I recently started working back downtown, so I've had the chance to try a few spots near my office. I've passed Goddess and the Baker so many times and finally decided to stop in. Luckily, I signed up for the app and received $10 off my first order. I tried the tiramisu latte, which was amazing, along with a breakfast croissant sandwich that was really tasty. I also loved the jelly they served with it. The café was pretty busy, so next time I'll definitely order ahead. The space itself was spacious and cute, with a really nice atmosphere. It's a little pricey, but worth it as an occasional treat. They also had a great variety of pastries that looked delicious. read more

The sweet matcha was good! It was very smooth and tasted grassy in a good way. It wasn't TOO sweet. The mango mint lemonade was very refreshing. It was quite nice Half kale apple half ginger tonic is very nice! It has a good healthy taste and a ginger tinge. The pumpkin loaf was good but plain. It wasn't bad at all it just has room for improvement The chicken supreme tasted like food from the freezer into oven. Which of course is what most food is, but that's not what it should taste like. There is a good flavor there, but it's hidden by the freezer note. The pumpkin croissant was kind of dense. It tasted good but the actual croissant part Was A bit too dense for a croissant I believe. The actual pumpkin part was a little sweet, but it was decent. Maybe if it was warmed up it would taste better. Also, maybe if the croissant was flakier and thinner it would be less dense and easier to eat. read more

I love the Goddess brand, usually I go to the one on Wabash but I'll have to check this one out more as it is much more spacious for indoor and outdoor seating. A small wait to get a drink but it's busy and they work hard for good quality. We need more of them everywhere! read more

This location has great outdoor seating. The staff were efficient. I had the Cobb salad. The ingredients were fresh but I wish it had a little more flavor. The goddess dressing was just okay to me. I also had an iced tea. The tea was fresh with something herbal in it. My only complaint was the cost for how tiny it was! I can't recommend for that reason. *First timer* this place is awesome! I just happened to cross it when I was walking to my meeting destination. There was a lot of people in line so I thought I'd give it a try. Good coffee shop. The line gets super long and crazy and when you order, there's really no space to stand around, it's sort of chaotic at times. I went on a non busy day, so it wasn't too crazy. I've had food from other Goddess and the Baker locations, so when I saw it on DoorDash while in town for work recently, I decided to order a salad for my lunch. I was looking for something healthy and wanted to try something different than my usual Sweetgreen. I got the kale crunch salad (grilled chicken, rainbow kale, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, blue cheese, sliced apples, and toasted almonds with honey mustard dressing and parm crackers). When the salad arrived, I was surprised at the "parm crackers" which were more like... flaky flat biscuits. They were tasty but not quite what I expected. I really liked the honey mustard dressing, and the chicken was tender and not overcooked. I did have a few chunks of Brussels sprouts stems that were inedible but otherwise the salad itself was pretty good and the ingredients seemed fresh. read more

Rise-n-Shine Muffin (vegan and gluten free) is an excellent choice for a satisfying bakery item. Perfectly topped with sugar crystals, seeds and toasted coconut. The muffin has bits of zucchini in it, so it is very moist and what I think is the perfect amount of sweetness (not overwhelming). Very "fluffy" for a gluten free item. As do most gluten free items, the muffin doesn't hold together once you cut into it or break it apart. The strawberry matcha latte with oat milk was fair... decent strawberry purée, but the cup was barely 3/4 full, also ordered the drink extra hot and it was far from hot, let alone extra hot Service was good, and the interior clean. read more

One of 3 locations downtown, this one is housed in the northeast corner of 181 W Madison. It's got a revolving door entrance, relieving you in front of a neon logo. If you glance left, you'll notice the floral mural adorning a wall, but looking right, you'll first notice the pastries on display. Menu screens display a rather diverse selection of items, but if you need to squint in a brief line, there are menu pamphlets that the staff there offer up. Seating here is ample and comfy. There is plenty of counter seating lining the windows, as well as several interior seating options tucked away. If you bring a laptop to do some work, note that there are a couple signs posted requesting to limit your time to no more than an 1 hour. If you're looking for gluten free options, they offer to make any sandwich with gluten-free bread. The bonus is that bread is reminiscent of a croissant. After ordering, you'll be handed a number, and the staff will bring out the food to you. What we've tried so far: 1. Golden Milk--essentially a spiced tumeric almond milk latte with additional pink peppercorn, ginger, allspice, lemongrass, and black pepper incorporated. If you like turmeric and spices, you'll enjoy this. 2. Tuna Croissant Melt--but with their gluten-free bread instead of a croissant. Features tuna with cranberries, capped with a melted slice of cheddar, and topped off with some of those pink pickled onions. What's nice about this is their gluten free bread slices actually give off a croissant vibe, which I thought was pretty impressive. 3. Chicken Tinga--a scoop of tinga de pollo, accompanied by two eggs, caramelized onion, poblano and jalapeño, as well as avocado with cojita and some sour cream. 4 miniature tortillas come with. Pretty comfortable food, and satisfying flavor combos if you ask me. 4. Almond Croissant--they offered to warm it up and bring it out. it's adorned with almonds on the exterior and some almond paste within. You get almond, croissant, and sweetness from the marzipan within. Croissant-wise, in terms of the structure, it's fine (actually on the denser side), so I'd say it's a good-ish croissant, but not a great one. 5. Shakshuka Danish--dry version of shakshuka in danish form (egg, peppers, tomato). No complaints here. 6. Avocado Toast--it has its very own section on the menu. What's nice about it? The avocado seems lemony, but it is also topped with arugula and some radish slices. But what brings the flavor out is the contra cheese sprinkled on top, accompanied by chili flakes and seeds. It's quite nice atop their sourdough. 7. Garden Goddess Wrap--pretty much think of a veggie wrap, where the dressing is tart and savory. Features carrots, hummus, avocado, cucumber, tomato, beets, and lots of arugula. Plus their goddess dressing. If you like these veggies, you'll be fine. On busy days, they are able to maintain speed, accuracy, and order within the store. On St Patrick's day, they'll guide you to where in the store to line up, and they're surprisingly speedy. Something like barely a couple minutes before one of the things you've ordered comes out. I appreciate their quickness and super friendly staff. Note, they have a pinball machine in the back, and two bathrooms. When it's busy, you'll probably wait in line for the bathroom. read more

Visited on a late Saturday morning. Some people but not too busy. Outside patio seating available - there's seats inside as well. Got a cold brew and there were plenty of non dairy options (oat, almond, macadamia) as well as dairy options. I appreciated that and it was tasty with my added oat milk. If the flavor profile is just right, I skip anything in my cold brew but this one needed it. Personal preference! Got the breakfast sandwich and they had plenty of bread options but I had to ask (cashier didn't prompt to ask what kind of bread I wanted it on). A solid place in the loop to beat the afternoon slump with a coffee and sweet treat! During the week, the shop can get super busy at mealtimes, so I would recommend visiting in mid-morning or afternoon if you want to snag a seat and avoid a wait. They have an impressive pastry case with seasonal items and an extensive specialty beverage menu. While everything looked delicious, I ordered the berry mini bundt cake and a drip coffee. The cake was actually filled with a strawberry-rhubarb compote that tasted homemade. The outside was lightly glazed and slightly crispy with a super soft, buttery and fresh interior that melted in the mouth. The coffee also had a nice flavor (bonus points for Metropolis beans) that perfectly complemented the sweet pastry. I can't testify to the kitchen menu, but I will definitely be back to try more of the pastries at least. Definitely recommend to those in the area! read more

It is important to note that there is no entrance from 181 W Madison and the only door is in the front. I wish I knew this sooner as I made a loop through the building to find this out. I order the oatmeal and a blueberry matcha online while en route to the office. After getting settled at my desk I head out to pick up my breakfast. 1. I was not greeted when entering this location. 2. I could not find the pick up your food section. It was not labeled and no one offered to direct me to the proper location even though I was clearly not finding what I was looking for. 3. The staff was so interested in their side conversations that they barely pointed me in the right direction after asking for help. 4. Upon picking up my bag there was no spoon for the oatmeal. I had to ask again. 5. When looking at my matcha drink there was no straw in the bag. I had to ask again. The oatmeal met my expectations but I'm not sure how much brown sugar was actually added. The matcha was decent. The service was so poor I don't think I'll spend $20 again on breakfast here. I'll find some place my money is appreciated by the staff. read more

We woke up a little bit late on a Saturday and had some time to enjoy a cup of coffee and some bakery items. As we were leaving the hotel, some guests were enjoying some food and we asked where they had gotten it and they confirmed our choice of goddess in the Baker. A bit of a line to get ordered but great service. I had the egg ham and cheese biscuit which was incredible. The sauce that they put on the sandwich really sets it off and the ham is salty yet sweet and delicious. We sat in a window seat And were able to enjoy the sunshine even on a pretty cold day. We decided to walk in as our room wasn't ready at the hotel we were staying at. I was surprised by the menu as well as the availability of said items. As we weren't too hungry, we decided to order a latte and an iced oat chai. Also, we went early enough in the morning to avoid the crowds! We also ordered 2 apple treats. One was a galette or tart and the other was a muffin of sorts. We thought it was a single store not knowing it is a small chain, but it was nice to break out of the norm from Los Angeles. Such a cute cafe! +1000 brownie points for the great music. They have tasty pastries and drinks. All the employees were really friendly and kind. There are many seats with outlets, bar tops and big tables/smaller tables so it's an ideal place to go work on your own or to meet with friends. The interior is very clean, modern and esthetic. Great place for all your social media photos ;) Got the fresh fruit tart, espresso cheesecake bar and iced matcha latte with macadamia nut milk. The crust on the tart was a little hard and the cheesecake tasted a tiny bit powdery but still good nonetheless. I appreciate that both the food items and drinks we got weren't overly sweet. The staff are always very nice and you're in-and-out very quickly. I really liked that they had all the milks and creamers at a separate counter - I'm very particular about how much half&half goes in my coffee, so this was a huge plus fo me. read more

The atmosphere here is quite stylish. Everything has a clean look with a gold lining. The long booth provides comfortable seating as well. The cookies and cream liquid chocolate was quite tasty, but most of the cup was whipped cream. The breakfast sandwich was nothing special, all of the ingredients tasted standard. I would have liked the bacon to be a little crispier. I'd come here again to try the baked goods since I'm sure that is more their specialty than breakfast sandwiches. I'm sad to say that I was disappointed in my purchases today. Many years ago I visited a different location and got delicious cake, that I still think about. So, when I was back in town years later, and there was one near my hotel, I was excited. I went in early Sunday morning, and grabbed 4 muffins and a strawberry shortcake biscuit, plus an Americano. The coffee was good, the shortcake was lack luster. The muffins were crumbly (especially the Mocha almond)and bland. The chocolate was dry, but the other 3 were moistI was so disappointed, as we split up the muffins to try the 4 flavors. The blueberry was the best of the bunch, but the blueberry flavor wasn't very prominent. I don't know if I'll ever stop in a Goddess And The Baker again. I also want to note, the only cake sold by the slice was carrot or rainbow (might have been the only cake they had at all). Beautiful decor, nice seating inside or outside. Staff seamed pretty friendly, the baked goods were just disappointing. Sad. **** Edit, I looked at my receipt and I see the muffins could have been Vegan and or Gluten Free. This would account for the texture and flavor issues. I'll pay attention in the future, apparently I need gluten and butter and eggs in my baked goods. I will say, I think gluten free items should be kept away from gluten items, as I have a friend that is so sensitive to gluten.
