Overall, this isn't a bad place to stay. There are some highlights, but there are some leering concerns as well. When I had settled on where I would be going I had hurried to book a hotel I was familiar with. However, that hotel was not available. Wanting to be in the same area, I decided a nearby hotel would be good enough. Gold Leaf Hotel was the first place I thought of after my initial hotel was not available. Booking was fairly simple. Showing up was a breeze. Checking in was a bit of a hassle. But let's get into it. Will mix the good with the bad, a true look at this establishment. When I came to check in I was not sure where to park, so I just took a chance and parked near the lobby to run in and check in. There was a little bit of a slow down here. Trying to find my reservation, going through the rules on the hotel, WiFi, yadda yadda yadda. A highlight here is that the parking is integrated into the building. Seeing how this was going to be my first question after check in they were ready for it. Each floor of the hotel has a dedicated floor of parking. Some spots can be tight, but there are ample spots. You must know your license plate upon check in and hang a tag in your vehicle for the duration of your stay. But being able to drive up to the floor where your room is was a nice touch. Depending on where your room is may dictate where you will park. Finally out of my vehicle I took the few steps to the door and made my way to the room. Once there, my keys would not work. All I did was put them in my pocket with my wallet and make my way to the room. I had to make my way downstairs to get new keys and was made to feel like I deactivated them myself. I had them nowhere near my phone or have a magnet on me. A little bit of a hassle without the need for it. Finally in my room I was pleasantly surprised to see I had a corner room. The room felt like a wide open space, a nice touch. I chose a single which was more than enough for me. I have seen that others were a bit irked by the fact that they chose a room with two or three beds and then complain about the absence of space in the room. Along with the bed I had a table with two chairs, futon, dresser, armoire, fridge, microwave, and AC unit. All great amenities for any hotel. Some I didn't use at all, but others were definitely needed. I had a bit of a tiff with the fridge as no matter what I did, whatever I put in there came out frozen. Thankful for the microwave with that one. The AC unit is controlled by a remote, so be sure to grab that upon entry into the room. But the best thing in this room were the French doors. Technically you do not have a balcony, but having these as part of the room is amazing. I was able to have them open to let in the air. However, they don't always stay open I had to use my bags to prop them. It also allowed you to eavesdrop on the live music that might be coming up the street from one of the bars. The shower, that was a big downfall to me. They are spacious, but the shower just did not work for me. The shower was a walk in one, but the water never stayed in that direct area. The shower curtain wasn't weighted and it felt like a fight each time I used it. I threw hands at that curtain a few times as it was annoying to have the curtain stick to you as you are trying to clean yourself. The overall room was good, but there are signs of wear and tear. Being near the beach and bay you will see rust from the salt water. The carpeting was questionable, never walked around barefoot in here. Then there was the other things in this hotel. The coffee machine was out of order (I don't drink coffee but I took notice). The vending machines were very overpriced. There is laundry available, but I wouldn't take that chance. Then the elevator, yikes. When I first got here they must have just done some work on the tiling in the elevator. It made it hard to maneuver your suitcase in it. That was corrected by the next day. But that thing kind of scared me. It jolted when it would move. Staff, best way to describe them, dry. I felt like I was bothering them whenever I needed to ask for something. It was a simple ask and I did not feel welcome. It's a decent place to stay. But when I come to this part of the Delaware beaches, it is not my first choice. read more

We stayed here overnight because we wanted to be within walking distance to Rudder. You might see the building and think this is a newer or updated hotel. It is not. It is nicer on the outside than on the inside. The rooms are very outdated, circa 80s or 90s. Our balcony looked at Nalu, and the street was loud even with the windows closed. Sooooo, I am so glad I took a chance on this place and didn't look at reviews before booking. This quaint little place could surely use some upgrades but our room was clean and the staff people were AMAZING!!!... super nice and friendly! Hotels near the water are always a little danky and weirdly dark, to me. This place is no different, but I loved it. And, we actually liked that is was only railing and not necessarily a balcony. It felt very Bourbon Street Hotel-ish. We faced the strip which was super cool b/c watching the mist and night life was entertaining enough for us. I would definitely stay again. I'm not sure that there are 5 star hotels at Rehoboth Beach, but the people and vibe make up for any higher expectations. We didn't see any trash. Our floors were clean. The one complaint is the bed. It had the weird lip- that SUPER tight stitching lip thingy- on the upper side of the mattress that was actually painful if you slid on the bed. read more

This place wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible. It's a pretty low quality hotel that's right next to the beach. Some of the staff was nice, but the lady at the front desk was pretty rude at check-in. The pool is out of order, which they should have advertised. They stored full trash bags right at the reception area. Next time we go to Rehoboth Beach, we will stay somewhere else. read more

A fabulous five stars to the Gold Leaf Hotel. From the moment we checked in, the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. The employees went out of their way to smile and talk to us. Lucas helped find and guide me into a parking spot on the 4th floor of the garage to make loading the car easy. The hotel is just minutes from the beach, making the location ideal. It is a short walk to all Dewey nightlife at an affordable price. We will definitely return to this treasure on the beach. read more

I would have given 4 stars. The website said breakfast but the front desk said they haven't had it in two years. They can't get the help. I understand that. They also don't clean your room. I understand that too. No help.... But when I have to empty my own trash in the community trash can in my hallway please empty it once in awhile. This hotel was in a great location one block from the beach. I had stayed here years ago under different management and enjoyed my stay, which is why I booked it again. Unfortunately, the service was a major concern throughout my stay. At check in, the staff member behind the plastic barrier informed me that if I did not wear a mask at any point, I would get a warning and if it happened again, my family would be removed and not given a refund, which as a health care provider, was fine with me. However, this staff member did not wear their mask for part of the time they spoke with me. At check in, the staff member explained the policy that the staff would not be entering our room to clean or restock linens and that we could call for linens or other items which would be delivered to our door while wearing masks. However, when I called for these things 3x, including toilet paper that we had run out of, I was told "You can come get it yourselves." I realized that my door was not locked when I came back to the room, so my belongings & my own safety were at risk. I called the staff & explained this & thankfully someone came to examine it. I was told it would be fixed momentarily, though I was called a few minutes later saying it could not be fixed & that I would need to move rooms. I was late for my reservation by this time & had to pack my family's belongings to move down the hall without any support. I was assured "not to worry because it won't cost me extra." In the morning, guests were startled by hearing staff in the hallway yelling about checkout time before checkout time. While I packed my vehicle the day I left, there were families in the common areas with children who looked afraid after that incident. Overall my family's stay at the "Do It Yourself Inn" was a stressful disappointment. read more

This hotels location is pretty sweet since it only takes 3 -5mins to walk to the beach. I did a 2 night stay with my husband and 2 kids and we got room 307 (Family room with 3 full sized beds) The setup is nice! The view is decent. We paid $700 which is PRICEY but its planted basically on the beach. Demographics? lol on the weekend? Teens and college kids RUN the streets. I totally forgot the strip has bars and restaurants so that was on us. The pool is not kids friendly. You see people in the small pool drinking and partying from 3:00pm to 8pm. Breakfast was decent. Hey its free so don't expect gourmet dishes to be displayed. lol Its in a room on the 4th floor from 7am to 10am. So get there EARLY. I was there at 7am and by 7:30 the cows came a coming. The bathroom is small and tight. No tubs to bathe a child so showering is what I did for them. Room is big but did not have a couch, just a table and two chairs. Parking is FREE which is GREAT! But the garage is TIGHT!! omg! lol Be careful in their garage when parking. Drive slow. Also Free Coffee machines are awesome! Hot Chocolate was GREAT! Staff was nice! read more

Decent hotel, I'd expect more with the Gold title, a little pretentious I guess with the bleach or milk stain outside of room 110 which I had to look at multiple times, but the shampoo and conditioner are good, and the smell is nostalgic, a smell you never forget, maybe only two other places I've noticed this smell, one close, and one far which is always interesting to have a nostalgic memory so I gave an extra star for that, plus free coffee is always nice in the morning and the employees seem nice, and the furniture is decent enough. read more

Stayed here multiple times over the last few years and each year it gets worse. The rooms feel as though they are rarely cleaned. There is always sand on the floor when you check-in to your room. The hotel is beyond dated yet they charge ridiculous amounts per night. The rooms look exactly the same as they did 20 years ago. This is barely a step up from a cheap motel and should be $125/night on a Saturday. People really need to stop paying these insane prices to force these dumps to reprice and improve their outdated properties. read more

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. It is a very short walk down to the beach which is very convenient. However the hotel itself leaves a lot to be desired. I know we are staying here during Covid-19 and there are multiple rules and regulations going on everywhere but I find it ridiculous how this hotel closes their pool yet when we are walking around town multiple other hotel pools remained open. We booked this in advance and never received an email or anything letting us know that this has changed. It is on the website but like I said we had booked In advance so didn't know until we arrived. They also aren't offering free breakfast or housekeeping services, yet they offer no discounted price. The staff at the front desk are not very friendly. I received attitude for asking for 6 towels. When we are staying in a 3 bed room and have 5 guests in our party. I went to the front desk to request towels the next day and the man at the desk clearly saw me and just kept sitting there saying nothing until another staff member had to tell him to help me. I asked for 6 towels and 6 washcloths he gave me the towels but instead of washcloths he gave me hand towels so I went back over and asked for the wash cloths he came back out and said "Unfortunately we only have 2 I hope that's ok" you're telling me they only have 2 WASHCLOTHS in the whole building. That's absurd. They must not be doing laundry. So we received 2 washcloths for 5 guests. There were big piles of sand in the hallway that remained there for days and were never swept up. The room size is horrible. There are beds and barely any room to even move. There isn't a balcony at all just doors leading to a rail outsize. You can't sit out there or anything. No housekeeping so we just had a giant pile of towels in the bathroom and had to buy our own trash bags at the store since ours wouldn't be emptied. Floor is filthy you should have seen our feet just from Walking around the room. Beds are not comfortable and not big at all. Decor is horribly outdated. Overall hotel is not great at all. My advice is spend the extra money and stay somewhere else!!!!!!! read more

I hesitate to do this because I found a truly nice hotel amongst some high price horrible ones during the holiday weekend and i want to keep it to myself. A clean hotel with Pool, Gym, Wi-Fi, close to the beach and Breakfast. It competes with Hyatt Place from across the street fairly well and the management will work with you for last minute bookings. This will probably be our vacation choice from here on. I am truly upset the internet did push this Hotel to the front of the list when I was trying to find a place to stay the weekend. My wife normal turns her nose to mom and pop run operations but this place is truly special read more

During this time of Covid, it was nice to find a hotel with a mask mandate. On a beach block made it a short walk to a beautiful wide beach. The breakfast area of the hotel is closed due to Covid...however, the rooftop swimming pool is open and quite pleasant. Our room was clean and featured a 37 inch flat screen TV, coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator. Linens are not changed by staff...but they will bring fresh towels and linens to your door. Room had a safe (our wasn't working). Staff was friendly. Well worth the $100 per night. read more

The breakfast and front desk staff were lovely. One of the breakfast staff even gave my daughter some crayons and a coloring book which led to the most peaceful hotel breakfast experience we have had in a while. Food was ok. Waffle maker was nice. Fancy coffee machines in the lobby and breakfast nook were a great touch! Fun fact, this brand of coffee machine is worth $6300 (we looked it up) per machine. The staff is very polite and accommodating which is the only thing saving this from being a two star. Rooms are very cramped and everything feels run down and dirty. The carpets sticky in places and stained your socks after walking on them. Hot water was plentiful and decent, although the towels looked cheap and threadbare. The breakfast was microwaved eggs and turkey sausage flavored cardboard, along with cheap cereal, yogurt, waffles, store wrapped pastries, and bagels. The food prep guy doesn't wear a hairnet and my daughter found hair in her eggs. Pool is clean but starting to fall apart. Fitness room had a good elliptical machine and some free weights but both exercise bikes were malfunctioning. All in all you're definitely playing for location and not much else. read more
