Amazing food! Customer Service! And Quality! We came to get a quick bite to eat, and I was shocked. The Quality for the Price is unbeatable. They care so much about the quality of the food they are serving! Just absolutely 5 star service. I don't often return to restaurants but I am impressed. I will be back 100%

Salmon teriyaki with tempura, salad, etc...

Went for lunch yesterday. Clean, cozy, has all the comfort food items you would expect from a restaurant. Fast, friendly and they let us just hang out and chat when we were done. No rush for us. We all ordered bento lunch specials that included rice, salad, miso soup and we all had a variation of tempura, salmon teriyaki, salmon sushi, and unagi. And a scoop of green tea ice cream at the end. Reasonable. Good and tasty.

Got seated right away on a Wednesday night, the owners were very nice - gave great service. I ordered the 49ers roll and a spicy scallop maki. The scallop in both my rolls were cut into large pieces which is very nice, they weren't skipping out on their fish. Everything was fresh and delicious!

    Tuxedo Roll ($17.95), delicious!

Highly recommend! I'm choosy about sushi spots, goes double for this location that long ago was one of my favorite spots, Nagano. Toyama Sushi rises to that level of excellence with ultra fresh fish sliced generously for sashimi and combined uniquely into many types of house rolls. Loved the Tuxedo Roll ($17.95) with crab, avocado topped with super white tuna, scallop and black tobiko. The thick slices of hamachi and otoro sashimi ($29.95) were a delicious splurge. Service was impeccable, warm and attentive. The restaurant's nicely decorated and cozy, perfect for dinner for two or a small group. Located on Geary a few doors down from Arguello in The Inner Richmond.

    Garlic Sake Poke

Came here on a Sunday evening! Excellent food. I was a huge fan of the garlic sake poke appetizer and so strongly recommend that item over any of the rolls I tried. The chef really pours his heart into the rolls and he actually interacts with customers if you talk to him. It's equally fun to watch him make his rolls and eat them at the same time. Overall, I want this place to do well and I'm willing to overlook a lot of the nitpicking, 5/5 from me!

    15. Sushi For 2

I got the sushi for 2 and would not return for a couple reasons. 1. Over half of them were overly fishy and I had times it was difficult to eat 2. The rice was too warm and my sushi felt almost uncomfortably warm at times, but I realized that the sushi counter fridge was often left open 3. The rice was a bit more gummy than I would like, felt more like a hard stacked rice ball that was a tad bit too sweet. 4. A lot of sauce on each piece felt like it was overpowering or trying to hide something about the fish. Service was good and ambiance was more like a mom and pop shop that I really loved. Cozy like a home and nothing overtly curated. Maybe would come back here to get basic rolls, but not sushi itself. Though I will say, for the price this leans on the more acceptable side.

Found this place from other Yelpers and so glad I did. Came here on a Sunday evening for early dinner at 5:45pm with my dad and daughter. We were the first ones seated but soon others started coming in at 6pm and by 6:30pm all tables were full. The sushi was fresh and yummy. The service was also attentive and the rolls came out quite quickly but probably because we were the first ones there. The interior was also nice and inviting with lots of nice decor with flowers and sake and beer bottles on the walls. The prices were also quite reasonable for sushi and for the city. We ordered various rolls such as SF Giants, Niners and spider roll. Will definitely be back again when I'm in the mood for sushi in the city. Parking was very easy when I was there since I got a metered spot right in front of the restaurant. Score!

Toyama is always amazing. I don't have a picture now, but my favorite thing to order is the Sushi for 2 for me and my fiancé. The staff is nice and friendly. Inside is a little dark and romantic with some tv's around. The sushi chef is so nice and friendly. He works so hard I see him every time. We come back all the time and that will not stop. Also, this place is so good and open later than other places!

Customer service 5 star Really appreciated the chef tried to talk me through difference between two dishes. Also, curtesy call when my order was ready earlier than stated Restaurant is bright and cheerful, appears clean. Slices of fish are beautifully displayed. I ordered White Tiger roll and The boat (assorted sashimi and Nigel) Slices are thick and juicy appearance. Prices are good. Area for improvement would be actual selection of fish. The fish was not high grade fish, not choice parts of the fish. If you don't eat sushi often, You might incorrectly think, fish not fresh. It's fresh but lower grade selection. The miso soup is rich and creamy delicious 5+ Funny, but one of the best miso soups I've tasted. I now wonder if I should have tried their ramen? The miso is excellent.

Delicious sushi and sashimi boats. Also, we love their beef teriyaki dinner. Great value and friendly service. Located on Geary Blvd between 2nd Ave and Arguello.

Decent food, average service, lots of tables. Came at a slow evening. It's not a bad spot, but nothing really stood out to me. Give it a try if you are in the area.

    Sushi bar, 3/8/25

Sometimes it takes friends to open one's eyes to what else is out there. This was the case on DST Saturday after watching an eventful Warriors game. My friend found a restaurant with a large menu to allow our party of six choices for our late dinner. The restaurant closes at 10 am but do note the kitchen closes at 9 am for cooked foods. We placed our orders at the deadline due to traffic issues in getting here. We shared a few sushi rolls and an appetizer with our individual meals. I ordered the agedashi tofu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=CF8KlJijnBIfj5XEbctoVA), a generous and eye-catching presentation that tasted as good as it looked. The large tofu pieces were temperature hot so do be careful in biting in. I also tried to the spicy tuna hand roll (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=yF7jRasA4XMXyHVO7BVcbA); this was a different take as the tuna came in chunks and the spiciness was on the subtle side. My main meal was the beef teriyaki and sashimi (sake) bento box (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=zjzSfhm4pr5O5YZmgu0xFA). It comes with miso soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=YSYtQIW30Zv4fvCDbvkIVA) and green tea ice cream. I enjoyed this, especially the beef which paired well with the rice. I wish maguro is an option though the salmon slices were fresh and generous. I am glad our waitress and the sushi chef owner were persistent in reminding us that the kitchen closes at 9 pm due to the shared tenants (residential) in the building, a typical concern in SF. The dining room was half full when we were seated a little after 8 pm. Our dining companions were stuck in traffic (actually trying to exit a parking structure) and made it to the restaurant just before 9 pm. Street parking was not very difficult as I found a metered space around the corner. Thanks to Jun and Michelle for taking our orders, bringing our food, and refilling our tea cups and water glasses. Big thanks to Dayson, the aforementioned chef owner for being frank with us in ensuring we had an enjoyable meal. Extra thanks for pointing out that, due to our party size (6), the gratuity was already added. Doing the 'Asian thing's in paying the bill while returning from my restroom stop, I didn't look at the itemization and added an additional gratuity. He removed my addition in spite of my plea to add it on. As we continued to discuss the restaurant's background, we learned that he came from that popular South Bay sushi place with multiple locations that rhymes with "umami". We will be back.

    Atmosphere of the restaurant

Food was simply amazing and the atmosphere was enjoyable. The music and decor was pleasant and the staff was truly attentive. I would recommend Toyama Sushi to anyone looking to enjoy a lovely dinner in a great space!

We lucked out without a reservation and showed up the moment they opened. However, I noticed this place has A LOT of reservations; therefore, they did give us a time limit (we had a good hour and 30 mins!). If you're looking for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience, Rintaro is definitely worth checking out. I've been to Japan before, and actually felt like the food we ate was just as good as what you would get in Japan, but more expensive, haha. I also love that their menu focuses on traditional Japanese izakaya dishes rather than just sushi. Everything is meant to be shared, making it a fun dining experience where you can try a little bit of everything. FOOD: 9/10 SERVICE: 9/10 AMBIANCE: 10/10 FOOD: 9/10 The food really showcases the craftsmanship that goes into Japanese cooking. From the handmade udon to the charcoal-grilled skewers that we ordered, every dish felt thoughtfully prepared. I especially appreciated that nothing felt overly complicated. The flavors were simple, balanced, and let the quality of the ingredients shine. The only reason I'm giving it a 9 instead of a perfect 10 is that a few dishes didn't completely wow me for the price, but overall it was a fantastic meal. SERVICE: 9/10 The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and happy to answer questions or offer recommendations. The restaurant gets busy, but service still felt attentive throughout the meal without making us feel rushed. They do recommend ordering everything at once, as they do run out of things due to the high volume of customers. AMBIANCE: 10/10 The first thing that stood out to me was the ambiance. From the moment you walk in, the warm wood interior, open kitchen, and charcoal grill make you feel like you've stepped into Japan. It has such a cozy and intimate atmosphere that's perfect for a date night or catching up with friends. Rintaro is definitely more of a special occasion spot than an everyday dinner. The quality is there, but because the menu is made up of small plates, the bill can add up pretty quickly. That said, I think it's worth experiencing at least once if you're looking for an authentic izakaya in San Francisco. Overall, I'd definitely come back. The atmosphere alone makes it memorable, and I love that Rintaro focuses on traditional Japanese comfort food instead of being another sushi restaurant. It's the kind of place where you come for the entire experience, not just the meal.

There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. The vibe is super friendly, the music sets the perfect mood, and it's low‑key enough that you can actually relax and enjoy your food without feeling rushed or crowded. The sushi itself is amazing -- fresh, flavorful, and way better than what you'd expect from most AYCE places. What really impressed me is their policy: if you order a roll and don't finish it, they charge you for it, but half of that goes to a food bank. I love that they're intentional about reducing waste and giving back to the community. Service was great, the atmosphere was chill, and the food was top‑tier. I'll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you want quality sushi without the chaos.

I went after typical dinner time, but it doesn't seem to be super busy in general. We got: * Cherry Blossom Roll * Unagi Roll * Sake Roll * Kappa Maki Roll Had no complaints taste-wise (tasted the same as all other sushi spots). Nothing stood out, but I appreciated that the Cherry Blossom Roll wasn't stuffed with fake crab (had raw salmon inside instead). Price-wise, they're about the same as other sushi spots. Their AYCE deal looks pretty good, so I'd come back to try that if I'm ever in the area. The service was average (filled our waters occasionally, but didn't really check in on us that much and the service didn't stand out to me). Overall, this is a safe, mediocre spot for sushi.

There are some omakase staples that we always look forward to: the shokupan and chawanmushi especially. We also love seeing what is in season, and I have seen the menu change weekly. In the dozen or so times I have gone, I have never been disappointed in the quality or quantity. I agree with other reviews that the taste is more fusion/experimental than straight traditional omakase. For me, that is part of the draw. I also agree that Akiko's is pricier, but we also go for special occasions rather than a standing weekly or monthly reservation. Parking can be tricky in the area, but there are apps that can help with that.

We noted our dietary restrictions on the reservation and the host confirmed that but the menus aren't customized for each guest (which I'd expect for a high end omakase with less than 10 guests during our seating). Then the first server showed up and started describing the opening course of 3 small plates, 2 of which contained shellfish. When we asked about it, he just backtracked and said "That's not lobster" and then walked away. We were also never asked what we would like to drink - I finally asked the sushi chef for tea and he ran to the back to communicate that. There was also no real interaction with the sushi chef the entire meal so it felt impersonal and sterile. Food notes: maybe the selection was just not for me that day but there was only 1 course I enjoyed (kinmedai) and by the end I was eating a bite and leaving the rest and dreading the next course. The fish flavors felt very strong and overwhelming and the sushi rice was so wet that every piece fell apart on the way from the plate to the mouth.
