Mac N Cheese & Rib Tips

My Sister and I participated in "The Crenshaw Mile" which started at Crenshaw & Slauson (Nipsey Hussle Square) and ended at Leimert Park. We were hungry and came across Tipsy Q on our search for some grub! Great me when I say, "The BEST MAC N CHEESE I've EVER had in my ENTIRE life!!"! I have been craving it ever since and will be back ASAP to get more. My pictures aren't great, but trust me, the food AND desserts were sooooo good. Unfortunately I didn't get pics of my Sister's food, but we'll be back soon so I'll take better pics! The owners are a husband and wife team and are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Thanks so much for your hospitality!

Ribs, brisket, mac and cheese and baked beans. Fyi... I had already eaten some of everything before picture was taken.

Hands down recommend this spot. I ordered (2) of the 2 meat combos (ribs and brisket), mac and cheese, baked beans and a side of potato salad. The meat fell off the bone and the brisket had just the right amount of fat that made the brisket melt in my mouth. I paid $35 for each of the plates which had good portions and well worth it. The service was excellent and the vibe in Leimert Park made it feel like you were with family and friends. 10/10 for me!! Fyi... this picture was taken after I had already eaten from it. I couldn't wait

This is worth waiting all week for. Get yourself to Leimert Park AFRICATOWN on Sunday for Chef Deeeeeeelicious BBQ. And the sides are what's up too. I could have made a whole meal out of those fresh Butterbeans. See you next Sunday!

Mention the name Dylan's and everyone in my family immediately says bring me something back it's not cheap either it can get pricey and make sure family hands you some cash for their food because I'm so not sharing. I'm a longtime customer 20+ years deep ever since they had restaurants in Marina Del Rey and Mr Dylan the dad ran it. I have literally eaten at every location they have and the restaurant on Crenshaw is my favorite. Located on a busy street with limited parking the area is crowded with people. I walk up and immediately start drooling the smell of soul food in the air is very intoxicating. my go to meal is almost always oxtails or fried chicken with a side of dressing greens macaroni and cheese potato salad and candied sweet potatoes. Here's what I ordered. Oxtails Tender and delicious smothered in gravy seasoned to perfection. 10/10 Dressing Thick fluffy and delicious just like my mom made. And drizzled with gravy it's the bomb. I0/10 Macaroni And Cheese It's good but needs a little more seasoning but it's still delicious. 8/10 Greens Tender perfection and seasoned very well. 8/10 Potato Salad Delicious it's a must have part of my meal I love it. 8/10 Candied Yams Tender buttery and sweet. 10/10 Last visit I had Yellow cake and chocolate frosting it's soo yummy. 10/10 I didn't get any this time and regretted it when I got home. lol It's always super crowded at Dylan's so be prepared to wait and believe you me it's definitely worth waiting for. I'm having a nice drive back home to Long Beach until next time. Just me Shawn C.

The staff were so friendly, always checking in to see if we needed anything, and also the owner even checked in. You really felt welcomed and cared for! It was busy on a Sunday and yet every person that I approached or came to help always smiled genuinely. Music and the place was so lovely. Although there was no designated parking for the restaurant, I was able to find parking right on the street! Would absolutely come back!!

I've ordered from Southern Soul several times and everything I had was packed with flavor and good portions. I recently did a catering order for work which consisisted of their glazed salmon, garlic butter salmon, mac and cheese, yams, cabbage, honey butter corn bread and the off the porch punch. Everything was fresh, hot, delicious like always, and the presentation was on point. Days later my team is still talking about how amazing the food was. They ate down and left no crumbs LOL! I've been here a few times and can also vouch for the Fried Chicken and Candied Yams. Most recently I ordered: the Salmon Bites plate, sides were Greens w/Smoked Turkey & Mac and Cheese, & it's comes with a very flavorful rice & a cornbread muffin. Salmon bites were NOT dry, just fried perfectly and seasoned well. The greens were so good, even the stems did not bother me because they were tender. Mac and cheese is really good in my opinion and the rice and cornbread just round it out well. Located in a ghost kitchen so very easy to miss if you drive by or do a pickup order, but trust it's worth it. Great food at a great price.

Some happy worker mixed with some that had some sour faces. I stayed because I was hungry and I wanted to try some Oxtails. It's a little tight in the place we were at a table near the restrooms and I usually don't like tables near those places. I did order the Oxtails and my date had smothered Chicken. Food was okay. They do give you small cornbread muffin but we got the cold ones and we told we would get more and they came as we were leaving. 1. Oxtails were good the smaller bones but that big one I feel someone had to see all of that fat on one side of it. It's was like a pocket of just fat. My sides were okay Greens, Mac and Cheese (a little salty) and the fried okra. Smothered chicken was good. The yams, dressing she enjoyed the cabbage had too much vinegar (sent them back). We both wanted to try the wings which were cooked pretty but when your bones are black the chicken is old. The Peach cobbler was horrible. All peaches and no crust. I believe crust is part of the dish. I'm not going back unless invited by the establishment.

The best soul food not in Grandma's kitchen…read more My family and I had a 5-star experience at this soon-to-be LA staple. We were greeted at the door by security, who opened it for every customer. His attitude was pleasant, and he had a genuine smile. Not one of those false demonstrations of civility. When you walk in, the smell of the food automatically turns you from hungry to excitedly starving. One of the keys to good food is the aroma from the kitchen. We were ushered to the back, Sunday Church pun intended. Our server got us wonderful drinks. Then we ordered our food, and when those soulful southern dishes arrived, it was the crown jewel of the experience. They looked as good as they tasted. We not only enjoyed the food, but Lonell came and chatted with us. He was genuinely concerned with the quality of our food and service, which was exceptional. On the way out, we asked for a picture and promised to come back whenever we are in the LA area. Please try this for yourself and post your favorite food.

I wrestled with writing this review precisely because it's Black-owned, but the experience spoke for itself. Ambience and service were positives: a warm greeting from Lonnel, sweet waitress, and a friendly bartender. However, beef was unavailable on the day despite Friday/Saturday promises, and the food failed to justify the price. A friend's fried chicken arrived raw--we know what cooked fried chicken should taste and look like, having eaten fried chicken plenty of times. The chef dismissed the concern and offered only a $5 discount, eroding trust in safety and quality. Overall, none of the dishes hit the mark. The hospitality was the bright spot; otherwise, the experience did not reflect the concept or value. I wouldn't return, but hope for improved consistency and safety. Giving it 1 Star for our waitress and the bartender.

Fried Chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. 2. Meatloaf with rice and gravy and cabbage. 3. Fried chicken dinner with greens, macaroni and cheese, and dressing with gravy. A guy at a nearby table mentioned that the chicken was overcooked but we requested a light fry and really enjoyed the chicken. The green beans were seasoned perfectly with sliced carrots and onions. The only two issues were the cabbage wasn't seasoned well and needed to be cooked longer. Also the cornbread was not sweet and was reheated in a microwave. Overall all of us enjoyed our meal! Plus the strawberry lemonade was delicious and not too sweet. If back in Cali, I'll be back!

Then finally came the next people, whose order took an exorbitant amount of time as well. I took note of the growing line behind me but figured it's a popular place and this is how it usually works here. I ordered the short rib lunch with collard greens and black eyed peas, with sweet potatoes as an extra side. The lady charged me for a dinner (bigger portions and more expensive), which I realized when I got my meal and looked at my credit card statement. I waited for 15 minutes at the pick up window before asking about my meal, and the guy said it's being packed up. Another 10 minutes, and the people behind me are picking up their meals and are noticing I haven't gotten mine yet. One of them says something. They say it's coming. After another 10 minutes I finally get my food, in a paper bag that is already soaked in grease to the point of it falling apart by the time I get to my car. There's something on their window saying they can't use plastic bags because of some law. I go to a liquor store and buy some plastic bags so this grease doesn't get all over my car. I look in the bag, everything is leaking all over everything, and the 2 cornbreads that come with the meal are nowhere to be seen. I drive BACK to the place, wait 5 minutes for someone to show up at the back window, and ask for the cornbread that was supposed to come with my meal. This is now going on an hour from the time I placed my order. They finally get them to me. I drive to my destination, and begin eating. Black eyed peas are delicious. Collard greens are delicious. Cornbread is wonderful, but really greasy. I dig into the short rib - which by the way I paid $30 for. It's literally 80% gristle and fat. There is almost no meat. I'm trying to find the little tiny bits of meat in the generous portion of meat and am coming up with basically fat. Most of it is getting spit out. I pays for meat, not fat. Lesson learned. I will come back but only for sides and if I'm adventurous I'll try the baked fish or something though that also scares me after this questionable experience. It's obvious they bought the cheapest meat they could, didn't trim it, charged a lot for it and sold it at a price that would warrant high quality meat. The flavor was great but I paid for meat, not throw away chewy gristle. Like I said, I will come back but will most likely order only sides, as they are really good.
