Stopped in while walking through historic downtown Longmont. This area has always been a favorite of mine and I was looking forward to trying another one of the many restaurants they have downtown. Mike O'Shays did not disappoint. They have a great beer and food selection on the menu. I had a tall Smithwicks and it met my expectations (it was very good). The server was very friendly and pleasant. She was attentive and casual about the whole thing. The inside has the appropriate Irish Pub vibes. Very nice. I had the NE chowder to start and it was delicious. It was slightly more watery than I had anticipated but still had plenty of flavor and the garnishes were enjoyable. The steak salad was excellent. It was a very generous portion size and the steak was cooked exactly as I wanted it: medium rare. This was a very good experience across the board. We first visited Mike O'Shays on Aug 20th for dinner. An American replica of a true Irish public house since 1981. We sat at the bar. We were greeted by the affable Andrea N. who brought us drinks & menus. Wine by the glass ($11), local draft beers ($6.50) and a pint of Guinness ($9). Large serving of chopped steak salad ($18) & chicken mac & cheese ($18) - large tasty meals served hot/cold as appropriate. This place was so friendly & Andrea made us first-time visitors feel very welcomed. Open Mon-Thu 11am-9pm, Fri & Sat 11am-10pm, Sun 11am-8pm. Happy hour 2-5pm. I came in for a drink after work and was stoked to have found my go to place! Awesome food selections and great beers on tap. They can print pictures on your Nitro beers - so cool! My bartender was Andrea and she was great, very friendly and attentive to all her customers. I ended up coming back later for dinner with my girlfriend, we had the shepherds pie, chicken pot pie and an order of the egg rolls - all the food was great! O'Shay's has been a Longmont staple for over 43 years. In years past, any Weekend night it was packed with up to an hour wait. We went last night and the restaurant was scarce at 7 pm. We walked in thru the back door and were cordially greeted by Triston who showed us to our starts in seconds flat. He handed us our menus and came back for our selections. For lunch we ordered the Corn Beef Rueben and Crispy Fries and an order of Poutine. Poutine is a dish I was introduced to in Canada. Usually when you have it here in the States it's just gravy and cheese served over fries. But at O'Shays it's like you're in Montreal. It is well done. The fries are smothered in melted cheese curds and delicious gravy but unlike most Poutine it also has short rib cut into perfect size pieces. I wish I could write a better review on this place because I had extremely high hopes. They were busy which I understand but service was incredibly slow. Empty drinks, waited forever to get our order taken. Ordered chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies - it was okay. Chicken was good, no gravy and veggies were BLAND. Also got tomahawk pork chop, mashed potatoes and veggies. When ordering I asked what veggies and was told it was squash, zucchini and carrots - what came out were sugary carrots that basically ruined the whole plate with how sweet they were. Disappointed in the flavor and lack of knowledge from the server on what was going to come on the plate. I was at this restaurant on a Friday right at opening, and the service was incredibly slow. It took an hour and a half to get our food after putting in our order within 5 minutes of sitting down. They were quite busy and seemed to only have 1-2 servers, 1 cook, and no bartender. It took an hour for the waitress to apologize for the wait and she told us the cook had a lot of orders and was getting confused. That was frustrating because there were tables who sat down after us who got their food and left before we were even served. The vibe in here is super fun. It is like an Irish bar you would see in the movies. I love the staff. They are all super upbeat and friendly and we had great service when we were here. Beers on tap are great. They have a wonderful tap list and everything is fresh and fizzy and warms the heart any Irish you might have in you. The fish and chips were amazing. This restaurant/ pub is a great place for good food and drinks. We went at 6:30 pm on a Sunday night and were seated right away. We started with a Moscow mule and peachtini, which were quite good. We ordered the Bavarian pretzel with cheese. The pretzel was warm and soft. The cheese was ok. I thought it could have more flavor. We both ordered the pork schnitzel - sandwich and dinner. The dinner was outstanding! The pork, topped with brown gravy, had good flavor, no fat, and cooked well. The sides were also tasty. The sandwich had garlic aioli added for a nice zing. I just came back from dinner and it was terrible. I ordered the shepards pie and it had hardly any meat ! About an 1/8 inch of filling on the bottom of the skillet and about 2 inches of mash potatoes. Did you run out of filling or your cook has no idea what he's doing ? I went in today for lunch. After waiting a couple minutes at the host stand, a young waitress catches my eye from across the restaurant and says "What's up?" with a puzzled look in her eye, to which I replied "Sorry?" and started to wonder whether they were even open based on her question and lack of friendliness. She again asked "what's up?" more skeptically, to which I replied "I'm here to eat." She responded with a furrowed brow and attitude "And how many?" "Just me." I almost shook my head and left. Who asks "What's up?" as a host to their patrons at a sit down restaurant? She sat me and I had a very pleasant and professional server, a middle aged man who didn't skip a beat. But the young woman was consorting with her coworkers near my table and I heard her say "F---" as well as "I hate everyone" and "I'm going to go outside and scream" to top it all off, in three separate little tirades. I can understand when someone has a bad day and isn't in their best form, but she was rude and unprofessional from start to finish. Really a shame that one bad worker can deprive a business of a return customer, but I won't be going back, except maybe to deliver this message to her in person! read more

Used to come here with my GF to play video games upstairs. Ate here for the first time yesterday. Seated right away, friendly waitstaff, place was packed. Soggy turkey avocado sandwich of no particular character, and soggy, limp sweet potato fries. Wishing O'Shay's all the best, though - obviously it's popular. And I had a nice time with my date. All in all this is a clean and inviting environment. The water is served to you in a glass bottle and the atmosphere is appropriate for the style of food they're serving. I personally couldn't determine what I wanted from the menu because it's a hybrid of sea food and American style food. I decided upon the burrito and although the chicken appeared to be grilled the burrito was rather bland by itself. They placed cheese on the hot plate so your beans and lettuce lay atop melted cheese. The burrito was likely not something I would eat again but it wasn't horrible. 5.4/10 My grandparents got the fish and chips and split it between the two of them. I believe that it seduced the pallet of a geriatric but it was a little too bland for my liking. Still, not a bad option if you go. 5.7/10 From what I could tell the chowder was the better option and the most affordable from all three options we got. I like to grade things based on how memorable the place was. My two last thoughts were it was a bar restaurant and somehow from the infinity of the heavens serve Pepsi products and ketchup from US Foods. Two huge no-no's for me as I will literally decline a soft drink of its Pepsi. All in all, it was warm and inviting but the food I was exposed to wasn't that impressive. How sad. This used to be a favorite. Went for lunch, the others in my party enjoyed their food, but I ordered the soft shell crab sandwich, which the server recommended. I GOT the crab cakes sandwich, mushy and flavorless, but it didn't occur to me that the kitchen messed up my order until later. I paid $17 for a terrible sandwich, and I'm sure the crab cakes were much less expensive. We've always liked this place for dine in, so we decided to try take out during Covid. The curbside service was easy and friendly, and the food was fresh and hot. We ordered directly from the website, which was very simple. I had a French dip sandwich; the meat was thick cut and juicy. Reminiscent of bar in downtown Denver with a neighborhood feel, O' Shays exceeded my expectations for "little" bar in Longmont. The service was impeccable and the staff was clearly happy to be back in business in the post pandemic era. (This is not common, by the way, we've been to a few places where it seems like the staff is upset to be back at work) The menu is short likely due to the condition. But I had the Fried Chicken Sandwich and it was as advertised. All was well. That was until my wife got the clam chowder. And then things got real. She kept raving about how great it was. I mean clam chowder at an Irish pub? I'll be honest I didn't REALLY believe her until I tried it. And the tried it again. And again. In the end, my wife and I who generally have no problem sharing food, were in a pretty substantial debate on the definition of sharing. I apologized and told her we could just get another bowl, but she said that wasn't the point. Anyhow, yes, the clam chowder is THAT good. And I'll likely be sleeping on the couch tonight. If you find yourself in Longmont, I'd highly recommend checking out O'Shays. Ask for Rueben if he's in and see if he'll tell you about his time as a Beer Monk in Belgium. Fascinating story.
