I already got the shocks from a friend that works at a dealership in Quincy. When I made the appointment the owner informed me he didn't really want to install other peoples supplies and preferred to supply and install his own equipment, which is fair. He told me he would do it this time only, I said great and if there was anything else that needed to be done just go ahead and do it. He call when the truck was ready, I went and paid my bill not paying much attention to it. (Extra needed work was done) When I got in my truck I noticed my shocks were still in the box not used on the back seat. When I asked about it, he claimed he wasn't there and someone else did the work. He didn't even offer to try and make it right, so much for customer service. I will never go back. The service representative was straightforward and courteous and agreed that the ball joint needed replacement. He made no attempt to upsell my son or tell him that additional repair work was needed when it was not required. I went here for an engine oil change today and it was a very pleasant experience! All you have to…read moredo is drive into the shop and you don't even have to get out of the car. In 20 minutes, they did basic car checks (tire pressure, checking the battery, air filters, etc) and changed my oil. When they did check my filters, they took them out and showed them to me directly how clean or dirty they were. At the end, they also showed me the dipstick for the engine oil to show that they filled it up. I appreciated this since I know people are weary of being scammed or ripped off by mechanics. They were professional and while they did recommend some optional work be done for an additional fee, they weren't too pushy about it and I feel like they were honest. FYI there is a 20% off coupon on the Yelp page or just check out the main Valvoline website for a discount (I got $25 off).

I am hugely disappointed however, that although I told Robin I wanted to spend as little as possible because I had had another expensive fix a few weeks before, she never asked if I had a coupon. (There was a coupon on their website for $50 off anything over $750). I did have the coupon, already printed off, but being distracted by our conversation about her dog, I forgot to hand it to her. I was told over the phone what the issue was with my car and authorized the fix over the phone. So I was not present when the bill was written up. When I picked my car up just before they closed (early because it was a Friday and they had nothing else to do) I was again distracted with conversation with Robin (she is a talker, which was also something I had liked from previous visits) I didn't realize until I got home that the coupon was still in my bag. I called the next morning and got a customer service rep at Meineke. I explained the situation and she said it would be no problem. She would contact them on Monday and they would honor the coupon and credit my card. When the credit was not made to my card, I followed up with Robin. I explained my conversation with the Meineke rep and was met with a very rude, reactive response. "You didn't give it to me when I wrote up the invoice! We have signs all over the office that day you have to present the coupon when I write up the invoice! I can take a picture of them and show you!" "I wouldn't even know how to give you back money" (you run a business and don't know how to process a refund? I highly doubt that!) " I would have to delete the whole thing and start over and I'm not doing that! I can show you the signs that say you have to present it when the invoice is being written up!" Clearly to her, not refunding me $50 (off an almost $1000 bill) was worth losing a customer. Needless to say, I won't go back there.

Berlin's shop was very experienced, carefully reviewed the scope and quoted prior to doing the work so I could prioritize and schedule services accordingly. I am very happy with the work quality, the shop interaction and value is unmatched. I have owned and driven BMWs and Hondas on the south shore for over 30 years and I am grateful for the quality and integrity of this shop!! The owner is professional, experienced and invested in his work and service level and value is far above the level of service at my Honda and BMW dealers where the past few years particularly dealer mis-diagnosing and overselling services is standard, ie last year when I simply needed a new battery from autozone on my Honda CRV the dealer diagnosed a $2,500 bs job which I declined. BMW dealer diagnostic and repair quote was also totally nuts, but that's par for the BMW service course so you need to establish a great independent service shop and Berlins Garage works for both vehicles.
