For the past three years, Blanca has consistently been rude to me, and last night was by far the most embarrassing experience yet. Great place for nails in Jersey city. I tried all other spas in that area and still would prefer A1amongst others. This is mainly due to the cleanliness of the place and their friendly staff. They removed my gel paint and told me they will charge and extra 10$ for that! No one told That to me before! Also for pedicures, to clean your feet they'll charge extra 15$, so if you don't get that whole package the pedis are done under 10 Minutes. Price for gel mani is 38$, for normal is 25+ 10 for clean up your previous gel. I thought it wasn't that great. I really wanted to like (and go back) to this place as it is only walking distance from our apartment especially because we've just moved to JC. My dip powdered mani and regular pedicure cost around $101 including tip which was a bit pricy for me personally. I lived in Mahwah previously and was really happy with the nail salon I went to over there and I'd pay about the same for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. With the pedicure, they really pampered their customers with the cleaning and massage process and really took the time to make it feel like a treatment. For the pedicure I received here, it was okay but it seemed rushed and I didn't feel too taken care of. For the dip powdered manicure, the nail technician was SO rough with my cuticles that they had turned very sore at the end which also caused some bleeding. At the moment, my cuticles are all peeling. Additionally, I had just gotten my nails done two days ago and my index nail is already cracking. The establishment was clean on the other hand, and the ladies seemed polite -- but I won't be coming back as I'm pretty scared to endure the nail / cuticle cleaning process again lol. read more

I had a great experience here! I got a gel pedicure which came out great, the color is so beautiful. I showed up a couple minutes before my appointment started and I did not have to wait at all. The service was super quick, I was in and out in 25 minutes! My feet tend to get really dry in the winter so the scrubbing/exfoliating part of pedicures can sometimes be painful but the technician who was helping me was really gentle and my feet feel great! Found this nail salon and loved finding out that this was asian and black owned small business! The inside is super bright and filled with plants and feels super clean so it feels so pleasant while getting your nails done. I called ahead to make a reservation. They were organized and even though there was a delay, they constantly followed up with me and checked in with me. I got a french manicure and it was a very fair price. It took a few times to get it right, but they were willing to fix it and take their time. They will even strike a conversation so you feel great about the experience. Service is hands down 5 on 5. They also have a great collection of gel and regular colors. The salon is totally professional and service is great. You get the Manhattan feel in JC. Negatives now- They are expensive. You would be paying probably 20-30% more than other nail salons in the area. They also charge for any custom service such as removing gel paint from your last manicure. Gel manicure is $38 and classic pedicure is $30 + don't forget to add the 15% minimum tip. You may hear manicurists talking to each other in Spanish from time to time which could be slightly annoying if you don't know the language. So to get an acrylic fill it would have been $115 dollors FOR A FILL. Insane. This place definitely is not up to the proper health codes in NJ, I would seriously reconsider coming here. Not only was my tech going back and forth from myself to another client during our apparent double booked sessions, she was using the exact same tools on both of us. What was most alarming was when it was time to cut my nails/cuticles, the tech brought out a small glass cup with two cuticle clippers and a nail cutter sitting in this murky brown liquid. Sitting at the bottom of the glass I see what appears to be loads of cuticle skin (assuming from past clients). She reached for the cuticle cutter in the glass and I ask her what's in the cup. She responds "sanitizer" and I asked "what is that stuff at the bottom of the glass." She immediately looks at it, and runs in the back with the cup for a few minutes, comes back with a fresh glass of sanitizer and the same cuticle clippers. I said I didn't want to continue with the manicure and left after that. Really gross, I'll definitely be calling the NJ board of Cosmetology. read more

I had given this place a chance two times before & it was fine -- not amazing enough to leave a review but not bad enough to never come back. I came back today (on a Sunday) because I was desperate for a powder manicure and this is the only place in the JC downtown area that was open and provided powder. First and foremost, I was here for 2+ hours. Over two hours for a single manicure... WTF. Not only that but I'm not sure if my technician was even certified in her craft. I don't know Spanish, but she had another technician coming over to her after every move telling her that she was doing it wrong... atleast this is what I got out of it. It was super uncomfortable for me, especially with no one else in the salon at the time. To say I legitimately had to come home and fix my nails is not a joke. I left the salon with my nails stilllllll (!!) wet and with a goo-ey top coat that never dried (see picture). They also didn't know how to get the excess red around my nails from the powder off (????). I didn't even complain because honestly there was no point, but I warn anyone who wants to get a powder manicure here to be aware. Waste of a $50 and my time. They also don't have matching colors for regular and gel; and they have very few OPI gel options. 2) They are little pricey $$$ - They charged $38 for gel mani and $25 for regular pedi = $63 total without tip. I've been here twice, the first time was for gel manicure and it was really good; the second time was for gel extension manicure, and it was not that good, the shapes of the extensions are extremely wired and it's not straight smooth on the surface-it's wavy, and when I told the lady she said it's because she hasn't applied the top coat yet (it's not about the top coat at all!) And I was trying to have the lady do a snowflake design on 2 of my nails but she failed and ended up with white dots instead. I spent 3 hours there and had to go back home to re-shape them a bit for another 40 minutes with the nail file by myself in order to have them look better. I recommend to come here for gel manicure but maybe not gel extensions. read more

This is what they meant when you have to be careful of hidden fees. I called in for a gel manicure and powder removal, $38 for gel and $7 for removal. Didn't sound that expensive so I said yes even after reading the mixed yelp reviews. I come in and was sat down quick, everyone who has assisted me then were polite. I had a design in mind and was told it might not be the same concept that they were gonna do, I said yes anyway. During the removal and prep, the technician has made my fingers bleed 5 times (on different areas) and the worst part, before she cleaned it with a cotton pad she would scoop it out first with her nail. Look, I know they wash their hands before but really? She wasn't even wearing gloves either. Yes her nails were short but that is just unsanitary. Seriously. 2 and half hours later when my nails were done, I could feel my fingers bruised out. Another unsanitary thing is their curing lamp. You can literally see a silhouette of another hand in there like no one wipes the inside of it. My bill? $110. All because of the nail tips and two colors of gel. Did the technician tell me it was gonna be an additional? No. Was there any sign in the store that said it was $100? No. I would understand if it's because of the design that took long to do. Sure it's my fault for not asking but that's how you learn a lesson. Until now my fingers are stinging from any contact even with my good pain endurance (I have tattoos and piercings so I know). They have a huge collection of colors to choose from and all the women are so talented. When I get my gel manicure, it lasts over 2-weeks without chipping. Today I came in for the first and last time. I had a 7 PM appointment for a gel manicure and pedicure. I came 10 minutes early and was seated right away with Yumi to do my manicure. When picking my color, we discussed fixing my thumb nail for an extra $10 and putting designs on accent nails. Around 7:30, her next appointment came and she apologized to her because she claimed she lost track of time. Mind you, she just finished putting the base color on my nails. She then told me, "maybe we won't do the designs because my next customer is here.." She ended up doing it because it was just two fingers ($4 per finger). I was then asked to wait 10 minutes for my pedicure. While waiting, other patrons walked in for services. They were approached first before I was for a pedicure. If I had not said anything, I would've been overlooked. In total I paid $84. I tipped Yumi and the lady who did my pedicure with the singles I had in my wallet. I left the store and Yumi came running after me saying I did not tip her 15%. There was no sign stating the necessary amount to tip. I gave her another $10 because I just wanted to get out of there. With a downtown location, it's expected to pay downtown prices. However, they are a new salon, and you can tell by the service and quality of work. From the time I stepped foot in the door, I was rushed. Not even enough time to let me choose a gel color to match my toenail color. The older woman who did my gel manicure rushed the entire thing - I heard her mention she wanted to go home and spent the entire time talking to another client (in Korean, which I understand btw) about fixing her nail that was coming off. Anyhow, at the end of the manicure I told her it was messy. None of the color came to the edges and my cuticles were super jagged, so she aggressively asked me "which ones are messy?!" And I guess I didn't answer fast enough before she pulled out the dremel to literally grind everything off including a layer of my nails. It's SO unhealthy to do this to someone's nails, not to mention she didn't even ask if she could do it. She ended up hurting 2 of my fingers with the heat bc she was grinding so fast - I pulled my hand away, and she didn't even say sorry! My second gel manicure I chose a nude color to ensure that at least I can't see how terrible the work is. Needless to say I still can see how bad it is. Worst place ever! I walked in a few min before my appointment on 3/8 and was greeted by a guy doing a chair massage and then a lady who later I found out was the owner. She pointed to a couch and a girl started on my pedicure right away. The place is very clean and minimalistic. I don't know the person's name who did my feet, but she took her time. Two hours. My feet felt fantastic! May, the owner finished by putting on my shoes and socks, my coat and scarf and walking me to the door. She was very warm and friendly as were everyone else. I was offered water, they had soothing music playing and the place smelled delicious. I will definitely be back!! I loved it. I felt pampered and taken care of. OH! Wonderful mani/pedi today! I called earlier in the day to schedule an appointment and it was so easy. It was my first time at this salon and I am impressed! Finding quality nail salons in jersey city can be really difficult. While the prices are a bit higher, I do believe the quality and service compensate for that. The salon itself is bright and clean. The pedicure is worth the $30 which includes a hot stone massage (which was a nice surprise). The staff were all so nice and friendly in what felt like a truly genuine way. I went in with powder gel which had to be removed, one nail had to be fixed and another one had to be made all together.
