The signage is a little easy to miss, but I walked in to two friendly people eager to serve me lunch. They have a fairly large selection of hot and cold sandwiches, and a slightly more gourmet feel to the items and menu boards. I was torn between the chicken, bacon, ranch sandwich and the #1 combination sub, which comes with a variety of meats. I was encouraged to try the #1, so that's what I went with. They were happy to accommodate my modifications to the sandwich (no onions or tomatoes, please). I grabbed chips and a drink from the mini-fridge to complete my meal. The bathroom in the back is a little cramped and hard to find but clean and gets the job done. My sandwich was made fresh for me and brought to my table. I liked the crusty bread; it stood up well to the sandwich. The meats and cheese were sliced thinly and I could taste the different elements. For me, I think I would have preferred some greenery other than the shredded cabbage; the texture just wasn't my favorite. The pepper on top was also a little heavy and aromatic for my preferences. Nothing worth sending it back over, just a few small details. Overall, I appreciate the effort to create a sandwich shop like this one. I would return to try another sandwich in the future.

My coworker and I came in here for a late lunch after working across the street at Falls Mill…read more Hensley's somewhat recently took over this convenience store and we were curious about the food as we noticed across several visits the parking lot was quite full. Though I miss seeing the sign for its humorously named predecessor (the "beer, baloney, and more" store), Hensley's is an upgrade in terms of food! In addition to standard gas station snacks, Hensley's cooks up burgers and chicken sandwiches as well as a southern plate lunch each day. They also have a small salad bar. Desserts include fried pies; I thought I saw a sign for ice cream too though I never spied a machine. The place is hoppin with locals and it's clear word has spread. There's not a lot of super convenient options in the area but even still, we enjoyed our meal. My coworker had visited before on an earlier trip I didn't attend and she enjoyed their Philly cheesesteak. This time, she got a chicken bacon ranch wrap and onion rings. I ordered a hamburger with bacon and French fries. Their soda machine wasn't functional when we visited but we were able to get drinks from the convenience store side. Diet Coke only though, no Coke Zero and no Pepsi products whatsoever. /: Our food took a few minutes to come out but they were busy and it was clearly fresh. The burger came on a simple but soft bun. It had pretty good flavor, though I will say it was a touch dry in parts. Fries had a slightly frozen-ish texture and might've benefited from a touch more salt but they were hot and plentiful. The bacon on my burger was cooked very well and was nice and crispy. My coworker enjoyed her onion rings and said the CBR wrap was her favorite thing she'd tried so far. The menu covers a good many American classics and the plate lunch specials seem to change often and were quite popular on my visit. You pay at the counter with your ticket when you check out. I think the prices are fair. Service was nice and helpful. Overall, this is a solid stop for some fresh grub in an area that was previously mostly bereft of options. Give them a try if you're passing through.

Came here for lunch a couple weeks ago and had a nice time…read more On the outskirts of Winchester, this restaurant has comfort food, breakfast, and American classics. It's a little rough around the edges / shabby-chic inside but there's plenty of seating and it definitely feels like a local place. Pleasant interactions between waitstaff and regulars, large groups of workers coming in, etc. I like that vibe. They let me seat myself and a waitress brought me a menu. I asked if I should get the plate lunch or the burger and she very emphatically recommended the burger. Not sure if that was a condemnation of the plate lunch or just a huge fan of the burger lol, but I followed her guidance and got a bacon burger and fries. I used the restroom while I waited for my food; it was a small one person lady's room but it was clean. My food came out in a timely manner and was fresh and hot. My waitress did not steer me wrong; it was a tasty, diner-style burger, well-seasoned and cooked nicely. The bacon was extra crispy, which is my preference. The fries were nothing-special crinkle cut fries, but they were hot and crispy enough. The burger was definitely the star though and worthy of another order. The price was reasonable and I was in and out quickly. A worthwhile stop in Winchester.
