 3 sides and corn muffins. The Chicken is always well seasoned and cooked well. Our favorite sides are the Collard Greens, Yams and Black Eyed Peas. We had some friends and family over, so we purchased 2 Family Specials and some extra Corn Muffins. That was plenty for 7 adults and 2 children with a little leftovers. Although, we have had some negative experiences here previously, we still dine there by take-out mostly. The owner does listen to and reads reviews. That doesn't happen every.

Came here on a Friday for dinner around 6:15pm and were seated inside at a table right away. Service was quick, efficient, and friendly. The ambiance was nice, as well. That said, the food did not really live up to the hype. Particularly, the fried chicken was very dry. The baked chicken was quite a bit better, but the cornbread muffins were probably my favorite food item. If in the area, I'd still say this spot is worth checking out if you're curious. Just don't come in with super high expectations. Maybe we caught them on an off night.

But, you should honor your word. At 1:00 p.m. I ordered the Soul Bowl with Red Beans and Rice, and Greens. I also ordered the three piece catfish. The catfish was a little too salty for my taste. I enjoyed the Soul Bowl, except for the yams. I don't usually eat anyone's yams because of the strings in the yams, these were no different, they had strings, so I had to pick around them to ensure that I didn't eat the strings, for some reason they have always made me want to throw up. Other than the strings, the yams were good. The greens, red beans and rice, and Mac and Cheese were delicious. I'm glad I ordered two muffins because they are delicious, I wish I had ordered more. I will say they are better than other soul food joints that I have tried. I would order again, trying different items. Please forgive any typos, this was typed on a mobile device.

This area is not familiar to us at all, and we don't normally eat (for us) exotic cuisine. But, we were in the mood to try something new, so we stopped here. It's a colorful, cheerful little place. I think there are only like 4 tables. Apparently, it is mostly takeout. This became evident when our food was "served". We ordered a large two-meat plate and two large fried chicken plates. The two meats were "brown stew chicken" and curry goat. The meat is served in thick savory gravy/sauce. The "plates" are served with rice and fried plantains. The brown stew chicken was good. The curry goat was really good. Here's where the experience really veered sharply from our normal dining experience. The "plates" were served in takeout fold-over boxes with plastic forks. The meat itself was pretty much all adhered to bones. It was tender and delicious, but eating with our hands doesn't come naturally. So, I asked for a knife, and the sweet woman who takes the orders looked at me and said they don't have knives, and that we "just have to dig down into it". Indeed. She did give me a second plastic fork though, which I used. Nice workers. Authentic food. Huge portions. New experience which we all enjoyed.

Two Hommés is truly an absolute gem in Inglewood and I highly recommend coming here because of how they've blended West African, Mexican, West Asian, and American ingredients & flavours - the food is a lovely mix of feeling light & fresh, paired with more meaty (but not dense) options, and overall very delicous. Pro-tip: Make a reservation online through Resy - this restuarant qualifies for AmEx's Resy credit! Layout & seating: The front-door faces the main streetThere are high tables, bar seating, and low tables throughout the area. I haven't used their bathroom, so I can't speak to that. Parking: There's a free, public parking lot in the back that's shared with the school, so be mindful that you're not parking in designated spots during school hours. Other times, e.g., weekends, it's fair game. It thankfully has never been packed, so I have been able to grab a spot for myself. Accessibility: The door is a little heavy, but there are no steps to get inside from the street, so that's good. The inside can feel a little cramped. Ambiance: During the late afternoon, the sunlight filters and the entire dining area feels nice but not too bright. Service: Very prompt and attentive; friendly staff. What I've tried: Pre-Summer menu 1. Duck Dibi Ssam: Senegalese smoked lamb shoulder, bib lettuce, green Shito, pickle, and suya peanuts; $52 I love the combination of Senegalese and Korean dishes here to create this juicy duck dish. I do wish there was more Shito because the amount you get is not enough for the entire plate and extras have a cost. 2. Jollof Platter: Ghanaian jollof, bomb azz black beans, plaintains, arugula salad; sauces: Scallion, BBQ jerk, cilantro-lime cream; added on root beer braised short rib; $28 + 22 (protein add-on) Absolutley tender, fall-off-the-bone short rib in a rich mole-like root beer sauce. The jollof was well cooked - definitely parboiled before cooked off at the end with the seasoning & spices, and nicely smoked. The beans were simple, but I do remember tasting the bay leaves and seasoning. The plantains were soooo well cooked; crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. Summer menu 1. Suya Mushrooms and Greens: Oyster mushroom, snap peas, peanuts; $15 Absolutely scrumptious mix of suya, fresh & crunchy snap peas, and just smokey enough. I cannot stress how much everyone must try this dish, if nothing else on the menu. 2. This is, A Tasty Burger: Short rib, caramelised onions, pickles, cheddar, Gold-Coast BBQ sauce, fries; $23 Not heavy, but very filling and juicy; loved the BBQ sauce - I think there was mustard in there? Either way, the flavours were so "simple" yet flavourful. The meat felt "light", if that makes sense. 3. Lamb + White Bean Hummus: Flatbread, yassa onions, (ground) lamb bits; $21 The hummus felt very traditional Palestinian/Syrian and the ground lamb was delicious. The flatbread was reminiscent of the flatbreads from the Levant, Khubz Arabi or a type of pita - soft, pillowy, and perfect for hummus. 4. Smashed potatoes: Labneh, Lula Mae's chilli oil, fried rosemary; $15 This feels like their version of Batata Harra and it was nice; loved the fried rosemary and garlic - so crunchy and flavourful. Really rich & tangy labneh - I wonder if it's homemade or from a Lebanese store? 5. Drinks: Hommémade lemonade (jamaica) and Mocktail of the week Love the (spicy pineapple) Both drinks were well-made - a little tart, a litle sweet, and well mixed. My absolute favourite items have been the duck and the Suya Mushrooms and Greens; I cannot wait to go back and order more of the latter and try out the Big Fish, and finally try the desserts! My only issue is the noise; there's a TV that's on in the background, music playing overhead, and rather close seating to the next party (to the point that you can hear what they're saying rather clearly). Having a conversation is very difficult with all these competing sounds. Note: There is a time limit for parties of 4 or larger of 1.5 hours, so please be mindful as Two Hommés gets busy from opening to close.

I wrestled with writing this review precisely because it's Black-owned, but the experience spoke for itself. Ambience and service were positives: a warm greeting from Lonnel, sweet waitress, and a friendly bartender. However, beef was unavailable on the day despite Friday/Saturday promises, and the food failed to justify the price. A friend's fried chicken arrived raw--we know what cooked fried chicken should taste and look like, having eaten fried chicken plenty of times. The chef dismissed the concern and offered only a $5 discount, eroding trust in safety and quality. Overall, none of the dishes hit the mark. I was only in Cali for a short while, and this spot happened to be about 15 min down the street from where I was staying. Perfect location, and I was curious to see how Cali does soul food. From the first bite, it hit me Emotionally triggered as I was transported straight back to my childhood. It felt like I was sitting at the kitchen table in New Orleans, eating my nanny's candied yams, greens, macaroni, and fried chicken. The flavors had that deep, home-cooked love, that is not taken for granted or lost on me, so hats off to the cook! That kind of food doesn't just fill you up; it connects you,and to top it off, the drinks? Man, they serve that real deal kol-aid. The kind I used to drink as a kid. As I was eating, I started thinking about how food ties us to previous & future generations. It's wild how dishes once considered scraps i.e: greens, yams, cornbread, oxtails, are now sought out in restaurants just like this one. These meals are more than just food; they're stories of survival, resilience, and community. But I digress, I know y'all didn't come here for a history lesson in Black culture, so I'll leave it at that. Now, onto the standouts. The mac and cheese and yams? Easily the stars of the plate. I like my yams runny and solid, because I love mixing it with the cornbread. Sweet, savory, soft--that combo hits every time. The macaroni? Seasoned perfectly. Creamy, rich, and not bland like you sometimes get at other spots . That's rare, and I don't take it for granted. Overall, Soul Food Shack gave me more than just a good meal, it gave me a taste of home, miles away from where I grew up. If you're ever in Inglewood and need some food that feeds more than just your stomach, pull up, tap in, eat up.
