I had my colored at the Asha salon in Schaumburg on a Thurs evening and unfortunately, it turned out quite bad. I won't mention the stylist by name as I don't believe in name shaming over social media. Plus, anyone can have an off day at work. But when I got home, my partner (who usually never notices my hair) said, "OMG what did you do to your hair? It looks terrible!" Sadly, he was right. So I went online and made an appointment for the next day (Fri) at Asha in the Gold Coast to see if a stylist there could somehow fix it. I was starting a new job on Monday so time was of the essence. Luckily I got Izzy, who is insanely talented. I've had my hair done at Aveda salons all over the world (I travel a lot for work) and can honestly say Izzy is in the top 1% of all stylists. She's truly remarkable and performed a miracle on my hair. When I went up to the counter to pay, I was greeted by Imani. She said she noticed in my records that I just had my hair colored less than 12 hours ago at the Schaumburg location and said since I was not happy with the result, she was not going to charge me. I was stunned as I honestly expected to pay since I was seeing a different stylist at another location. I cannot express how grateful I am to Imani and Izzy for the amazing customer experience. I was able to walk into my new job with confidence thanks to these two remarkable women. They have won a loyal customer and brand advocate for life!! read more

I've been going to Ariel for some time now, and she is truly a hair goddess! Not only is she calm and patient, but she's also incredibly sincere and sweet. Her attention to detail and white-glove service is unmatched. Her cozy little styling nook feels especially warm and festive for the holiday season, and every visit feels like catching up with an old friend you've known for years. I have been coming to Asha Salon Gold Coast for ~18-19 years. A few years ago they started carrying a brand called Back of Bottle, BOB. The product is fantastic and rivals or exceeds Aveda. Today at the salon I learned they will no longer carry the product BOB since the manager who supported it has left. The removal of BOB products is why I gave 3 stars Please Asha, BRING BACK BOB!!! If you're like me, you hate the process of having to find a new salon. My last stylist at another salon ended up moving out of state and since that salon was close to an old apartment of mine and no longer convenient, my goal was to find a salon potentially in walking distance. Living in Gold Coast, Asha has a great location and terrific ambiance. The salon overlooks a park and has great big windows allowing for a lot of light and honestly, a relaxing experience while getting your hair done. I also have always loved Aveda products so loved that this was an Aveda salon. I've had a few cut & colors here and each time I'm happier than the last time. I've gone to Izzy and had a great experience each time. I've recommended friends here and well and was happy to hear they liked it too! I got my hair cut here earlier this week and unfortunately I will not be a returning customer after this experience. I have 2b/2c hair, and from what I experienced, I have to assume my stylist has never worked on any type of curly hair before. I arrived with my hair in its natural state and asked for a chin-length bob - I mentioned that my hair is shorter when it dries because of shrinkage. I also mentioned that I don't blow dry or straighten my hair, it's always curly. Unfortunately, I ended up with a haircut at least 2 inches shorter than what I asked for, the left and right sides completely uneven, and random pieces 3 inches longer than the rest of my hair throughout. However, I didn't realize the extent of how bad it was until after I got home and restyled my own hair to be curly. I am not even sure how my hair came out so uneven when my stylist cut it while it was wet and then blow-dried it to be pin straight afterwards. She also did not use heat protectant spray, so my hair has been breaking and snapping off every time I've washed it this week. I have had to trim, fix, and even out my hair every day to make it look even, without making it shorter than it already is. read more

I was nervous because I've never been here before and my regular stylist at another salon wasn't available, but Asha really surprised me and gave me a great experience. I had Alejandro and he listened to everything I wanted, was adaptable and was overall a really great, knowledgeable stylist who was able to work around my cowlicks. Super disappointed. Was going to use Asha for my wedding. I sent an inquiry on November 23rd. After exchanges a few emails with questions from the salon, they stopped responding. The last email from them said "Are you looking to schedule updo's and blowdries? Just updo's? Or just blowdries? And is everyone in your party receiving makeup?" I followed up three times (December 5th, December 14th, and December 18th) and no one ever responded from the salon. Leaves me looking for hair and makeup for my wedding and the salon without good business. read more

The hair color touch up is worse than when I did it myself at home kits. Didn't realize I have a huge line of dark colors on my upper forehead after I left this place. I tried so hard to remove the color out of my forehead and it was difficult to get it out. Definitely not worth of $90 touch up. read more

I've been coming here since I moved back to the city about a year and a half ago, and have always been happy. I get a haircut and single process color, usually roots to ends. The stylist I see, Trisha, is very highly skilled and knowledgeable, and is great at listening to what I want. When I've wanted to make some changes in my cut, she's not been shy about steering me away from styles that are a little dated, and I trust her judgement. The desk staff are usually very professional and friendly. They almost always start with an offer to hang up my coat, and end with an offer to make my next appointment there on the spot. The space is comfortable, and they've made every attempt to slow the spread of Covid, with large plastic dividers between each stylist's chair and all staff fully masked. read more

She is super easy to communicate with, and helps me figure out what I want and what would look good if I'm not totally sure. Bucktown Location: I asked for cool burgundy, I got warm copper. My colorist knew it was too warm, used a toner and it still came out wrong. The manager, Carmen, said she saw that it wasn't what I asked for. I asked for a partial refund, she refuses to give it to me. I ask for the name of the GM, she says she's not at liberty to tell me their name. Today, on the phone with their extremely rude receptionist, I'm told Carmen IS the GM and that anyone could find that information online. I spent 3 hours at the salon to receive the wrong color and it's been a week-- she has stopped answering my calls and emails and I had to go elsewhere to get the color fixed. Terrible customer service, rude and condescending staff. Go anywhere but here. read more

It was the first time I've ever gotten a haircut that costs more than $17 (you know the places I'm talking about). Now I will never go back to my $17 haircuts. I used to come here 7 years ago, when I lived in the area. Coming back for a wedding, I thought I would make a basic deep conditioning and haircut appt. I was early, but the appointment started 15 minutes late-- so I had been there 30 minutes by the time anyone said hello to me. The employees all seemed distracted and a little vacant (two were making up definitions of what "asha" meant and others were talking about the value of tattoos in their "industry"). There was also some debate going on about the service itself; generally, customers seemed unhappy. Some sample dialogue: Customer - "So, why was it cut like that?" Stylist - Response mumbled. Customer - "So, why did you use that brush, even when I asked you not to?" Stylist - Response mumbled. The customer above ended up stomping off at the end and the stylist immediately grabbed a couple of the girls that were working to gossip in the back (still within line-of-sight to the customers) all the while knowing I was waiting. After he was done talking, he came to get me for my appointment. I started with a conditioning treatment that was a little awkward because my hair kept getting stuck in the drain. Eventually, we got to the haircut-- and while he did CUT it, he told me I could check the layers, which he never let me do. He then proceeded to dry my hair the way that I like it-- which is where he could have stopped. He (without my guidance) started curling my hair using a lot of hairspray. He spent 20 minutes I didn't have on work he didn't have to do that just made my hair frizzy. All in, it was $150 on a haircut and treatment that made my hair look worse than it would have if I had gone to the Hair Cuttery around the corner. I will never again come here. I can just try to tame the frizzy hair he created and go somewhere else. read more

This review has to do with the CORPORATE policy of charging $4 fee for so called "sustainability". This charge BEGAN DURING THE PANDEMIC, not before. It was acceptable as we understood the extra safety protocols required to reopen for business. It has been 3 years and no other salon business has continued this charge (we checked several well known upscale salons similar to ASHA). Yes Asha calls it "sustainability" and no one within the company has given me a satisfactory answer as to what that even means. It is a greedy business tactic, that's all. The only reason we continue to visit Asha is because of the stylist we're loyal to (who is the best). Should the stylist leave, we will too. AND Corporate knows this. Very greedy business and their customer service has DECLINED significantly over the year. read more

I had come across Asha Gold Coast on Instagram in December or so. In January, I decided to see colorist Leah to get my naturally blonde-brunette hair to a super light, ashy blonde with full highlights at 125. I loved it. It was so light and the color was exactly what I wanted. To follow up on my color, I went in yesterday for the same thing. I told her and showed her that I wanted the same light, ashy blonde we did last time. As she was coloring my hair, she asked if I wanted the color painted to the root or a bit further down and I told her to do whatever she thought would look best because I truly trusted her. When I went to pay, however, I was charged 20 more dollars because this was balayage. She didn't AT ALL indicate this to me which also upset me. She did the same thing with the extra 30 dollars for the gloss. Last time, we had toned my hair (which she said the gloss this time around was a toner) so I figured it was the same thing? Furthermore, the salon didn't book enough time for me as she was rushing with me toward the end of my appointment. Unfortunately, I'm now left with very gold and brassy roots that don't blend into the rest of my hair whatsoever. The worst part is I don't feel like (or even want to) I can go back into the salon to see her and have it fixed since I truly do not trust her or Asha Gold Coast anymore, yet I have gold hair now that I can't stand nor fix with purpling shampoo as I've tried. Given that my haircut cost $50, I probably don't have the right to give this a 1*. Nevertheless, very very poor experience from start to finish - I may as well have gone to a Super Cuts and saved myself the $30 difference. When I was having my hair washed, I noticed an insect or two - saw a couple more while I was getting my hair cut, which made me think that this was not a very hygienic place. Also had to be standing for pretty much my entire cut. My hair is definitely long, so this isn't unusual for portions of the cut, but definitely the only time I've had to be standing for the entire thing. I specifically told my stylist that I did not want thinning scissors or thinning of ANY kind while I was standing up. She acknowledged this and started blow drying. No questions, not even for courtesy, about whether I wanted the tonnage of mousse she put in my hair or how I might like it to be styled. Despite my wincing in pain and pulling away SEVERAL times, she was still yanking on my hair as hard as she could. I now have several tiny hairs sticking straight up out of my head - when I asked her if that was breakage, she told me that they are baby hairs growing in. I wasn't born yesterday, and the reason those hairs are sticking straight up is because they are irritated and frayed from the yanking and pulling. Once my hair was dry, I caught the stylist thinning out my layers - when I told her I asked her not to do that, she got extremely snappy with me and flicked my hair in my face and said "the layers won't show at all if I don't thin". Ok, if you have strong views maybe share them with me when I ask you not to thin? I also pointed out to her that one side was slightly longer than the other in the front and she sighed loudly and got more snippy. Finally, when I was trying to get out of there, the receptionist told me I couldn't tip in card and I would have to use their machine outside. And of course, they had no change for small bills when I came back. No apologies for any of this, of course. I'm never coming back here. And advice to my own self - pay for quality and don't assume that the Aveda brand guarantees even a minimum level of service/quality. Today I went in for a hair trim, and I had the best haircut of my life! Thanks Jessica. I'd just moved into this building and figured I should give the salon a chance. Thank god I did. Now I have a hair stylist for life. I'd asked for their lowest rate as I have been trying to grow my hair out and only needed a trim. I came out with the nicest curls, a new friend, and the "edgiest" haircut ever, haha! I told her that I've been having hard time keeping my hair split end free and just wanted to trim my face. She took the time to understand what I'm asking for. She went above and beyond to give me a mini make over by cutting the least length. Ladies, we alllll know how much that matters. She was sweet and attentive. Respectful and meticulous. The business is classy, well ran, clean, and relaxing. I love Aveda products, which they use. If I were to summarize my experience here in 4 letters and 2 syllables, it would have to be so-so. My socks weren't knocked off, nor was it worthy of a rant or temporary break from Groupon massages. I did like that the service began with a nice foot massage. At the beginning, it was a little unclear as to where to go to change; once I was informed of the location of my personal cubby hole, I was robed up and ready to go. Saw Jordan at the SOW location in the burbs but excited that she's actually at the Gold Coast location-- closer to home & work. First, she's a tell-it-like-it-is kinda gal. My favorite to deal with. I wanted to do balyage but she said it wasn't going to happen overnight but we'd get there by my 2nd appointment. Second, she's very methodical and fast. We made small talk about being California transplants but I was there to get my hair done and I had work to get through. Third and final, she did great work. Salon front desk was very welcoming and the salon itself was very clean. Good vibes from the start. I was met by my stylist, Rose. Well, she totally got what I meant and long story short, I left with one of the best haircuts I've had in recent memory (that includes cuts from other high end salons in the area.) I've been getting strictly Brazilian waxed for the last 2 years straight. However I moved from Maryland to Chicago and needed to find a new esthetician. I gave European wax center a try the past 2 months and became TRAUMATIZED! So I decided to do my research and give Asha Spa a try. Let's just say I'm beyond pleased to say I found a new spa home. Ms. Mechelle came out on time and introduced herself to me and led me into my room. She offered me hot tea or water. I accepted the hot tea which I found soothing before my session. Mechelle gave me a Brazilian and under arm wax. One thing I really appreciated was that she didn't rush our session and she was belond knowledgeable. I felt soooo comfortable and at home. Out of 2 years of getting waxed this was one of my best experiences. I feel like a brand new women. If i could walk around buttnaked I probably would after getting this amazing Brazilian.
