The menu is stacked--sandwiches, hearty apps, macs, and cozy entrees that make you forget you're eating vegan. During my visit, they were running a Reuben sandwich special that seriously tempted me, but I went with the oyster mushroom calamari, and wow, the seasoning was spot on, and it could easily fool a seafood lover. My friend tried the seitan wings and was really impressed, even though he's usually not into mock meats. They came with super flavorful sauces and were definitely shareable. He also had the smash burger, which was a total win--savory, satisfying, and gave big diner vibes. We heard the milkshakes are amazing too, but we were too full to fit them in. Next time, for sure. Only downside? The service was on the slow side--we waited over 30 minutes between apps and mains. It's a popular spot, so some delay is understandable, but it was noticeable. Overall, I loved it and can't wait to go back with an emptier stomach and room for dessert.

Complex flavors, creamy texture & great for meat eaters too because you don't think it's suppose to taste like something it's not. It was quite busy, but we got seated by the entrance which was cute and feminine with varying mirror shapes. Definitely recommend. $20-$30 meals.

The music is so soothing that it instantly makes you feel at ease and ready to relax in your seat. Now, let me tell you about the food. It's all vegan and plant-based, and it's absolutely delicious! I was skeptical at first, thinking, "This can't be all plant-based. What's going on here?" But boy, was I wrong! I ordered a few items, including nachos, trio empanadas, and vegan wontons. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The flavors were so vibrant and the textures were so satisfying. I couldn't stop eating! Then, I ordered the oxtail with rice and beans, steak in a chimichurri sauce with rice and beans, and a hamburger with yuca fries. I also ordered two mac and cheese dishes and a side of tostones with a garlic sauce. To top it all off, we ordered a sour sop with vodka, a cream juice, and a red stripe beer. And let's not forget the tres leches and cheesecake with a passion fruit drizzle. I know I usually don't write long reviews, but this place had me hooked from the very first appetizer. The parking isn't great, so get there early and have your credit card ready. It's not a cheap place, but the quality of the food is worth every penny.

The "steak" chunks had a perfect sear that anchored the entire plate. For drinks, the guava and passion fruit juice offered a sharp, tropical contrast. While the menu is naturally plant-forward, there are plenty of solid gluten-free options like the mofongo and tostones. The staff, specifically Elise, was engaging and provided informed recommendations. Even if you aren't local to this part of Brooklyn, the experience makes it well worth the trip.

Food: - Dancehall Burger- sounded interesting but the maduros were a miss. would have been better with avocado and bacon. the slut sauce made this burger. onions were grilled but not caramelized. overall it was a solid burger. - Hollywood Hooker: massive but kind of bland? the texture was spot on for a philly chopped sandwich. but no slut sauce :( get the burger - eggrolls: philly cheesesteak egg roll. it was popular. Solid choice. i couldnt tell it wasnt beef. i added sweet chilli sauce to it which added some spice. - Fries: one batch was hot, crunch, perfectly cooked and had great seasonings. the other batch was soggy and was likely sitting out. if you get the fries fresh its worth it. Service: - Order on kiosks - Trainwreck. online order and suprised when it was ready within 4 minutes. I can prove my Haitian ethnicity by cooking traditional dishes. The legume was on point! That dish was my favorite. My friend truly enjoyed her salmon. Honestly, I wish I had gotten the salmon to take home instead of the Haitian fried chicken. Now, that wasn't that great to me, and I didn't enjoy it :( I'm still giving them all the stars and all the props because I really appreciated the service. This was my first time trying a Haitian patty with spinach, and it was absolutely fantastic. I think it's even better than the chickpea one. I ordered the vegan platter whose black beans were smooth and piping hot, alongside the crispy fried tostones and meaty vegan meatballs. In fact the meatballs were so meat-like that neither my sister nor my husband could belief that they were made of jackfruit. The white rice was also extremely fluffy and moist and judging by the diligent rice-washing that was taking place behind the counter as we ate, I could tell that the staff really works hard to make it not just an afterthought, but a quality addition to the meal. My sister also really enjoyed her shrimp plate while my husband devoured his half-chicken platter. The sauces on our platters were also extremely flavorful, complementing the proteins in a beautiful way. All of us left Lakou Cafe feeling happy and satisfied with the portion sizes and level of quality. 10/10 I will definitely be heading back to this place the next time I'm in Brooklyn!
