My wife and I visited here while traveling through the southeast for the first time. After sampling and enjoying much of the local cuisine and atmosphere we found Goat's, a well done, tasteful, comfortable restaurant and bar, with attentive and friendly service. Neither of us are vegetarian, being more opportunistic eaters. After all the heavy food we tried in the south we were happy to see veggie options on the menu. I had the black bean burger, my wife had the Philly Veggie Sandwich, recipes created in house and fantastic. My wife had the Screaming Viking cocktail with cucumber vodka. Who would have thought? We had opted to not do wine while in the south, but after reviewing the list,we realized we really should have reconsidered. My husband and I have a 2 year old, and we don't have a babysitter in town. That translates to us not getting out to adult dinners often at all. We had a free night 3 weeks ago and tried out this place. We happened to score another adult night tonight and we ended up at Goat's again! This place is -that- good. This is a tough review for me to write. I'll start with the good things - the food I received was very good! I enjoyed my cheesesteak. It was a to go order but inside the bar looked super trendy! Small and dark vibes. The reason for the 4 stars is they called to tell me their fryer wasn't working - I was disappointed but no big deal - they offered to give me a side salad and I said okay. When I got back to my hotel I realized I only had the cheesesteak and they charged me $15 for just a cheesesteak and no sides. I really think they should've already given a discount because they didn't have fries but I wasn't going to complain. The man who gave me my food gave me a voucher for a free drink which was nice but not really appropriate compensation in my opinion. I was there for work and will never go there for a drink. I was disappointed in the whole experience to be honest but the food I did get was good but definitely not worth $15 read more

Always amazing! This food is always fresh and delicious. Staff is amazing and I can't think of a time when the owner wasn't there to make sure everything was running smoothly. I'm so glad that Goatfeathers was resurrected as the new and improved Goat's! I popped by for dinner last week with a friend. We wanted to order everything on the menu but finally narrowed it down. Friend ordered the duck tacos and the philly cheesesteak. I ordered the beef bourguignon and the garlic frites. You get 2 duck tacos (kinda small) which friend thought were OK but the Philly cheesesteak was huge and the best cheesesteak I've ever tasted. I will definitely be going back for that soon. It came with a side of frites. My beef bourguignon was delicious and served with cubed sweet potatoes. I would recommend it as well. I'd probably pass on the garlic frites. They weren't anything to write home about and there were definitely better apps on the menu. While I didn't order a drink this time my friend ordered an old fashioned which came in a martini glass. The waiter said that was just how the bartender did it. Friend said it tasted good so who cares which glass it comes in? The restaurant/bar has been spruced up and there is new art on the walls. I really don't understand the big deal about this restaurant. After reading the Yelp reviews, I was pretty excited to go find Goat's -- I am a somewhat infrequent visitor to Columbia, and thought this must be some new, amazing place that popped up since my last visit. Nope. Google maps led me to a dive-y door in Five Points I had walked by before and thought, "no way." The positive (practically orgasmic) Yelp reviews convinced me to to go in. I shouldn't have done it; this is one of the very few times that Yelp reviews have let me down. The buffalo oysters were ok. Not nearly spicy enough, and a little bit too much cheese. The beef bourguignon was solid. I couldn't get the cocktail I wanted (despite reviews saying Opie was a magic mixologist ... he wasn't there and apparently they don't stock the ingredients for a Corpse Reviver #2). There were some (I assume) regulars at the bar who were rather intoxicated and having a loud conversation. The one redeeming point of the evening was the overall price for my meal: one cocktail, an app, a glass of wine, and the entree came to $40. I come from the Pacific Northwest, and to me, this is a steal. So much for my hope that Five Points had classed up its act. For the same price, I'd much rather go to Hunter Gatherer (which I did, the next two nights in a row). Three stars for value, but I otherwise won't be coming back here again. read more

On my first visit to Columbia, a colleague was nice enough to direct me to Goat's for a good meal and cool place to hang out. I always trust the opinion of a local, and she was exactly right. The staff was extremely friendly - tip of the cap to Opie for making every patron feel welcome. Had the best time on Friday having dinner with my best friend. The cocktail menu was excellent and the server even recommended her favorites to us. We had the duck poutine fries for an app. Its a good portion for sharing and we finished the whole thing. For entrée we both had the beef bourguignon which was super tender and flavorful. Everything you could wish for in a restaurant/bar right here in Columbia, SC! The eclectic atmosphere, swanky music, and amicable staff are just the tip of the iceberg at this groovy joint. Goat's is a modernized update of a historic Five Points bar that maintains a relaxed and anti-college scene despite its proximity to Harden Street. Goat's is a must for food, wine, cocktails, beer, dessert, and a good time. Best menu items: poutine, Philly cheesesteak, beef bourguignon, and the quail. To be fair though, everything on the menu is a win. There are even great vegetarian options that meat-lovers like myself have enjoyed. Don't let yourself down though and get there after the kitchen has closed. The bar stays open late, but M-W the kitchen closes at 9:30pm, and Th-Sat closes at 10pm. Their warm, winter cocktails are a must-try as well. Try to hit up one of the bar special nights: Monday is beer night ($1 off beers all night), Tuesday is wine (25% off bottles), and Friday is a $20 bottle of champagne! It tasted like wet flour.The chief apologize . He stated he did not understand why he had just opened a new box . I think he just answered the reason . One of my top 5 favorite bars. Opie, the owner, is a great proprietor, the exact kind that I love to support. My family came down to Columbia for the total solar ecliplse, 7 hours away from our home in Maryland. We were walking around looking for a place to hang out during the ecliplse. Opie was outside enjoying a glass of Rose with an employee and he offered me a glass and who am I to turn down a glass of Rose on a hot summer day?? He also gave my two sons a "Moon Pie"(very appropriate for the eclipse). We stayed there for the next two hours and he and his staff could not have been better hosts. When I asked for a bottle of wine to be recommended, Opie did not try to point me towards his most expensive but rather the great bargains on his list. The one I got was fantastic. Unfortunately, his kitchen would not open til after we left so we did not get to try the food but Duck Poutines? Come on, what could be better? Looking for good food and a good drink on eclipse day in Columbia so we checked out Goats. It's a small bar with an extensive wine, beer and cocktail menu and a very small eclectic food menu. Started off with a Moscow mule which hit the spot and then ordered the black bean burger. I was pleasantly surprised that the burger was tasty, moist, topped with pickled onions and on a brioche bun. Pretty goodit came with a small side salad and I ordered garlic fries with garlic aioli to go with it. The fry order was piping hot and huge and the aioli was pretty tasty too.
