Mac N Cheese & Rib Tips

My Sister and I participated in "The Crenshaw Mile" which started at Crenshaw & Slauson (Nipsey Hussle Square) and ended at Leimert Park. We were hungry and came across Tipsy Q on our search for some grub! Great me when I say, "The BEST MAC N CHEESE I've EVER had in my ENTIRE life!!"! I have been craving it ever since and will be back ASAP to get more. My pictures aren't great, but trust me, the food AND desserts were sooooo good. Unfortunately I didn't get pics of my Sister's food, but we'll be back soon so I'll take better pics! The owners are a husband and wife team and are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Thanks so much for your hospitality!

Ribs, brisket, mac and cheese and baked beans. Fyi... I had already eaten some of everything before picture was taken.

Hands down recommend this spot. I ordered (2) of the 2 meat combos (ribs and brisket), mac and cheese, baked beans and a side of potato salad. The meat fell off the bone and the brisket had just the right amount of fat that made the brisket melt in my mouth. I paid $35 for each of the plates which had good portions and well worth it. The service was excellent and the vibe in Leimert Park made it feel like you were with family and friends. 10/10 for me!! Fyi... this picture was taken after I had already eaten from it. I couldn't wait

This is worth waiting all week for. Get yourself to Leimert Park AFRICATOWN on Sunday for Chef Deeeeeeelicious BBQ. And the sides are what's up too. I could have made a whole meal out of those fresh Butterbeans. See you next Sunday!

Phenomenal food and service. Some of the best BBQ in Los Angeles County! I'll definitely be coming back every time in the area.

She's been going to this location for years! Veggie Plate | You select 3 sides, which arrives alongside 2 pieces of cornbread! I usually select my 3 favorites! Something New | On my most recent visit, I tried the Rosemary Glazed Salmon! New flavor, tasty & freshly made; know that it will take 25 minutes to cook! My favorites are still Baked Salmon & Fried Fish! All three are flavorful, tender & mouthwatering! Cornbread | Honey buttered, sweet & savory! It's an absolute must! That cornbread is a full-on win! Absolutely delicious! One bite is not enough, as another bite easily follows! Haha! Sweet Tea | Delicious, sweet & refreshing! Yum! Customer Service | Excellent, friendly & helpful with the menu! We even had a few laughs! Hahaha! There was also an amazing guy who checked on us constantly! I handed him a tip as we left! He was awesome! Seating | It was my first time returning since the remodel; it's been years! I was amazed! The restaurant is so spacious, loved the personal images framed on the walks, the artwork & the whole vibe was amazing! We dined inside & I found myself constantly looking around!! There is also outside seating on the patio! Fun Note | Years ago, friends had attended an event! Dulan's was amongst the food served! Afterwards, my friends stopped by my place with a plate, just so I could try it! Haha! I was amazed at the first flavorful bite! I've also returned with friends & introduced others to Dulan's over the years! Overall | Yes, please! Upbeat environment, flavorful dishes & excellent customer service! It's a win! Let's go!

I love jerk chicken, and Tev's has what might be the best jerk chicken I've ever had. It's not your typical fall-off-the-bone style. It's more like grilled chicken thighs, but they're incredibly tender and packed with smoky, sweet flavor. So good. And everything Tev's puts on your plate is top-notch. High-quality ingredients, great portions, and absolutely worth the price. The patio out back is great too. It has that big family backyard gathering kind of feel. Will I be back? Absolutely. My only complaint is that I don't live closer. I'd come every single week if I could!

Beloved Jamaican soul food spot located in Vermont Square (area of Los Angeles close to Inglewood/…read moreBaldwin Hills). It was my first and only visit (so far) and someone in line told me that they change their menu depending on the day. When I was there, they had oxtail and that's what I wanted! It's not necessarily cheap but it was definitely worth it. It came with Mac and cheese, rice and peas, cabbage, and a drink. And there was so much food it lasted me at least 2 meals and of I could remember correctly, maybe 3? The food was flavorful - well seasoned and prepared well. In order to order food you stand in a line - possibly starting outside - and you eventually come up to a window where you order and you pay. You then wait. It seems like they're cooking and preparing an meal so just know it may take some time. Especially if they're busy.

He was very friendly and told me to wait until 1:00 p.m. to place my order and offered to include a free punch with my order, which I did not receive, not a big deal because I did not pay for it. But, you should honor your word. At 1:00 p.m. I ordered the Soul Bowl with Red Beans and Rice, and Greens. I also ordered the three piece catfish. The catfish was a little too salty for my taste. I enjoyed the Soul Bowl, except for the yams. I don't usually eat anyone's yams because of the strings in the yams, these were no different, they had strings, so I had to pick around them to ensure that I didn't eat the strings, for some reason they have always made me want to throw up. Other than the strings, the yams were good. The greens, red beans and rice, and Mac and Cheese were delicious. I'm glad I ordered two muffins because they are delicious, I wish I had ordered more. I will say they are better than other soul food joints that I have tried. I would order again, trying different items. Please forgive any typos, this was typed on a mobile device.

The level of authenticity can be felt the moment you walk in. Every patron of the restaurant can be seen expressively enjoying their food. When you order a main protein, it comes with your choice of three sides & ofc their famous cornbread muffins. All the food is insanely filling so prepare to take home leftovers. * Beef Links 10/10: A massive, spicy beef sausage on top of a soft & fresh slice of white bread. It can't get any better. It stayed hot throughout my meal & was appreciated so much. That is f***g good. * Cornbread muffins 10/10: DELICIOUSLY served as an appetizer before your meal comes out. Comes fresh & hot with a side of sweet/cinnamon butter. It's perfect. * 8 Pc Wings 10/10: Seriously the best wings I've ever had in my life. Soul food restaurants know exactly how to coat the wings so that they become insanely crispy when fried. That aside, the Hot Honey seasoning was especially flavorful & mouthwatering. *Mac n Cheese 9/10: This is my style Mac. Not too ooey-gooey wet but just a perfect amount of cheese & roux. One point off because it has a smokey taste which just isn't my preference. * Candied Yams 11/10: MY GAWWWD. I'm in heaven. If you like very sweet potato's paired with a perfect buttery cinnamon dressing, then step right up. These are insane. I'm obsessed with that type of thing. *Greens w Turkey 3/10: Was not the biggest fan of this side. The flavor of the turkey overpowered the whole dish. The greens clearly basked with the turkey rather than just being placed together. I couldn't taste the greens, just meat flavoring. * Cabbage 7/10: I love cabbage. This side isn't anything crazy, it's a very simple thing for you to pair with whatever you ordered. Every meal needs one side that rlly holds it down. *Fried Okra 12/10: Seriously, you cannot get soul food without trying fried okra. This is just amazing. Perfectly crispy & delicious.

Everything always from scratch. Everything. We had a table of 6, celebrating niece going back to Spelman College for her junior year. We ordered a ton of food. Each meal comes with three sides. Portions are generous. I had the salmon croquettes, black eyed peas, red beans, and rice & gravy (to go w my croqs) The red beans and the black eyed peas, were delicious. Cooked perfectly, seasoned really well, and the right amount of liquid base. I also had a bit of my mom's greens--and they were GOOD!!! BUT! Not so fast (in my Columbo voice). The salmon croquettes, were not croquetting. There was no flavor. None. Except for the natural salmon taste. The patties were too thick, there was no discernible seasoning, and no onion or green peppers at all. It was like eating a salmon burger, as opposed to a croquette. AND I LOOOOOVE CROQUETTES. Mom's pork chop was okay at best. It didn't taste like anything, was a lil over cooked and a tad tough. But lacked seasoning. Nephew's catfish was tasty. Aunt said her short ribs were good. Niece had wings and shrimp combo, and said they were okay, not great. Peach cobbler was good. Yams too soupy. Dressing was so drowned in gravy, we forgot it was dressing. So, mixed day at Annies. We had issues with the proteins. The veggies and legumes were deliciously spot on. I commented that if I ever end up back, I'll just get red beans, black eyeds, and some greens. Soul food has to be seasoned well. Has to. Croquettes have to have onions, green peppers, or is just a salmon patty. I took a pic of my leftovers. The meal started w 3 croqs. I ate one there. Broke this one open to show y'all the MEH-ness. Oh! GREAT STAFF! Everyone was awesome. I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars, overall. Halfway there.

I wrestled with writing this review precisely because it's Black-owned, but the experience spoke for itself. Ambience and service were positives: a warm greeting from Lonnel, sweet waitress, and a friendly bartender. However, beef was unavailable on the day despite Friday/Saturday promises, and the food failed to justify the price. A friend's fried chicken arrived raw--we know what cooked fried chicken should taste and look like, having eaten fried chicken plenty of times. The chef dismissed the concern and offered only a $5 discount, eroding trust in safety and quality. Overall, none of the dishes hit the mark. The hospitality was the bright spot; otherwise, the experience did not reflect the concept or value. I wouldn't return, but hope for improved consistency and safety. Giving it 1 Star for our waitress and the bartender.
