Dillion and Jason at GMF are spectacular. I called and asked Dillion about a Onewheel and if they sell or service them. They do sell the Pint and the XR boards. My LED headlight on my onewheel XR was flickering. Dillon was kind enough to say that he would take a look at it. I went down to GMF @ 16th St. and Bethany Home and Dillon took my board and fixed it. Let's just say it's a lot of work for Dillon. I greatly appreciate his efforts to fix my light. Jason who also works at GMF was willing to call another shop to see if they do servicing (Onewheel). Great staff! I have an electric scooter and I was having difficulty getting the tire on the wheel after replacing the tube. This is not a service they offer but Jason and the owner got it done. I previously tried another nearby cycle shop and they seemed to be annoyed that I would even ask if that was a service they provided. I LOVE this bike shop. As a female who loves to ride her mountain bike but knows absolutely nothing about maintaining it, it's nice to have a neighborhood bike shop to assist with my questions and maintenance needs. I have stopped in here a number of times for tips on pumps, bike lights, gear, my dropper seat, even for some air in the tires, etc and every time I leave the shop I'm amazed by how nice and friendly the team is. Bikes and maintenance can be very intimidating and I never feel dumb asking this bike shop my questions. I try to buy anything bike related here to support this community shop because I would be crushed if they ever close. I don't know what to say about this place, other than amazing, Eric took care of me personally. I purchased a bike from another shop that I won't name and have had issues with the crank. The other shop said it was normal for it to happen and to just carry a tool on me and I'll be fine. Eric checked my bike and nothing was assembled correctly, he did the tune up and replaced my crank for free as a goodwill gesture since I didn't have any money on me. I will be back Thursday and purchase from them based on this experience alone and will tell my friends about it. read more

Stopped in today on a recommendation from my coworkers to find a used bike. When I heard about Grey Matter Foundation, there was no doubt in my mind this was the place to go to find my new-to-me bike! This store was started by a young man named Kyle Claffey as a place to spread the love of cycling and also raise money for research on brain tumors. Kyle recently passed from this devastating condition, and his mission lives on as the store is now run by his family. The used bikes they sell are donated, and they fix them up and sell them at a great price, then donate the profits to the Barrow Neurological Institute. I was greeted warmly and Kyle's dad immediately found me the exact kind of bike I was looking for! They are going to put new tires on it and give it a tune-up before I pick it up tomorrow. I am so excited! The store has all kinds of bikes- road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, kids bikes, I even saw some unique bikes like a tandem! They also have parts and a bike shop if you need a tune-up. Also, If you have a bike you aren't using, donate it here so it can benefit a good cause instead of collecting dust in your garage or making you a few measly dollars on craigslist. Great place, great people, great mission. So glad I found this place. read more

This is my "go to" bike shop in Phoenix. They do outstanding repair work and their shop is well stocked. They also sell used parts and bikes, which is really nice if you need a replacement and don't want to pay retail. Super knowledgeable, and very friendly staff. Whether you're a hardcore rider or just need to get a flat fixed on your kid's bike these guys will make you feel at home. I also love that they contribute to cancer research. If I had written this sooner the number of stars would be a 5. This shop is clean, the bikes are very well maintained, and I absolutely love what they stand for. My ONLY issue is with the lack of care from some of their staff members. I have purchased two bikes from this shop, countless tubes, and had service done but still, for whatever reason, I feel as if I do not matter as much as other customers. Last summer my bike (purchased from GMF) was stolen and I was on the rebound for a new road bike. I found one that I loved at the shop but since it hadn't been fully serviced there was no price. I left my name and number and told the guys that I was fully committed to buying the bike. They said they would call as soon as the owner priced the bike. I called 2-3 times for an update and heard the same. After a few weeks of not getting an answer I stopped in and found out that it had already been purchased by another customer. I wasn't very happy but as I said, their mission is amazing so I gave them another shot. I bought an old Cannondale with 650s in October. A few months later I went in to buy a new set of tires and was told that they needed to be ordered. The guy at the desk was completely confused about the tire size and seemed too busy to bother. He took down my information and told me that someone would call. A week later I called and was told they were ordered and to expect a call. Another week went by and I called again. I was told they were in the shop somewhere but the guy that answered didn't know where and wanted to ask the owner. After another month I just bought the tires elsewhere. I'm not a fan of begging a business to take my money. If this had been ANY other shop I would have given them a lower rating and never go back but the story of what they stand for makes me really want them to succeed. I hope the owner reaches out because I really would like to have my faith in this shop restored. They have such a strong cause and do good work but customer service is key. I would hate to see his business fail due to poor staff attitudes towards customers. read more

This not for profit bike shop is a gem. No they don't sell Pinarrelo's and in fact sell many used bikes. The interesting thing about this shop is that it exists as a not for profit and almost as a co op. You can donate un used or un needed parts. I do it frequently. As I was looking around, I noticed they build bikes from scratch--you pick the used frame, components, etc (something you don't see in many shops). Thirdly, the prices were very reasonable. Very nice people but....I spent about 10-15 minutes at the register because the guy ringing me up for a tube and tune-up was having difficulties....OK, no prob. Then when I called a few days later to confirm my bike would be ready on time they started asking me about what I wanted done...apparently the original order was confusing to the techs....*sigh* OK we got that straightened out and when I finally got to pick up my bike and the guy behind the counter was trying to charge me again...he had no record that this was already paid!!! ....AAAARG!!...so I went out to the truck to look for the original receipt..thank God I found it. I really wanted to support this good cause and even drove over 40 miles to come to this shop for that specific reason. I was SO disappointed by the treatment we revived. I was ready to purchase a bike today, I found a nice, used bike that was my size and in good condition, priced fairly. Within the same rack we saw a few other bikes we were possibly interested in, but had questions, as there were no prices listed. We approached the counter and tried to inquire about said bikes and the guy just kept spewing off prices of "bikes on the wall." I had to repeat over and over that it was a bike on the rack and I finally ended up asking him to come over so we could show him what bike we were inquiring about, he was SO put out and said 'fine'....seriously!!?? He came over and STILL wouldn't acknowledge the bike we were asking about and only kept quoting & pointing to various bikes in the $900-$1000 range, finally he gave us the price of the bike we were wanting, and he actually told us that there was another used bike store down the road, then, without any follow up or additional information, he ran off back behind the counter. I was SO insulted & offended at this, I had explicitly told him I wanted to purchase the 1st bike, and to basically be told to go somewhere else, I feel because my bike was not a large dollar amount was SO offensive! We ended up leaving because he simply could not be bothered to give us the time of day. I have never owned a bike in my adult life and I have been wanting one for YEARS, was really bummed that I even found one, but was treated so poorly, that my excitement was so depleted I just ended up walking out empty handed. read more

Had some problems with a rear tire and also needed a tune up. Called around town, everyone was quoting 3.5 weeks out to get work done. Got in touch with Grey Matter for the first time. Called on Monday, they said bring it in Wednesday, should be ready by Friday. Dropped it off first thing Wednesday got a call that afternoon that everything was done. Picked it up Thursday morning, and damn me if everything on that bike wasn't cleaned, fine tuned, and shiny. I've ridden my bike everyday for the last 5 years, and its NEVER had a ride as smooth as when I picked it up from this place. They've def earned a loyal customer in me. I thought the price quote was fair, turned out to be stellar after the quality of service. I highly recommend this shop. read more
