Note - this is for their delivered food and the delivery service. They use grubhub with free delivery and have a fairly expansive delivery menu. Ordered their vegetarian dinner for 1 sampler. Really sumptuous array of lentil soup, peas and cheeses, chick peas, cauliflower plus potatoes, yogurt chutney (raita), rice pudding (dessert), Naan, rice pilaf, and diced onions in vinegar. So this is plenty of food for one. However the minimum is $20 sans tax and tip so need to add at least one more side or app. Went for vegetarian samosas. Samosas are packed with tamarind sauce. Samosas were fresh and not retired or reheated. Everything was in order; yellow lentil soup was - well too soupy, that's about it. Ordering can take up to 70 minutes but mine was delivered in about an hour. Recommend order well in advance. read more

Nothing less than one star? That's too bad. We just suffered through the absolute WORST Indian food (and worst PostMates order) I have ever encountered. I mean... BLECH. The Chicken Tikka Masala was watery, with dry chunks of chicken and a predominant flavor of... well, just salt. The Lamb Roganjosh was watery and tasted like... salt. To be fair, this dish had undertones of ginger, but they were overwhelmed by salt. The Saag Paneer, on the other hand, had the texture of late-cold mucus, with cold lumps of flavorless cheese, and tasted like... salt (not a hint of spinach flavor). The garlic naan was rubbery and flavorless. And then there was the Chicken Biriyani, one of my favorite dishes in the world... till tonight, that is. Ever had a boxed rice pilaf mix that someone cooked too long? Yeah? Well, add some turmeric for color, and you have it. This meal was absolutely horrific. Do yourself a favor, and steer well clear. Years ago, I had a friend living within walking distance of Joti Palace, and I would get their lunch buffet from time to time. I could not find any current references to that on their website, but I see many reviews mention it. The buffet was relatively small, nothing fancy, but it was reasonable food at a reasonable price. I'm betting it hasn't changed much. Last night, I was visiting friends who live a bit farther away, and we ordered take-out from Joti Palace, because they were within the delivery range. The amount of time they quoted for the meal to arrive - 80 minutes - seemed a bit high, but considering the amount of food we ordered on a Friday evening, plus delivery, we decided it was reasonable. In fact, the food arrived about 30 minutes earlier than quoted. The entrees held up reasonably well and came with more than an adequate amount of rice. The chicken in the chicken tikka masala was tender, but the sauce was quite a bit lighter in color than at many other restaurants at which I've ordered it (more creamy than tomato). The lamb in the lamb dishes was also tender but slightly fatty. But all the entrees were still quite tasty. The samosas were still crisp and hot. The pakoras did not hold up as well. The garlic naan was the most dissatisfying, quite chewy, and difficult to pull apart. I've never had a bad meal from Joti Palace, but I also can't say that I've ever had anything there about which to rave. It's decent, basic food at decent price. read more

Recommend:-. Never order a non veg Thali. Had a non-veg Thali and it really bad and chicken tandoori is awful. It's a chicken just cooked in oven. The 1st time we ordered from their it was not the best but it was eatable and it was on par with the reviews. (Not the best) but we decided to give them a 2nd try and we ordered chicken masala, meat samosas, garlic nan, and it came with rice which I didn't order not sureif they charged me for it and we got papadum too. I was disappointed to see that it did indeed take the full estimated 60-70 minutes for delivery even though it's just a few minutes drive from me on a weekday evening. Also the driver parked down/across the street and I had to go down to meet him in the rain, less ideally than I had envisioned when ordering from my couch. Despite now being starving and slightly soggy, my order was fresh and hot, correct, and flavorful, though admittedly I have little experience with authentic Indian food so I can't speak to that, only that I enjoyed it. If you ever want to feel like your dining in your Indian auntie's house, this is the place to go. For atmosphere you have to be into the idea of a local no-frills place with lots of charm. The same Family works this place that has since I first came here, four years ago. Naan is hot & as desired, all food items come bubbling in beautiful ornate silver bowls with sides of rice if needed. Highlights for me have always been: Somoza Chaat, Chicken Tikka Misala, Naan basket. Also THE WINE! Great red wine by the glass for 3.50! My mother loves they offer Chablis! The service is always beyond attentive, the food is always simply good Indian, the feeling I get when I walk in the door is that of walking into someone's home. Delivery guy absolutely refuses to bring the item to my door and I've ordered three times, hoping it might change. There is no other Indian delivery to me so this was the only option. I live in an apartment. That's what your tip is for- to deliver. If I wanted to go downstairs to my car I would have driven myself to pick up my products. I never have issues with door deliveries from other companies I've ordered from. In addition to that, it takes forever to get to the house. It's lukewarm when I receive it. Rude, lazy, mediocre Indian and definitely not to the standards of Indian food I've had across the country. I told them over the phone I'd never order from them again and I meant it. So damn tasty. Although this place doesn't look like much from the outside the food is pretty damn good. It was amazing to hear that they can make anything vegan which is a plus of course. I actually think the food from here is pretty good. The vindaloo is good and unique, it's almost tangy! The nann, especially garlic is good, and the tikka masala is a bit americanized but still delicious. Coming from Somerville with about 10 Indian places to order from, we now have just this one that delivers to us in Malden. This one does the trick and is way better than Indian Palace was in Somerville (still doesn't top dosa n' curry) However, we ordered from them tonight and this is the second time it's taken almost an hour and a half to get our food (and still counting). This isn't acceptable. I can see an hour, but it's a TUESDAY night and it's now almost 9:30 (over 20 minutes after the 'expected' delivery time). I have tried this restaurant several times in the last 2-3 years and they are pretty much consistent with food quality and service. Don't expect to walk in here for great ambiance with multiple TV's and music, you will be bit disappointed with the no frills looks of its old interiors but the food taste overcomes all other aesthetic appeal. They offer crispy papad as starter which is really fantastic. I ordered veg thali, they prepared it to my liking of spice levels and yum.. enjoyed eating after days of hard work. Whenever I get a craving for Indian food, I think of Joti Palace. I've never been disappointed by their food. The lunch buffet is excellent. Whenever I get Indian food anywhere else (because I'm not in the area), I typically find myself comparing it to Joti Palace. If you do decide to eat here, be prepared to be lonely, however. More often than not, all of the tables have been empty when I've gone in. It's a shame; the food is great! My only real complaint is the parking situation (there's hardly ever any parking space in front of the restaurant on the street). If you can, take the bus. If you do end up driving and can't find any parking on Main Street, try parking a couple blocks away in Malden Square--worth the short walk! read more
