I haven't tried too many cakes in the area so I can't truly compare to give it a full 5 star rating BUT the comments I hear a lot of is they use fresh fruit in their cakes. I usually get birthday cakes from Asian bakeries where fresh fruit is expected so that was an interesting comment to make from my POV. The fruit birthday cakes I've had from here are pretty good. Not too sweet and the most interesting fruit fillings I've had in cake - banana! Among other fruits. The cake isn't as light/airy as I'm used to but not bad at all. The buttercream is on the sweeter side for me but okay if you eat it with the cake and don't leave it until the end. It's not a terribly thick layer. But the cakes were super colorful and it's a lot of food coloring with how saturated the colors are. Your mouth and tongue will be stained if you're not careful. Having said that, I ordered an Oreo cake because that's why my kid wants. BUT I did request that instead of buttercream on the outside, it'll be whipped cream. Still buttercream on the inside though. I'll update this review after the party as it hasn't happened yet. This is a shop that sort of takes you back when you walk in. It's located in a corner shopping center of sorts and they have a shared parking lot so no need to hunt for parking. It has a nostalgic feel with display cases along much of the length, refrigerated sections for drinks (some were Asian which surprised me) and ice cream cake. Plus a wall of candles and birthday cake decorations because they do take a lot of orders for special occasions. No extra frills and nothing for decor's sake. There was a steady line when I went on Sunday morning. Two doors, one designed to be the entrance and the other the exit (but there isn't a police so use whichever door, but the line starts at the entrance door). As you walk up to the counter, someone will help you out. They've got all sorts of things from pastries to cookies, cakes, cupcakes, cannoli's, pies... even a tres leches section that was woefully empty. The only thing is for some odd reason, there are signs of what the items were, but absolutely no prices were posted in the display cases. At least none that I was aware of. I was passed onto the manager to take my order. It took a little time because I'm pretty sure she also decorates cakes and some people were waiting on them but I eventually got my order in. A 9" Oreo cake (for up to 16 people) with whipped cream exterior and birthday message is about $75. I added on a tres leches on a whim - they sold out early but a new batch just finished so I got one straight from the kitchen - was roughly $10. Receipts are old school, orders taken on a paper pad with a carbon copy given to you. I've had a number of tres leches cakes before and this is one of a kind! Deliciously moist, whipped topping - and the cake is halved. In between, they put fruit in there! Plus a maraschino cherry on top and cinnamon dusted over it. It was nowhere near "too sweet" and I rather enjoyed it. A lot. In fact, I'm thinking of calling in to see if I can get some for the party for the adults. My picky daughter loved it. Overall, I have a pretty good impression of this bakery and I'm looking to trying more items over time.

At home, I ate 1/4 of one of the Cuban sandwich (which I couldn't finish) and noticed the pernil (roasted pork shoulder) tasted bland. It felt like something was missing. I opened the sandwich and there is Swiss cheese, ham, pernil, and a sliced pickle. I didn't see the mustard and it was not buttered. I removed the pernil, adjusted the flavors by cooking it in garlic butter, adobo and a little sofrito. I placed it back into the sandwich, along with some mustard on the bread and extra sliced pickles. Heated it in a pan with some butter on the bread. Now we're talking about having an authentic Cuban sandwich. The cannoli and meat patty tasted spot on, but not the Cuban sandwich. Overall, the counter ladies were nice, attentive, food was very fresh and tasted good. Except for the Cuban sandwich that needed to be modified.

I didn't see a single person finish their slice, and those who did take a bite to see if they wanted their own decided against it. We ended up cutting only about 10 slices, and more than half the cake was never even cut (and thrown away). For a cake that ended up costing $220 for 15-20 people, I expected something much better. I also did not realize until I saw my credit card statement the day of the party that the total was that high, and I was not told that the basic decoration/name would add another $45. I understand they are covering themselves by saying "may include fees" but for the basic cake If the cake had been expensive but delicious, I would have felt differently. Not fluffy, not fresh. I remember when they first opened everything was fantastic, but I'd rather have no croissant than a stale croissant. Service, as always, was friendly. The ambience is nice, it's very clean inside with cute little tables. I would come in for a macaron or hot drink, but I'm iffy on the baked goods after several not-so-fresh items over the years.
