I saw the lady with her teen daughters squirming, because it was blaring. They scream over your head to talk to each other. If your going for super cheap no matter what, then this is your place. If you want a nice calm experience forget it. It's packed, the brushes are dirty, the baseboard literally fell off when somebody leaned on it. They jacked up my bangs. Terrible service by unlicensed women. I went there to get my hair bleached and dyed this past Sunday and was burned severely by the chemicals used on my scalp. The women inside doing hair are the most unprofessional I have ever seen. I had to go to the hospital and now I am forced to take antibiotics four times a day until this goes away. What's worse is that when I brought all of this to the owners attention she repeatedly told me that it was "normal" and that if I wanted to take it to court I could bc nothing would happen and that "no one forced the money out of my wallet". They had no remorse for their actions whatsoever and declined my request for a refund. The dr. Said there is a possibility my hair might fall out. I have reported them to the BBB! I'm just going to start off by saying this is the worst place in my opinion. Before paying, the lady said referring to me "all she does is just sit there and do nothing" acting like I wouldn't be able to hear her. What else am I supposed to do? I'm over here waiting while she's finishing a client's hair. She complained about how the other hairdressers did not attend me because I do not tip them and that she was the only one who paid attention to me. Mind you, I paid tip to this other lady last time I came but now I'm glad I will not do it again. I find that so unprofessional and disrespectful. It is extremely absurd and the audacity that she has making me seem like I'm the bad guy by not tipping. I don't understand why tip is mandatory. While she's blow drying my hair, once again, complaining on the texture of my hair being too thick and "it's taking so long to finish". This is their job, why are they complaining? Also, I've noticed when I enter the salon her whole face changes to an expression of annoyance. Just the fact all of that together, they do not deserve a tip from me. I started coming here because they give affordable blowouts and because they are close to where I live. However on my last visit, one of the hairstylists were rude to me. As she was blowdrying my hair she audacity to ask me if I work and then asked how much I tipped the other hairdressers in the past (20% and sometimes a bit more) and then told me that's the reason why the other hairdressers didn't want to style my hair that day. Congratulations, you just lost a client. FWI, they don't always do a great job at giving blowouts and they're sometimes rough with my hair. Many of them were also purposely taking long with their clients so that they wouldn't be stuck doing my hair. They left my hair relaxer in for too long & then when they went to rinse it off they rinsed it with vinegar! So Gloria Salon doesn't have any glorious reviews on yelp and I get it why. Its not a fancy salon, its big and crowded.They have a dozen employees and over 2 dozen customers and their 4 dozen kids hanging around.They don't speak much of English and Carlos the cool money guy(speaks good english) who is Gloria's son sits there with his headphones on and jamming his head to the music. But once you get over all these not so glorious things and get down to business you realize its not that bad after all.I decided to take my daughter here for a haircut (I thought I would take chances with her first..lol), because couple of other places were closed and my daughter was insistent she gets a haircut before resuming school.So here we were.Our wait time was less than 5 minutes.Lou manged to understand what I wanted for my daughter and was very kind and kept saying Que Linda to my daughter every 5 mins and I agreed.She gave her an amazing cut with blow dry and it only cost me $22+ tip. Its a Dominican hair salon.They are known for giving good blow drys given the texture of their hair.They are also known to be talkative and kinda loud.As long as I don't have to sit there for hours I honestly don't mind getting a great job done at such low price. They have weekday specials for blow dry for under $15 I think and they are open every single day from 8 to 8. Gloria who is the owner is the sweetest Dominican lady ever. The actual salon isn't the most sophisticated hair salon but if you're looking for a quick, good & cheap blow out. This is it! If you're from hudson county most likely you know about this place. Now you do have to be careful who does your hair... A lot of the ladies sometimes can end up burning your hair. I like to come here because since my hair is long they don't charge you extra for the length of your hair like most places do. If you don't speak Spanish I suggest you come with someone who does..just so you can explain how you would like your hair to be done. They usually will ask you if you want your hair up or down meaning the ends. As far as cuts and hair dyes I'm not too sure since I don't dye my hair and get it cut by only one person I trust with cutting my hair. Before they blow out your hair they will wash your hair with a generic shampoo & conditioner but if you'd like you can come with your hair washed already or bring your own shampoo & conditioner which is what I usually do since if I use other shampoos it makes my hair very dry. I do know however whatever brand they use smells really good ! Parking sucks.. Since there's only street parking and on some days you have to make sure you don't park on the side that the street cleaner is passing by..As far as payment most people pay cash since is so cheap.. This is where I go when I'm suuuuper tight on cash. I truck it all the way from Brooklyn. Some of these girls do hair really well. Others be careful they can damage it. Don't ever let them do extensions in your hair (paid $200 for them two years ago n had to take them out a week later coz the girl bought cheap crappy hair AND did them wrong. ) ALSO, don't let them dye your hair both me and my grams dyed our hair there once n within two weeks it washed out. I was about to make an appointment at Up and Out in Hoboken when I remembered that I was broke and can't afford to pay $40 for a blowout. So I dug deep into my Hudson County roots and texted my sister to ask her the name of the place she is always telling me to go to for a blowout. I went Saturday around 5pm. I was taken right away by the girl who asked if my hair was clean or not. She washed my hair, sure it wasn't the most relaxing and soothing wash, but it was a wash. While she washed she asked me "do you want your hair up or down " ... of course in Spanish ... to which i said "huh" but what they mean is do you want the ends curled in our out. I told her what I wanted (in) and she got straight to work, all while yelling across the room at her colleagues and talking mad nonsense with the older Dominican man in charge of the money. They talked a lot of nonsense, I just ignored them, as you should to. It's especially in the nature of the money man as I call him to make jokes. Again, nothing offensive, things like "Wow, if you don't have a boyfriend, you'll get one tonight for sure with that hair" lol When you're done you pay the money man, and then you remember to go tip the girl who has probably done a nice job. Be warned, this place is on 22nd st. and Summit, this is not the classiest of areas, but theres nothing scary about this area either. It's hudson county at its roots, not the hudson county of the brochures. The place itself is just like the area, totally no frills, not fancy at all.. You're there for a purpose, to get your hair blwon out. And at $14 on a weekend, they'll do a hell of an amazing job. It's Monday night, and my hair still has another day in it. Oh, yeah, if you don't speak Spanish, this will be the culture shock of a lifetime. I don't suggest going alone without the ability to communicate. If you mind being publicly scorned to give a 100% tip, then this may not be the place for you. Blow outs are $10. I tried giving a 50% tip to which the woman who did my hair then proceeded to talk about me in Spanish thinking I couldn't understand. Another employee across the salon chimes in and tells me how beautiful my hair looks and asked "how could you not give a whole $10 tip when she did such a beautiful job". She then tells me it's the holidays and that I should give more. I'm reasonable and asked how much the service was worth without the $10 sale so I could tip accordingly. They tell me "oh no, it's always $10." Essentially, I was pressured into giving a 100% tip after being ridiculed in public just so that they would shut up. To be clear, they went on for at least 2 whole minutes on why I should be giving them a 100% tip. I've worked in service for 4 years and have depended on tips. I know what it's like. But if I make the decision to work in a place that I know is cheaper, I know I will not be getting the same tips as a place who charges more considering you tip according to price and quality of service. The place was filthy, the brushes they used were filthy and had tons of hair in them. There is no reason why I should be pressured into tipping 100% of what I paid to get my hair done as well as publicly scorned and told what to do with my hard earned money. Especially at a place as disgusting as this one. In my 4 years of serving, I have never publicly tried to embarrass someone to give me more money. Classless.
