Glow Skin and Body is a salon specializing in skincare and waxes. I've only ever used their waxing services so that's what this review reflects. I usually get an appointment with Jamie who is kind, quick, and easy to talk to. The highlight here is that she gets the job done quickly, especially Brazilians and bikini waxes. For a $65 Brazilian that can be done in less than half an hour, you're getting a bargain. *That said, I will admit that the time it takes to do waxes varies based on your hair and skin type so the statement prior is specifically based on my experience.* The salon is clean and has a variety of skincare products that you can buy to take home with you which is convenient. It's also easy to navigate their website and make an appointment online either with your favorite esthetician, a female/male esthetician, or ANY esthetician. Additionally, their prices are just so competitive for the Bay Area. Lastly, they have their own little parking lot in addition to street parking on a fairly calm street so parking is easy to find. My only issue with Glow is that they don't always answer the phone or return messages. However, I think this might be more related to staffing issues and not so much that they're choosing not to answer the phone. Overall, I recommend Glow for your next wax! read more

I came here for a facial to help with postpartum skin issues and left feeling really disappointed. My main concern was clearing whiteheads and blackheads, but barely anything was extracted during the service. I even called afterward to share my concerns, hoping they would make it right. Unfortunately, instead of offering a fair resolution, they suggested I come back or offered only 25% back--which just isn't reasonable given the experience I had. As a mom of four, I don't have the time to keep coming back for something that should have been done properly the first time. Overall, this was a frustrating experience, and I won't be returning. Do not book on classpass. I booked a facial for Sunday. Got in my car and google maps told me the location is closed today. That's weird. Get to Glow. Checked my classpass app, the appointment disappeared. Apparently even though they are closed on Sundays, you can book an appointment for Sunday on classpass, only to get it cancelled. I came here recently for a waxing and massage at 8:00 AM on a Saturday morning. If you have never had anyone ripping hair off your body at 8:00 AM, I can tell you know now that you aren't missing a damn thing, That said, Jaime made the experience comfortable and quick. Comfortable and quick are two of the best things you can hope for when having a bikini wax. The room was clean and bright and completely what a waxing room should be. Next was the massage, which I am ashamed to say, made me start to snore and drool a little. So good. SO GOOD. The only criticism I have is that some of the furniture looks cheap and is being held up by concrete blocks. I'd rather see an up-cycled sideboard from Goodwill than a "modern" looking IKEA cabinet that is sitting on blocks. Seeing that the service was incredible, I will be back. I haven't been to see these lovely ladies in quite some time. I was in a pinch and found myself calling around to get my man brows trimmed and it came to me "Why haven't I called the ladies at Glow?" So, I hit them up this morning around 11 for a 12:15 appointment and wouldn't you know it, Beth was free in that time slot. When I strolled through the doors the receptionist greeted me with "hello Hector" and that was a nice touch. Yeah, I'm sure I was one of the few guys on the calendar today, but my ego loves to be stroked. Beth was very nice and she did a fantastic job! I must say, I have become much more high maintenance than I ever imagined, but it's nice to know there are ladies out there who are all about making sure I look good. I've been to Glow Skin & Body a few times for facials, peels, and an eyebrow wax. I have mixed feelings about Glow. The good: + The staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming. + The facility is clean, bright, and cheerful. + They use high quality skin care products. Room for improvement IMO: - As a salon with several estheticians, I've gotten conflicting advice from different people working there. I found it confusing. - They push their products, which are good, but expensive and some I've bought haven't been a match for my skin. - There was a lack of follow up for me. My skin had a adverse reaction to a product that I bought here. When I called, instead of the esthetician who saw me calling me back, the receptionist spoke with her and called me back and left me a voicemail message. I would've preferred hearing directly from the esthetician who saw me and originally sold me the product. Overall, I think Glow is a-okay, but I prefer the salons with one experienced esthetician who can give me consistent advice and follow up. read more

I went here for waxing. The waxing itself was very quick and I was pleased with the results. Also, it's inexpensive relative to some other places I've gone to. So why only 3 stars? I was grossed out by two things: 1) The lady kept on re-dipping the same waxing stick into the little pot of wax. Maybe at those temperatures all bacteria etc. is killed, but I just didn't like the thought of her reusing that wax for my eyebrows after the same wax may have been used on for a less visible region of somebody else's body. 2) At most places, they will replace the sheets/towels/whatever you are lying on. They didn't here. All they did was replace a little towel under your bottom. So A+ for waxing experiencing & price, D- for hygiene. read more

After Jen H left (a couple years ago), I drifted off to other salons for my waxing and skincare needs.... but now I'm back! I'm now seeing Beth and she's awesome. An esthetician elsewhere botched an eyebrow wax a month or so back, and basically removed half a brow. It didn't grow back that evenly and was extremely irritating to me. Beth managed to make the best of the brow-tastrophe and groomed it carefully but conservatively so I did not look like a freakshow during the regrowth. She's a brow genius and good with the wax in all areas; her waxing is fairly pain-free and very fast. I've also gotten a (pomegranate) peel and pumpkin enzyme facial from her. Both were amazing and went beyond expectations (read: extractions did not hurt). I also like that she is green and researched in her skincare product knowledge, although she never pushed the retail on me or made me feel pressured in any way. Big props to Beth! Glow has become my go-to place for eyebrow waxing and tinting, as well as the occasional facial. Jamie is my favorite esthetician - she does great work on my brows and offers a really relaxing, helpful facial. I've done both the Enzyme facial ($90) and the Mini-Glow ($65) and have found that there isn't much difference between the two and the mini suits my needs best. Minor appointments can be made at the last minute (I often call for my brows only two in advance) and they have plenty of parking. My one complaint about Glow is despite often having two receptionists, they always seem to be overwhelmed with calls and customers. I am often put on hold when I call to make an appointment, and it can sometimes take 5 minutes of waiting before checking out after a treatment. These inefficiencies haven't kept me from returning for their services, but they do keep me from making this a five star review. read more

I had my FIRST BRAZILIAN wax at GLOW. Best place for a BRAZILIAN so far... Great PRICES compare to other spas. I will never go back to shaving!!!! It's smooth and the hair grows finer each time. Guaranteed to please your significant other but most importantly yourself! Please ask for Cathy(she's one of the owner). She's wonderful, GENTLE and VERY professional and so so SWEET. They use the highest quality of honey and AZULENE wax. You don't even need numbing cream. And contrary to everyone's FEAR it is almost PAINLESS, at least the second time around. Been going here for about 4 months to get some lady maintenance done. I've been wondering if I could actually write a review for here...but then I thought I'd just get over my shyness about my "maintenance" and just scream to the Yelp rooftops about my love of this place. I must say the last spa I was going to get my waxes done were not as quick or tidy as Beth :) and they cost about the same and take 1/2 the time. Beth is by far my fave here at Glow. I wanna say that I've tried 4 different ladies here and all were great but Beth definitely takes the cake. It had been over 5 weeks since my last waxing and well, she had be in and out in 25 mins and with minimal pain. She definitely knows what she's doing and is so easy to talk to, so if you're someone who is a little shy about having someone down "there" working on you...she'll make you feel at ease (actually all of the wonderful ladies at Glow are great at this). A few months ago they had a massage special and I'm really sad that I missed out because I'm really anxious to try their other services. read more

Argh I am so torn about this place - it is almost frustrating. I am also surprised by all the 5 star reviews..... I was going to give a less than stellar review 5 months ago but decided to wait and try one more time. I have now visited twice and had 2 waxes (different estheticians) and an express facial so I think its fair to review them now. They have 3 types of bikini wax be sure you ask for clarification if you are unsure what is what - you dont want to get in there with them thinking Brazilian and you NOT thinking that. The prices are average and the girls tend to take A LOT off - they do a good job BUT the first time, the girl I had burned me pretty bad. It took about 5 days for the red burn lines and squares to go away. I was NOT happy. The second time, Ricki did a good job, no burns and very "thorough" HERE IS MY COMPLAINT - the entire waxing experience could be SO MUCH BETTER with the addition of 2 things that this place does not do or have: 1) Paper undies - they offer you to get totally naked or wear your own undies and they will move them around to get you waxed. WHY?! Why cant you give me disposable ones for when you get wax on me?! Now there is wax on my nice underwear! 2) For the love of god, why not leave a little cotton swab with wax remover/soother for me to get it out of my "areas" and/or sooth my burns before I change back. The express facial is just that VERY minimal. It is 45 minutes and includes all the norms: cleanse, mask, etc But without the pampering and massage. Great for someone who just wants a nice cleanse and be done with it. I've decided I will only come back here when desperate. Which is too bad because it is ridiculously close to my house. Their waiting area has some cute things but do not get suckered into buying the pumpkin exfoliant masque - its not very good. When planning my wedding in Palo Alto from afar (I was living in Monterey at the time), I needed to find a place to get some pre-wedding massages for my bridesmaids and myself. After talking to lots of spas on the phone, I found the receptionist at Glow to be very friendly and unlike other spas, she was happy to accommodate my girls and me and was able to get us all appointments at the same time which was so convenient. When we arrived, the location worried me a little (off of the main drag, in an almost industrial area) but once we walked inside, it was clean and serene. The decor is girly, pink, green and fun. The massage rooms are comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. They play the usual spa music in the background and have refreshments (water, etc) in the lobby area which is nice after your massage (I am always thirsty after a massage, dont know why). My massage was very nice. They had very cozy warm massage tables and used hot cloths on my feet which was so soothing. It would be 5 star worthy except the massage room I was in was near the front of the spa and I could hear people talking in the lobby, which took away some of the ambiance for me. If they did a better job soundproofing the door to the massage room, that would probably help. My girlfriends had massages in rooms down the hall and they said it was quiet for them....so if you are going ask for a room that isnt near the front door. Bottom line: Very cute day spa with super friendly staff. Great rates on massages too, only $76 for an hour! Don't be discouraged by the location, its really nice when you get inside! Where to begin? Well first Renza - Renza has been doing my brows exclusively (when I have lived in CA) for over 9 years. I first came to meet Renza before she helped co-found Glow and I have never looked back. Renza's positive spirit and laugh usually has me laughing while she is waxing away. I even used to come into town when I moved out of state and would book an appointment for a waxing and a facial with Renza. Now, I just see her (kinda like cheating if you go to someone else in my book lol) however on occasion when she has been on vacation I have had a few others - the rest of the crew is in a word fabulous! Wonderful place, fun, on trend and these ladies know how to wax. Always clean and ladies I know some of these posts have questioned hygiene - really? Do you think a kick-ass spa like this doesn't keep it clean - I doubt this many people would come if they were dirty or unclean - they are so not! I mean they are the masters of the Bikini waxes and yes have even done some celebrities in those brightly colored rooms too (I promised to never tell though)...:) So if you are looking for a new spot this is the place - its tucked away right off of El Camino - easy from the freeways because yes I come from the North - I would travel an hour to have Renza do my brows or give me a facial - she is that good. And over the years its only gotten better - my brows look fantastic and although I always go for waxing I have had other treatments which have been wonderful as well. Based on the yelp reviews, I went ahead and booked an underarm wax. I'm glad they had availability at the last minute. I saw Karen, she was nice, and did a good job. The location is meh, but whatever, I was going for waxing, not real estate. ;) When I left I was happy enough. I started driving to work, and then thought - what is that smell? Something stunk of rotten fruit. I pulled over to check if there was something decomposing in my car, but saw nothing. Then I sniffed at my shirt and arm. It was me! EWWWWW. Apparently the cream she applied after waxing is peach scented. :( :( I HATE the smell of peach creams. Why wasn't I asked? Why wasn't unscented used? Why is it so cold on this day that I must have the windows down to avoid the smell of myself?? By this time I didn't have the time (or desire) to drive back home and take a shower. So once I got to work, I ducked into the bathroom and scrubbed my underarms with paper towels and nasty pink soap. :( Not what I wanted to be doing. :( I don't think I'll be going back. The waxing was fine, the staff was pleasant, but the peach is a deal breaker. *** Edit to say I was contacted by Glow. They wanted to clarify they don't use peach, but use something with a jasmine scent. I LOVE jasmine. I use "Flying Fox" by LUSH daily - a jasmine body soap. What they put on me didn't smell of jasmine, but ok. I don't know - I appreciate that they cared enough to read the reviews & write, but the interaction left me feeling icky as well. I have the impression their feeling is "it's your fault you didn't say you don't like peach scent when you came in" rather than "sorry you were unhappy" or the esthetician asking "is this scent ok?" before applying it. Found this place with Yelp. Thanks Yelpers! First off, I was impressed that I called in around 2pm, asking for a Hot Stone Massage, and I was able to book one at 5:15pm. Plus points for that! I had called a couple other places, and they had no availability. I'm a fan of the Hot Stone Massage. It's great when you *really* want to relax, but don't want a lot of pressure. Jamie did a great job. I'm feeling super relaxed after a stressful summer. The price for the massage was average, not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. I took off one star because it can be pretty noisy. Thin walls, so you can hear people talking, I could hear the washing machines, and the air conditioner was very loud. If you're looking for a day spa (with all the fixings), not really the place for serenity. But if you want a good hot stone massage, I recommend this place. Although all the buzz is for the Brazilian wax, I decided to go for their facial peel. Their peel is one of the least expensive here in the area, so why not check it out. I had trouble finding an appointment that suits my schedule but their receptionist is accommodating enough to find me one. Their location is super convenient to where I work, big plus. Jennifer Roswel is great ... Unlike other esthetician who doesn't care what the hell they do to your skin, I love the fact that she took the time to examine my skin type, ask questions and recommend the best facial peel for my skin . The only downside is I can hear the Caltrain passing by while I am relaxing. Definitely distracting!!! Next time, I'll make sure to bring an earphone with me read more

Dear Glow - I miss you! I used to come to glow all the time for my Brazilian waxes and never had a problem. However, due to a recent house purchase, I've been trying to save some money and thus have been going wherever the Groupon type places take me. I haven't found a place that's as good as Glow. This place is tucked away in a San mateo neighborhood. The actual massage rooms were also cute-colorful too-the room I was in had a bright yellow wall-I loved it and felt very comfortable. My masseus was good-she asked me before she started if I wanted low-pressure, medium or high. I said "high" at first and she warned me it may not be comfortable. I liked that she asked. I came here today to buy a gift card for my mother. The receptionist was so so friendly and you can tell that all of the people who work there are great friends. I asked whether I should purchase the deep-tissue massage for my mother after asking a few questions and they were so kind and knowledgable--not pushy at all. The place is so calm and relaxing plus they even offer complimentary hot apple-cider. EDIT: I just got the one hour massage and it was HEAVENLY. It was so relaxing and they paid special attention to my scoliosis which felt amazing. My mother had an amazing time as well. I'm definitely going back. Also, their bathroom had feminine wipes.
