Really used to love this place, but now I'm not so sure. Last few orders: Plain dosa and onion dosa were both stale, papery and hard to chew?! A disappointing experience. Chutneys were good. Sambhar hasn't had drumstick veg the last few times and has less of a full bodied flavor. It's mostly just salt. Underwhelming. The spice level is still good, though. (Warning: the food here is pretty spicy.) I had to soak the toughest parts of the dosa (and, to be honest, that was like 90% of the dosa) in the sambhar to get it to soften up. The gobi manchurian was inedible and I had to actually toss it out. It was beyond saving. I've been able to re-cook subpar takeout at home before and improve upon them, but that cauliflower was absolutely DOA. Absolutely no flavor, either. read more

Godavari was recommended to us by a local Woburn South Indian couple; what a treat it turned out to be. The luncheon buffet was excellent. It featured an assortment of Indian Chaat Apps, a wide variety of rice, dal, vegetable, shrimp chicken and a number dessert items. There were a number of dishes we have never had which were wonderfully vibrant tastes and exotic flavors. There were a number of chutneys like peanut, coconut and a yogurt one that were excellent and quite different from the onion, tamarind, mint and mango chutneys we've had else where. All in all this turned out to be a great experience, one I heartily endorse and think it is one of best we've been privilege to visit on our travels. read more

Came in Sunday for their lunch buffet. Restaurant is busy and was put on a waitlist saying they'll give us a call in 15-20mins when table is ready. Did not get a call so we decided to just go back and check in person. Turns out there no more waitlist and we can be seated right away, not sure why we didn't receive a call... there's a long table full of buffet items, stating w vegetarian options then meat dishes. There is a big distinction from going into the restaurant to eat and ordering out, its a hit or miss depending on who is cooking. I only eat fish and I ordered 2 Kakinada Special Fish and other Items yesterday. I give specific instructions to cook the fish fresh to order. I even stated wait for it to be cooked as I got sick a previous time I ordered it. One can tell that the fish is recooked cooked as the oil settles on the the fish and parts of the fish becomes hard, chewy like rubber and all you taste is oil and its burnt, see pictures.. Well I got sick again. This type of fish should be cook to order no precooked and recooked. I have been to many south Indian restaurants and this is the 1st restaurant that does this recook crap for this kind of fish; other restaurants always cooked to order. I'm not sure who cooks on Sunday and Monday but they do not pay any attention to the request on the ticket. I really like the whole Kakinada Special Fish when it's made right but I cannot afford to waist money and be sick because of the owners/cooks don't care. We mostly order dum goat biryani from Godavari and the taste+ texture has fluctuated. Other side dishes like Chicken 65, chicken lollipop are super flavorful. Curries have been good throughout. read more

Super nice service in a strip mall restaurant. Tasty South Indian dinner food went down well with a couple of King Fisher. The veggie cutlet, mamsam roast, tadka dal, biryani, guntur nan, and a lamb entree filled us up. I definitely will return. Maybe they didn't trust my appreciation for spice. My friends ordered mild and I ordered spicy. We shared everything and my orders where the least spicy but very tasty. read more

This is our got to place for authentic Hyderabadi food. We like their Chicken dum biryani, baby corn 777, chicken 65 & kodiveppudu. We tried their Indo Chinese food: Veg fried rice, Schezwan noodles and that was delicious as well. The servers are always very friendly and warm. read more

Their lunch buffet has a wide variety of veg and non-veg South Indian food. Unlike most Indian buffets, a lot of their selections have a good amount of heat to them. Every time I've gone, there have been different choices, and you'll find a lot of dishes that you won't find at most buffets. The only negative is the excessive waste generated by offering disposable styrofoam cups for the food, instead of dishes that can be washed. read more

I'm from California and visited Godavari - Woburn yesterday. I ordered the Chintha Chiguru Mutton Biryani. Unfortunately, the dish didn't sit well with me -- I experienced significant bloating afterward and had a very uncomfortable night with little sleep. It's possible that certain ingredients, like soda or amchur, may have caused a reaction. I usually enjoy spicy and flavorful food, but this experience was a bit concerning. I hope the restaurant can take a closer look at the ingredients used or perhaps provide more information for sensitive diners. read more

One of our Indian friends drove us here because he considers this the best Indian food in the area. Super flavorful and authentic South Indian cuisine, which uses slightly different spices than North Indian cuisine, which I think is more common. The food is pretty spicy but quite good. - Gobi Manchurian: cauliflower cooked in a spicy, East Asian-inspired sauce. Cauliflower was a bit soft. - Tawa prawns: grilled shrimp covered with spices. Really tasty, be prepared for spice! - I can't remember the name of this dish. Basically lentils and rice cooked in something resembling a pancake and rolled like a taco. Also very good. - A HUGE family-style dosa that was longer than my arm. Nice and crispy. I thought the chutneys that they came with were a bit bland though. - Goat curry: Super flavorful and spicy. Love the charming decor which adds to the experience of diving into the yummy meat dishes. I throughly enjoyed the shrimp and goat dishes on the menu. We've always enjoyed the weekend buffets here, but we finally got a chance to try the à la carte menu, and it was a fantastic experience. The food had such authentic flavors--my favorite was the mutton fry with a delightful hint of small onion. The restaurant's interiors really enhance the dining experience, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu is quite extensive, and we'll definitely need multiple visits to try everything we're eyeing. This is truly one of the best Indian restaurants in the Boston area! read more

We were in the area and wanted to eat biryani. It only made sense to come to Godavari! They were also open the day after Thanksgiving which was great. We ordered over the phone so that we could get takeout. The person taking our order said it might be 20 mins or so for the food to be ready but really it took like 10 mins, so that was quick. Back to the food. Instead of the traditional Hyderabadi dum biryani, we opted for the chicken biryani with mango pickle pieces. It turns out this biryani had boneless chicken pieces and they were so well marinated. There was ample of masala too which is how I like my biryani. The picture is misleading because you can only see the yellow rice on top, underneath is all masala and chicken pieces. Yum. The chicken gongura was also tasty. A little tangy but a very unique taste from other dishes, give it a try once. One thing to note is it was all spicy, and I mean spicyyyy (hence one star short in the review). I did request them while placing the order to make it mild but oh wow, there was spice. So for someone who is spice-averse, I would recommend opting for some other dishes which truly have no hint of spice. Wish Godavari was closer because I haven't had tastier biryani elsewhere in the Boston area! read more

Such a disappointing experience. I came here for their Sunday Lunch Buffett and the food was very bland, especially the Idli and Sambar. The service was equally poor as it felt like the wait staff did not want to be there and showed it in their behavior. We even noticed another large party who was kicked out for no reason when they weren't loud and just eating their meal and chatting. This is not how you get repeat customers. There are many better Indian restaurant alternatives that I'd recommend you all take your business to. read more

This is a run of the mill generic Indian place. The flavors are alright but nothing to die for. You'll find much better Indian food at more local restaurants. But if you absolutely must have a curry now, this place can work in a pinch. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with my recent experience at Godavari restaurant on 8.25.24 (receipt attached). The food served to our party was stale, undercooked, and lacked any discernible flavor. Furthermore, the behavior of one of your staff members, DEEPAK, was highly unprofessional and rude. Despite our group of 12 having paid for the buffet, Deepak insisted that we finish our meal within half an hour and leave, stating, 'Just eat and get out of here. This treatment was embarrassing, unexpected, and deeply upsetting for everyone in our party. To add to our dissatisfaction, we later discovered that a $54.00 tip and disguised as 'Service Charge' on a Buffet for 12 people on a weekend rate of $25.50. This was charged to our bill without our consent. We just found out after we came home, this is real obsurd! I strongly advise against dining at this restaurant if you wish to avoid unexpected charges and unprofessional service. I will also be filing a separate complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding this matter with this receipt. Attached is a copy of our receipt for reference. Overrated. I had this restaurant recommended to me by some coworkers, and it did not live up to the expectations. Food didn't have much flavor and I've had much better Indian food, this wasn't quality. I had the bahubhali thali and it was underwhelming. To me it emphasized and signified quantity over quality. Interior seemed outdated and old fashioned, not the best environment. Although it was busy, service was nice and quick. Overall, I would not recommend this as a need to try Indian restaurant in Massachusetts, and I do not plan on revisiting as it has nothing special to offer. I was sooooo hungry and craving Indian. We've eaten delicious Indian food all around Boston, Waltham, Lexington, Watertown, but since he was in Woburn, my husband ordered from here. Ugh. OMG! Just found my new favorite Indian restaurant!!! Great decor and ambiance. Good service. But the food is really, really good! One of the rare places where they can actually make it as spicy as you like! We had several dishes. One of them (the Chicken Chettinadu) was extra spicy and delicious! Now, one word of caution: The chicken tandoori (kodi tandoori) was undercooked. Raw/raw-ish chicken, that would be a unforgivable, in my book... But, I liked that place so much that I'm willing to let this one slide. I will go back, but simply won't order any chicken tandoori dish anymore. (And, "Strike one" though.) The selection tends itself well towards presentation of indian cuisine (with south indian flavor profile) to non-indian friends in an eclectic and charming setting. 2 stars because we have to give credit for the food but the service was terrible. Sat at our table for 15 minutes before someone even came to talk to us no menu's or anything. They have an excellent menu of South Indian specials, especially from a region called Godavari. I like their biryanis and Manchurian items. Their items have good flavor and deep spices! Definitely satisfies cravings of a spice lover. Amongst many other items on their menu.. Sambhar rice always stands out for me. Spicy, lill sweet but also has ghee to balance the flavors.. Yumm! Ambience of this place is OK but As someone who grew up in India.. This place brings back so many memories from my childhood. The restaurant itself has been decorated with those cherished Indian pieces. Probably the management changed or they grew really big to have the same focus as earlier, either the reason, the food quality and their service have terribly dropped. I went in for a weekend lunch buffet based on their fancy ad on Facebook about authentic dishes for that weekend. Turns out that I fell for their amazing sales strategy. The items were neither tasty nor great. All the food completed lacked the flavor that Godavari is known for. There were barely any appetizers for a buffet! Overall, a big disappointment. read more

This place has been on and off in terms of quality for sometime now. But this was the last nail in the coffin. My wife and I went to Godavari for a pre-Ramadan Meal and ended up getting severe Food Poisoning on the first day of Ramadan. This was upsetting in many ways, but this time it made both of us seriously ill. Stay away from this place. read more

Quite possibly the best Indian buffet I have ever had. Godavari uses the freshest ingredients, properly and without sparing expense. On the weekends the regular buffet is expanded to a lavish all in affair. The vegetarian options alone are more than most larger buffets put out. Many of the selections greatly vary from the traditional offerings. Yet the traditional offerings are plentiful! My favorites today were the goat curry (no surprise here), the mango shrimp curry and the mango milk shake. This is a hard core Indian buffet in a very snappy, bright and cheerful local. There are few English translations and to be honest I did not know what everything that was offered or was eating was. I do know it was excellent and that I'll be back Godarvi has sunk a bit. I'll give it 4 for the great memories but the last three times I have been here it has been mediocre to sub par. They may have lost the chef or have new management . I'm not sure.
