I decided to stop in for lunch and I wish I didn't. I live in the Richmond neighborhood of the city and there are so many great places I've been to like kitaro. First of all I loved the the Godzilla themed decorations, it was retro and captures the essence of Japanese Kaiju culture. They also sell merch if you're interested in that! I was looking for a place to watch the warriors final and luckily I stumbled across this place!! Godzila sushi is a laid back sushi spot with bar and regular seating. (No outdoor seating) Only one bathroom Our server was very kind and so hard working! So was the chef!! It took us a while to get our dishes but it was well worth it. We ordered the miso soup (8/10) lacked a little flavor, the sake and maguro niri (10/10) soooo delicious! It tasted so fresh. The only thing I would like to note is that the rolls came apart easily. Usually theyre more compact but it was a minor detail. Still delicious! We got the Cindy, Destroyah roll and Tinky Winy roll. The were all honestly so delicious but I HIGHLY recommend the tinky winky and cindy roll (SO GOOD) We ordered hot sake and the Asahi beer. I really enjoyed drinking the Asahi. Came here late night, hour before closing. They were able to accommodate my dog at the bar seating area, but not in the regular seating which was completely fine! Was a nice vibe, small place. Looking at the reviews it seems to be a hit or a miss for everyone. We had a definite hit with our group if 5. Got a table right away and service was a little slow but that's OK. They only had 1 lady working all the tables and taking care of the to go/food delivery orders. We got 5 different rolls and they were delivered quicker than we thought. All were super good but the spicy mayo was too hot for me. I really liked the Honey roll but all the food was great. If I'm ever in the area again this will be where I eat sushi. As a kid, my mom and dad used to take us to the little hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant in SoCal. My mom, a Navy brat, had spent 6 formative years as a kid in Japan; and having fallen in love with the country, the culture, and the food, her eventual six sons were reared eating all sorts of Japanese cuisine. Growing up, we had a few go-to sushi spots that combined respectable quality, friendly service (aside: haven't met a Japanese restaurant proprietor yet that did anything less than GUSH about our family of six boys!), and affordable price (gonna say it again... family of eight. Do the math...). As the years went by, some of those places closed down, unable to compete with trendy up and coming designer sushi restaurants catering to bougie couples who were decidedly UNimpressed by a family of eight (well-behaved, by the way) eating next to them at their "new date place." All that to say, little spots like Godzila sushi are harder to find these days, and something of a gem when you do happen upon one, especially when it ain't your town. When it comes to sushi, I tend not to order fancy-named rolls marketed with puns or local sports teams, but stick to the basics: nigiri mainly. Service for a $3-5/pair sushi joint was amazing. I ordered my usual hamachi, sake, tako, ikura, maguro, unagi... all the good stuff. Everything was great, with pretty fast turn around on the prep, even though they were a little busy during my visit. As someone who has doodled on napkins and school notebooks and professional development handouts and tax return documents and... you get the idea... my whole life, I appreciated the little napkin art decor of previous guests. Somewhere in the North Bay, there's an Islands with my napkin art on the wall. My eyes were actually a little big for my stomach, and I ended up taking a little box to go... I always get hungry at night in the hotel room when I travel for work. Knowing full well that the City is somewhat notorious for conspicuous consumption, opulent dining, and discretionary spending accounts that are as bottomless as the Mimosas cleverly disguised on the receipt as "chile rellenos." But here, again, is a delightful, modest little place that takes me back to happy childhood moments with my brothers and parents. Even if we occasionally got sent to the car for rubbing wasabi in each other's eyes at the dinner table. read more

Been coming to this place since 2017 since its nearby where I would work. My coworker and I would come here at least once a week pre covid because of the good deals and delicious rolls. Their food is consistent and tasty plus their custom service is impeccable and they are very attentive. Additionally, I like how fast they are when preparing our food since we have to go back to work right after eating. I usually gravitate towards their lunch specials and I either get the bento box or udon meal since each lunch special comes with a roll of your choice. Their rolls are pretty good and I've tried almost every roll and really enjoy their fried rolls. Some of my favorites are typical go tos such as philly roll, rock'n roll, kamikazi roll, spider roll, green godzilla roll, and their fried rolls. Love the Godzilla decor and theme! I come here very often (a couple times a week) since it's right down the street from my work. My go-to lunch order is the Vegetable Udon which comes with a choice of sushi and side salad. I usually go for the California Roll or the Rock n' Roll -- both are delicious! The California Roll is probably one of the best I've had; they definitely don't skimp on the faux crab meat. The udon is my absolute favorite! I often crave a warm soup being in chilly SF. The flavor is delicious and it always leaves me full and satisfied. Since I only order takeout on weekdays, I can't speak to how crowded it can get on the weekends. But when I drop by around lunchtime, the crowd is hit or miss. Some days the server looks like she's running everywhere trying to fill orders, and other days it's completely empty. I would probably suggest calling ahead if you are planning on a sit down meal to see how full it is since it's not a very big space. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Came here for the Godzilla theme but left frustrated and disappointed because of the long wait time and bad rolls. The wait was unbearably long -- it took us an hour and a half to receive all 5 of our rolls. We didn't get our first roll until 45 minutes in then got one roll staggered every ~15 minutes after. My boyfriend and I never got a roll at the same time. There were only 2 other tables (that both got there after us) so it's inexplicable why it took so long. They also forgot one of my rolls, making the wait time even longer. What made it even more frustrating was that 2 separate people came in at least 20 minutes after us and ordered takeout on the spot and both got their entire orders before we even got our first roll. The food itself was also bad. The edamame was terrible. I ordered two avocado rolls and a veggie tempura roll and they were the worst rolls I've ever had. The avocado in the rolls was browning and both were just not good at all. My boyfriend ordered the King Kong roll and the Spicy Salmon roll, and he thought they were both mediocre (although the King Kong roll was better in terms of flavor). They were also not well made -- many pieces of both of our rolls fell apart when we tried to pick them up. My boyfriend also found a hair in his sushi. The only thing they executed well was the Godzilla theme; everything else was absolutely terrible. read more

These guys make some bomb sushi rolls! Super fresh fish, really friendly service, and big pieces of meat in each bite. My favorites are the Tinky Winky (salmon, scallop, shiso & a few other things) and the Kamikaze with salmon & avocado. The prices can't be beat either. I'm glad these guys have figured out how to stay open through the pandemic. Calling in an order to takeout is quick and easy, it's usually ready in 10 minutes. I'm looking forward to indoor dining again when it's safe to dk so, but for now I'm going to keep picking up rolls whenever I'm passing through that part of the city. Simple yet clean. Service was excellent. We were pleasantly surprised at the freshness of the Sashimi pieces of Maguro and Sake. The Cindy Roll was a standout. The California Roll was tiny and a bit dry. The Agadashi Tofu was well done in its texture but the sauce was a bit too salty. Tempura Appetizer was fried well and choice of vegetables were great. Pretty bad experience. I was to meet my work friend there for lunch. I walked in and wasn't greeted. Then the server just stood there didn't bring water. We had to keep waving at her just to order the food. Not that she was busy, she just stood there the entire time. It seemed like that she wasn't with it. It wasn't the worse. She brought me the wrong food. I ordered salmon bento, but she gave me chicken. I figured to just keep the chicken because I don't have time for the trouble. Their food isn't good. had worse spicy tuna rolls ever. Here comes the worst, she brought the check and charged extra $1 for the bento I ordered. I finally got her the attention, then so said they changed the price on their menu. Okay fine I paid whatever she asked. But two week later, today I walked by their business, they have their menu on their windows and I don't see the price change.
