Terrible experience. The "custom" facial that I booked for my friend was hardly customized at all and was over in less than 25 minutes (when I booked it I was told it would last 60-90 minutes). Due to the fact that my friend had minimal breakouts, the woman doing her facial rudely explained that there was absolutely NOTHING she could do for her unless she paid $80+ more for an overpriced acne facial. She claimed this was because she would have to massage oils into her face that would exacerbate acne (who WOULDN'T break out if someone rubbed oil on their skin??!). I thought this all sounded more than a bit ridiculous considering the fact that people with perfect skin do NOT waste $90 on a facial and that this particular service was touted as "CUSTOM." She could have easily filled the remaining 40+ minutes applying a purifying mask, massaging shoulders, doing more extractions, and cleansing the face with a noncomedogenic product (tailoring this so called custom facial so it would work best for her particular skin type). The most deceptive part was that rather than stop then, the facialist decided to continue on with a extremely brief and poorly explained "treatment" that ended up costing the same as a facial despite the fact that it was not comparable in time, effort, amount of product, or comfort. My friend, at this point confused and embarrassed (she had never before been deemed unfit to receive a facial), texted me in shock after realizing the whole thing was over after being on the table for a mere 20 minutes. Though I had booked a facial immediately after, I ended up cancelling because I could not relax knowing that my friend had been hoodwinked and made to feel unwelcome there. read more

Go see this skin expert, Lisa! I never knew I could learn so much about my skin, in a two hour time period. This woman knows skin, acne and everything else in between. As we have only met once; I believe that all of her facials are not two hours long, only perhaps, the initial visit. Seeing her was the equivalent of seeing a doctor, with a heavy focus on what I would like to change, repair, brighten or get rid of. The way she operates is to ensure you have a plan with her, to get exactly what you want. She's caring, yet firm and will be frank with you about exactly what you need to do! Go see Lisa, but know that you may experience some slight pain.. in the facial peels and extractions, but will end up with amazing results! Like she told me today, "No pain, no gain!" I've gotten 4 facials here, and I was decently pleased, until this past week. I started seeing Angel back in April, and I kept going back for the next few months. She recommended all sorts of expensive products, but I trusted her and was convinced by her and the other spa employees that it would work. She seemed reasonably understanding of the fact that I didn't want to spend $500 per month on my face, although it ended up averaging about $250 per month. Something Angel told me that I found interesting... I asked if I could buy the same products at Sephora or other places since I don't live in Burlingame. She said they stop carrying products if Sephora has them because their customers try to comparison shop and get a better deal then. She said they'd stopped using some products that worked really well and were very popular because they aren't about being reasonably priced. It's all about the benjamins here. I should have gotten the hint... I got a call on Thursday of last week to confirm my Saturday appointment. In the voicemail, they told me the esthetician I'd been seeing before (Angel) is no longer with them. So they rescheduled me with someone else (didn't even tell me who). Turns out this new girl (Leandra) gave me contradictory advice on everything from how to use the same products to what type of treatments I should be getting (I should be getting more frequent more expensive treatments of course!). And to top it off, she convinced me I had to get this $100 serum. I'm not poor (I wouldn't have gotten monthly facials up until this week otherwise), but $100 for one ounce seems like a scam, and I feel betrayed. Random note: I'd never gotten extractions before, and I'm really glad I did, but they hurt. A lot. And make sure you don't have plans for that evening, since my face looked super blotchy and red when I went out for dinner later last night. Like I was embarrassed and would have put on a ton of makeup if I weren't afraid of destroying whatever benefits I should have been getting from this expensive and painful treatment. I'm also still trying to figure out why picking at acne yourself is bad but extractions are good... Also, make sure you book an appointment really far in advance. They aren't open on Sundays or evenings, and Saturdays fill up months in advance. To make it even worse, of the four appointments I had here, at least one was rescheduled by the esthetician because of a scheduling mix-up or something... I'll admit I think my skin looks a little bit better than it did 4 months ago. Although maybe I just spend a lot more time looking at it now. Either way, I don't think it's worth the well over $1000 spent and lots and lots of hours and that unpleasant feeling of buyer's remorse. Overall, if you have lots of extra money and enjoy being sold overpriced serums, this is a nice place. But if you'd rather be able to trust the esthetician's recommendations and feel valued beyond your credit card, look elsewhere. That's what I'm doing now. read more

3 things I absolutely love, a Friday off, slurpees from 7-11 (don't judge), and Jaime at Dermasolutions. I have never had a facial before and I am getting to the "age" where one needs to really start taking care of their skin. When I saw the Groupon for this facial, I didn't even hesitate, I immediately bought it. However, having never had a facial before, it took me quite a bit of time to work up the nerve to actually book the facial. Of course, by the time I got around to calling for an appointment, they were booked out past the expiration date of the Groupon. They graciously extended my Groupon for me and booked me with Jaime. Ok, here is the deal. I am nearing 40 but still get gnarly acne. It's not cool. I let it go for a long time, and finally my wife made me go in to Dermasolutions to see Lisa for acne treatments. Now, here is the deal. She has done a miraculous job with my acne. It's been so relieving for me. She really gets acne and has the tools and skill to take care of you (better than a dermatologist...really, i saw one of those too in my years of trying to solve this). Someone asked me if I its possible my acne was clearing up naturally and didn't need her. Actually, that is why I know she is good. If i don't go regularly, i break out big time. When I go, acne free...When I don't, acne full. Yes, its embarassing to talk about my zits online...but I know the feeling when you cant beat acne, so I feel like this recommendation is important. I bought a deal for Dermasolutions quite a long time ago and had a fantastic facial done by Leandra. She was very nice and attentive and she tried to deal with my milia extractions. Since then, I've tried to book an appointment on three separate occasions. I have called during their posted business hours and each time, I have left a message. I find it strange that no one answers the phone since the time I was actually there, there was a receptionist. Three messages, NO returned phone calls. Sad that their customer service is so lacking. They are losing business with this type of behaviour and as much as I enjoyed my one experience there, I doubt I will ever go back if they don't have the common courtesy to return a phone call. read more

I bought a facial gift card as a birthday gift for my BF. And I want him have a good experience, since it's his first facial experience. So although I receive 50% off ($45) for the price, I still tip her $20 in advance, which is a BIG mistake!! The front desk people were very nice, and they told me that the facial is about a hour or so. We arrived on time and they kept us waiting about 10-15 min, which is perfectly fine. I assumed my BF should receive at least a hour facial as they promised, but the facial only last less than 30 min. Yes, less than 30min!! WTF? After the facial, my BF said the experience is nice, that's why I still gave them two stars, but I feel really mad about they tried to skim the time. After all, facial is all about relax and pampering, how can you be relax if you tried to finish a hour session in less than 30 mins? read more

Lisa is awesome!! This is my first time here (Groupon), and it was an excellent experience. I wasn't a frequent spa-go-er until this experience, now I'm hooked! Lisa did exfoliation, extraction, mask, etc. She cleared up lots of blackheads without any scarring. She also removed the milia that were closest to the surface of the skin, and backed off of those that were too deep to avoid scarring. My face was pink and a little blotchy afterwards, but that went away in a few hours. It's been about 2 weeks, I'm approaching my period, and so far, no signs on massive pimple! I'm sure it will take more sessions to really maximize the benefits though. Lisa wrote out her recommendations for my skin care routine and product. I am not a "facial" person, and would not normally book a facial. I've had about two or three in my adult life (I'm 40) and they were not worth it to me -- for the money, I'd rather get a massage or an indulgent mani-pedi. That being said, I was invited by a friend of mine to use a groupon she bought, and I am so glad I did. Jamie was outstanding -- personable, fun, funny, knowledgable and professional. Being a facial novice, I asked a ton of questions, which she answered patiently and completely. The setting really *is* spa-like: soothing and atmospheric, complete with ambient music and relaxing decor. The front desk person who greeted us was very pleasant and inviting. We were on time for our appointments and we were seen promptly, but without feeling rushed. Jamie definitely took her time with my treatment and was thorough and attentive (she herself used the word "meticulous," and I agree!). I was pampered, relaxed and walked away refreshed and soothed. My skin has a lovely glow to it and feels smooth and soft. Finally, in my past (albeit limited) facial experiences, there was always a "bag" waiting for me when I got out -- generally an attempt to sell me most or all of the products used on my face, which frankly makes me feel really uncomfortable. This absolutely did not happen -- in fact Jamie simply said thank you and handed me a sample of one of the products she used. Went to Dermasolutions for their holiday charity event - we brought in gently used beauty products and you can have appetizers, cocktails and free make up advice and a gentle face massage. I quite enjoyed the vibe of the place and signed up for a 3 pack for facials. Leandra did my makeup and recommended a really pretty grey party eye for me to wear in time for the holiday season! I went to see Lisa the week after (my work schedule is pretty awesome) and she took a picture of my face to show the status of my face before the treatment. It was definitely a pleasant facial experience and I walked away with a lot of product but I also feel compelled to scrutinize my skin quite a bit. I don't know if I can afford the regimen of facials she prescribed but I will continue to see her and the jury's still out in terms of whether we can clear out all the stuff that is in my very dry skin. read more

I've decided to leave this spa a few months ago after Jaime their best esthetician left. Since Jan 2012, I was thinking about moving to a different spa, but I only stayed because Jaime so was great. I used to book appointments weeks in advance with Jaime. Like clock work, 1-2 weeks before my appointment, I would receive a call from the receptionist saying "There was a scheduling issue, well need you to come in at a different time or see a different esthetician." Thanks to Groupon I found my new place of serenity. My facial with Jamie was fantastic. She was personable without being too in your face. The treatments she used left my skin shiny, smooth and rejuvenated. The extractions were nothing compared to what I've had done in the past. She really took the time to get to know my skin type. I highly recommend this place! The best part was that it didn't feel like they were trying to sell me things. Sure they made recommendations of products that I should purchase, but I didn't feel like they were pressuring me to make any purchases that day. I drive about 45 miles to see Lisa @ Dermasolutions. It's worth the drive! She definitely knows skin in and out. You can tell she takes pride and passion in her work. Never pushing her products but instead educating you on what's best for your skin. I have to admit extraction is no fun but she reassures me it's needed. As always....I often send her a complimentary call the next day gloating on how great my skin look. Customer service is always on point. Im usually greeted with a nice cup of tea and they even add coins to my meter if needed. Ambiance is clean and modern. I highly recommend this place. read more

I've only ever had a few facials in my life and I never really understood why people made such a big deal about them. For me they hurt and seemed to make my skin break out more. After coming here I realized it was all about who gave you the facial that could make it great or awful. I decided to give them another shot for my up coming wedding. Best experience EVER!!! I started to go to Dermasolutions in 2004. Back then, I had acne on my face and Lisa did fantastic job on my skin. Since my acne was gone, I haven't gone to salon as much as I am supposed to. But recently I noticed some fine lines on my forehead and eye area. I went back to Lisa for help. WHAT A SMART MOVE I MADE! She did microdermabrasion on me and I always loved the smooth skin afterwards and I have noticed the fine lines are fading. Last time, about 3 weeks ago, for the first time, she did Micro Current around my eyes, FANTASTIC! Let's start with when u walk in. It's beautiful and super clean! I love the smell of this place. Been seen Lisa years a go from the old place, she is the best Esthetician I ever had and I have to tell you that I wouldn't go anywhere else. It's far for me driving from San Jose but really worth the drive! Lisa saved my skin, I didn't worried much before and always stayed in the sun without sunblock, got tons of brown spots and dead burnt skins sometimes I got small white pimples and she got rid of them. I never bother put in eyes cream cuz I never thought I would need but as u reached 35 trust me you do need them, I've been night cream on every day and it really works, I don't think I need Botox anytime soon ;) I don't know what else to say to this young lady Lisa, thanks so much for fixing my skin. My sister bought me a custom facial Living Social coupon for Dermasolutions for Christmas. When I finally had free time from school, I called them up and scheduled my appointment. When I called, I gave them a heads up that I had had a bad facial experience at another spa awhile back, and that I was nervous about getting another one. I let them know that I've struggled with acne throughout my teens, and I could tell that the women here were very understanding and helpful. When I first stepped in, I instantly felt welcomed. They offered me tea or water, which was really cool. Eventually the facial process began! I thought the custom facial would only last 45 minutes but mine lasted for about 11/2 hours! Super happy about that. I felt so clean, relaxed, and fresh afterwards. My mom even said that I was glowing. :) As we were leaving, my mom and I had a conversation with the receptionist and esthetician and they were so friendly. My mom was really happy with the results and even bought me the cleanser, serum, and mask they used during my facial. My acne has definitely subsided over these last few months (I still get occasional breakouts) but I am so happy with the experience, advice, and the products that I received at Dermasolutions. Sometimes I get waxing service, massage, laser treatment, makeup and so forth. The service is very professional. I also love some of the products - pineapple refining scrub, clarity serum, pure enzymes exfoliating mask - these are my "face savers". On my wedding day, I got my bridal makeup here also. I bought a groupon for dermasolutions and I'm SO happy I did: Jamie did spent more than an hour and a half working on my face, making me relaxed/ informing me about all my skin needs/ making sure I had the least painful extraction experience... girl definitely knows what she's about. And the price? $90 for an amazing facial is cheap!! (Plus they have some package deals which lop off an additional 10/ 20%) My experience with her was so amazing I CREATED a yelp account to praise her! I have been getting facials from Lisa for a year and a half. She is very friendly and takes time to get the best results. Lisa is very knowledgeable and informs you about the products she is using before applying them to your face. Since coming here, I feel my face has gotten so much clearer and healthier. I just had a facial with Jamie & Dermasolutions & I highly recommend her. First, the spa is really nice....not too big or small, clean & modern. I prefer a smaller place that doesn't feel impersonal or like a mill. Now to Jamie.....she has the perfect combination of being professional, yet approachable.
