I wanted to like this place so much! I am new to this building, and was excited to see the great reviews and the fact that they have a happy hour. I regret to share that after trying them a couple times, I find myself less than impressed. Speaking with others working in the building, they generally share my sentiment. The one thing I want to give them credit for is their pastries. These are of high quality, flaky, fresh tasting, and not sugar bombs. Alas, I then made the mistake of ordering breakfast, and then later an appetizer at happy hour. So... For breakfast, I got a combo which consisted of eggs, meat, bread, and potatoes. The eggs were more of a over-hard than over-medium, but after spending some time in the container, this could have been radiant heat of everything else - in others words, forgivable. What isn't forgivable is that the potatoes had three times the normal amount of salt. Before you say yikes, I have a bigger one for you: the chicken sausage; this was burnt to the point of charcoal! Yikes. Then came a different visit at happy hour. I wanted to order the first item on the drink menu, but they were out of an ingredient. I wanted to order the second, but they were ALSO out of an ingredient. The drink the bartender made me was good, but not what I initially wanted, or the backup I wanted to it. As for an app, I ordered the spiral potato, which failed as bad as the breakfast. First, it was cooked inconsistently, with the inside being underdone. Worse still, it too had an obscene amount of salt. A case when I sent food back. Final verdict: I will give T.G.E.C. credit for great pastries, but that is where I have to stop. While the prices are somewhat reasonable, in exchange one gets WAY oversalted and overdone or underdone food. See a drink you like on the menu... they don't have it. At this rate, I rather go elsewhere, for the area is far from a desert. read more

This is a wonderful spot for grabbing lunch with coworkers or a quick drink/pastry. The food is freshly made and the prices are affordable for downtown. I ordered a chicken pesto sandwich, and it came with a side salad. The salad was delicious, and I enjoyed the pesto on the sandwich. However, the chicken was dry and not very flavorful. My coworkers really enjoyed the tortilla soup and the housemade sodas. I also ordered a 77 Fog Latte, which is their version of a london fog and it was solid. The ambiance is clean and open. There is a lot of natural light that comes into the restaurant. I think this would be a great place to study or do work. Service was quick and friendly. I would come again. read more

Trivia: While The Good Eating Company is technically open at 10:43, what can you not get? I imagine this is the type of place that gets a ton of business from the many workers in the building. It's a full stop shop; - coffee and pastries for the morning - lunch entrees - lots of snacks to go But sleeping on this bistro would be a mistake. My entire experience was excellent. (Minus having to wait 17 minutes for the crossover to lunch) The sandwich a good mix of crispy and meaty. The fries, the same. The portions were large enough to be filling while small enough that I didn't feel I was over eating. Lots of natural light and a cozy outdoor dining area. read more

The modern space looks like it could be great for work. Theres great lighting and spacious tables. There's two rooms, but the back room has the music too loud at times. At times, the WiFi has been spotty which I don't understand because it's located in an office building which should have good connectivity. The coffee has been pretty decent and I appreciate that they will give it to you in proper mugs when stay. I've gotten food a few times, but been pretty disappointed. It's fairly bland and boring. If you stick to work and coffee here, it's a decent wfh spot. read more

Near the end of our week in Chicago, not having found a decent breakfast spot, we found The Good Eating Company. Finally! Excellent food, great coffee (if you've seen my reviews, you know I'm a coffee snob), friendly and fast service and wonderful atmosphere. They have it all. My wife ordered a croissant egg sandwich with bacon on the side and I had the chorizo egg scramble. Two Americanos topped it off. We. Will. Be. Back. Great spot a short walk from our hotel. ------- Day 2: I ordered the croissant and my wife ordered the Shaksuka. Croissant is SO flaky! The Shaksuka has a good kick. Another win! ----- Day 3: Final day in Chicago. My wife had the croissant again (amazingly flaky and fresh). I tried the Just Breakfast with sausage. Also very good. It would have been splittable. Our server all three days was Arias and he was most hospitable! Recommended a coffee shop in Portland we will try when we get home. read more

We decided to come here for a WFH and study session, and it turned out to be the perfect spot on a beautiful Chicago day. The espresso macchiato was great, and while the banana bread was a bit on the dry side, it was packed with flavor. If you're looking for a chill place downtown to grab lunch or get some work done, this is definitely the spot. The cafe has plenty of seating both in the front and back, but if you're into natural light, the front area is ideal. It's bright, spacious, and has outlets and WiFi, making it super convenient for working. The WiFi can be a little spotty at times, but overall, it's still a great place to be productive. We ended up spending quite a bit of time here and got a lot done. Highly recommend it! Also, it's just a 1-minute walk to the Riverwalk, which makes it a great spot to take a quick break and enjoy the views. Perfect location for getting some work done and then stepping outside for a bit of fresh air! read more

My review is just for the coffee only since I haven't tried any of their food yet, but I stopped by for an afternoon coffee and had a great experience. The staff is very friendly and the space is great for remote work or studying. I got espresso on ice and it was smooth and not bitter. It was very affordable and I liked the variety of sweeteners at the coffee bar as well. Also super close to the river walk. read more

I visited Chicago for the beautiful architecture and happen to find this small gem in the middle of the city. Such beautiful and relaxing atmosphere and fresh tasty food. Refreshing but filling salads, drinks . There are a variety of dishes for all pallets . We ended up visiting a couple of times during our visit and will continue to frequent this beautiful spot for our next visit to the Windy City. read more

My brother and I grabbed lunch here on a weekday and this place did not disappoint! He got the avocado toast and I had the brusselsprouts with chicken. Everything was freshly made and delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean, decorated beautifully, and I need to add that the chairs were so comfortable. This delightful lunch spot is in my building. So glad it's great, fresh and healthy as well as being convenient. Great hot and cold brew coffee. They have all kinds of milk options for your coffee which is nice. Note that the portions are on the smaller side, which works for me at lunchtime and also keeps prices reasonable. They have daily specials which are larger if you are really hungry. Or, if you have a bigger appetite get fries or a soup plus a salad / sandwich. The staff is kind and accommodating. read more

I tried the Hen House sandwhich with fries and I'm in love! The fries were crunchy and nicely seasoned. They came with a garlic aioli and I ate every bit of that sauce with my fries. Also ordered a cucumber lime sparkler that was light and refreshing. Will come back to try more out on their menu! read more
