I honestly don't know how this place is still in business serving raw chicken. I ate here and noticed my chicken was not cooked all the way through, so I stopped eating it. I was completely disgusted, and shortly after eating I felt sick to my stomach. Buyer beware because serving food like this is unacceptable. I should've known something was off based on the owner's attitude alone. He was not welcoming, did not seem appreciative of customers coming into his establishment, and his clothes looked filthy and unprofessional. To make matters worse, they keep raw chicken sitting in a bin right next to the grill. No wonder I felt sick afterward. I've also tried coming here several times before, and they're always closed even though their hours say they open at 12 PM. This place deserves negative zero stars, not even 1. read more

This spot came up on my FYP on TikTok so I bookmarked it on Yelp and saw the high ratings. I so happened to be in the neighborhood so I stopped in. I was excited to try the food. Since I live far, I love checking off things when I'm in LA. The gentleman behind the counter, wasn't rude. But wasn't giving thrilled and happy to feed. Was almost a "hurry order and go" energy initially. Dry. No problem though, I waited I believe 15 minutes for (3) dinner plates. Sides: Mac and cheese, greens and yams and cornbread came with. About $64 . When I came back to up the food, I waited a bit longer, so I sat and worked a bit on my phones. the spirit of the gentleman, more upbeat, he offered me a drink for each meal for free. Sides first: Sweet potatoes: They looked like the can yams. They were pale and dry. Not sweet and goey. 2/10 Collards: Also dry, no pot liquor. Some may like that when traveling with food. Ironically, it seems there's oil put in them. you can see the oil and water droplets separating on the leaves. They aren't flavorless, there is some kind of hint of meat flavoring. Which is good. And I can tell they were cleaned very well. But overall they were very bland. Very hypertension friendly. You will want to add salt and seasoning of your own. 4/10 Mac and cheese: I liked the Mac and cheese, the cheese used was really good. The noodles, if cooked any longer would have been severely overcooked but because the Mac is like casserole the cheese held it together. 8.5/10 Cornbread: nice portion given. It's more on the cakey side for its bounciness. But it's crumbly. Softens very quick. For me, I do not like when cornbread turns into mush or cornmeal dough when I'm chewing it. 3/10 Chicken: for this to be the star of the show, I was very disappointed. Loved it was a huge portion (half chicken), it's visually appealing. But there was absolutely no flavor in this meat at al. The dark nor white pieces. A vinegar liquid dip is provided, which is tangy and interesting. But doesn't help the chickens overall dryness. I tolerated eating the wing and picking off the breast and leg attempting to find ways to enjoy it. Especially for $18 a plate. My boyfriend found his so dry it was inedible he wouldn't even let me try to resuscitate it by drowning it in mayo in a chicken salad . 0/10 read more

The wait was about 20 minutes but it was moving fast considering how many people ordered ahead of me. So the chicken was good, their sauce was tangy and I liked that as well. Their yams are so so good, they have the perfect level of sweet. The Mac and cheese was also good very cheesy. The red beans and rice have a bit of spice but I liked it very much. Greens: Perfectly seasoned, not too salty, and not swimming in juice. They were just right! Big Daddy does grilled bbq chicken and soul food sides like no other. The bird is grilled to crispy and juicy perfection and comes with a tomato-less bbq sauce. The second best mac and cheese in LA. First place is still Tev's IMO. BD is way more affordable though and arguably just as good. Great quality ingredients are going on here. I can not say the same for Dulan's and let's not even mention M&M, oh whoops! All the sides I've tried so far have been excellent. None of the sides have meat. The cornbread is divine and fluffy.
