Second time around at this glow tea location and I still feel this place is on the pricey side for what you get but I had to give an updated review because this time I gave a milk tea a try and it was better than the regular tea. I got the brown sugar milk tea with chocolate added and the flavor was how I expected it to be... heavy milk and brown sugar flavor with just a little added sweetness from the chocolate sauce - it was pretty yummy ! I came today in the morning right when they opened and there was no line and it was very quiet in the mall. Great time to come by. Also, they gave me a FREE gift for checking in on Yelp !! We visited Blow Tea in Auburn on Saturday, August 29th, and overall, the food and boba were really good! Everything tasted great, and we really enjoyed what we ordered. Unfortunately, the experience was affected by how understaffed they were. It was extremely busy, and there was only one girl working the entire time. She was handling the drinks and everything else by herself, and honestly, we felt really bad for her because she was clearly doing her best. Because she was the only person working, we had to wait quite a while for our food and drinks. It wasn't really her fault at all--it was simply way too much for one person to handle, especially on a busy Saturday. We would definitely come back because the food and boba were great, but I really hope management considers having more staff during busy hours. Glow Tea is tucked in the middle of the Auburn Outlet Mall, right next to the food court. It's conveniently located in the middle but some could argue that location is inconvenient. I liked that the seating area is separate from the food court itself, though the layout felt a little awkward. The service was fine, no complaints there, but the drinks didn't impress me. Came back for another try as one of my besties wanted to try the place out. I warned her about the charges when we arrived and she was not amused about it either. Originally I didnt know if they charged for a refill and they do. Whether if its a large or small lightbulb you keep, its $2.95 to refill. This time around my friend and I tried the taro. We decided not to get the lightbulb as we found the regular is a large drink at just about $5 and $0.50 for each topping. These regular drinks cannot be refilled. It would be another $5 charge. The taro tasted sweet, but not as sweet as the brown sugar i ordered last time. Staff continues to be nice and busy. The pay stations remain a pay for yourself station. One located in front of their store and one located right at the register. FYI - dont forget your card as this place tends to have a LOT of people forget their card after they swipe, tap, or insert. They have two huge banners that say $2.95 refill. I even asked the guy, AS I WAS ORDERING, if the refill was $2.95 for any drink and he said he it just depended on what drink I wanted refill (they have drinks at different prices). Nowhere did he mention anything that I had to buy the extra $4.99 light bulb glass for the refill. There's nothing that would indicate that I did.... So I order, thinking I'll come back for a refill on my way out. I come back to get the refill and the same guy tells me NO, you can't get a refill. So obviously, I ask why, and he says they only do refills on their light bulb cups, which cost and additional 4.99. So if I was to order one drink, it's 4.99+ 5.75 so almost 11 bucks for one drink?!? That's insane. So no, I didn't get the light bulb cup. So I said, well where does it say that? And he points to the big banner and says, see, refill for the light bulb. So I ask, where does it actually say that? He says, it doesn't, it's just a picture and actually, they should probably be more clear on that - his words, not mines. So I ask, I can't be the only one has asked about this, there can't be no way, and the guy says nah, I have to tell people all the time. So in other-words, they knowingly FALSE ADVERTISE. You should be sued for how much people come to actually support you only to scam your same supporters. Giving 3 stars cause even though the worker was rude ....the drink was good!! Been here before but forgot to check in. Waited for about 3 minutes for my order to be taken, (not a problem!) they were making the previous people's drinks. I order a taro smoothie. The order taker asks any toppings I say no thank you, she then asks me what size but I can't hear her cause we both have masks on. She then rolls her eyes and grabs the laminated sign and asks me what...size...do...you....want..... talking to me like I am stupid. I quickly say regular please.she quickly throws the sign back down and rings me up. If she didn't give me attitude ... I would have given 4-5 stars! We both ordered the Fruit Party Fruit Tea, which is an additional $0.30 added to the price of $4.95 for a 24 oz. We added tapioca for $0.25, which is a very good price for a topping (besides free). So a lot of people seem to be disappointed in Glow Tea from the reviews on here. I actually really like this place. I feel like the prices are average for a bubble tea just about anywhere. Young Tea is $5+ for regular taro milk tea smoothie and I can't say I've ever paid less than $4.50 anywhere in the Greater Seattle area. The lightbulb cup is $7.99, with a colorful strobe that you can turn on and off, and a lid to close the bulb entirely. It's a cool souvenir and you get $2.95 refills for life yo! If you want less Ice ask for less, if you feel it's overpriced then get a regular cup size. The boba was cooked well and there was a decent amount. The only downside to this is that the bulb was super sticky on the outside and I'm not a fan of the way their straws are dispensed. I was extremely let down by it. The drink containers were expensive, and they did offer refills, but it wasn't much less. I got the Milk Tea with boba. I cannot say for certain, but the drink didn't taste fresh - as if it was made from a powder, and not freshly brewed tea. Again, I'm not certain, but it's that I think. The boba pearls themselves were hard, so they were either undercooked or have been refrigerated for a long time. On that note though, it may be due to the venue and its limitations. tl;dr This is honestly just a place to get a nice Instagram shot with the lightbulb drink, but it doesn't have good drinks and is absurdly expensive. My friend also found a piece of cardboard in hers, though Glow tea did give a refund when they complained. Glow tea seems to be a staple in every food festival I've been to in Seattle. I've seen incredibly long lines when they are the only boba store at the festival. They have both milk teas and fruit teas, and several different sizes of drinks. I don't really think the drinks are that great. I got the lychee tea with boba, but I didn't like it. It was obviously flavoured with syrups. My friends got taro milk tea (with the cardboard) and the mango tea. They thought the boba was tough and hard to chew. As mentioned earlier, the drinks were also absurdly expensive, especially considering that the drinks aren't made with high quality ingredients. The smallest one was $8.99, which was way more than boba typically. There was a 20% off if you paid with Apple Pay, which brought the price to an almost reasonable but still pricy amount. However, I do have to admit the boba lightbulb drinks are very photogenic and great for Instagram. Great place to get your boba fix while shopping in the mall! The line was long but moved quickly. The ordering process via a touchscreen menu was painless. You have the option of customizing your sugar, ice levels and toppings. Like with many bubble tea joints, they offer brown sugar milk tea and bubble waffles with ice cream here. I ordered the original milk tea which I have to say was good but found that after taking less then 10 sips it was gone and I was left with ice. My boyfriend ordered the mango milk tea which he said was good but same issue was how little of the drink he actually got.
