I have been a client of Jen Yuki Olives for over 6 years now ... back when she was in San Carlos. If I could rate 6 stars, 7 stars, 8 stars, I would. Before I was a client of hers, I would only get facials once every quarter or once or twice a year. Now, I get them monthly because her facials are nothing like anything I have ever gotten before. Each facial is customized after she assesses my skin and talks me through her recommendations. Today, I had a facial AND a glycolic acid peel for the first time. She asked me every few minutes how it felt from 1 to 10. She was patient as my skin reacted from an 8 to 5 to 2. I love how educated she is and how she continues to learn about skincare and the European quality products that she uses on her clients. I have also bought the skincare line from her. It is high end and a little expensive (but aren't they all?), but they last a long time. Jen Yuki Olives is an amazing esthetician. She listens. She is thorough. She is gentle, yet her massage for the face, scalp, neck, shoulders and above the chest is strong and firm. She uses European quality skincare. She gives personalized care. You glow at the end. She's super experienced, adjusts procedures and services based on your specific skin concerns/needs, and is very clear regarding what she's doing and its purpose. She also gives you a massage as part of the experience, and honestly, her head/face/neck/shoulders massage was one of the better massages I've received and I wasn't even expecting it from my facial! Jen was amazing! It was literally the best facial I ever had. A lot of places feel very transactional but at The Zen Room, I felt very well taken care of from the minute I stepped in. We went over my skincare concerns, she took a look at my skin, and recommended a microdermabrasion, dermaplane, a brightening mask, and a light hydrafacial to finish. Throughout the facial, she also gave an amazing massage. Because it is a very small studio and it is just her, you really have all of her attention. She's very thorough, I wanted just hydrafacial but she upgraded me to extractions and some more treatment, I was glowing and my face was brighter after. Jen was incredible. She made the entire experience so relaxing and really puts 100% into taking care of her clients. I first went to her a few years ago when she was Le Charm Boutique and her hydrafacial had my skin absolutely GLOWING for my wedding day! I've followed her to her new The Zen Room location in San Mateo because she really is as good as it gets! It is so rare to find this level of quality of treatments and customer service and at a fair and affordable price. From start to finish she completely exceeds expectations. First, you can always tell she truly cares about your business and does her best to accommodate scheduling you in for a time that works best for you. She also has the most welcoming and wonderful energy, when you arrive you are treated as if you are her best and only client. There is a great balance of explaining the process and checking in to see how you are doing while also allowing you to fully relax and enjoy the experience. I havent had a facial in a while due to covid and when I drove up north I found this gem. I was hesistant to go at first but when i got there i felt safe. the place was super clean and sanitized too. jen asked me questions and did skin analysis and determined my skin type, condition and the kind of treatment i need. In my case she recommended exfoliation. This review is for the facial I had by Jen. This was my second time getting a facial and I was very pleased with the experience and result. Jen takes her time to explain every part of the experience, listens to your concerns, and answers all of your questions. The facial took about an hour from start to finish. The facility is COVID safe as all clients are required to wear masks, social distancing is enforced, and all common areas are UV sanitized. My primary concerns are acne, acne scarring, and combination (oily/dry skin). Jen recommended gentle skincare products and an acne gel by PCA skin. If you're looking for someone to help you maintain and/or improve your skin, Jen is your girl. I will be back! read more
