I really wanted to give a 5-star review, really. My future sister-in-law and I went to get spray tans at Glowout 3 weeks before my wedding so we could test it out and see if we liked the way it looked before getting them done before the wedding. When we walked in, it's clear that the shop itself is adorable - every corner is Instagram-worthy. The welcome from the staff behind the counter was very warm and friendly, offering us refreshments and introducing themselves once we were checked in. The experience of getting the tan itself was rather nondescript; she sprayed me and was very professional the whole time. This is where the experience went a bit downhill. Once Brittany was done with the tan, she started going through after-care instructions very quickly. Mind you, I was topless, wearing only an ill-fitting disposable thong, and I felt very exposed. I felt very aware of my nipples. This was not the time to have a discussion, in my opinion. I'm not sure if this is their process, but they should really make it a process for the spray tan artists to allow the customer to put some clothes on and head out to the lobby before getting after-care instructions. It was rather uncomfortable and I couldn't focus on what she was telling me. Once I was dressed and back out in the lobby, the woman behind the counter at the computer didn't look up and just said, "I'll take payment now." She didn't tell me the total, ensure that I checked in on Facebook to get $5 off, or even make eye contact. I was a bit flustered so I just handed her my card, and asked if she needed to see my phone to see that I checked in and she just said, "Nope." Ok... She ran my card then said, "Any gratuity?" Still, I'm not sure how much she charged so I wasn't sure how much 20% was, but I just blurted out, "Uh, yeah, give her $10" because I was pretty sure the regular tan was $50. Again, I wasn't sure since there were no prices shown and she didn't show me a total or anything, so it was a shot in the dark. Then she handed my card back and that was it. I was never asked if I wanted a receipt, I was never thanked, nothing. When my SIL was done with her tan, she joined me at the counter and got the same cold response from this girl behind the computer. My SIL even asked "Can I set up an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed too?" and she was completely ignored. The computer girl just responded, "I'll take payment now," and went through the same motions that she went through with me. My SIL asked the same question again and the girl responded, "Sure," like it was an inconvenience for her to schedule us to come back. We made appointments to come back a few days before the wedding, but cancelled them. It was nice of Brittany to follow up with me via email a couple days after my tan, but overall we felt like the experience could have been better. EDIT: Back with one more star as I got a phone call from the very sweet owner. I could tell that this "receptionist" was most likely just having a bad/off day and didn't intend to be rude, and the owner was mortified to hear about my experience. I greatly appreciated the phone call! I do want to note that my tan did look beautiful - I would definitely return for another one if I made spray tans my regular thing :) read more

Can't say enough great things about Glowout! The salon is beautiful and nicely decorated, the staff is all super friendly and who doesn't love fruit-infused water while you wait - so good! Came in for my first tan and the whole process was fantastic. When I booked the appointment, I was given instructions on how to prep my skin and what to expect on the day of. When I arrived at the salon I was asked a few more questions about me and was informed how my skin should react to the tan - these girls know their stuff! Bridget did my tan and she was the best! I was a little nervous about getting my first tan but she made me feel very comfortable. She was very professional and personable and I could tell she put a lot of care into her work and wanted my tan to look great. The tan feels very cold on your skin and it was actually pretty refreshing! After the spraying, Bridget let me know steps I could take to keep the tan looking even. I have been getting my hairdone with Stephanie for the past 2 years. She is awesome and super efficient and always gets my hair styled just the way I want it to be. The place in itself is very tidy and has a super chic decor. I'm so bummed that I'll be missing this place as I'm moving out of Chicago. I am not one to normally get a blowout but decided that since it's so close to my house that i would try it. I also purchased a gilt city coupon which sealed the deal. First, I had booked in a Saturday not knowing the gilt city wasn't valid then and they accepted it and just had me pay the difference of a normal blowout so I wouldn't waste the voucher. This was very accommodating of them and I greatly appreciated it. Most places would absolutely stick to their rules so it was great to have it work out. Secondly, the owner just could not have been nicer. Thirdly and maybe most importantly, the service was phenomenal. I honestly hate having my hair done but Katie made me want to go back. When I first sat in the chair she asked me what I wanted and even confirmed with a photo of something that I was looking for. My four stars are based on a mixed review of two services and how I was booked. Allow me to explain: I made an appointment for hair and makeup and instead of doing them separately the two stylist worked on me at the same time. If you're in a rush this is perfect for you. It also makes financial sense for the business since they can book another person in the chair that'd a client would normally occupy. However, since my event was hours away I was hoping to leave the chair with "fresher" service. I would have appreciated them telling me this ahead of time. Speaking of service, my hair was wonderful and actually held so well I rocked it the next day (and the next ). My makeup was meh. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't special either. I had the stylist add some eyeliner which helped, but then added more to my eyes and lips myself at home. I'll definitely go back for hair treatments and to possibly check out the spray tan. read more

Jenn came highly recommended by some of my co-workers and the Yelp reviews I made a last minute appointment on a Wednesday (goal was to get in the same day), in preparation for a quick cruise to the Bahamas with my BF and friends. The hitch here is that I am an *African-American woman (almond/toast complexion and often want need to get a spray tan to even out my tone, which can tend to be lighter or darker in some areas)*. Jenn was sooo kind and created a mixture that has made my skin look like I've been on a beach this entire week. Nothing phony about it -- I just look like I typically do in June/July/August with the exception being a more even tone and a bit of a glow. I just had my trial tan for a wedding I'm in. I must say that my expectations were not great (hear me out). I am as white as they come, so I haven't EVER intentionally tried to get tan. I've seen ALL the horrific results of orange tans on other people. And, the idea of standing completely naked while someone sprays all the parts of my body isn't exactly something I crave. Despite the reviews and the personal referral from a friends who had gone there before, I was very weirded out by the whole thing. I drove past the place like three times because it's on the third floor of a building who's first floor is a convenience shop. I thought this was someone who have this operation out of their house. Once I inside however, wow. It looks like a place where you expected a famous person to walk into any moment. Very posh, low key, clean, accommodating. They have an iPad to play on while you wait and a iPhone dock to charge your phone. Everything is top notch. The spray tan room was pretty, clean and offers disposable underwear. I opted out after seeing them because it's literally a triangle and string, so I would really be covering anything at all. Honestly, in that situation, your crotch is like the least embarrassing thing about you. Anyway, Jennifer (as well as the girls at the front desk) made me feel SO at ease. They explained everything to me and were sooo nice. Honestly. Just the best people. There's also a salon as part of the business and I was watching someone get their hair styled. I only saw a bit, but it looked GOOD. I just had a really great experience and am still waiting for the tan to set (it's only been 3 hours since I was "sprayed". Oh, also, it's SUPER affordable. I thought it was going to cost MUCH more. And if you get a package, it becomes even cheaper. I assume they don't expire, so if you have a few events going on, take the deal. So worth it. read more

I have never gone to a tanning bed in my life (yes I think that's awesome) or have had a spray tan, so when I was going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in California in May this Chicago girl knew that all the other California girls would be nice and tan. There was no way that I was going to look like a ghost. I had no idea how much spray tans really cost, but I really didn't care at that point. I found Jenn through my waxer--Rachel (@ Emmet Rhode salon). I contacted her via email and she answered me promptly and in subsequent emails she gave me instructions about how to prep my skin. I was super last minute making an appointment, but she was able to make my appointment for when it was convenient for me. She came to my apartment (this was a huge plus for me as I didn't have time to go somewhere as I was packing and leaving for CA the next day!) and set up this tent contraption thing and it fit right in my small studio kitchen. She brought lotion that I put on beforehand and a shower cap to protect my hair. She was very professional and put me at ease. Jenn explained the entire process to me and let me answer all the questions I had before we started and even while she was spraying me. We chatted while she was spraying me and all I really had to do was stand there she would move my arms and legs when she needed to spray. When she was done she suggested we go look in the mirror so I could see if I wanted to be darker. I decided that I wanted to be a little darker so she was happy to spray me some more. The whole process was actually really relaxing. So after I couldn't shower until the morning (I had my appt. at 5pm), but she had information on her website about that so I made sure that I wasn't doing anything that evening. The next morning I was pretty dark, but I showered and the spray (or whatever it's called) washed off. I was a little spotty around my wrists and ankles, but the next day my tan had toned down a lot and it was really even on the rest of my body. I felt healthier instead of pasty white :) My tan lasted probably for about a week and even at a week and a half I still had a little glow. At that point I was at the gym and some rubbed off when I was sweating, but I'm pretty sure that's normal. read more

Thrilled with my spray tan experience! I haven't gotten one in years, so I thought it would be a good pick-me-up before a weekend getaway to Miami. Appointments are easy to book online. The only technician available at my requested time was Katie. She wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews so I was a bit hesitant, but I trusted her and was glad I did! She is very pleasant and professional - key traits in a person who's going to spend 15 minutes methodically spraying your very exposed self. Best of all, the tan came out gorgeous! I arrived in Miami feeling confident and glowy, basically magic for someone who's been in Chicago winter. I can't speak to the longevity because I got some actual sun tan on top, but I'm still rather sun-kissed after a week. My only disappointment is that I didn't get to meet Jenn! I never tan and I definitely don't spray tan! I enjoy the palest part of life. That was until I had to take engagement photos! I made an appointment online and pre-paid. The location is easy to find and since I scheduled my appointment early in the morning on Friday there was ample parking available. I was greeted by my Tan Airbrush Specialist, Megan, who took me to a tiny room where I had to put on a cap and tiny black paper undies. That was it! I was in the nude like momma made me! But I didn't feel very uncomfortable because Megan was so nice and fast! The whole process took about 15 minutes and within hours the tan set. She even got rid of some bizarre tan lines from running. Megan was very detailed. I will be a repeat customer once the wedding comes around. I should note that my tan lasted two weeks and I even used a loofa after day 3! read more

She is amazing and incredibly sweet!! She even opened early to squeeze me in before my destination wedding flight! My mani/pedi is still gorgeous and intact 8 days later. I don't usually leave reviews, but after finding Glowout on Yelp, I thought I should help others do the same! I was looking for an alternative to a popular blowout chain which has received less-than-glowing reviews on its Chicago locations and landed here. Disclaimer: this review is for hair services only; I did not tan. I had scheduled a 12pm blowout with Brittany, which started promptly after I arrived and was greeted by the friendly front desk (smiled, offered a drink, etc.). Brittany then walked me back to the styling room, asked about my style preferences, and shampooed my hair. Long story short, she did a fantastic job with the blowout. My one tip for newcomers to the salon is that my blowout involved more time with the curling iron than the blow dryer, so the style will look less "blown out" at the roots. However, this does guarantee you avoid the hair-pulling and scalp-burning that you roll the dice on at some other spots, and since I needed it to hold until late the same night, it was preferable for me. Brittany was also an easy conversationalist and had me laughing the whole time and was very personable (but still professional). I will be back the next time I need a blowout and I can't recommend Glowout highly enough! read more

Best airbrush tan I have ever had, no questions asked! Jenn is fantastic!! I came across golden girl on yelp and after reading all of the fabulous reviews, I had to see for myself. I sent Jenn an email and even though she was out of town, she replied quickly! She was able to get me in on pretty short notice at the day and time I wanted. Jenn is so personable and genuinely cares and wants all of her customers to be completely satisfied. I have never ever had such a natural looking tan before. No one had a clue it wasn't real. It lasted over a week despite being in and out of the pool in Vegas a few times! Even when it started to fade, it faded naturally and didn't come off splotchy. I think the tell tale sign of a "fake" tan is usually your hands and feet and mine looked awesome and so natural. I really can't say enough good things about my tan and the whole experience. I went back for my second tan two weeks later and I am just as happy with the results as the first time. I even bought a package, so I will definitely be a regular. I couldn't have been more pleased with Jenn and the airbrush tan I received on New Years Eve! I was recommended by a friend who went to her earlier in the week and I was blown away by Golden Girl's services. First of all, this may be the only spray tan on earth that DOESN'T SMELL! It's seriously amazing. Jenn was so knowledgeable about the products she offered and even gave some great skin care/moisturizing tips. The shade of the tan turned out beautifully and she will even come to your house if you aren't able to travel the distance to her! Received a fantastic spray tan from Jenn when I was in town last week. She was very personable and made what is normally a totally awkward experience (um, hello stranger I just met, let me give you some money and then stand in front of you in just my underwear while you spray paint my body so that I can pretend I'm not really a pasty white girl from Northern Michigan!) enjoyable. The salon itself is a little tricky to find. Hint: you have to ring a buzzer to get inside. But once you're there it is very relaxing and decorated beautifully. They also allow you to book your appointment online, which is very convenient. Another thing to note: when you leave here, you will not be bright orange. I've had other spray tans (at my local spray tan salon - not here!) where I left looking like Snooki right away and it was pretty embarrassing. This color wasn't obvious right away; it developed slowly. Just something you should know in case you want to run to the grocery store or something after your spray. Highly recommend this place if you need a splash of color before a big event, or just because you want to feel pretty. Price is about the same as I pay in the DC-area. It's been 5 days since my spray and my color is still holding strong. When I returned from my trip to Chicago yesterday my husband even said "Wow, you got a great tan in Chicago!". To start with... Jenn is such a cool girl! I called & left a message for an appointment and heard back from her within the hour. I scheduled my appointment for their Lincoln Park location, & even though I was about 20 minutes late Jenn waited for me and was totally cool when I showed up. She was comfortable, professional and super nice... which is sometimes hard to find when you're getting a fully nude airbrush tan. My color looked great (which I especially appreciate being a redhead), and 6 days later it still looks good. She told me they do on-location tanning for $10 more, and I'll definitely be taking advantage of that this summer. This is a delayed review. I came to Golden Girl for a spray tan in September due to a wedding. Being a first time customer, I was a tad nervous to stand in my bikini bottoms in front of a stranger. I loved everything about this place -- except for my blow out. My girlfriend and I scheduled a blowout before a fundraiser last week. The owners were very warm and welcoming, they offered us a mimosa while we had our hair done. The salon is really cute and clean. I really wanted to love this place but my blow out was just awful. To be fair, my stylist seemed relatively new and I don't think her curling iron was working. A good blowout usually lasts me 2-3 days but this didn't last more than a half hour. Would I go back? Maybe if I had an event in the area and went to a new stylist. So sad! read more

I have been to Golden Girl Chicago for the awesome tans a few times, but I primarily go to get my hair done by Amie Miller. She is fabulous and I've been going to see her for cuts and color for over a year now (previously at Emmet Rode Salon). It's obvious that Amie is very knowledgeable about hair - from the products she uses to understanding the texture, shape and thickness of your hair. I really can't compliment her enough. This past September, Amie styled my girls and I for my wedding and everyone looked beautiful and received so many compliments. She manages her time well and accounts for people like me, who have enough hair for three people, into her scheduling - so I never feel like my hair hasn't been given her full attention and on the wedding day, she tackled six of us splendidly. She's also really flexible with her scheduling and responds quickly to email, texts or phone calls. The salon itself is so warm and chic (thanks to Amie and Jenn's creativity), making it a lovely, calming environment. Just had my very first spray tan ever by the amazing Jen. She is so gentle and sweet, she took away all my nerves. I choose the express tan because I had an event that night. Worked like a charm! I was glowing by 7 pm (went in at 11:30). Everyone kept complimenting me, and I think I converted a few gals right then and there. My tan was even and really natural looking. She was so friendly and did a great job explaining everything I needed to do to ensure the best results.
