    GH Inn family Dinner 2023
    Larry R.

I've been going to the Gold Hill Inn for over 50 years. It's my favorite place to take out-of-state guests for dinner. It's been in the Finn family since 1961 and the sons (Brian & Chris) run it seamlessly. The ambience is unforgettable and the food unique. A really enjoyable evening out.

After a lengthy city council meeting (Zoning budget secured for 2025 !)) Zander and Zoey took us to the most astonishingly astounding Greco-Roman museum and restaurant. Hour waiter posed the all important question of truth: 3 course or 6 course meal....of COURSE we did 6 COURSE !! Great value and quality of service and great food is what makes the best meal in the whole Gold Hills region. So much better to be able than a restaurant in your hometown or city versus the rest of America thank you ALL for your service!

Getting to this place is quite the trip through the mountains outside of Boulder -- prepare accordingly, especially if arriving at night. The ambiance here is indeed very log cabin, old-timey, mountain town saloon. Even the toilet is old-timey! The live music in the front (if happening while you're there) really helps paint a picture. We enjoyed every dish we had here, a multi-course meal where we had a couple options to choose from for each course. We had: - a nice salad - some sort of tex mex casserole as a starter - borscht and a cold cucumber soup - stuffed smoked trout and tournedo steak - chocolate torte and sour cream apple pie - fruit and cheese plate The portions here are so generous, be prepared to leave FULL or with leftovers. The cheese and fruit plate was a surprise to us and we had to rally to eat it. Everything was tasty and service was attentive and helpful. The staff here are so nice they even helped my friend retrieve the bag she left the next day when the business was closed!

We stayed at the Blue Bird Lodge, which is right next door to the Gold Hill Inn. https://www.goldhillinn.com/lodge/. You need to rent the entire lodge, which is $825/night with a two-night minimum. We went with two other families and it was really fun to stay in such an historic place. Just to sit on the covered porch with a coffee or to walk steps to the evening concert made it work the experience. The inn was incredibly quiet at night. We were there at the end of August, so the nights were cool but the days were warm. Besides the Gold Hill restaurant and General Store, there are not many places to eat in town so I recommend bringing your own food to cook some meals. There is no freezer, so bring a cooler with ice. Also, some townies said not to drink the water because the mining through the ages put chemicals in the wells. I had already drank a lot, and didn't get sick, but if I were to go back I would bring my own drinking/cooking water. Highly recommend this sweet spot.

Truly a hidden gem tucked up and away from Boulder in the single dirt Road Town of Gold Hill. It's worth the drive just to visit this charming mountain oasis but stay for live bluegrass and great food. If you're a beer drinker bring cash, they had a quick service beer line that was cash only in the outdoor music space. If you expect to eat dinner inside make reservations a few days in advance. And the drive from. Left hand Canyon is 4ish miles up hill on a dirt road but if you're reading this you probably drive a Subaru and the road is well maintained if a little rustic.

Delicious homemade food. Don't skip the bread with Jelly appetizer! Plus they have unique mixed drinks. Great service, friendly and family owned. Plus a pretty drive. Indoor/outdoor seating weather permitting.

Always a favorite. There's outdoor dining with an ala carte menu if you don't want the full courses in the dining room.

I had happy hour with a margarita flavored with most delicious honey flavored agave; courtesy of one of the original builders and blues legend Burle Galloway, we didn't have time for the 7 course meal they serve every night! But this is where lots of bluegrass gets played and a low key musical mecca. Love the vibe and I'll be back for that gourmet dinner next time, thanks so much for the margarita!

I slept about 4 hours the night before to make it early for sunrise. To say that a few tasty beers were what the doctor ordered would be the understatement of the century! None of this matters, of course, to the good folks at Rocky Cut Brewing Company. This is off the main drag of Estes in an unassuming strip plaza. Humble vibes inside, a simple U-shaped bar top with seating all around, a few smaller tables, a community table, and a large patio with mostly picnic table seating. If you're lucky, snag a stool right along the Big Thompson River! Though, I recommend they fix the wooden placeholders for beers, they're leaning on the wrong side of history, we don't want any full glasses of beer reaching an unnecessary demise! Interference IPA * American IPA * 6.7% * 16oz ($7) From their website: "Climbing the Interference Boulder in Rocky Mountain National Park requires strength and power. This Colorado IPA showcases the power of hops with an intense blend forging citrus aromas with a pine forward finish. Featured ingredients: Cascade, El Dorado, Mosaic, Chinook, & Simcoe hops * Recommended adventure: hiking Black Lake, climbing the Twin Owls, skiing upper Hidden Valley." A perfectly apt description. I would summarize this beer just as they did, focusing on hops, citrus, and pine. Absolutely delicious, a memorable IPA in recent memory. I liked it so much I ordered it again and it tasted just as delicious the second time down! They also had a food truck outside, so safe to assume they do this often. Would love to try more of their beers during my next visit. Rock Cut, I see you!

The whole space feels warm and relaxed in a way that makes you want to stay longer than planned. I think the best thing about River and Woods is the interior and exterior decoration. It is very clear that a lot of thought and time was put into the atmosphere here. From the cute door knocker to the bathroom wallpaper, the theme is well-executed. The food was a bit disappointing. The blue oyster mushroom appetizer was extremely salty. I thought it was just me but the rest of the table agreed as well. My trout was well-cooked and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The chicken was also salty although cooked well. I did not try the burger but I was told it was salty as well. The prices of all the items were quite high for what I thought was presented. Service was good and thankfully our waters were filled frequently for how much water we were drinking due to the high salt content.

We ordered the burrata appetizer and all of our means at the same time. Unfortunately, the appetizer never came out, our server for that to put it in. I ended up going with the Bolognese and it was really good so was the steak frites and street cart chicken that my friends had. Their fries are pretty good.
