A brand new Gold Star here in Hillsboro, newly remolded but the service when dining in NOW is ridiculous. Weve eaten in at the "new improved" Gold Star twice since the re-opening and both visits the "service" we received DID NOT warrant one penny's tip. Our waitresses both times were very young. Looked to be under 18 years old and it was apparent they were more interested in leaning against the back counter and yakking with the other employees. As we watched her neglect to greet us quickly (There was ONLY our party of 3 and 3 other tables with customers at this time....) we also watched as she left our food sitting, while yakking again for at least 5 minutes before picking it up and bringing our food to us. I was amazed how the other employees and the man who looked to be the manager just yakked along with her knowing she was neglecting ALL the customers inside that evening; 7 PM on a Tuesday night. I ALSO made a to go order and asked if she could put it in right away because we didnt have much time, she said Ok YET forgot and my order went in when I reminded her about 10 minutes before we were leaving. Our to go order took at least 20 minutes and held us up ALSO because I watched and had to ask her to bring it to us when I noticed it was ready. I've been eating Cincinnati Chili since the 1960's and have been to Chili Joints ALL across Cincinnati and have never had such a bad experience. I could go on MORE.... But will mention THAT when paying this server knocked over a huge stack of fliers sitting on the counter at the register and apparently had no idea she hit them with her hip when turning at the register. She watched as customers finally started to pick them up!!! Ignoring what happened ringing out the person before us, and oblivious to the mess SHE had made. WORK ETHICS are seemingly NOT important when choosing employees today and OBVIOUSLY NOT AT THIS GOLD STAR CHILI. Going to Skyline next time the craving for a cheese coney HITS. read more

We got a to go meal for the family. We ordered 2 hamburgers and fries and 2 5 ways. Everything was correct and was delicous. I do recommend this place when I need a meal fast and on the go. read more

Drive thru lady was extremely rude and short. Messed up my order, wasn't given any napkins, and wasn't given a fork for my chili cheese fries. Now I have no way of eating my chili cheese fries and my cheese coneys are messed up. I really don't ever complain but I'm a little upset. read more

Usually eat here 1 or 2 times a month. Our last visit will probably be the last visit. Our order was wrong and incomplete. I called the store immediately after discovering the issue and the manager said they would replace the order on my next visit. Now they only keep the info for 1 week. We ordered a coney grate and fries and a 4 way chili spaghetti and when I got home there was no receipt in the bag so I went back and told the manager who name was Jack and he said can't without a reciept and pretty hateful about and he saying when I told the waitress I would pay for one and he still was back there complainig about it so when I got home still no receipt in my bag so what if that order was wrong and if I went back he would of said "no receipt can't do it". Every time I visit family. I come to the best place in town, to eat. Holy goodness. How is it possible for a cheese coney to be so good?

I will not be back again. We went through the drive thru to order and asked about their new loaded fries and the boy on the speaker literally sighed at me and finally answered me. And then the whole time I am trying to order our food all he kept saying was Is that it? I said something to him at the window and he got snotty so I told him to keep their food and drove off and went to an even better restaurant. First of all, there was a wet spot on the floor inside the doors that had a wet floor sign. It was not raining nor did anything look to be leaking. It looked like someone spilled something and they didn't clean it up. I am handicapped so I slid in the water. The women's restroom toilet was not bolted down and when I leaned to wipe, it tipped over. If the sink wasn't there, I would have fallen. The server was in her 70s, it looked like, and was very slow and not friendly at all. We talked to the manager who was also cooking. She didn't even apologize or anything. She went straight back to the grill and didn't do anything about it. My husband had to tell the bus boy to clean the water up so I could walk out the door. He did do that. This is poor treatment, especially to an amputee who struggles with walking to begin with. The service and management were very disappointing. The food was okay. The fries were not done and the crackers were stale. We told the server and she just looked at us. We will NOT be back. This is the WORST Gold Star I have been to. I was surprised by the lack of friendliness in the restaurant. Hillsboro is a friendly, farming community. Not this place! read more

Omgosh. I'm eating and see something crawling fast in the table. A small cockroach. Great. I'm never eating here again. There's plenty of food on the carpet for the creatures now that I'm looking twice. People are friendly but seeing a cock roach means there's plenty more. read more

I ask for vegetarian chili cheese fries, then give me regular chili. But still really good so 4 STARS!
